What kind of oil to fill in the Mitsubishi ASX engine

Mitsubishi ASX is a compact urban crossover, which is currently available only on the secondary market. In this regard, the question of the possibility of self-service of this car is now more than relevant. The machine is quite reliable and made of high-quality components. But as the car ages, the topic of repair becomes more relevant and, moreover, not everyone wants to use the expensive services of a Mitsubishi dealership. Therefore, more and more owners are adapting to maintenance themselves. There is no question of any complex repairs here, because to begin with it is enough to replace consumables - for example, change the engine oil. This is one of the simplest and yet most important ASX maintenance procedures. Let's take a closer look at it.

Oil change intervals

In general, the manufacturer recommends replacing this technical fluid every 15 thousand kilometers or 12 months. In severe operating conditions, it is recommended to perform this procedure twice as often - every 7,500 km or 6 months.

Severe operating conditions mean:

  • frequent trips over distances not exceeding 8 km at positive temperatures or 16 km at negative temperatures;
  • long-term operation of the power unit at idle speed - in traffic jams, with long stops;
  • operating a vehicle at high air temperatures exceeding 32 degrees Celsius;
  • towing a trailer or other vehicles, frequent trips in mountainous areas on bad roads.

The volume of Mitsubishi ACX oil to be filled is 4.0 liters. When purchasing a 5.0 liter canister, you have one liter left over in case you need to top up the liquid.

Recommended services for selecting automobile oils

If you already have preferences in the brand, then everything is even simpler. It is enough to go to any service for selecting automobile oils of the desired brand and the manufacturer will select the oil that will be compatible with your engine. The table contains the most popular brands and selection services from these brands. We go to any of the sites in the table and select the make, model of the car, engine and year of manufacture.

How much oil to fill in a Mitsubishi ACX engine

First generation GA, 2010-2021

The ASX is built on the platform of the Lancer and Outlander XL, and also has a fully independent suspension (MacPherson spring at the front and a multi-link at the rear) and disc brakes all around. Initially, the design of the car corresponded to the style of the Concept cX concept car, in the image of which the Lancer X and Outlander XL were also made. The length of the crossover is 4300 mm, and the wheelbase reaches 2670 mm. The width and height of the body are 1770 and 1615 mm, and with roof rails – +10 mm.

Depending on the configuration, the crossover can be front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Considering the design, you can pay attention to the signature JetFighter radiator grille. The minimum volume of the luggage compartment is 419 liters, but with the rear seats folded down it increases to 1219 liters. The ASX is well equipped for its segment, and the most expensive versions have many options worthy of a higher class. For example, an 8-speaker Rockford premium audio system with USB and a panoramic roof with UV protection may be available.

Maintenance procedure

First of all, you should warm up the variator to operating temperature and measure the transmission fluid level on the dipstick. It will need to be remembered or photographed. Then we proceed in the following order.

We arm ourselves with a container of a suitable size (a regular bucket with a capacity of 8–12 liters will do), unscrew the drain plug and drain the waste. Raise the car with a jack or lift and remove the left front wheel. We dismantle the locker in order to gain access to one of the oil cooler bolts. We move into the engine compartment to remove the battery and dismantle the battery. Children and people with weak nerves are asked to leave. This work on a Mitsubishi ACX can hardly be completed without the use of profanity. Access to the fasteners is very difficult. We substitute a ditch or other container, and in extreme cases, lay down newspapers or rags. After this, unscrew the 4 bolts and remove the oil cooler. 100 - 200 ml of oil will flow out of it. We remove the used filter and seal and send them to the scrapyard. After unscrewing the bolts, remove the pan, supporting it with your hand

This will have to be done carefully. On a Mitsubishi ACX without a transmission oil cooler, about 200 ml of oil will remain in the pan

If the radiator is installed, about a liter of liquid will leak out. After unscrewing the 3 bolts, remove the coarse filter. We act carefully so as not to lose the sealing ring. We clean the tray and chip collecting magnets from any remaining dirt. We wash the coarse filter and install it in place, not forgetting about the rubber ring.

We continue further.

  1. We place and secure the pallet. The tightening force of the bolts is 7.9 N, no more. Otherwise, the threads on the CVT body may be stripped.
  2. After replacing the gasket and filter, we install the oil cooler.
  3. We return removed components to their original locations.
  4. Using a measuring cup, we determine the total amount of lubricant drained. We measure out the same volume of fresh oil.
  5. Through the hole in the chip, fill the variator with transmission fluid to the COLD mark. In the case of Mitsubishi ACX, this will require about 4 liters.
  6. Let's start the engine. With five-second pauses, we sequentially switch the selector modes in positions R, D and N. We turn off the engine and check the level. The liquid should go away.
  7. Add the rest. We start the car, warm up the CVT and check the level again. If you did everything correctly, the amount of lubricant should correspond to what was noted before the start of service.

After this, all that remains is to connect the adapter to the connector provided by the Mitsubishi ACX design and, following the instructions for the software, reset the transmission oil aging counter.
The work is completed. Repairing a Mitsubishi ACX is not the easiest task. Without at least an initial level of professional training, you should not start changing the fluid in a CVT yourself. However, a do-it-yourself procedure allows you to save about 8–10 thousand rubles at a time and is a guarantee that the service was performed efficiently and in full.

When to change the oil in the variator

Most car owners are guided by technical regulations, according to which the transmission oil is changed after 40-60 thousand kilometers. This frequency is optimal for maintaining the normal operation of the gearbox and preventing critical problems. But in some situations (for example, after purchasing a used car), the driver does not have information about when the previous oil change was performed. In such cases, the variator should be serviced as soon as possible to avoid possible breakdowns. Also a sign of excessive wear of the transmission oil is increased fuel consumption. This is explained by the fact that the used lubricating fluid becomes too viscous, as a result of which the friction forces between the gearbox parts increase. Accordingly, additional energy is spent on overcoming them.

How to choose oil

This question is asked by every inexperienced or professional motorist. Indeed, it is not always possible to immediately decide on the appropriate fluid for an ASX engine, given the huge variety of lubricant companies. Among them, of course, it is better to choose the most famous and status brands, which, at the same time, are considered the most expensive. Buying an analogue is a very controversial issue. To choose a suitable analogue, you need to know the oil parameters specified in the Mitsubishi ASX operating instructions.

Mitsubishi has its own, original oil, with which the crossover of the same name rolled off the factory assembly line. So, we are talking about an Engine Oil product with a viscosity class of 5W-30. Thus, we have a fully synthetic oil that meets all international API and ALSAC standards. In general, synthetics are the best option for a modern car.

What kind of oil should I use?

What kind of oil to use was the question every Mitsubishi ACX owner asked. And not without reason, because these cars are sensitive to the filling of lubricating fluid, which means that the choice of consumables should be approached with all responsibility. Therefore, Mitsubishi, like many other global auto manufacturers, has launched the production of its own oil.

Mitsubishi ACX car

The manufacturer recommends filling ACX vehicles exclusively with original Engine Oil fluid. In terms of its viscosity class, this MM (motor oil) corresponds to the 5W30 classification and is a fully synthetic consumable. It complies with international API and ILSAC specifications.

How much should you pour? When replacing engine fluid, about 4.2 liters of material will enter the engine, so before replacing it is recommended to purchase a five-liter canister of fluid. It is advisable to have a small supply of oil on hand so that you can add it if necessary. According to the regulations, the MM must be replaced every 15 thousand kilometers. But if we take into account the not very high quality of fuel and the operating conditions of the car on domestic roads, then this interval should be reduced to 10 thousand km. However, this is what most Mitsubishi ACX car owners do.

In any case, Japanese-made cars require only high-quality MM. Therefore, the manufacturer’s recommendations should be taken seriously. If you are unable to find such a MM in your city, then try to contact the dealer and order products through him. You can also try purchasing oil online.
