Webasto heater - DIY installation

Webasto pre-heaters allow you to warm up the car engine even before it starts. Webasto has been producing additional equipment for transport since 1901, and its products are quite popular among motorists.

Equipping a car with a pre-heater can be appreciated by those car owners who every winter face the problem of starting a frozen engine. An engine that won't start can ruin your plans for the day, especially if you need the car for work. In addition, an engine started in severe frost for the first minutes runs in oil starvation mode, which reduces its service life. Hopes for modern synthetic motor oils are not always justified - oil seals are squeezed out, belts are torn, and detonation in an engine that has not yet warmed up is clearly detectable by ear.

Installing Webasto yourself is justified - the price of the work is quite high. In addition, the car service that undertakes the installation of Webasto is not always located nearby. You will need to know your car and have locksmith skills. It is better to choose a heater that runs on the same fuel as the car - there is no need to install an additional tank. The process of installing Webasto on a diesel or gasoline engine is not fundamentally different.

What is Webasto?

These are preheaters installed in the engine compartment and connected to all vehicle systems: fuel, cooling system and on-board electronics. They run on fuel from the car’s tank and warm up the engine and interior before driving. Moreover, many additional accessories and integrated functions allow you to control the heating remotely. Today it is not difficult to buy Webasto; it is much more important to install the boiler correctly. And the Additional Center will be happy to help you with this.

Installing Webasto on VAZ 2115

During installation, pay attention to correct positioning! The pump (2/10) is installed on the front wall of the body under the hood on a standard M6 stud Fig. 10 - put a rubber clamp (2/8) on the pump - secure the metering pump to the stud with a nut as shown in Fig. 8 - lay a mecanyl fuel hose from the fuel intake point to the suction side of the pump (the side without the shoe) and cut to the required length - connect the fuel hose to the pump fitting using a rubber hose and 2 clamps - connect the discharge side of the pump (the side with the shoe) to the fuel connector of the heater (2/2 ) mecanyl fuel wire, also using rubber hoses and clamps - fix the fuel hose on the body wall using white plastic fasteners - lay the electrical cable harness (2 wires - brown and blue) from the heater to the fuel pump and cut to the required length. Attach the plug adapter, flat plug, assemble the plug sleeve and connect the cable harness to the pump - To ensure the longevity and reliability of the fuel metering pump, it is recommended to install a fine fuel filter in front of it

Control block

The installation location of the control unit must be protected from water and dirt! Installation location: between the left fender and the battery - lubricate the plug sockets with anti-corrosion gel - insert the plug blocks into the sockets according to the diagram - secure the control unit (1/11) to the fender using self-tapping screws

Electrical connections

Connection to the interior heater fan

— lay the bundle from the Webasto wiring harness (1/12) through the technological plug for the headlight hydrocorrector (on the left on the body wall in the foot area) into the car interior — stretch the bundle to the instrument panel console Connect the interior heater fan according to the electrical diagram — lay the black wire 2.5 mm2 and red 4 mm2 (leading red wire 2.5 mm2 from leg 3 of block B to the fuse block) This wire can be determined by testing the red wires 4 mm2 going through the fuse blocks with a tester - remove the block with the yellow wire with a blue stripe (1/13 ) from the button for turning on the interior heater fan - put the plug on the black wire 2.5 mm2 (2/13) and insert it into the socket of the fan button - attach the plug to the red wire 4 mm2 (3/13) and insert it into the block with the yellow wire with blue stripe

- secure the Webasto fuse block holders with self-tapping screws on the body wall of the wing - - snap the fuse blocks onto the holders

Ground terminals (2 brown wires 2.5 mm 2) are mounted on standard body studs or self-tapping screws

Power connection

Connect the red heater power wire 4 mm2 to the “+” terminal of the battery after installing it in its original place. Yellow wire 0.75 mm2 (3/11) with a plug, intended for connecting computer diagnostics.

- remove the plastic cover from the heater - insert the plug blocks into the sockets on the heater - insert the cover into place

TIMER

Always coordinate the location of the timer with the client! — remove the plug from the instrument panel console — route the timer plug (1/15) to the plug — make a hole for the timer (1/16) according to the template included in the scope of delivery — insert the 8-pin plug into the timer socket — insert the timer into the plug socket

Final works

- connect the battery - return the dismantled elements to their original position - check all hoses, clamps, and electrical connectors for tight fit - secure all hanging wires and hoses with plastic fasteners - start the engine, remove the air lock according to VAZ instructions. Add coolant - set the car's heating system to the "warm" position. — start the car engine*

Autonomous heaters Webasto Webasto

An autonomous heater, in common parlance, an autonomous heater, or a stove, is a mechanism for heating a cabin or body that uses a minimum amount of battery energy and burns a minimum amount of fuel for heating.

And it happens something like this:

  • After turning on the heater, its electronic control unit queries all circuits for breaks or short circuits.
  • Starts the fan and looks for the number of revolutions based on the collector noise.
  • Turns on the filament pin.
  • Turns on the fuel pump.
  • And it monitors the changing resistance using the flame sensor or the glow pin.
  • As soon as the flame is detected, it heats up the heat exchanger and uses a fan to blow it inside the housing.
  • Removing heat from the heat exchanger, it measures the temperature at the inlet to the stove on the fan side, set by the driver’s potentiometer.
  • Depending on the temperature, it changes the number of revolutions and fuel supply.

As soon as one of these sequences is not executed, the error code immediately starts blinking.

By the number of blinks you can accurately determine that the heater is faulty.
