Nissan Terrano: review, vehicle specifications, test drive

Options and prices

The number of developed variations of the model allows each potential buyer to choose the most suitable modification.

On the Russian market, the crossover is presented in four different trim levels:

  • Comfort;
  • Elegance;
  • Elegance Plus;
  • Tekna.

If the last configuration is available in only one modification, then the other three are produced in several variations.

In addition to a set of basic and additional functions, modifications differ mainly in the following parameters:

  • engine volume - 1.6 or 2.0 liters;
  • drive type - 2WD or 4WD;
  • type of gearbox - manual or automatic.

The following list will help you visually compare the Terrano variations existing on the Russian market.

Crossover configurations and their modifications (general parameters in brackets), the cost is indicated in rubles:

  • Comfort (1.6 l, manual): 2WD - from 870,000, 4WD - from 960,000;
  • Elegance (1.6 l, manual): 2WD - from 940,000, 4WD - from 1,010,000;
  • Elegance (2.0 l, 4WD): manual – from 1,050,000, automatic – from 1,100,000;
  • Elegance Plus (1.6 l, manual, 2WD) - from 960,000;
  • Elegance Plus (2.0 l, 4WD): manual – from 1,070,000, automatic – from 1,130,000;
  • Tekna (2.0 l, automatic, 4WD) - from 1,150,000.

Thus, the manufacturer has included ten modifications in four trim levels of the model, so that every car enthusiast can choose a car that best suits his personal requirements.

Exterior design

Nissan SUVs are difficult to confuse with models produced by other brands. The new variety inherited the main distinctive features of the brand.

Design Features:

  • large chrome radiator grille;
  • arches on the roof of a car designed for securing cargo;
  • expressive outlines of the hood and windows;
  • large circle logo on the radiator grille.

With its entire appearance, the car demonstrates power, reliability and endurance - this is how an SUV should look. But at the same time, the aggressiveness of the design does not go off scale; it is softened by smooth, rounded lines. Thanks to this unique balance of exterior design on the verge of harsh rigidity and cozy softness, the Terrano will appeal to both those who need a car for trips to the Russian outback for fishing or hunting, and those who are going to take their children to kindergarten or school by car. go to the store and to the country.

It is especially worth noting the dimensions of the car. Its length exceeds 4.3 meters. In this case, the width reaches 1.82 meters, and the height is 1.62 meters. The wheelbase is 2.67 meters. Ground clearance exceeds 20 centimeters.

Body type

The body of the model is a station wagon in all its glory. Some features are reminiscent of its closest relative, the sedan: expanded dimensions, larger luggage compartment and an additional rear door that lifts up. The five-door station wagon looks very presentable.

The design is strict and laconic. As the manufacturer emphasizes, the car has a solid masculine appearance, and this is true.

The external contours of the crossover are very typical for Nissan SUVs and are therefore recognizable. However, it cannot be said that Terrano has not been affected by changes and innovations.

Several catchy details have changed:

  • the radiator grille has increased;
  • the headlights have a more narrowed shape and a new set of light bulbs: the headlights now combine LED and halogen elements;
  • the openings for the fog lights have noticeably changed in size and moved closer to the wheel arches, which made the light supply more powerful and wider.

The lower part of the bumper received reinforcement in the form of a protective coating, insuring the car from mechanical damage (from stones, potholes, etc.). The sides of the car have athletic relief shapes. They are mostly formed by massive protruding wheel arches and stamping. To ensure comfortable entry and exit of passengers, special thresholds are installed under each door.

Colors

The color range of the body paint pleasantly surprises with its diversity.

The car is available for purchase in the following colors:

  • beige;
  • white;
  • red;
  • silver;
  • gray;
  • blue;
  • black.

According to the manufacturer's price list, metallic color will cost the buyer more than other colors. In all trim levels and modifications of the car, the front bumper is painted in the same color as the body.

Salon

From the inside, “Terrano” is spacious. The five-seat cabin allows five adults to sit comfortably. If there are only two people riding in the back seat, then if they wish, they can separate their seats; to do this, you just need to lower the backrest in the middle. It turns into a convenient shelf-armrest.

The interior looks very attractive. In cheaper trim levels, the interior is trimmed with high-quality black fabric. Expensive modifications have a leather interior.

All control devices are located close to each other, which greatly simplifies their use - the driver intuitively feels which device he needs at the moment. The ability to customize almost all the contents of the cabin and an increased level of convenience are the highlights of the model.

A review of the interior features of this car will be incomplete without a separate mention of the luggage compartment, which in a certain sense is part of the interior.

The trunk is very roomy, and the high-opening wide fifth door makes it easy to load all the necessary items (even oversized ones) into the compartment.

Two nuances of using the luggage compartment:

  1. Folding the rear seatback doubles the cargo area as it extends all the way to the backs of the front seats. In this case, the folded backrest coincides in level with the bottom of the trunk, so that a wide, flat shelf is obtained.
  2. The compartment has a removable shelf that matches the length and width of the trunk. By installing it in special slots, you can hide the transported cargo from prying eyes and protect it from sunlight. In addition, this will equip the salon with an additional tier - you can place some small things on the shelf.

The luggage compartment is large, its volume is 480 liters. With the rear seats folded, this figure increases to 1630 liters.

Dimensions of Nissan Terrano:

Let's talk about the size of the crossover. With a length of 4342 and a width of 1822, the height of the car is 1668 millimeters. The Nissan wheelbase is within 2674 mm, and the ground clearance, as already mentioned, is 205 mm.

Additional characteristics:

  • Maximum trunk volume -1635l;
  • Tank volume – 50l;
  • Total weight – 1226 kg;
  • The width of both the front and rear tracks is 1560mm.

Specifications

The key differences between Nissan Terrano car models are technical characteristics. Depending on the configuration and modification, the crossover is equipped with one of two engine options.

A “flame motor” of a car can be:

  • volume 1.6 liters (power - 114 horsepower, torque - 156 Nm);
  • volume of 2.0 liters (power - 143 horsepower, torque - 195 Nm).

The first is equipped with only a mechanical gearbox. In this case, the drive can be either 4WD (all-wheel drive) or 2WD. This means front-wheel drive; rear-wheel drive is not provided in any Terrano modification.

The two-liter engine is equipped with all-wheel drive only, the transmission can be installed as a six-speed manual or a four-speed automatic.

Regardless of the volume, the engine is gasoline, 16-valve, with distributed injection. The motor is located in front, transversely. The four cylinders of the engine are arranged in a row.

As for the suspension, on all Terrano models the front suspension is independent of the MacPherson type. The rear differs depending on the drive. For trim levels with 4WD it is an independent multi-link design. Modifications with 2WD have a budget rear suspension - a semi-independent torsion beam.

Nissan Terrano

Nissan Terrano is the only car that can compete with the successful and popular Renault Duster model. The success of a budget crossover is due to the optimal combination of appearance, technical capabilities and cost of the model. Without a doubt, the same can be said about the Nissan Terrano SUV, presented at an exhibition in India. Japanese developers kept the intrigue, and until the very end motorists had to wonder what kind of new Terrano they had prepared for the public.

The basis for the car was the same Nissan B0 platform for the famous Renault Duster model, and for the updated Renault Logan. Otherwise, the car is significantly different from its French counterparts. The Japanese tried to improve the class of the car so that it fully corresponds to the brand, and made a number of changes that distinguish both the appearance and technical characteristics of the new Nissan Terrano 2021.

Comfort and safety

Perhaps, for drivers looking closely at the Nissan Terrano, a review of the equipment, on which the convenience and reliability of operation depends, will be more important than the external and internal appearance and technical parameters of this car.

When developing the internal equipment, the manufacturer took care to ensure safety and comfort.

This was expressed as follows:

  • a set of airbags;
  • power steering;
  • automatic door locking when starting to move;
  • ABS system (anti-lock brakes);
  • ESP system (dynamic stabilization);
  • climate control system;
  • rear parking sensors;
  • rear view camera.

Some of the listed equipment is present in all Terrano models, but some functions are missing in the basic versions.

The seats are very comfortable. The front pair is equipped with position adjustment and a heating system with a control panel. The headrests can be adjusted in height. In addition, it is possible to change the height of the steering wheel.

The Terrano's standard equipment includes a full-size spare wheel. Among other things, the car is equipped with a special engine starting system in the cold season and an electrically heated windshield.

Advantages and disadvantages of Nissan Terrano

Let's talk about whether it's worth buying this car or opting for another crossover. To be honest, the technical characteristics of the Nissan Terrano, which are in no way superior to the same Duster, have more disadvantages than advantages, the most important of which is the high cost of the car.

In addition, the disadvantages are:

  • Engine. The new Nissan Terrano is equipped with the old engine from Duster, although the model is newer. In addition, the option with a diesel engine is not available to domestic consumers, which significantly reduces demand.
  • Front wheel drive only with automatic transmission. In this regard, the French car wins again. Although the Terrano has a 6-speed manual, in practice it is almost useless, as fuel consumption increases and acceleration decreases.
  • Worst dynamics. The main technical characteristics of the Nissan Terrano, engine characteristics, maximum speed and efficiency do not speak in favor of this model.

The only advantages of Terrano can definitely be called its stylish appearance and brand name.

Additional functions

The range of functions depends on the model configuration. Of course, the amount of additional equipment directly affects the cost of the modification. It is especially worth noting the functionality of models with 4WD.

All-wheel drive configurations are equipped with an All-Mode system, which includes several modes:

  1. 2WD. When driving on a dry asphalt road, it allows you to transfer all the torque to a pair of front wheels, which will reduce fuel consumption.
  2. Auto. Automatically distributes torque across all axles, which guarantees optimal traction, directional stability and the best handling.
  3. Lock. Allows you to forcefully, electronically, block the center clutch. At the same time, the mode launches a special program for off-road engine and brake control - a set of these actions helps to safely overcome weak surfaces (sand, mud, etc.).

The suspension is equipped with an anti-roll bar, which reduces roll when turning at high speed and protects the car from rolling over on its side.

Salon Nissan Terrano 2015

The desire to move the crossover into another class is clearly evident in the car’s interior. The Japanese had to redo absolutely everything in the cabin, from vibration and noise-absorbing insulation to seat material and interior upholstery. In general, the Terrano's interior design meets all the requirements of a modern SUV.

The model can be with right or left steering wheel, which does not in any way affect the design of the interior space. Terrano seats have become more comfortable compared to Renault cars with a similar platform. It is noticeable to the naked eye that the chairs have been greatly altered, changing both shape and design. Of course, heated front seats are not included as standard, but more expensive options do have them. The rear seats are equipped with a third headrest, which was not present in the Duster, and the upholstery materials are of high quality.

As for the instrument panel, it very much resembles the dashboard of Renault cars. We can say that the instruments were simply borrowed from the French, which is clearly visible in the form of the on-board computer display, and in the fuel level and engine temperature scales, which are displayed in stripes. The only thing that has changed in the instrument panel is the material from which it is made. It has become more expensive and of higher quality.

Test Drive

The 1.6-liter engine trims are ideal for city driving or short bursts over rough terrain. Estimated fuel consumption is 7 liters per 100 kilometers. The Terrano gas tank capacity is 50 liters.

Modifications with a two-liter engine are intended mainly for long journeys in areas with poor road conditions. A motor with this power consumes an average of 8 liters per 100 kilometers.

The maximum speed of the Terrano ranges from 170 to 180 km/h (depending on the model modification). Acceleration time to a speed of 100 km/h is slightly more than 10 seconds.

The off-road geometry of the crossover is very good, apparently due to the presence of a lateral stability system:

  • The approach angle is 28.5°;
  • the longitudinal pass angle is 23°;
  • The departure angle reaches 33.3°.

Of course, the Nissan is far from having the cross-country ability of a Gelendvagen, however, the car can easily overcome difficult countryside terrain, including river fords, sand embankments, etc.

Car appearance

The crossover has a unique appearance, which, as already mentioned, is fundamentally different from the original. The most noticeable detail is the radiator grille, which has become larger and acquired a signature V-shaped design. A large number of chrome body elements allows the Terrano to look more solid, visually emphasizing the high class of the car.

The headlights of the new SUV have a more modern look. They go well with the main style and look quite harmonious. In addition, lensed optics always add representativeness. The Nissan body is not as voluminous as that of Renault, and looks more dimensional, thanks to the small stamping on the hood. A wide strip of fine mesh is located in place of the front bumper, and stretches almost to the fog lights.

When looking at the 2015 Nissan Terrano from the side, differences in appearance are also noticeable. The crossover profile is distinguished by its swiftness and perfect lines. This effect is achieved thanks to the modernized front bumper. Nissan branded wheels immediately catch the eye when looking at the Terrano. They have become a kind of symbol of the brand, and allow you to instantly identify the car. The fact is that the Terrano model was previously known in some countries as the Pathfinder, and in the last generation it had just such disks.

Depending on the configuration, the car can be equipped with chrome side mirrors and roof rails, as well as door handles. Decorative door sill covers are also available to the buyer.

Main competitors

Among the cars of the compact crossover class presented on the Russian market, the Nissan Terrano model has many competitors.

Particularly similar in technical characteristics to this car are:

  • Renault Capture;
  • "Renault Sandero";
  • "Nissan Qashqai";
  • "Nissan Beetle";
  • "Renault Logan";
  • Renault Duster.

The latter has been the cause of heated debate among motorists for many years over the right of the Nissan analogue to exist.

Reviews from Terrano owners are distributed in the approximate ratio:

  • 60% - positive;
  • 40% are negative.

The essence of negative reviews from car owners is not that the model has any shortcomings, but that, in their opinion, in terms of technical equipment, the car is identical to the Renault Duster model, but costs about 100,000 rubles more. To a certain extent, they are right - the Terrano model, created on the basis of the Duster, has undergone a transformation in terms of interior and exterior design. The technical parameters of the models are similar.

What does the term “vehicle dimensions” mean?

Some people have not even heard of such a concept as “car dimensions”, and if they have, they have no idea what it means. Of course, if a person is not a motorist, then there is nothing to worry about. But motorists need to have an idea of what the car’s dimensions are.

In fact, there is nothing complicated here, the dimensions of the Nissan Terrano are its size, that is, the length of the car, its width and height. A person, choosing a car on the Internet and knowing its dimensions, will be able to imagine what his car will roughly look like.
