Replacing the daytime running lights lamp (for use on the Hyundai Solaris model from 2015)

Hyundai Solaris 2nd generation went on sale on the domestic market in February of this year. The car received both external and internal changes, transformed, became more modern and attractive to potential buyers. We will not consider the technical part, but we will consider the lamps installed in the new generation of the model in detail. Below we will tell you which lamps are installed in the headlights and rear lights, as well as the interior lighting. It is worth noting that most of the lamps installed on the first generation of the model migrated to the second.

What lamps are installed in the PTF

The manufacturer equips the car with H27/2 . 27W lamp with a curved base. Only this lamp can be installed in the PTF on a Hyundai Solaris; lamps with a different or similar base will not fit. We also note that there are no more powerful H27 lamps.

Instead of conventional halogen ones, you can install LED lamps and use fog lights as daytime running lights. They will shine a bright white light, but will not illuminate the road.

You can also install xenon lamps , white. Such lamps will illuminate the road, but only in dry weather. For example, white xenon lamps:

  • H27 Lighthouse Super White
  • H27 MTF Palladium
  • H27 EVO

Replacing the running light bulb in the Hyundai Solaris 2021 - we tell you in detail

Not many people can confidently distinguish daytime running lights from side lights; they are often confused, which is not surprising.
DRL is an abbreviated name for a lighting source installed on a car in order to highlight the car on the road while driving during daylight hours. Side lights, on the contrary, are designed to indicate the dimensions of the car when parked or at night. DRL is an indispensable assistant in rain, fog, and insufficient visibility; it allows you to minimize the risk of an accident or collision with oncoming traffic. Systematic operation of DRLs leads to premature wear and burnout of diodes and contact boards due to a short circuit.
You will have to quickly pay attention to the breakdown, since driving in the daytime without DRL lights entails administrative liability and the imposition of a fine by traffic police officers. You can fix the problem yourself, but this requires experience and skills in carrying out repair work, which not every owner has. In order to minimize possible negative risks, it is strongly recommended to contact the service station to order the appropriate service.

Replacing DRL lamps in Hyundai Solaris 2021

In the 2021 model, instead of H27 lamps, conventional 1-pin P21W 12v lamps are installed in the fog lights and serve as daytime running lights. Replacement is done in exactly the same way, only the socket with the lamp is removed from the PTF.

Replacement of navigation lights on Solaris and our other services

The automobile workshop provides a full range of services for the restoration of technical equipment of various brands and modifications, including the Hyundai Solaris. Owners seek help in the prevention and replacement of lighting system elements, namely:

  • testing the electrical circuit of the lighting system, replacing damaged areas;
  • replacement of lamps, diodes of running lights of front optics and rear lights;
  • prevention and replacement of relays;
  • diagnostics of the fuse box, replacement of burnt out elements.

In addition to the above-mentioned work, craftsmen specialize in major repairs of the engine, gearbox, transmission, chassis, steering system, and brake system. Thanks to the presence of special boxes and repair areas, we are able to prepare the car for painting, priming, varnishing, and treating the bottom with anti-corrosion protection. As part of an individual order, we install non-standard equipment on technical means in order to reduce fuel consumption and increase power.

All work is carried out strictly according to the previously agreed schedule, there are no violations. This is possible due to the coordinated work of a team of professionals, masters of their craft. Modern equipment installed in the service allows you to inspect cars twice as quickly, print reports, and calculate the number of spare parts. The increase in the flow of visitors contributed to a decrease in the “live” queue, an increase in the service rating, and an increase in sales of spare parts.

Replacing the side light bulb on a Hyundai Solaris

Before replacing the side light bulb on a Hyundai Solaris, you must disconnect the negative terminal from the battery to avoid a short circuit. We will start the replacement from the right side, where access to the headlight unit is not burdened by anything.

The operating algorithm is as follows:

  1. Remove the plastic cover on the back of the headlight unit by turning it counterclockwise.

    Removing the headlight cover.

  2. We gain access to the halogen double-filament headlight lamp, side light lamp and turn signal lamp.

    Gained access.

  3. To replace the side lamp, it is necessary to remove the lamp socket from the headlight housing by pulling the wires towards you.

    Holder without marker lamp.

  4. Next, remove the lamp from the socket and install a new one in the same way.

    Old and new marker lamps.

  5. The socket is returned to its place in the headlight and the plastic cap is put on.

To replace the left side light bulb on a Hyundai Solaris, we use the same algorithm, with the only difference being that it is better to use a surgical clamp .

In this case, you do not have to remove the fuse box, and for convenience, you can only remove the plastic cover on this block. In some cases, if it is necessary to replace the headlight bulb on the left headlight, unscrew the two screws securing the headlight unit. This allows you to move it forward as much as possible and easily replace any lamp in the housing.

Replacement process

You can replace the lamps in a few moves, perhaps thanks to the technological solutions used in the production of Solaris. This advantage of this foreign car can please any car enthusiast, even one who is not very experienced in terms of vehicle repair.

  • Turn the protective cover on the back of the headlight counterclockwise and remove it.

  • Pull the plastic socket out of the headlight housing.
  • We take out the lamp from the socket.
  • We replace it with a new one.
  • We assemble everything in reverse order.

There is no need to perform any further actions; the whole process is completed in a few fairly simple steps. However, after the work has been done, you need to check the functionality of the new lamp; for this, a small diagnostic is carried out that does not require professional skills. It is performed in two stages:

  • The side lights of the Solaris are turned on, and the operation is visually checked.
  • If the dimensions do not light up, then the fuse may be faulty, which can be checked by removing it from its seat.

The side light lamps on the Hyundai Solaris are baseless, with a power of 5 Watts.

Many car enthusiasts do not like the standard color that the lamp emits, so they decide to take such actions for completely different reasons. Many people replace halogen lamps with LED lamps to slightly change the appearance of the car. White color is really much more pleasant to the human eye than yellow. Also, many believe that such a replacement can have an impact on safety, since the white color illuminates the road better than the stock yellow color. Each car enthusiast must independently determine whether he wants to change the lamps to others or whether he is comfortable with ordinary ones.

Also, any car enthusiast driving a Hyundai Solaris should know some details that seem insignificant, but are still important. The low and high beam is emitted by one H4 halogen lamp with a power consumption of 55/60 Watts. If your low or high beam headlights stop shining, the lamps are changed in pairs to avoid differences in color shades. You shouldn’t skimp on this, if only for reasons of the car’s appearance.

When and why is it necessary to replace the daytime running light on Solaris?

Help: Depending on the modification of the Hyundai Solaris car, the following can be used as DRLs:

  • low or high beam headlights, which are activated immediately after starting the engine;
  • low-voltage driving lights;
  • front turn signals activated permanently;
  • separately installed lamps;
  • fog lights, as the most effective option, as they do not blind drivers, have less reflective glare, and have the lowest energy consumption.

Typical signs of a malfunction are as follows:

  • The lighting device does not light up when activated;
  • an indicator on the center console indicates a malfunction in the power system;
  • The running lights burn intermittently, unstably, there is a feeling of insufficient voltage or poor contact.

The signs appear in a complex manner, which only helps the service station technician carry out diagnostics.

Frequent causes of breakdowns are:

  • long-term operation is a natural wear factor;
  • insufficient contact on the board;
  • low voltage in the system;
  • insufficient current supply from the generator;
  • damage to a section of the power cable;
  • mechanical damage due to an accident, impact, collision;
  • manufacturing defect factor;
  • violation of the technological process of the installation.

Reference: LED elements, which are installed by default from the factory, are characterized by high efficiency, low cost, and minimal environmental hazard.

Replacing the Hyundai Solaris running lights bulb

The main stages of replacing DRLs are as follows:

  • left or right side, depending on which side the diode is inoperative;
  • Using a screwdriver, the master unscrews the self-tapping screw that secures the bumper to the wing arch. If necessary, you can use WD-40 fluid to make it easier;
  • the side latches of the bumper bend, creating a gap with a sufficient opening for hand access;
  • the cartridge in which the diode is installed is turned out counterclockwise;
  • The diode is unscrewed and a new one is installed in its place. Reassemble procedure in reverse order.

If the algorithm is followed, installation of the cartridge into the housing should be accompanied by a characteristic click, indicating the success of the process. Otherwise, you need to reinstall the board or base.

Replacing bulbs in Hyundai Solaris DRL headlights

It happens that it becomes necessary to change the light bulb in the DRL headlight. Despite their reliability and durability, this sometimes happens. In this case, you can seek help from qualified specialists at a car service station or do it yourself.

Replacing a lamp yourself is a simple process. It is quite capable of any neat and savvy person, even without the skills of an auto mechanic.

Bulbs for Hyundai Solaris

How do you change light bulbs?

On the Internet they write about several ways to replace DRL lamps on Solaris. For example, unscrewing the bumper bolt above the wheel and bending the edge of the bumper. In this case, you need to carefully snap off the bumper so as not to break the fastenings. A gap is formed with access to the light bulb.

Another method is to partially remove the wheel liner. In this case, several clips will need to be removed and a gap will also form through which the light bulbs can be changed.

But there is another way, much simpler. You don’t need to unscrew or bend anything, you don’t even need any tools. For convenience, you can use a hole, or simply lay something in front of the bumper.

There are holes at the bottom of the bumper through which you can easily reach the light bulbs. It's best to start on the passenger side, as there is more space there and it will be easier to understand what's what.

The socket rotates 45 degrees, and the wire is long enough to remove the bulb from under the bumper for replacement.

What to choose

When replacing optics on Solaris, you cannot use kits with higher power ratings than recommended by the manufacturer. The brightness of the road lighting will not increase, but the car's electrical wiring will be constantly under overload. It is recommended to purchase lamps of the established parameter, which are on the list of recommended ones for a particular car.

Factory analogues used for Hyundai Solaris have the following characteristics:

  • 55/60 – power indicator for high and low beam;
  • H4 class (type) of the base;
  • L/L (long-life) resource.

It is possible to install LED elements that can replace standard halogen optics.

If the choice remains with halogen lamps for near and far optics, the following models can be installed in conventional headlights:

  1. Bosch Plus 90. Features an increased resource with standard performance.
  2. Philips Long Life EcoVision. Has a low cost.
  3. Narva RangePower +110. Brightness increased by 10%.
  4. Philips VisionPlus, X-treme Vision. Maximum illumination area, provide white light.

Philips Longlife EcoVision

Low beam bulbs for Hyundai Solaris manufactured by Philips, especially the Longlife EcoVision variety, are in great demand when replacing standard lights. The halogen flask is made of quartz glass, resistant to ultraviolet radiation. Standard parameters of the EcoVision line:

  • minimum service life – 100 thousand km;
  • heat resistance (for filament 2650 ºC, glass 800 ºC);
  • vibration resistance;
  • waterproof 100%.

The lamp bulb of the EcoVision range has a pressure 10% higher than that of standard lights, which produces a more powerful light beam. Quartz material maintains reliable operation of automotive optics even when drops of water fall on its surface, if the headlight housing has cracks.

When installing lights, it is recommended to change them in pairs to obtain the necessary symmetry of lighting.

Philips Vision Plus

The Dutch manufacturer Philips produces a line of halogen lamps labeled Vision Plus, where the lighting temperature is as close as possible to the 3500 K value of xenon light.

In optical instruments, quartz glass is used for the bulb, and the base is chrome-plated. Road lighting at night is improved due to the length of the light beam, compared to standard lamps, by 12-15 meters. All elements are installed in their standard places.

Philips X-Treme Vision

Models from the manufacturer Philips for Solaris X-Treme Vision have increased light output (+130%), the luminous flux for a narrow spectrum is more saturated. This provides good illumination of the road at night.

Among the shortcomings, some motorists note that the lamps do not sufficiently illuminate the roadsides, due to the strict beam of light from the main lights and the operation of the standard reflector. The service life corresponds to the declared one - this is at least 100 thousand kilometers.

Bosch Plus 90

All lighting devices from Bosch (country of manufacture Germany) comply with the manufacturer’s stated parameters of illumination, power and operating life. For Solaris low and high beam, the range of Bosch Plus 90 optics is considered one of the best.

Replacing low beam lamps Solaris 2021

To make it more convenient to replace the lamp on the left side in the Hyundai Solaris 2017, Hyundai Solaris II, you need to remove the plastic protection.

After removing the protection, the lamp becomes accessible and can be replaced.

Without removing protection

There is also a way to replace the paw without removing the plastic protection.

1 The protective cover must be removed.

2 Next, you need to press your finger on the edge of the lamp base and turn it half a turn counterclockwise.

3 We take out the old lamp

When installing a new lamp, hold the lamp with one finger and turn it half a turn with the other.

Assembling the headlight is carried out in the reverse order, but if you still have any questions, write them in the comments.

How to replace lamps

Changing a light bulb is quite easy; no special knowledge or skills are required. The tools you will need are a standard motorist kit. Before replacing daytime running lights or any others (installing LED lamps, etc.), you will need:

  • Place the car on a level surface in a well-lit place;
  • turn off the ignition;
  • secure the open hood;
  • remove the terminals from the battery.

Replacing DRL, fog and side lamps has some technical differences. All optics are connected as standard.

When installing, you must wear textile gloves: do not touch the flask with your hands.

Low beam

Inspecting the headlight housing under the hood and removing dirt are the first steps before replacing the low beam lamp on a Hyundai Solaris. The work takes place in stages:

  1. Remove the protective cover. There are special petals installed on it; when turned from right to left, the clamps come out of the groove, and the block is easily removed.
  2. The assembly contains a block that needs to be removed: pull the housing towards you, slightly moving the connector, freeing the block from stuck contacts.
  3. Move the connector to the side.
  4. The headlights are held in the headlight by a special connector, the protrusion of which is fixed in the headlight housing. Press the latch and release one end of the connector.
  5. Remove the old part and install the new element.

The protrusions on the base will prevent the new bulb from being installed correctly. Two of them should be directed downwards, one upwards.

Before correcting the optics, you should check that the running lights turn on automatically. The fuse located on the block in the engine compartment (main unit) is inspected. The additional fuse in the Hyundai Solaris is located under the steering wheel on the left.
