Why does the windshield washer not work?

To determine why the windshield washer on the seven stopped working, it is necessary to carry out a thorough diagnosis. To help you carry out self-diagnosis, use the diagram shown in the photo above. Once a faulty element is detected, it will need to be repaired or replaced, depending on the nature of the failure. Malfunctions of the element in question can be divided into minor (you can fix it yourself) and serious, requiring replacement of the faulty part. Let's take a closer look at the main components of the system and their malfunctions.

The motor has failed

The first step is to check the proper operation of the washer motor. This is quite simple to do, just open the hood and press the steering column switch. The absence of signs of operation of the washer pump indicates that this element or its power circuit is faulty.

It’s not at all difficult to figure out the problem, but you will need a multimeter or a light bulb to do this. We connect the device to the contacts on the motor, and by turning on the steering column switch, we take measurements. The presence of 12V power (or if the light comes on) indicates that the circuit is working, and the reason lies in the inoperability of the motor itself. This part is not repairable, so you will need to buy a new element and replace it.

The nozzles should be checked if the windshield washer motor is working properly and there is liquid in the reservoir, but it is not supplied to the windshield. The nozzles spray liquid and have a simple design. In this case, the lack of liquid supply to the glass can occur due to a malfunction of the nozzles, which is quite easy to identify:

  1. Check the connection of the tube from the motor to the injector. This tube may have come off, and therefore the liquid does not flow to the nozzle.
  2. Check the tube for kinks and kinks. If a bend is appropriate, the motor will not be able to straighten it, since it has rather low power. If the reason is a bend in the tube, then you cannot turn on the motor for a long time, as it may burn out under load.
  3. Clogged injectors. It is quite easy to determine such a defect, since if the injector holes become clogged, not all of them are clogged at the same time, so one of the two parts will function in case of such a malfunction.

If the nozzle hole is clogged, you can clean it with a thin sewing needle, thereby restoring the functionality of the system.

Fuse

If the multimeter shows zero voltage when you turn on the steering column switch, then the fault must be looked for in the power circuit. The first thing you need to do is check the fuse. It is responsible for the flow of permissible current in the circuit, the value of which should not exceed 8A. When the load increases or when the circuit short circuits, the fuse link burns out.

You will need to check the serviceability of fuse F2, which is responsible not only for the serviceability of the washer circuit, but also for the windshield wiper and headlight circuits. If the fuse has blown, it should be replaced, but before doing this, check the continuity of the circuit, since the reason for its blown may be a short circuit.

Understeering's shifter

One of the key elements of the system is the steering column switch, which supplies power to the washer pump drive. A switch is a contact that closes when you move it. It is possible to talk about a malfunction of this part only when all elements of the system have been checked and are in good working order.

Checking this part is quite simple; for this you will need a multimeter in test mode. You need to disconnect the terminal from the switch, and then connect the probes of the device. In the closed position of the switch, the device should emit a characteristic signal. If there is no signal, then the part must be replaced with a new one.

Identifying a mechanism malfunction is quite simple if you approach the problem correctly. To do this, follow the instructions described above, which will ultimately allow you to independently find and eliminate the cause of the washer inoperability on the VAZ 2107.

Causes of washer malfunction

If the windshield washer does not work, it will not be difficult for an experienced driver to identify the cause of such a malfunction, and even a beginner, after familiarizing himself with the main failures in the cleaning system, will be able to eliminate them on his own.

Mechanical problems

The most important reason, as mentioned above, may be the lack of washer fluid; in this case, you just need to top it up. If it is present, but does not splash in the winter, then perhaps it is simply frozen. In this case, the problem can be solved in one of two ways:

  • warming up the engine;
  • bringing the car into a warm garage.

After the liquid has thawed, the system will begin to operate as usual, but it is better to drain the water from the tank after this and replace it with an “anti-freeze” one.

Other significant mechanical reasons why the windshield washer does not spray include the following factors.

  1. Clogged injectors . Their exit can be blocked by various debris: rust, dirt or small particles. To check the correctness of the guess, you need to stop the supply of working fluid to the nozzles; if this is the case, then the supply of “anti-freeze” will be normal. The solution to this problem lies in replacing the nozzles.
  2. Disconnecting the hose . It may simply fly off while driving on bumpy roads, and then the fluid supply will continue, but the headlight and windshield washer nozzle will remain dry. Sometimes this happens in cars in which the connecting fittings are located on the hood, then when it is closed, the hoses are squeezed. In any case, the deformed or torn tube must be replaced and returned to its place.

Electrical faults

After checking the fluid level, the cleanliness of the injectors and the hose leading to them, it may turn out that all this has nothing to do with it, then the issue is for the following reasons:

  1. Fuse blown . You will need to find the safety block and check the insert; it can be found using the attached diagram, which is usually printed on the cover or in the car’s operating instructions. After checking, if this is indeed the reason, then you need to replace the damaged part
  2. Motor failure . To establish the accuracy of your guess, you should connect a multimeter to the motor terminals and check the voltage when you turn on the washer. If the voltage indicator is normal, but the motor remains inoperative, then the problem lies with it. You can determine which motor has failed by elimination, by moving the pump terminals from the windshield to its rear counterpart.
  3. Washer switch malfunction . It is usually located on the steering wheel. If, after checking the voltage, it is missing, and replacing the motor with a new unit did not help, then it turns out that the windshield washer switch or relay is not working. Only an experienced auto electrician can accurately diagnose a breakdown.
  4. Oxidation of pump terminals . During operation, they can not only oxidize, but also completely fall off, which is why the motor stops pumping liquid. To return everything to working condition, you need to clean the oxidized terminals or replace them with new ones.

It is possible to determine the cause of the malfunction and the amount of costs to restore the system's functionality based on the results of a careful inspection. If you need to replace individual parts or elements, you can do it yourself. The device that blows the windshield to clean it from fresh or dried dirt does not work.

System diagnostics

A working washer blows a jet of water onto the windshield glass, while at the same time the blade moves. You can determine which element needs replacement as follows:

  1. We start the engine and open the hood.
  2. We ask an assistant to pull the steering column switch lever towards you.
  3. If the pump is running, it will be clearly audible.
  4. There is no water jet blowing - this means that the nozzles are clogged.

How and what to fill in the washer reservoir?

Above we looked at how to remove the washer reservoir, check the system sensor and change the container (if it is damaged). But there are situations when the container body is intact, and the only thing that needs to be done is to add liquid.

In such a situation, proceed as follows:

  • Pull the hood handle located in the cabin.
  • Open and secure the hood.
  • Unscrew the cap that is installed on the tank. In this case, unscrew only the cover that does not have wires.
  • Add liquid (water or anti-freeze). If the container is empty, it holds about five liters.

Troubleshooting equipment

A failed washer that does not blow the windshield with a special liquid is restored. Most often, the injection pump needs to be replaced, which occurs in the following sequence:

  1. The contact group is removed from the device.
  2. Using a short screwdriver, remove the compressor from the hole.
  3. In its place we insert a new unit into the tank.
  4. We put connectors on the contact group, after which you can perform the test.

The engine operates with a characteristic sound when functioning correctly. The glass is blown with a water jet from the nozzles. If the tubes are replaced, you will have to wait a little time for them to fill with liquid. Using this system as intended will allow you to drive in any weather.

Operating principle

On a VAZ 2107 car, the wipers are driven by a 12 V electric motor. A relay is installed in the windshield wiper activation circuit. It is responsible for the intermittent operation of the wipers, which work without interruption or at intervals of four seconds.

The windshield wiper is connected in parallel through the contacts of the closer. They are located in the gearbox housing and are “responsible” for returning the brushes to their original position and abruptly stopping the motor. The driver controls the operating mode of the windshield wiper using the switch. The whole mechanism works thanks to a motor. Connecting wipers and washer

“Plus” power is supplied from the ignition switch through fuse No. 2 at 10 Amp of the mounting block. The permanent “plus” goes along the black and yellow wires to contacts “4” of the connectors of the gear motor and the steering column switch. It should not disappear even when the switch is in the “off” position. The blue wire supplies “+” 12 V power to the motor when the switch is in “continuous mode” position. On the blue-white wire, in the “off” position there should be a “minus”, and in the “continuous mode on” position the “minus” is turned off. This is done to slow down the motor when the power to the closer is turned off.

The red wire supplies the relay with “+” 12 V from the switch when the intermittent mode is turned on. At the moment of operation, contacts “2” and “4” close, and “1” and “3” open, the motor starts working and the brushes make one or two movements. Then “+” 12 V is turned off, and contacts “1” and “3” are closed to each other and to “minus”. The motor stops for a few seconds and then the cycle repeats.

The washer pump motor is connected to “+” 12 V constantly with a black and yellow wire through the same fuse No. 2. “Minus” is applied when you press the windshield wiper lever from bottom to top.
