Kia seed spark plug wrench. How to change spark plugs on a Kia Sid yourself? Replacing spark plugs

Spark plugs are responsible for producing a spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber of the engine.

If the engine begins to stall and start every other time, if the amount of fuel consumed has increased, and the thrust has decreased, you need to pay attention to the condition of the spark plugs.

Operating a car with worn ignition elements can lead to malfunctions of power plant components , the repair of which will cost much more than the timely purchase and installation of a new kit.

Faulty spark plugs can cause catalytic converter failure.

When you need to replace Kia Sid spark plugs, what elements to buy and what part numbers to look for originals, and also how to change the ignition elements yourself? Let's figure it out together.

Replacing spark plugs on a Kia Pro Ceed

In today's article we will show you how to replace the spark plugs in a 2013 Kia Pro Ceed. You will find out where to look at the catalog numbers of the original spark plugs and where to buy them. We'll show you how to replace old spark plugs with new ones, and what tools you'll need for the job. In principle, there is nothing difficult about replacing spark plugs. The spark plugs will be replaced on a 2013 Kia Pro Ceed. However, we assume that for regular ceed or ceed sw from 2012 to 2021 everything is the same. For those who don’t like to read, at the end of the article there will be a video on replacing spark plugs. However, the video may omit some points from this article.

When do you need to change spark plugs on a KiaPro Ceed?

According to Kia company regulations (Kia Ceed Maintenance Regulations), spark plugs on 2013 Kia Pro Ceed vehicles are replaced every 60,000 km. mileage That is, after the car leaves the factory, it must travel 60,000 km, after which the spark plugs must be replaced. And the next replacement should occur at 120,000 km. However, there is an opinion that spark plugs must be replaced at around 20,000 - 30,000 km. mileage First of all, this is due to low-quality gasoline. Therefore, if you feel that the car has begun to accelerate more slowly, then the reason for this phenomenon is most likely in the candles.

How to determine which spark plugs are installed in a Kia Pro Ceed?

Determining which spark plugs are used in a Kia Pro Ceed is very simple. To do this, open the Kia electronic catalog: https://www.elcats.ru/kia/. In the search by VIN column, enter our VIN from the STS of our car. Select a group of spare parts for the engine. Next, select the candle and cable item. Then select the spark plug. In the drop-down menu we see the code of the spark plugs installed in the car. The spark plug code is the manufacturer's article number. In our case, the original spark plug code for the 2013 Kia Pro Ceed is as follows: 18855-10060. There are four spark plugs in the car that need to be replaced.

Next, we go to Exist, enter the article number 18855-10060 and see that in addition to the original candles, there is a whole bunch of compatible candles. We do not recommend using compatible spark plugs from other manufacturers. However, everyone knows that Kia does not produce spark plugs, but uses third-party spark plugs. As for candles with article number 18855-10060, these are NGK candles with article number LZKR6B-10E. KIA simply puts NGK spark plugs into their branded boxes with the Kia/Hyundai logo. On the candles themselves there is the inscription NGK LZKR6B-10E. At the same time, the cost of candles immediately increases by 10-20%. The cost of a KIA spark plug with article number 18855-10069 as of February 1, 2019 is 257 rubles. The cost of the NGK LZKR6B-10E candle is 208 rubles. So, buying four spark plugs, you can save 100 rubles.

What tool is needed to change spark plugs in a 2013 Kia Pro Ceed?

To replace spark plugs in a Kia pro ceed 2013, you need the following tool: 1. 10mm socket and ratchet; 2. The head of the spark plug wrench and the extension from the head of the spark plug wrench to the ratchet; 3. Torque wrench with a force of 10 -40 Nm. We will use a JTC 4936 wrench with a force from 20 to 200 Nm; 4. A damp cloth or napkins.

How do I replace the spark plugs in a 2013 Kia Pro Ceed?

After we have acquired new spark plugs and prepared the necessary tools, we can proceed to replacement. Replacement of spark plugs is carried out only on a cold engine! That is, they turned off the car engine, waited 20 minutes and started replacing it.

We unscrew the old spark plugs.

Experts recommend removing the negative terminal from the battery before starting work on replacing spark plugs. To be honest, we didn’t film it. Next, you need to remove the plastic casing from the engine. Before removing, wipe it with a damp cloth or tissue. It is easy to remove by simply pulling the cover up. It does not tighten with bolts. They took it off and put it aside. There may be a plastic cylinder protection cover under the casing. But this is provided that it was purchased and installed by you. This cover is not installed from the factory. But there are holes that allow you to screw it on. The cylinder protection cover is unscrewed with a 10mm head. Removed and set the cover aside.

Now you need to unscrew the four ignition coils with a 10mm head. There is a bolt for each coil. Carefully remove the coils from the cylinders and place each coil on the engine opposite its cylinder. Note that we do not disconnect the wiring from the coils. We simply put the coil aside as far as the wiring allows. This is due to the fact that the plastic clips are very fragile and there is a risk of breaking them.

Next, you need to unscrew the spark plugs from each cylinder. We unscrew it with a ratchet with a spark plug head, if necessary, use an extension, since the spark plug wells are quite deep. Unscrew the spark plugs counterclockwise. Under no circumstances should we use a torque wrench as a wrench, as it is designed solely for tightening. Using a key as a wrench will cause it to break.

We screw in new spark plugs.

Now you need to screw in the new spark plugs. We take a 16-inch spark plug head and connect the “extension cord”. We do not use a ratchet when tightening! Gently tighten by hand. As soon as the spark plug starts spinning harder, it’s time to tighten it with a torque wrench. We have NGK LZKR6B-10E spark plugs with a thread diameter of 12 mm and an aluminum cylinder head. Accordingly, the manufacturer recommends tightening with a torque of 15-20 Nm. We adjust the tightening torque on the torque wrench to 20 Nm. We tighten the candles in each well. When tightened with a torque wrench to the desired torque, a click will occur, indicating that tightening is complete.

After all the spark plugs have been tightened in each of the four cylinders, you need to insert the ignition coils and tighten them with bolts. Next, screw on the cylinder protection cover (if you had one), and then put the plastic casing back on. This completes the replacement of spark plugs.

DIY replacement instructions

Replacing Kia Rio spark plugs can be done in a garage without visiting a service station. The procedure itself is quite simple, so almost every car enthusiast can master it; all you need is a set of keys and a screwdriver.

So, how to replace Kia Rio spark plugs:

  1. First, open the engine compartment and disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
  2. Using a 10mm wrench, you will need to unscrew the four bolts that secure the plastic protection of the power unit. It will be more convenient to use a socket wrench. Having done this, you can remove the cover.
  3. After this, you will need a flat-tip screwdriver - with its help you must move the mount of the block with the wiring that connects to the ignition coil.
  4. By moving the latch, you can disconnect the plug from the coil itself.
  5. After completing these steps, you will need to unscrew the screw that secures the coil itself. To do this, you will need a 10mm wrench. By unscrewing the bolt, the coil can be removed.
  6. Before dismantling the spark plug, the spark plug well itself must be cleaned to prevent dirt from getting into the holes. Alternatively, you can use a compressor for this - this method is considered one of the most effective.
  7. Then, using a 17mm wrench, you need to unscrew the SZ itself and remove it from the seat. Instead, a new product is installed, and a coil is placed on top of it. This procedure must be repeated with all devices. Assembly is carried out in reverse order.

Replacing spark plugs with LEDs

Spark plugs are one of the most frequently replaced spare parts. The reason for this is active work in difficult conditions. They are constantly exposed to mechanical, vibration and electrical stress. The result is that the aging process is significantly accelerated. If this part is not changed, it will eventually lead to a drop in discharge intensity. In other words, the car will be difficult to start, and fuel will burn less efficiently. In some cases, severely worn spark plugs cause the car to not start at all. And here a logical question arises - how to properly replace spark plugs on a Kia Sid car? Below we will give some useful tips.

Choosing spark plugs for LED ED, JD

Original Kia Sid JD spark plugs (since 2012) have part code 18846-10060 or with the letter S at the beginning, for ED models (since 2006) - 18854-10080. However, there may be differences, therefore, to eliminate the possibility of error, it is better to look for the part in the original spare parts catalogs, using the VIN number.

Over several years of operation, products from the Japanese company NGK have performed well. Products from the following companies are also suitable for ED and JD modifications:

  • Bosch;
  • Beru;
  • Denso;
  • and some others.

Russian-made products are also compatible with ED and JD versions.

We will supply original candles, but there are many manufacturers of substitutes

On the one hand, for the Sid ED version, like the JD, an important point is the choice of candles depending on the production materials. Try to focus on products made based on iridium composition. Yes, on the one hand, such products are much more expensive, and they cannot always be found in stores. But, on the other hand, the operation of such spark plugs has a positive effect on fuel economy, improves the quality of combustion of the mixture, and has a much longer service life.

For 1.4-liter engines, it is necessary to install a consumable, the design of which includes a short skirt. The reason is that the long skirt requires too much internal space to be allocated, which makes it impossible to fit it into the standard place of the cylinder block. But for 1.6 and 2 liter engines, which have been produced from 2006-2009 and from 2009 to the present time, products that include a long skirt are suitable. When using a spark plug with a short skirt, the power of the power unit will be significantly reduced.

Many drivers are also interested in the question of how many electrodes should be present on the consumable. Both classic spark plugs with one electrode and multi-electrode ones are suitable for Kia Sid. They are, of course, more expensive, but have more stable sparking, which allows for more complete and uniform combustion of the working mixture. As a result, you can see a slight increase in engine power and additional efficiency, although they are unlikely to be significant.

Replacement process for engines 1.4 and 1.6

Some car owners think that on Sid, the interval for scheduled replacement of spark plugs is only 20 thousand kilometers, although the manufacturer claims 3 times longer. This is partly true, because there are a number of reasons for this:

  • Instability of fuel quality;
  • harsh operating conditions of the vehicle.

If you do not change the spark plugs on the Sid, one of two typical malfunctions may occur - the power unit control unit burns out, or the ignition coil burns out. In both the first and second cases, restoration of these elements is impossible.

For a successful replacement, you will have to take the tools with you in advance and purchase new compatible spark plugs (it is highly desirable that they be officially certified). A complete replacement usually takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on experience.

The algorithm is as follows:

  1. Open the hood of the car. Remove the plastic engine cover. It is secured with four 10mm bolts.
  2. Once it is removed, you will have access to the ignition coils. They are fixed using bolts with a similar head size. We unscrew them. This will make it possible to completely release the coils.
  3. Considering that the well is about 150 millimeters deep, a regular wrench will not be suitable for unscrewing the light. To do this, you will either have to use a special spark plug wrench or an extension cord. The replacement procedure should be performed in sequential order, one at a time.

Installation of new consumables is carried out in exactly the opposite order. The procedure presented above is carried out according to a similar principle, regardless of the version of the car - ED or JD.

Unscrew the ignition coils, disconnect the wire terminals

Removing the ignition coils

Unscrew and change spark plugs

Old and new candles

It must be remembered that the main reason why spark plugs fail ahead of time is the poor quality of gasoline or poor quality of its cleaning with a fuel filter. Therefore, it should be changed at the same time.

Thus, the procedure for replacing candles is a simple task that can be done “at home”. The main problem is the correct choice of consumables, so it is better to focus on the manufacturer’s recommendations, giving preference to time-tested brands. Try to refuel with high-quality fuel to extend the life of consumables.

What candles should I put?

In accordance with the technical regulations, on the Kia Rio or Kia Sportage 3, the SZ must be replaced every 30 thousand km. However, in fact, this figure averages 15-20 thousand km. As we have already reported above, service life largely depends not only on the car, but also on the manufacturer of the vehicle.

Replacing the SZ with a Kia Rio or any other car model should be done if the following occurs due to poor condition of the spark plugs:

  • the power unit began to work unstably;
  • the engine suffers, its power has decreased significantly;
  • fuel consumption has increased.

Of course, these symptoms may also indicate other problems with the engine.

Therefore, in order to make sure that the SZ on the Kia Sid or Kia Spectra has already completed its service life, you need to remove them from the installation site and carry out diagnostics, at least visually:

  1. First, pay attention to the gap between the electrodes. As a rule, the gap size is indicated in the marking, usually this is the last digit. If it is not there, then this indicates that the distance should be 8 mm. If the gap is larger, then the device must be changed.
  2. Carefully inspect the device for carbon deposits. If the combustion process is configured correctly, then the SZ should self-clean during use. If there is black or white carbon deposits on the design of the part, this indicates that the operation of the ignition system is impaired. However, if one SZ smells like fuel or at least one of them has carbon deposits, then the entire set needs to be changed.
  3. The ceramic insulator has a dark coating or signs of damage have appeared on it, in particular cracks (the author of the video is Igor V).

If you decide to change spark plugs on a Kia Sportage or any other car model, then first of all you need to read the service book. In the manual, the manufacturer always indicates which SZ can be used, as well as what type it should be.

The design of the motor involves the use of two types of CX with an extended thread of 29 mm:

It should be noted that this list is not limited to these models. You can use any similar devices from other manufacturers, it is only important that they match the heat rating and design. For example, you can use iridium SZ from NGK, but keep in mind that its cost will be several times higher than when compared with conventional devices.

What analogues can be used:

  • Champion RC10YC4;
  • BOSCH 0 242 229 656;
  • NGK SILZKR6B-10E;
  • Denso K16PR-U11;
  • BKR5EIX-11.

Replacing spark plugs for Kia Sid Leave a comment

Good day to all! Today we will talk about how to replace Kia Sid spark plugs. The procedure is very simple, so I will try to tell everything very briefly but succinctly. So, let's go.

Kia Sid spark plug replacement interval

If you adhere to the maintenance regulations, then the spark plugs on the Kia Sid must be changed after 60 thousand kilometers or after 4 years, whichever comes first.

Which spark plugs to choose to replace the Kia Sid?

The manufacturer supplies conventional spark plugs with a copper electrode. For Kia Sid 1.6, spark plugs with article number 18855-10060 are used. The cost of such a candle is approximately 180-200 rubles at the moment. However, inside there are spark plugs made by NGK. To be precise, the article number for these candles is LZKR6B-10E. Such candles are already cheaper, namely 120-140 rubles. In fact, the MOBIS company, which is a manufacturer of original components and spare parts for the Hyundai & KIA concern, in this case is only a packager of third-party spare parts. Therefore, for those for whom packaging is not as important as its contents, you can save money by purchasing NGK candles.

And for those who want to improve the performance characteristics of their car, there are also higher quality iridium spark plugs, which can also be purchased and installed on the Kia Sid. The article number for these candles is 18846-10060 and their “twin brother” for NGK is SILZKR6B10E.

Replacing spark plugs for Kia Sid - progress of work

Please note that all work must be done on a cold engine.

1. Open the hood and remove the decorative plastic cover of the engine.

2. Unscrew the 4 bolts that secure the plastic plug on the valve cover.

3. Remove 4 wiring chips for controlling the ignition coils.

4. Unscrew 4 more bolts that secure the ignition coils.

5. Take out the ignition coils and put them aside.

6. Take the spark plug wrench and extension cord and unscrew the spark plugs.

7. We install new spark plugs in place and tighten everything with a tightening torque of 20 Nm.

8. Put everything back in reverse order.

That's all! At this point, the replacement of spark plugs can be considered complete. I also recommend watching the video of replacing the Kia Sid spark plugs, in which everything is shown and explained in great detail.

How to check spark plugs

KIA Sid has been produced since 2006. Equipped with both gasoline and diesel engines. The line has three generations. On the domestic market, the most famous are the first 2, since the last generation at the time of writing (early 2021) was introduced only last year. Therefore, the article will focus on Kia Cee'd 1 (ED, ED FL) and 2 (JD).

Spark plugs for LEDs 1 and 2 differ depending on the engine size, the car's restyling, and directly on the generation. The supplier of original spare parts for the conveyor is Mobis, which simply repackages the spare parts. And the main manufacturer of the originals is NGK. Relatively recently, candles from the CHAMPION company are also occasionally found in the original.

How to change spark plugs on a Kia Sid yourself?

Replacing spark plugs in a Kia Sid is a simple procedure and should not cause much difficulty. To replace, you will need a simple set of tools and a little time.

Timing for replacing spark plugs and how to choose them

One of the signs of a malfunction is problems starting the engine. Namely, the starter does not fire immediately, leading to the car starting after a few idle turns. Other symptoms of wear and tear include a decrease in engine performance, coupled with an increase in fuel consumption and the car jerking when driving.

According to manufacturers, spark plugs for Kia Ceed JD need to be changed after 60 thousand kilometers or after 4 years. However, if you use low-quality fuel, you may have to think about replacing the spark plugs on your Kia Sid after 20 thousand km. Also, depending on operating conditions, they may wear out earlier.

A sure sign of wear and tear is a decrease in engine performance coupled with an increase in fuel consumption, problems with the starter during ignition, and the car jerking when driving. In this case, you should not delay replacement, otherwise you risk burning the ignition coils or engine control unit.

When choosing spark plugs, many people tend to give preference to platinum or iridium, primarily because of their reliability and efficiency. However, they are more expensive and require high-quality fuel. Experts recommend turning your attention to the products of the Japanese company NGK. However, you can also use spark plugs from Denso, Beru, Bosch or other manufacturers.

Preparation for replacement and necessary tools

Before starting work, it is recommended to thoroughly blow out or wipe the engine compartment, paying special attention to cleaning the wells on the cylinder head and the plastic casing. This is done to prevent dust, sand, dirt or other small objects from getting into the cylinders. As you can imagine, foreign objects entering the cylinders can be disastrous and costly to repair. For safety reasons, the jumper wires should be disconnected from the battery. To replace, you will need a 10mm wrench and a 16mm spark plug wrench.

Replacing the air filter element

According to the maintenance regulations, the replacement air filter element must be replaced after 45 thousand kilometers. When operating a vehicle in a dusty area, the interval should be reduced by one and a half to two times. We replace a deformed or damaged element regardless of mileage - neglecting this rule will result in severe wear and a decrease in engine power.

Replacing spark plugs in a Kia Sid is a simple procedure and should not cause much difficulty. To replace, you will need a simple set of tools and a little time.

Replacement process

The frequency of replacing spark plugs, according to the manual, is 60,000 km. However, as practice shows, it is better to change spark plugs after a mileage of 30,000 km.

Also, during operation, problems may occur in the vehicle’s ignition system. When checking spark plugs, it is necessary to carefully diagnose them and, if necessary, replace them. It is necessary to check the ignition system wiring for cracks, wear or damage to parts.

Let's look at the complete process of replacing the Kia Sid steering rod:

  1. Remove the engine protective cover.
  2. Now you need to remove the ignition coils.

Remove the panel on the engine cover. Below them you will see the ignition coils. After this, use a 10″ wrench to unscrew the ignition coils.

Then we remove the ignition coils from the wells.

  • Unscrew the ignition coils.
  • We take out the ignition coils.

    Then, using a 16″ wrench, unscrew the spark plugs and replace them with new ones.

  • Spark plugs are visible.
  • Using a spark plug wrench, unscrew the spark plugs from their seats.
  • Install new spark plugs and tighten them.
  • Install the ignition coils.
