The service life of VAZ-2109 silent blocks is 30 thousand kilometers. If you prefer to move carelessly - you often fall into potholes or drive over uneven road surfaces at high speed, then the service life of this element can be reduced by almost half. Let's figure out how to replace the silent blocks of the rear beam on a VAZ-2109.
Replacing rear beam silent blocks on a VAZ 2109
Silent blocks produced by AvtoVAZ can safely be called one of the highest quality parts. It is not surprising that other foreign manufacturers also use them for their cars.
Element appearance
The durability of almost any part, including the silent block, directly depends on the driving style of the motorist. The service life of the element is more than 30 thousand kilometers.
Required Tools
The first thing you need to do is purchase suitable silent blocks (see the article “Which silent blocks are better, rubber or polyurethane”). The simplest option would be to purchase a wear-resistant rubber part. But, in this case, you need to prepare for their rapid wear. Spare parts made from polyurethane are more durable, but they cost 3 times more. It is advisable to use original silent blocks. If desired, you can use a part from a VAZ-2110; they are considered more durable. You will have to tinker with the installation of such an elastic band; it is slightly larger in diameter and will not fit into place easily.
- Collar;
- Puller for silent blocks;
- Mount;
- Jack;
- Metal brush;
- Heavy hammer or small sledgehammer.
Replacing the rear silent blocks of a VAZ 2109
For VAZ-2109 owners at the 100,000 km mark.
mileage, special attention must be paid to the rear suspension. Usually, by this moment one of the elements of its design, the silent block, becomes unusable, although when the car is used on bad roads, wear accelerates significantly. The need for replacement is determined very simply: when it is worn out, you will hear characteristic creaks and knocking sounds on the right or left behind. In more severe cases, increased (and uneven) tire wear may occur, coupled with unstable behavior of the rear of the car in corners. Fortunately, domestic cars are extremely repairable even in spartan conditions, so you can easily replace a damaged part in your garage. How to change silent blocks on a VAZ 2109, read below.
Tools and materials:
What you will need:
- wheel wrench:
- new silent block (article 2108-2914054)
- 2 spanners for 19;
- hammer and drift;
- 2 jacks;
- a small piece of wood of a certain size.
Silent blocks come in two types: rubber and polyurethane. According to the standard, “Samara” is placed first. They are quite soft and have a reasonable price, although they are not very durable. The latter last longer, withstand temperature fluctuations better, but are also noticeably tougher (and even significantly more expensive).
If we talk about manufacturers, there are a lot of them - from VAZ, which is well known, to SS20 and SEVI, which are unfamiliar to a wide range of car enthusiasts. So there is a choice, and it’s up to you to decide what to install – original or non-original, polyurethane or rubber.
Replacing the silent blocks of the rear beam of a VAZ 2109
1) To begin, place the car on a jack and remove the wheel from the desired side using a wheel wrench.
2) Next, take the 19mm wrenches and unscrew the nuts on the bolts securing the bracket and rear beam.
3) Then you need to remove the mounting bracket (it will be on the left) and disconnect the pressure regulator rod in the brake system.
4) Now you can pull out the bolt itself and move the rear beam eye downwards. Keep in mind that it must be fixed in this position. The ideal option for this is a small wooden block, which should be placed in the space between the beam and the body.
5) Arm yourself with a hammer and a drift, then knock out the old silent block.
6) Take a new part and a device for pressing it in, generously coat the seat and the silent block itself with soapy water (it will act as a lubricant) and install it.
7) Take another jack, remove the block and raise the beam to the desired level, then insert the bolt and tighten the nut, but do not tighten it. Place the mounting bracket and rod in place.
Place the wheel and remove the car from the jack. Having opened the trunk, sit in the opening and try to rock the car up and down with a large amplitude so that the silent block fits completely into place. Now the nuts of the mounting bolts can be tightened completely.
Important nuances and points
If the nuts are very rusty, clean them with a wire brush, spray them with WD-40 and unscrew them with a wrench with a pipe on it. The long lever of force will help you move the nut, and then you can do it without the pipe.
There is no need to move the beam down particularly much - there is a risk of breaking the brake hose, which could result in its replacement, coupled with pouring in new fluid and bleeding the system due to airing.
Under no circumstances try to lubricate a new silent block with oil or grease/lithol before installation! They will quickly corrode the rubber, so the best choice is a soap solution or dishwashing detergent.
It is easy to see that there is nothing extremely complicated about replacing the silent block in the rear axle, however, this procedure is not entirely simple. So if you are doing this for the first time, it is advisable to ask a more experienced person to assist you in some stages, and then you will succeed.
Important points
- It can be difficult to remove the silent block fastening nut (during operation it becomes very rusty and is often literally welded to the bolt). Therefore, it makes sense to put a 19 piece of pipe on the socket wrench. This will increase leverage and reduce effort.
- When moving the beam eye down using a pry bar, you should not be too zealous, since there is a brake hose next to it. If you apply too much force when moving the beam, this hose can easily be torn off.
- To fix the eye in the lowest position, you can use not only a mount, but also a wooden block with a cross-section of 4x4 cm (and many car enthusiasts find this a more convenient solution).
- Before pressing in a new one, it (as well as the place where it will be installed) should be generously lubricated. However, it is strictly forbidden to use oil or grease as a lubricant, since the oil will corrode the surface of the silent block over time. For lubrication, it is better to use soapy water, or even better, regular dishwashing detergent, which can be purchased at any hardware store.
As can be seen from this article, even a novice car enthusiast can replace the rear silent blocks on a VAZ 2109 car. And for this it is not at all necessary to go to a service center. All you need to do is be patient, strictly follow the instructions above and follow safety precautions.
The third stage of replacing silent blocks: purchasing and preparing the necessary tools
Let us outline a list of materials and tools that should be prepared in order to positively implement all the advice on how to change the rear silent blocks on a VAZ 21099.
- A set of new silent blocks for the VAZ 2109 car (purchased at the discretion of the car owner, his views on the quality and price of the product, delivery availability)
- A set of socket heads and wrenches, sometimes you have to select them at the work site, so it’s worth stocking up on them for all unforeseen cases.
- Set of spanners. They occur during installation work.
- Special kit for removing rear silent blocks (industrial standard recommended). On the market, the seller can call it: “Ball joint and joint remover.” It costs on average 500-1200 rubles. But you can use the old-fashioned method - a hammer and chisel.
- Wire brush. It will be needed during the period of cleaning parts, seats from dirt, rust and other foreign deposits that interfere with the operation of the suspension system.
- Mount. Necessary for performing power work, mainly for the installation of beams and large segments of the rear of the machine.
- Jack (2 pieces).
- Wrenches for wheel bolts. They will be needed if you plan to remove the tires in order to provide better access to the repair site. Although it is not necessary to remove the wheels, for repairs it is enough to use jacks to protect the car from rocking.
- Sledgehammer, hammer, chisel, if you have to forcefully knock out old parts.
- Wooden blocks (2 pcs.) or metal stands for the car. Their task is to fix the car body in the desired position.
Thus, a thorough preparatory work is required to collect information about the faulty part, study all the features of the suspension device in order to clearly know and understand how to change the rear silent blocks on a VAZ 2109 yourself. And is it worth taking on, maybe it’s better to trust a specialist, especially if there are very few tools accumulated in the garage, and you should buy more or beg them from friends.
What is a silent block
New rear silent blocks of the VAZ 2109 car
This is a part consisting of one or two metal bushings of different diameters. Between them there is an elastomer (this can be either special wear-resistant rubber or polyurethane). The main purpose of the block is to connect the suspension arms and dampen vibrations that inevitably arise when the car moves. This part successfully copes with cardan, torsion and axial vibrations. It takes on all the impacts, thereby protecting the remaining parts of the car suspension from mechanical damage.
Self-replacement of rear struts of VAZ-2109
Any breakdown in a car requires immediate repair, since in most cases the breakdown leads to a decrease in the level of safety during operation.
In this article we will tell you how to replace the rear struts of a VAZ-2109. You should know that, as a rule, a problem is indicated by a very characteristic noise coming from the rear suspension while driving the car.
If you do not have sufficient knowledge, then it would be better to seek help from an auto repair shop. But it is worth saying that with some effort you can make the replacement yourself.

- You can begin installing new front suspension silent blocks. You need to treat the seat with soapy water and press it into the hole with a screwdriver (if you lubricate the hole with undiluted liquid soap, the resistance will also decrease). When everything is ready, you can start replacing the front suspension silent blocks with new ones.
- After the silent block enters 50%, remove the tube and press everything to the end. There is no need to rush so that the part is not installed crookedly. You can add soap to make the process easier.
- Check the protrusions of the silent block on all sides (should look like in the photo).
- Replace the silent block of the "daisy" lever. The old ones need to be cut down with a chisel, and new ones installed in this place. Using a vice, press them into the mounting hole. Finish with a hammer and a pointer.
- Reassemble everything in reverse order.
- The actions on the other side are similar.
- You need to tighten the nuts when the car is already on the ground.

Useful tips
The brake hose is located on the beam. If the eye is moved, it can be damaged. Pay attention to this point and be careful when working. Most often, damage occurs from contact with the mount. Always look at what it is leaning on.
In most cases, it will not be possible to simply unscrew the fastening nut. In this case, you need to tap it out. Just don’t hit the nut, hit the screw, the vibration will make it much easier to unscrew it. Using a pipe will also make the task easier. It is put on the knob, this way you can increase the lever and, accordingly, the force transmitted to the nut. As a rule, after such exposure, the most rusted connection gives in.
Conclusion
. The suspension of all cars on domestic roads is subjected to serious tests. Therefore, work such as replacing the silent blocks of the rear beam on a VAZ 2109 is not uncommon. In fact, there is nothing complicated here. The main thing is to do everything in a certain order, and there will be no problems during work.
Choice
Before you start replacing the silent blocks of the rear beam, you need to decide what exactly you will replace the old, worn bushings with.
We figured out the markings and realized that for the VAZ 2109 you need to take only those that are suitable in size and diameter for the rear beam of the nine.
Today, for the VAZ 2109 they offer two types of silents, differing in the material of manufacture.
Silent block type
Peculiarities
They are not as durable, but provide greater softness when operating the car's suspension.
A more rigid modification, in which the increased rigidity is the main disadvantage. At the same time, these products are more resistant to temperature changes, do not deform so quickly, and remain operational longer.

How to get to the necessary parts in foreign cars
To begin with, let's take such a popular car as the Ford Focus. This machine has a fully independent multi-link suspension on the driven wheels, which comfortably assists steering. But you have to pay for comfort. If the levers can “retract” more than 150 thousand km. mileage, then much earlier it may be necessary to change the silent blocks of the rear levers of the Ford Focus 2, especially the longitudinal ones. Moreover, as you know, our roads leave much to be desired.
That is, the reasons for the failure of lever parts, together with the indicated main reason, are as follows.
- Bad roads.
- Sloppy driving.
- Natural wear and tear.
Well, to replace silent blocks on a Ford Focus 2 we will need the following tools:
- a set of wrenches and sockets;
- universal spring ties;
- a special glass for squeezing out the silent block.
It is better to start the business from the inspection hole.
- Using a jack, we lift the part of the car that we decided to start with. We compress the spring with ties.
- Having installed the support under the main suspension arm, unscrew the bolt of the spring arm. Next, remove the spring and lower the lever.
- We unscrew the nuts securing the transverse arms - lower and upper, together with the shock absorber.
- Disconnect the handbrake cable, then remove the fastening of the ABS wires, disconnect their plug.
- We press out and replace the silent blocks of all rear control arms. This is where moment X comes! To remove a broken part from the eyelet and install a new one, you need a special glass with a diameter the size of the new part. On the eve of the repair, you should ask any turner to turn such equipment using a new spare part.
- All. Assembly is done in reverse.
The operations are not so much labor-intensive as they require sufficient physical effort. When deciding on a DIY repair, a car enthusiast must weigh the pros and cons.
On a Ford Focus 3 car, replacement is carried out in a similar way. But let’s look at how to do this on another popular foreign car for a variety of complete information.
Also read about replacing the front strut supports and replacing the rear suspension spring on a VAZ 2107. To change the silent blocks of a Volkswagen Passat B3, we will take the following tools:
- set of wrenches;
- hammer, chisel.
Here the suspension is based on a common beam. Let us describe the reinstallation of the part on one side, because on the second it is done in the same way.
- We remove the rear wheels and support the rear of the car so that it remains raised.
- We disconnect the brake hose, as well as the ABS system wire.
- We remove the plastic protection of the fuel filter, as well as the spring of the brake regulator drive.
- We unscrew the beam with 19mm wrenches, carefully lower it down and forward on the brake hoses, and fix it with handy means.
- We knock out the old parts with a hammer and a chisel.
- We press in new spare parts again using a special mandrel, but here you can use a standard bolt coupled with large-diameter washers. Here you need to show a little ingenuity.
- After performing the same actions on the second side, we assemble everything with new spare parts in the reverse order.
As you can see, the task is also not an easy one, but it is still easier to accomplish. However, many car enthusiasts will consider it a more reasonable action to contact a car service center.
STO will help us!
For such car owners, we collected data on the average cost of replacing silent blocks, for example, on a Ford Focus in relation to large cities in Russia. Here is the corresponding table.
City | Cost about one wheel |
Moscow | 2500 rub. |
St. Petersburg | 2000 rub. |
Samara | 1600 rub. |
Ekaterinburg | 2000 rub. |
Of course, in this particular service the price may differ slightly, it depends on the year of manufacture of the car, on the mileage, and on the policy of the workshop. We have provided only average data here. But even they show how expensive this labor-intensive procedure is!
The only hope is that VAZs might make this repair easier and therefore cheaper? Well, let's see.
In conclusion, a few words about VAZs
If we talk about front-wheel drive Ladas, then, looking ahead, things are better with them. Here, as on Ford, there is no need to replace silent blocks, for example, the rear trailing arm, because the suspension of all VAZ models with front wheel drive consists mainly of a beam.
When describing the operation under study for the VAZ 2109, also for the VAZ 2114, including the VAZ 2110, the same instructions are obtained, and we present them below. For these models we take the following:
- set of wrenches;
- hammer, drift;
- M12 bolt with nuts, as well as 2 rings with a diameter of 50 mm plus a cylinder of the same diameter, the total length of the device is 75 mm.
- We lift the entire rear part of the car and place supports.
- We disconnect the brake pressure regulator rod from the beam, as well as the hand brake cable.
- Using 19mm wrenches, unscrew the nuts of the rear beam bolts, then remove it, then hang it up, insert a block between it and the body.
- Using a hammer, we knock out the old parts using a punch.
- We press in the new spare part using a device we assembled ourselves: we press the cylinder onto the new spare part, tightening the bolt - by pressing the head of the bolt along the ring onto the cylinder - while the nut with the second ring is located at the other end of the beam bracket.
- We assemble the structure in reverse.
Thus, it turns out that it is much easier to change the cherished parts of the design of the driven wheel supports on a Lada than to replace, say, a Ford Focus 2 car.
But in any car, when performing this operation, the following advice will be a good help: before installing a new spare part, to facilitate pressing, you should dip it generously in a soapy solution.
Also, do not forget that when carrying out such work, obstacles must first be placed under the front wheels to prevent rollback. In this case, the gear lever engages the first speed.
So, we have looked at the main problems that a car enthusiast may encounter if he decides to do the most common type of rear suspension repair himself. We have also indicated approximate prices for such work, so that those wishing to contact the masters will have a clear picture. The recommendations given should help both.
Installation and dismantling of beams
The VAZ 2109 beam is very convenient to install and dismantle when using a lift
But if your garage is not equipped with such an addition, then carefully lift the “back” of your swallow with a jack. For greater reliability, place special shoes or at least bricks under the wheels and engage the gear
Once the vehicle is raised, the wheels can be unscrewed. Then remove the shock absorbers from the rear suspension. The parking brake cables are disconnected and the “shirts” are removed. The brackets securing the cables to the vehicle body are bent, and the cables themselves are removed from the brackets.
When dismantling the brake hoses located on both sides of the beam, be sure to plug the resulting holes with something. Otherwise, brake fluid will leak.
Unscrew the nut on both sides that serves to secure the beam to the brackets. Carefully knock out the bolts. Now you can pull out the beam. Some useful tips:
Before you begin work on removing the beam, loosen the tension on the nuts on the hub in advance. If you need to replace a rubber-metal hinge, it is better to contact a specialist for this. Without a special tool and skills for such work, something good is unlikely to come of it. If you look at the documentation of the VAZ2109, which is given by the manufacturer, then you need to remove the rear beam from the car along with the brackets. For this manipulation you need to unscrew the 3 nuts holding the structure. But the operating time of the vehicle makes its own adjustments. After a certain period of time, the studs begin to become corroded, and in some cases they may crack. It is because of this that it is more expedient to dismantle the beam by simply disconnecting it from the bracket and leaving it suspended. The rear beam of the VAZ 2109 is fastened in the reverse order of removal. After returning the vehicle to a solid surface, all nuts must be tightened
The tightening procedure should be repeated after 80 km. After installing the beam, it is important to bleed the brake system, adjust the parking brake, and check the wheel alignment.
As you can see, removing and installing the rear beam of a VAZ 2109 is not at all difficult; all car owners can do this work. The main thing is time and desire.
Replacing the silent block of the front suspension arm of VAZ 21083
We will replace the silent block of the front suspension arm of a VAZ 21083 (21093, 21099).
Work to replace the silent block will have to be carried out in case of severe wear. Its signs can be considered a knocking sound from the front suspension when starting from a stop and driving over uneven surfaces, and deterioration in the car’s handling when changing lanes.
Necessary tools, accessories and spare parts
Two spanners on "19"
Cup puller or vice

Bolt knockout mandrel
New front suspension arm silent block for VAZ 21083 (2108-2904040)
Bolt securing the silent block to the bracket with a nut
Preparatory work
We install the car on a pit or overpass
If there is neither one nor the other, you can simply place the car on a flat surface, jack it up on both sides and remove the wheel.
Disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the suspension arm.
It is most convenient to replace the silent block of the front suspension arm with the arm completely removed. But, below we will describe a replacement method directly on the car. It allows work to be completed in an extremely short time (since there are fewer parts to disconnect) without loss of quality.
Silent block of the front suspension arm of the VAZ 21083 (21093, 21099). The front pillar has been removed for clarity.
Replacing the silent block of the front suspension arm of VAZ 21083 (21093, 21099)
Disconnect the front suspension arm from the bracket
The lever silent block is attached to a bracket on the car body. Using two “19” wrenches, unscrew the fastening nut and knock out the bolt through the mandrel with a hammer.
At this stage, problems may arise with removing the bolt from the bushing of the silent block, since most often it sours there. There are several ways to solve the problem: heating, filling with penetrating liquid and cutting off the bolt with a grinder. We use the one that is most appropriate depending on the situation (degree of souring).
Pressing out the old silent block
The silent block can be pressed out of the lever eye using a puller or a vice with pieces of tubes of suitable diameter.
Pressing in a new silent block
For pressing, we again use a puller or a vice. Before pressing, lubricate the silent block with a soap solution.
After replacing the silent block, we install all the parts back. The final tightening of the bolt and nut securing the silent block is carried out while the car is on its wheels.
Notes and additions
The silent block of the front suspension arm of the VAZ 21083 car consists of a rubber bushing into which a steel tube is pressed. The silent block itself is pressed into the lever head. When the lever swings, elastic deformation of the rubber bushing occurs. Rotation of the silent block bushings relative to each other or relative to the lever head or mounting bolt is considered a malfunction.
Beginning of work
If everything is ready for work, you can start replacing.
Important! To avoid injury from the vehicle falling, place the body on reliable metal stands. The order of work will be as follows:
The order of work will be as follows:
- Raise the rear of the car with a car jack, place the body on a stand, remove the wheel;
- After this, you should treat all the fastening bolts to be removed with WD 40 liquid, allow some time for the liquid to interact with the metal;
- Next, use 19mm wrenches to unscrew the nut from the bolt connecting the rear beam to the mounting bracket on the body;
- The regulator in the brake system will interfere with the removal of the beam; it should be disconnected;
- Now nothing interferes with the dismantling of the beam. The fastening bolt is removed, the beam is lowered down and a wooden block is installed between it and the body. Its size is selected in such a way that it becomes possible to replace the silent blocks of the VAZ-2109 rear suspension.
After this, they begin the most labor-intensive process, pressing the rubber-metal hinge out of the seat. They do this in different ways. You can try to knock it out with a hammer or remove it using a device. When this does not help remove the hinge, you can try making a hole in the rubber of the part. This will release the tension and allow you to remove it from the socket.
Replacement
First you need to prepare the car. Wheel chocks are installed under the front wheels. Also, all threaded connections are processed with a liquid wrench; it is better to do this in advance. The work is carried out in the following order:
- The wheel screws are moving out of place. After which, the car is jacked up and placed on supports. The wheel is removed. In principle, you can do without this, but replacing it from under the car is not very convenient;
- If the silent block fasteners were not prepared in advance, then it is necessary to clean it with a brush from dirt, and also treat it with penetrating lubricant; Unscrew the nut 19, which secures the lever to the rear beam;
- Remove the screw from the eye. He will not come out of the hole voluntarily. To begin with, you should move it from its place. To do this, screw a nut onto the end of the thread and knock off the stuck screw with sharp blows. After this procedure, there will be no problems with its removal;
- Using a pry bar, press the beam eyelet down, this will give free access to the silent block. Sometimes, it may be necessary to raise the car even higher. After pressing the part, you need to fix it. This can be done using a mount;
- Next, remove the silent block. To do this, you need to put a puller on the eyelet and squeeze the elastic out of it. If you don’t have a puller at hand, you can try to knock out the silent blocks. To do this, it is necessary to hold the eyelet on the reverse side to avoid its displacement during impacts;
- The hole must be cleaned of dirt and rust. You can lubricate it with engine oil, which will prevent corrosion;
- The new silent block is lubricated with oil and pressed into place. The screw is installed and the nut is carefully tightened.
