In addition to boring the channels, the cylinder head can be modified by installing a tuned camshaft. Most often, car owners install a shaft from a VAZ 21213, less often - sports elements of the “Estonian” type and the like.
Replacing the standard camshaft makes it possible to change the valve timing. As a result, the engine cylinders are better filled with the combustible mixture and are also cleaned of exhaust gases, which increases the power of the power unit. The camshaft is changed in the same way as during normal repairs, i.e. no special devices are required.

- Apply with mastic (it is better to use two layers with breaks for drying);
- Treat the galvanized surface with mastic. Fix the pieces prepared for installation from the outside with self-tapping screws (cut off their protruding ends in the interior);
- In the interior, put galvanized sheeting, also heavily coated with mastic, but fasten it with bolts.

Advice. Fixing the galvanizing should begin at one end of the floor to prevent the thin metal from bending.
- Prepare the side members by drilling 6 holes on the mating tabs (3 on one side and 3 on the other);
- Place the spar to the floor, press it from below with a jack and mark the locations of the holes in the floor;
- Remove the side member and drill holes in the floor;
- Treat the element with mastic, as well as the bottom section in this place;
- Place and secure firmly with bolts.
That's it. The protruding ends of the bolts can also be cut off. The sheet of iron supplied must also be covered with mastic on top, trying to push it into the cracks (if any remain). Compressor or turbine for the “six”
You can increase engine power by installing a compressor or turbine, but first you need to figure out what is required for this. First of all, you need to understand that, due to its design features, it is possible to install a turbine on a carburetor engine, but it is quite problematic. The nuances include both large material and time costs. The most important points to think about when equipping a car with a turbine are:

- Mandatory installation of an intercooler. This part is a kind of radiator, only the air is cooled in it. Since the turbine creates high pressure and the air is heated, it must be cooled to obtain the effect of the installation. If you don't use an intercooler, there will be an effect, but much less.
If you are not such an avid racing driver, then you should look towards the compressor, which has the following differences from the turbine:
- Does not develop high blood pressure.
- There is no need to install an intercooler.
- You can equip a VAZ carburetor engine.

Refinement of the intake and exhaust system
Upgrading the cylinder head and manifolds, if desired, can be done by anyone who owns a “six” or another classic Zhiguli model. The main goal pursued is to increase power. It is achieved by reducing the resistance when supplying the fuel-air mixture at the inlet, i.e. by removing roughness. To carry out the procedure, the cylinder head must be removed from the vehicle and disassembled. After this, it is recommended to wash the unit. For these purposes, you can use modern means or ordinary kerosene or diesel fuel. From the necessary list of tools and materials you will need:
- drill with the ability to adjust speed;
- drill;
- flexible rod;
- rollers;
- skins of different grain sizes;
- rags;

- exhaust valve and set of washers for boring over 32 mm;
- graphite lubricant;
- vice.
Replacing the crankshaft
The engine of the VAZ “six” has a VAZ 2103 crankshaft with a piston stroke of 80 mm. In addition to increasing the diameter of the cylinders, you can increase
stroke of the piston, thereby boosting the engine. For the purposes under consideration, the engine is equipped with a VAZ 21213 crankshaft with a piston stroke of 84 mm. What is clearance?

Increasing the ground clearance allows you to increase the vehicle's cross-country ability, but at the same time, its resistance to rollover on the road decreases.

Good day to all. I'm tired of reading about non-working stoves and installing diodes where needed and not needed... I decided to share my useful experience in strengthening a classic body. We will talk about strengthening the side members in the area of the engine compartment and engine shield. One trouble prompted me to take these actions, but more on that later. I’ll immediately make a reservation that the policy of my modifications is: “The car should not have unique spare parts, because this complicates the process of replacing the latter.” This means that, whenever possible, you need to modify the car with parts that, in the event of a malfunction, can be purchased and replaced, rather than creating them anew. This does not apply to load-bearing parts of the body =) Strengthening the beam and levers on a civilian car is not necessary and cannot be done. Because when hitting an open well, hitting a curb, jumping from a springboard, etc. It’s better if a lever or beam bursts/bends/wraps, but the body remains alive.
On a fine evening, a crack was discovered on the spar in the area of the steering gearbox.
The next week was spent looking for information on strengthening this and other places in the front part of the body. Since I try to do everything myself, especially a car as basic in design as a VAZ, another repair was started.
I bought a sheet of 1.5 mm cold steel (size 3X1.5 meters, enough for 3 such reinforcements). Then I cleared the car of everything that was bothering me: I removed the box, disassembled the suspension, took out the engine (I washed it and replaced the gaskets and seals). Then I drilled holes for bushings to attach the beam to through bolts and at the same time moved the beam 15 mm forward. Then I sawed the “TV” to fit the shniva-radiator (otherwise it was fastened “just to hold it”). Using cardboard and masking tape, I began to make “patterns” for the side members. Then I transferred them to metal.
How to increase ground clearance (clearance)
Increasing ground clearance is most often done by off-road driving enthusiasts, hunters and other people who like to go out of town. Roads in the city are significantly different from country roads. That is why increasing the clearance for cars unsuitable for these roads is one of the most important procedures.
- First method. An increase in ground clearance is achieved by installing wheels with a larger diameter. This is especially true for cars with basic equipment.
Among the disadvantages of this method are the appearance of a speedometer error and the limitation of the diameter by the wheel arches. This means that if you install a wheel that is too large in diameter, it will hit the arches on sharp turns.
- Second method. Installing spacers under the fastenings of suspension parts to the body, for example, springs, also allows you to increase ground clearance. Complete with spacers, you should purchase shock absorber extensions, or new extended shock absorbers, since when entering a deep hole, the shock absorber may fly out of the cup.
The disadvantage of this method is that the rear spacers are much thicker than the front ones and the increase in ground clearance occurs unevenly. In this regard, the brake force regulator, or “sorcerer” as it is called, receives incorrect information. However, the “sorcerer” has the ability to regulate.
- Third method. It is reminiscent of the second method and consists of replacing standard springs with springs with a large number of turns. In this way, a significant increase in ground clearance can be achieved. However, as in the second method, it is necessary to lengthen or replace the shock absorbers for the same reasons.
Compared to spacers, new springs will last much longer and more reliably, however, in addition to the same disadvantages, they have a high cost.
- Fourth method. Reinforced springs. This option is used for vehicles that are operated at full load. They can be pickup trucks and station wagons, which have the ability to transport large cargo. Reinforced springs do not increase the vehicle's ground clearance, but their use eliminates "sagging" under full load, while maintaining normal ground clearance and protects the underbody from damage due to uneven road surfaces.
Among the advantages of this system, one can note an increase in the service life of the entire chassis, however, the comfort of a trip without a load is reduced, since the rear part will “spring” on small bumps.

Rear suspension tuning methods
Tuning the rear suspension of the VAZ 2107 is carried out in the following ways:
- replacing springs;
- replacing shock absorbers:
- use of anti-roll bar;
- use of an A-arm;
- application of the Watt mechanism;
- use of air cushions under springs.
The suspension noticeably lacks rigidity, so the owners decide to replace the factory springs with springs with a large number of turns. For example, a common case is when springs from a VAZ 2121 Niva are installed on the rear suspension, since the suspension of the Niva and the classic is the same. The springs are ideal in diameter and have a larger number of turns. Also, to enhance rigidity, gas shock absorbers are installed in the suspension, which, together with such springs, provide the necessary rigidity. As a result, there will be a noticeable difference before and after tuning.
The use of a stabilizer bar, which is attached with the central part to the rear axle and the ends to the body, will make the car even more stable, as a result it will hold the road well, this will be especially noticeable when cornering. Stabilizers are used both those that are installed in front and from other cars, the main thing is that they fit. In this case, it is worth noting that the stabilizer bushings should be used those that are recommended for this stabilizer, that is, if the stabilizer is from the same VAZ 2107, then the bushings should be purchased for the “Seven”. Otherwise, very hard or large bushings will wear out the stabilizer, bend the mounting bolts, push out the clamp, which can lead to the stabilizer falling out.
The A-arm is homemade and is installed primarily in place of all four reaction rods. To secure the lever, the reaction rods are installed using rubber bushings or silent blocks. In addition to the fact that such a lever is difficult to make, you also have to bend the exhaust pipe so that it does not touch the lever during suspension operation. As a result, the suspension performs precise work in the vertical plane, allowing you to transport more cargo on the car.
The Watt mechanism also has a complex design and is used instead of a roll bar. A pin with a bearing is welded to the rear of the gearbox, onto which a special rocker arm is placed. From it, on silent blocks, levers extend to the sides, which are attached to the mounting points of the Panhard rod, using rubber bushings or silent blocks. This mechanism provides better stability of the car in the horizontal plane, preventing it from skidding at high speed.
There is also a cunning method when special air cushions are installed directly under the springs, which are then inflated with air through a regular pump. The car rises and becomes even stiffer. The disadvantage of this method is that during operation of the suspension, the springs will wear out these cushions, and the car may even sag more on one side. Then you will have to change these airbags quite often, the replacement of which also causes quite a bit of trouble for the driver. Of course, the best result will be achieved by combining the methods listed above.
