- quite adequate quality, if the car was not killed before you, the main components and assemblies serve without any problems up to 250-300 thousand kilometers, this is a long time for any modern car;
- tolerable comfort, if you don’t expect much from the car, a smooth ride will ensure timely maintenance, replacement of struts at the right time, compliance with load restrictions;
- durable materials - although there are no expensive soft plastics here, the interior elements last much longer than you can imagine, the car resists wear;
- relatively low consumption - you can keep within 7 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle, if you drive carefully and do not put too much pressure on the trigger, on the highway fuel consumption is even more pleasing;
- no problems with the engine, almost all engines work well, there are 1.5 and 1.6 liters, both have versions of 8 and 16 valves, there is not much power, but the dynamics are not the worst.
In addition to all the advantages of the car, you can add its low fuel requirements, a fairly large trunk and ease of operation. Engine malfunctions and repairs 2112
The service life of the 2112 engine, according to the manufacturer’s data, is 150 thousand km; in practice, the engines run more than 250 thousand km.
The other side of the coin is the VAZ 2112 engine, when the timing belt breaks, the valve bends. The problem is solved by installing pistons from a 124 engine, but we will inevitably lose a few horsepower. If you do not want to lose power, you need to constantly monitor the condition of the belt. To do this, we listen to the sounds coming from the drive; the rollers usually begin to squeak when cold, then rustle, and then collapse. The pump begins to leak (the belt will be covered in coolant). The shaft seals are leaking (the belt is covered in oil). The shafts wear out - the belt begins to slide to the side and rub against the roller flange (grinding when cold). The belt can also slip due to crooked rollers.
Problems and malfunctions: the 2112 engine is throttling or adjusting - measure the compression, is it normal? Check the ignition module, high-voltage wires and spark plugs, these are the main problems in this case.
The engine speed of the VAZ 2112 1.5 is floating, the following should come under suspicion: the throttle valve (clean), the idle speed control, the crankshaft position sensor, the throttle position sensor (check, change) or something? Then the DMRV is to blame.
The following malfunction, at idle and when driving (when changing gears), the 2112 engine stalls, the problem is in a dirty throttle valve, or in the IAC (idle speed control), possibly the TPS (throttle position sensor).
Let's look further, engine 2112 does not start, what is the reason? The first is the starter and battery, the second is the ignition system, the third is the power supply system, if you can’t hear the fuel pump running, check its power supply, is everything okay? Check the pressure in the fuel supply system.
Another malfunction, the VAZ 2112 engine does not heat up or does not heat up well to operating temperature, the thermostat has died, change it and drive without problems.
What next, do you hear some kind of knocking noise in the VAZ 2112 engine? Almost always the problem is with hydraulic compensators. Because of this, the body begins to fall apart if it is not given proper attention. But this is not the only problem of the Ten. Pay attention to the following features:
- painted areas - very often these will be the consequences of an accident in which the car was involved; after an accident, it is very difficult to restore the body of a VAZ, this is done for sale and is of poor quality;
- steering - the rack in this car is a real problem, there is no point in rebuilding it, since the mechanism is not very durable even in a new condition, and the price is quite high;
- electrics - the electrical unit in the car is extremely weak; many owners have completely redone the wiring in order to achieve optimal results during operation;
- gear shift mechanism, as well as engine attachments - it is better to check before purchasing to find out the approximate service life of this equipment in the chosen car;

Considering that there are no new cars on the market anymore, and you will be choosing from 10- or even 20-year-old vehicles, it is worth paying attention to all the little things. The optimal combination of technology would be a 1.6-liter 8-valve engine; there are practically no problems with it. Also, you should always carry a timing belt with you, because the quality of the factory belt is such that as soon as it passes a certain level of wear, it does not begin to show it, but breaks almost instantly. True, in the case of a timing belt, there is one important advantage - on the “ten”, if it breaks, the valves will not bend.
Another important point is the fact, despite the recommendations in the service book, according to which the oil needs to be changed every 10 thousand kilometers, this process must be carried out twice as often - every 5 thousand kilometers. This was discovered experimentally by not a single thousand VAZ 2110 owners.
Also, you must understand that after the 60-kilometer mark, many elements will begin to fail, the service life of which should, in theory, be much longer. But at the factory, in order to reduce the cost of products, they save a lot on many elements of the car. By replacing it with good products from third-party companies, you will forget about the spare parts for a long time. At the same time, you must understand that the cost of spare parts with a long service life is quite high, but the work usually costs 100 percent of the cost of the part.
Around eighty thousand kilometers, you will replace all the problematic elements of the vehicle, and for the next 20-30 thousand kilometers you will drive, changing only “consumables”.

If you change from 2101 to “Ten”, you will feel like you are in an excellent foreign car. But over time, this feeling will pass, since a used ten has incredibly many shortcomings. Don’t expect that for 100,000 rubles you will be able to buy a car for all occasions. Among the disadvantages of this model are the following features:
- quite respectable age, which for Russian cars can be fatal in terms of service life, so you should choose a car very carefully and with high quality;
- reliability of most components and assemblies, in terms of reliability in general it is difficult to say anything good about previous generations of VAZ cars, especially low quality with poor maintenance;
- low comfort of movement - here it is worth noting that the technical solutions in the suspension are not the best, which create a harsh ride, but they can be corrected inexpensively if desired;
- long trips are prohibited - used VAZs should not be bought by those who are going to travel long distances, the level of comfort and quality of the trip will not allow this;
- Gasoline and oil consumption, leakage of technical fluids - car owners are constantly faced with problems such as increased fuel consumption and depressurization of the cooling system.
It cannot be said that these disadvantages are fatal for the buyer. But it’s also not worth arguing that 2110 is the best solution for your money. It is useless to give examples of car selection and indicate the cost. There are copies on the market that cost 80,000 rubles, and there are cars that cost 350,000 rubles after serious modifications, replacement of the engine with design and other interesting features. So you’re unlikely to be able to pick up a car from a sea of offers in a couple of hours.
Belt
The described engine has a belt drive. The big disadvantage is that if the timing belt breaks, it can bend the valves, which will inevitably lead to large investments in further engine repairs. Some specialists solve this problem by installing pistons from 124. In this case, of course, the power of the unit itself is also lost. But on the other hand, you will be insured against unexpected flaws in the event of a spare part failure. If you do not want to lose power, then you need to constantly monitor the working position of the belt.
To do this, you should listen to the noise of the drive.

If the pump starts to leak, antifreeze liquid will get onto the belt. There is an opinion that domestic cars are not worth buying used. But there is a lot of counterbalancing evidence for this theory. The problem is that buying a foreign car with a lot of imaginary advantages, but with a mileage of 250,000 km is a lottery with much lower chances of winning than purchasing a VAZ 2110 with the same mileage. Power plants
Let's start with the “heart” of these models – the engines. These cars were equipped with several engines with different technical equipment and performance. The first models that rolled off the assembly line had power plants that were not much different from the engines of previous models - VAZ-2108-2199. It was a 4-cylinder 8-valve unit with a carburetor power system. Later it was replaced with the same one, but with an injection system.
There were also 16-valve engines, and there were even models with an Opel engine. In general, all engines performed well and their reliability was good.
Weak points of motors. The main weak point was the timing belt. He rarely covered the 60 thousand km specified in the maintenance regulations.
Therefore, on VAZ cars it is necessary to promptly replace the timing belt. Moreover, the difficulty of restoring the latter’s performance directly depended on the type of engine.
If 8-valve engines survived belt breaks without problems, then 16-valve engines caused a lot of trouble for owners. For models with these power plants, when the belt broke, the pistons collided with the valves, causing the latter to bend.
The injection power system was relatively reliable, like the carburetor system; it only required timely replacement of the fuel filter and refueling with more or less high-quality fuel.
VAZ 2110 car owners also note that the engine mount is easily loosened, in particular the rear engine mount. Even if the car was purchased from scratch, after a year many noted problems with the cooling system, which is already recommended to be flushed.
Also, the clamps securing the pipes become loose and coolant leaks appear. Over time, the rubber pipes also lost their elasticity, which led to the appearance of cracks in them.
