If you are planning to carry out serious tuning of a VAZ 2109 car, first of all you should think about sound insulation, because it is not for nothing that the nine was called “rattle”. This is partly due to the not very good quality of the plastic parts, as well as the assembly itself. Before getting down to business, it’s worth deciding on the material, since the result, complexity of the work, as well as financial costs will depend on this.
First you need to disassemble the entire interior: remove the seats, trims, and instrument panel. Actually, as a result, bare metal should remain in the cabin. By the way, since you’ve already gotten to it, check all the plugs and possible problem or rusty areas. Make repairs where necessary.
We begin pasting the interior from the engine shield, and if necessary, apply sound insulation in two layers. At the end of the work, do not forget to restore the ventilation holes.
Important. Before gluing, clean the metal with a rag soaked in acetone, alcohol or another degreaser. There is no point in treating the entire interior at once, since during the work the surface will get dirty, so the surface is degreased immediately before pasting.
Engine
In order for a car to feel confident on the road and not be inferior to other cars at the start, it is necessary to improve its engine. Before this, it is necessary to upgrade the brake system and gearbox, only in this case you will be able to drive not only quickly, but also safely.
By tuning the VAZ 2109 engine, you can increase its volume to 1.7 liters. You shouldn’t increase it any further, as the motor will start to overheat and quickly fail.

Refinement of the engine consists of installing the following parts:
- lightweight crankshaft;
- forged pistons coated with molybdenum disulfide;
- lightweight connecting rods;
- piston pins with tapered chamfers.
In addition, you can replace the standard cylinder head with a head from Lada Kalina. The existing engine mounts are replaced with reinforced ones and the camshaft is replaced. As a result of such modifications, the car becomes more playful and powerful. It can accelerate to 180 km/h and produces 98 hp. With. Audio system

To make your sound as spacious as possible, you can make a 7.1 system. To do this, you need to install two speakers in the front door cards, two on the rear parcel shelf, and two on the A-pillars. You also need to think about high-quality bass; for this, the subwoofer is usually placed in the trunk, and an amplifier can also be placed there.
In order for your entire system to work efficiently, and not just reproduce a loud crash, the car radio must also be of high quality. It is worth paying attention to the maximum output power, however, if it is not enough, the situation can be corrected by an amplifier.

Lighting system
The factory lighting system of the VAZ 2109 is quite good, but does not have a very attractive appearance. The problem with the headlights offered for replacement is their low quality, so you need to make your choice carefully. By purchasing and installing low-quality but beautiful headlights, you will significantly worsen the lighting, and this will negatively affect traffic safety. The lighting system can be modified as follows:

- xenon headlights, but there is a fine for this and they cause inconvenience to other drivers and passers-by;

The plastic on taillights often becomes cloudy, which impairs its appearance and quality of lighting. To fix the problem, you can buy new plastic, but sometimes it is enough to polish the one you have. This will improve the appearance of the lights and the brightness of the lighting, making the car more visible at night and in fog.

Appearance
Before tuning a VAZ 2109 with your own hands, you can design a virtual model of the finished car. For this, there are sites that allow online 3D tuning of the nine. The principle of operation of such a site is quite simple:

Wheels and tires
One of the common types of VAZ 2109 modernization is the replacement of standard wheel rims. The stamped ones, which are standardly installed on the car, have an outdated design and make the car heavier. However, their advantage lies in their high strength.
As a result of the modification, alloy wheels are installed. They have a presentable design, light weight, and the presence of additional holes between the disc spokes contributes to more efficient cooling of the car's brakes. The disadvantages of this type of tuning of the VAZ 2109 include the high cost of wheels and their lower strength compared to stamped ones.
In terms of disc diameter, 15-16-inch options are usually chosen. In some cases, you can find wheels with a diameter of 17 inches on cars. However, low-profile tires are installed on such wheels.
Installing large-diameter wheel rims (from 18 inches) implies the presence of welding joints on the car - widened and elongated wheel arches. Otherwise, the large wheels on the VAZ 2109 will come into contact with the wheel arch when the car is moving, and dirt from under the wheels will fall on the car body.
Optics
Installing new headlights is one of the types of beautiful tuning of the VAZ 2109. The standard front lighting fixtures of the car are replaced with xenon or halogen lights, and the reflectors are changed. LED running lights and new dimensions (“angel eyes”) are mounted on the front bumper or directly in the headlight itself.
Trunk
Tuning the trunk of a VAZ 2109 is not the most creative activity, and given the fact that no one will see it anyway, it’s worth thinking only about the practical side of the issue. Firstly, as already mentioned above, a subwoofer and an amplifier will coexist perfectly in the trunk. Secondly, you can reupholster it on leather, faux leather, material with an interesting color, or simply on something more resistant to external influences. And finally, you can organize LED lighting, which will be extremely useful at night.
Design differences
What is the difference between 2109 and 21099?
Even though these two cars are very similar, there are still some differences between them.
So, 21099 had the following features:
- A different radiator grille configuration.
- Instrument panel with a tachometer (early versions).
- The rear overhang of the body has been increased by 20 centimeters.
Variations
VAZ 2109 and 21099 had modifications with identical technical characteristics.
Therefore, it is more logical to present only the power units with which these models were equipped:
- The engine is 1.3 liters with an output of 64 horsepower.
- The engine is 1.5 liters, producing 70 horsepower.
- Installation of 1.5 liters with fuel injection system. Develops 78 “horses”.
All engines were equipped with a five-speed manual transmission.
It is worth noting that later versions of Lada 21099 received a 1.6 liter engine that produced 81 horsepower. In addition, its power range lacked a 1.1-liter unit, which was equipped with both the Nine and Eight.
Doors
In the case of tuning doors, there are two options. Firstly, you can install power windows, which will make you feel like you are driving a foreign car and make the ride more comfortable. Secondly, the door cards can be completely changed by ordering ready-made accessories for tuning or by upholstering existing ones with a different material.
