The stove (“Chevrolet Aveo”) does not work: causes and solutions
Warmth in the interior of any car is the key to not only a comfortable ride, but also road safety. After all, the temperature in the cabin also affects the driver’s well-being. Therefore, at the first signs that the inside of the stove is not getting warmer during operation, you should immediately begin troubleshooting. When winter comes, you will be reluctant to do anything and look for reasons in a cold car. The same should be done in the summer, because who enjoys driving in the heat with the heater running at full power? The Chevrolet Aveo is very popular among Russian car enthusiasts. A good combination of price and quality, as well as the availability of spare parts and relative ease of maintenance make this model quite famous.
Air jams
Often during operation of the cooling system, due to its leakage, air enters, which has poorer thermal conductivity. Then the stove in the Chevrolet Aveo does not work or begins to work worse. This often happens due to the fact that antifreeze was poured into an empty tank, and air got into the hoses without being forced out. The air lock is quite easy to remove. It is enough to drive the front wheels onto some hill and unscrew the cap of the expansion tank.
Control unit malfunction
The control unit may also malfunction or incorrectly regulate the temperature in the cabin. Its malfunction is one of the reasons why the stove does not work (Chevrolet Aveo is no exception). Faulty controls on the panel may also not function properly. The control unit itself can rarely be repaired and must be replaced. Another reason for the malfunction of the stove is the failure of the air temperature sensor in the cabin or its short circuit. In this case, the stove will always “fry” at full capacity or blow cold air. After all, feedback occurs precisely through this sensor.
Heating radiator diagnostics
A stove radiator leak in a small-scale incident can only be demonstrated by disassembling it. Although, there are also cases when all the antifreeze pours into the cabin, or a puddle forms under the car. If the leak is small, and you suspect it only by the decreasing level of liquid in the tank, you need to remove the panel and inspect the radiator itself.
Removing the front panel of a Chevrolet Aveo
As mentioned above, on a Chevrolet Aveo, the heater radiator is replaced after removing the front panel.
Removing the dashboard is a somewhat labor-intensive task; parts are removed in the following sequence:
- Center console.
- Glovebox.
- Black plastic inserts.
- Cables from the oven dampers.
- Central overlay.
- Glove box.
- Control unit for backlight brightness and headlight range control.
It is better to label the detachable wire blocks to make it easier to put everything in place and connect.
After all the parts have been removed, unscrew the fastening bolts and remove the panel. To do this, you first need to lift it, then pull it towards you.
Guys, everyone on the Aveo T250 1 4 the heater doesn’t heat well, I changed all the filters.
Guys, is everyone's Aveo T250 1.4's heater not heating well? I changed all the filters, everything is fine with the cooling system, I heard that this happens on all Aveos, how did anyone deal with this?

The stove is super, you are responsible for yourself... The car has warmed up, the heat is too bad. (in winter I drive without a down jacket) Change the antifreeze for yourself.

Try to pump it, maybe you have air somewhere or put a nano cardboard. After 20 minutes I can’t breathe with the stove

- sinning January 09, 2021 12:10
lunch1927, I am always responsible for myself, everything is fine with antifreeze, at -15-20 the stove heats up but not very much, I constantly direct it to Lobach.
- stemming4973 January 09, 2021 12:14
sinning, On the Aveo I don’t know, but probably the same as on the 10. Between the radiator and the engine you find 2 thick pipes (when the car progresses they are hot, you can hold on with gloves). You open the antifreeze reservoir and intensively squeeze them for 10-15 minutes, alternately. If there is air was, then you will see bubbles in the open lid. And check the level at the same time. It definitely won’t be superfluous.

sinning, well, you need to watch..Has it always been like this for you?

Installing a new heater core
If removing the stove from a Chevrolet Aveo is not an easy task, then installing a new one is even more difficult. The point is not in the complexity of the equipment or the use of small parts (there are none), but in the ability to connect all the wires correctly. If you make a mistake with the connection location of at least one harness, you can get incidents in the operation of the stove or even a short circuit in the network.
Therefore, it is recommended to carefully and carefully sign/photograph the nature of all connections in order to avoid possible malfunctions immediately after installation. Installation of a new stove is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Before installing the device, you need to clean the landing area from dirt and traces of antifreeze leaks.
Video: detailed instructions for replacing the stove
It is possible to replace the heating radiator on a Chevrolet Aveo yourself, but it is quite difficult without special knowledge in the field of mechanics and electronics. In most cases, in order to save on the services of specialists, the owners themselves dismantle the stove from the interior and ask the service station to simply connect the new device correctly.

The stove does not heat. The air flows past the radiator.
Unscrew the screws that secure the motor to the plastic base. In order to remove the cover, you must carefully unscrew all the screws on it. Disconnect the corrugated pipe, as well as the power plug. Lubricate the rod before installing the part.

I would recommend entrusting such problems, which may concern electronics and interior heating, to specialists from service centers, since this is a very delicate job and the slightest mistake can affect the operation of the entire car. We unscrew the two screws securing the motor. We proceed to the difficult stage - removing the motor from the plastic base. The second reason is sticking of the relay contacts, which give it high speed.
In principle, you can already start repairing the cable, but it’s not very convenient to get to it.
The torpedo on the Aveo on some trim levels, including mine, is attached from the factory to the beam from the inside. As a result, it took a lot of time to completely dismantle and remove the torpedo for the sake of unscrewing one bolt, of which a third was unscrewing the mounting bolt itself.
To remove the torpedo, you need to lift it and pull it towards you. Everything is simple there, as in the photo, we grab the edge and pull it towards ourselves and slightly up. All that remains is to remove the panel itself with the stove adjustments.
Removing the stove for repairs
On cars with high mileage, radiator clogging is almost inevitable. Along with the appearance of leaks in the system, such troubles are fraught with a wide variety of consequences, from the appearance of puddles in the cabin with the characteristic smell of antifreeze to problems in the operation of the heating system. Cleaning the radiator requires complete disassembly of the torpedo, removal of plastic covers and other similar unpleasant activities. This can be avoided by regularly checking the condition of the heater and its individual components. Access to the stove is not difficult, but first you need to dismantle the torpedo.
Disassembling the torpedo
To remove the stove, you need to disassemble the center console of the Chevrolet Aveo. This is done according to the following algorithm:
- remove all attachments from the panel, including the glove compartment, clock, headlight range control, backlight control keys, center console trim, black inserts, disconnect the cables going to the heating system controls;
- when disconnecting wires, connectors and harnesses, it is strongly recommended to sign or photograph the order in which they were placed before disassembly, so as not to confuse anything during the reverse operation - otherwise, troubles may arise that require replacing a solid part of the electrical equipment;
- on some Aveo modifications, the torpedo is additionally attached to the beam - this point should be taken into account so as not to forget to unscrew the corresponding bolt;
- The torpedo is removed by lifting it, after which you need to carefully pull it towards you;
- access to the stove opens, but before removing it it is necessary to snap into place the fasteners holding the electrical wiring on the beam;
- now you need to unscrew the six mounting bolts located on the body sides, and also unscrew the same number of bolts on the steering column;
- remove the beam and begin dismantling the radiator.
Disassembling the stove, replacing the radiator
To remove the heater you will need a Phillips screwdriver, a sufficiently long wrench, a threaded lock, ratchets and 10/12 wrenches. Sequence of work:
- the first thing to do is to unscrew the bolted connection connecting the climate system evaporator with the cabin filter and the stove radiator;
- dismantle two pipes leading to the heater from the engine compartment;
- if the car has an air conditioner, loosen the fastening of the refrigerant supply pipe to the heater housing, having first completely bled the freon from the system (if the work is carried out indoors, it is advisable to leave it for 10 - 15 minutes until all the refrigerant has evaporated from the system, and then ventilate it) ;
- from the side of the hood or from the bottom of the car, unscrew the bolts that secure the heater to the partition of the engine compartment;
- From the passenger compartment we remove the stove assembly and gain access to the heater radiator;
- we dismantle the radiator of the Chevrolet Aveo heating system itself, in this case it becomes possible to visually assess whether there is an antifreeze leak on the stove and where exactly the coolant is leaking;
- it is necessary to carefully inspect the radiator for the presence of mechanical damage of various natures (dents, cracks, deep scratches, chips, places of excessive corrosion);
- dismantle the fan electric motor and clean it;
- We install a new or restored radiator in its original place, and then perform the assembly in the reverse order.
If the stove controls are faulty, you can try replacing them. You can find a lot of materials online that explain how to install heater knobs on an Aveo - in this context we will not do this, since even a person who has never held a wrench in their hands can handle such work. Another thing is repairing the internal elements of the heating system. Here you can’t do without certain skills, perseverance and self-confidence.
Tools required to remove the heater
It is held on by four bolts; for them we need a key and two latches. The photo is not mine, I stole it from the internet. Next we pull off the frame around the gearbox.
Then the plastic from the beard turns into a tunnel. Everything is simple there, as in the photo, we grab the edge and pull it towards ourselves and slightly up. Take out the motor and take it to a convenient place. Before you remove it, be sure to check the air ducts that may contain leaves.
They also emit a characteristic rustling and hum as they interact with the impeller of an electric motor.
For repairs, we remove the heater motor from the car. Remove the impeller. To do this, you need to unscrew the nut on the motor shaft, and use a size 8 wrench. To disassemble the motor, you need to unscrew the impeller nut. Screws are screwed to the plastic base and they need to be unscrewed. To repair, you need to unscrew the screws securing the motor to the plastic base. Pull out the motor and use a screwdriver with lubricant.
Rock the motor until it pops out.
If this does not help, then slightly loosen the screws that are located on the back wall and lightly tap the motor through the gasket. To carry out repairs, we pull the motor out of the housing, disconnect the motor cover and remove the armature. The air lock is quite easy to remove.
It is enough to drive the front wheels onto some hill and unscrew the cap of the expansion tank. After this, start the warmed-up engine and rhythmically compress and unclench the pipes leading to the tank. The antifreeze will gurgle and excess air will escape.
From time to time you need to add antifreeze.
Then tighten the plug and check the operation of the stove. The problem also lies in the leakage of the plug, which should create excessive but not too much pressure.
Often, replacing it can eliminate several faults at once. It becomes clogged with dirt, deposits from the engine block, rust and does not warm up as it should.
Chevrolet Aveo heater motor repair
Check the air ducts for the possible presence of leaves in them, which can also make a rustling sound when coming into contact with the impeller of the electric motor. Pick up the motor and take it home. Disassembling the stove motor may differ depending on the Aveo model, but the essence of the procedure remains the same.
First, remove the impeller; to do this, use a size 8 wrench to unscrew the nut on the motor shaft. Then unscrew the screws securing the motor to the plastic base. The glove box has been removed and the motor is accessible. Then use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the three screws.
Unscrew the three screws. Be sure to support the motor with your other hand so that it does not fall out. Disconnect the corrugated pipe on the left and the plug on the right.

Preparing for work
The walls must also be lubricated with lithol before installing the motor in its place. When repairing the stove motor, it is not recommended to use WD fluid, since rust will appear if the substance gets on the copper contacts.
Air appeared in the cooling system after replacing the antifreeze. If there is air left in the system, then after a while you will see bubbles.
The torpedo on the Aveo on some trim levels, including mine, is attached from the factory to the beam from the inside. As a result, it took a lot of time to completely dismantle and remove the torpedo for the sake of unscrewing one bolt, of which a third was unscrewing the mounting bolt itself.
Chevrolet Aveo flushing the heater radiator, video report.
To remove the torpedo, you need to lift it and pull it towards you. If the motor breaks down, the search for the problem should begin with the fuse responsible for this circuit.
If it is not broken, then the wiring or the electric motor itself is faulty and needs to be replaced or preventatively cleaned. To remove it, you need to remove the glove compartment.
Chevrolet Aveo flushing the heater radiator, video report.
The motor is located at the bottom of the heater housing and is held on by latches. To repair the damper drive, you will need to remove the lower part of the console. Malfunctions of the resistance unit The fan motor operates at several rotation speeds.
A separate resistance block is responsible for this, slowing down the rotation. If it malfunctions, the motor will operate at separate speeds or only at maximum speed, directly, without resistance.
In this case, the most reasonable thing to do would be to replace the resistance unit. The latter can be bought at any grocery store. After dismantling the radiator, we rinse it with plain water. We pour it into the radiator pipes of the stove, then shake it and drain it. The pipes going to the stove should be approximately the same temperature as the pipe going from the thermostat to the cooling radiator. At the same time, you can check whether your radiator has fallen, or whether there is a problem known for Lanos cars.
To do this, move the heater radiator up and down, grasping the radiator pipes, and if there is play, then the radiator has fallen, and if not, everything is in order. For flushing, in addition to the “pit” and various small tools, a screwdriver, a container for draining antifreeze, etc.
The heater in the cabin does not heat well - logbook of the Chevrolet Aveo Sedan of the Year on DRIVE2
The stove does not heat. The air flows past the radiator.
In this case, the engine will never warm up to operating temperature, since the antifreeze immediately goes into the radiator, cooling.
The stove began to heat poorly. I've been noticing lately that even when the engine is warm, the air flow is not...
Air bubbles should come out of the expansion tank under the pressure of the gas pedal. A lack of coolant can cause problems with many devices in the car, including the stove. The first problem can be solved very simply - by simply adding antifreeze to the required level.
If the top one gets warm immediately, it means the thermostat is stuck in the open position. If the car is equipped with non-electronic control of the heating radiator, then the main reason for its malfunction is the shorting or melting of the contacts located on the fan speed switches. Air bubbles should come out of the expansion tank under the Chevrolet Aveo heater and the gas pedal.
Replacing the interior heater yourself
Before starting work you will need a set of tools:
- hex heads for 12 and 10;
- a pair of ratchet heads;
- extension collar;
- Phillips head screwdriver;
- thread lock.
It is advisable to choose a screwdriver with a magnetized tip, which helps to hold hardware without dropping it. Even a simple screwdriver can be turned into such a tool if you connect it to a magnet for half an hour. Step-by-step replacement algorithm:
- Unscrew a couple of mounting bolts in the cabin that hold the stove with the evaporator and the air conditioning filter;
- in the engine compartment we get rid of two pipes leading to the radiator;
- unscrew the four bolts holding the stove to the body;
- we dismantle the housing, behind which the radiator we need is hidden;
- We carry out a visual assessment of its condition, identifying possible places of antifreeze leakage, wear, chips or damage;
- it is advisable to remove the motor and clean its external surface from dirt;
- install a new heater, further screwing in all the screws;
- We carry out complete assembly in the reverse order of disassembly.
If problems arise with the electronics responsible for cabin heating, then you should not repair it yourself. It is advisable to immediately contact car service specialists who have high-quality diagnostic equipment to identify problems.
Main reasons
An air lock formed in the system when new coolant was added. A lack of coolant can cause problems with many devices in the car, including the stove. The first problem can be solved very simply - by simply adding antifreeze to the required level. The reason is a normal overvoltage, which is located in the on-board network of the car or the terminals were removed from the battery while the engine was running.
When the control transistors burn out, a gap or short circuit is formed, which disables the entire system.
In this case, it is impossible to control the speed and the heating radiator will stop turning off. Replacing transistors on the cover of the stove control unit If the thyristors break down, the negative voltage will be constant and the engine rotation will not stop.
They will remain open and the heater fan will not turn off. Replacing control thyristors on a heating radiator The next option is improper operation of the control unit, which causes the thyristors to always be open, respectively, and in this case the heating radiator will not turn off. Improper operation of the Chevrolet Aveo heater control unit leads to breakdown of the entire heating system. The heater whistles. During operation of the heater, an unpleasant hum, creaking, or whistling sound is heard - which means the problem is in the motor.
After five years of car operation, the lubricant in the bearing of the heating radiator motor completely or partially dries out. You can fix such a breakdown as follows: Remove the glove compartment in the cabin, since the heater motor is located behind it.
Preparing for work
Open it and pull it slightly towards you. Behind it there is a ventilation system. In order to get to the motor, you need to dismantle the glove compartment in the car. On the right side there is a plastic box with a motor and an impeller.
Behind the glove compartment you need to find the heater motor and the heating system impeller. Unscrew all the screws. In order to remove the cover, you must carefully unscrew all the screws on it. Disconnect the corrugated pipe, as well as the power plug.
The antifreeze enters the heater radiator, which is blown through by a fan. The heated air is directed into the cabin. The reasons may be the following: Differences appear only in the location of components and assemblies to be checked.
Preparation for work All work to eliminate malfunctions of the stove should be carried out only on the condition that the engine and its auxiliary units related to the cooling system are in good working order. To do this, you need to check the antifreeze level in the expansion tank. It should be no lower than the minimum; the engine itself should start easily and warm up to operating temperature.
Often the last point is where difficulties arise. Thermostat malfunctions This is a device that regulates the thermal conditions of the engine and allows it to maintain its temperature in a narrow range. The stove, like the engine, also works effectively only when the engine is hot. Therefore, if the engine does not warm up, the stove blows cold air.
Chevrolet Aveo Sedan 2006, 72 l. With. - breakdown
Diagnosing a thermostat is quite simple. After starting the engine, you need to feel the thick pipes going from the thermostat to the radiator. They should become hot as they warm up.
If the top one gets warm immediately, it means the thermostat is stuck in the open position. In this case, the engine will never warm up to operating temperature, since the antifreeze immediately goes into the radiator, cooling there. Accordingly, the heat exchanger of the heater will not become hot either.
If the hoses remain cold after warming up, this is bad. The antifreeze does not get into the radiator, and the engine will overheat. In both cases, the thermostat needs to be replaced. Air locks Often during operation of the cooling system, due to its leakage, air enters, which has poorer thermal conductivity. This often happens due to the fact that antifreeze was poured into an empty tank, and air got into the hoses without being forced out.
The stove blows a little warm
Guys, help out, outside minus 25 and below, the cabin has become fresh, although it warms up normally to operating temperature, but slightly warm air is blowing from the stove, when it’s -10 outside, normal warm air is blowing (I won’t say that it’s hot) The engine is insulated blanket and the grille is closed with a cordon)
As I read on other forums, they write that the 1.2 engine cannot really heat itself, in my opinion this is nonsense, before the Aveo I had a Matiz 0.8, it was hot in the cabin, even at -30.
What could be the reasons? Antifreeze is normal, warms up normally. Could it be due to the thermostat?
Help guys, the other day they promise -35, but I can’t cope without a car
Try here they understand more about the T250... here the T300
Messages: 348 Aveo hatch 1.2 LT plus
I have a 1.2 T300 engine, of course, a little different, but it’s hot in the cabin. We need to look for the reason. Where did you get the idea that it warms up normally? How did you measure the temperature? although the T 250 probably has a temperature sensor. If so, then the reason is in the radiator - the heater (aired) or in the damper - it may not be completely transferred to the warm position.
Messages: 3 Aveo 1.2 250 body
I looked at the temperature reading from the sensor on the dashboard and the diagnostic “stray”. The damper closes all the way with a characteristic light pop. I drove onto an overpass (so that the front would be higher), opened the plug and accelerated for about 5 minutes, there was no air
Messages: 362 Was Aveo LTZ Hatchback
on other forums they write that the thermostat and/or temperature sensor on the radiator is often to blame. I don’t know on the Aveo whether there is a sensor on the radiator or not.

1. did you change the interior? 2. Have you changed the engine filter?
Messages: 3,234 Rezzo 1.6 110hp and Matiz 1.2l 88.5hp. 132N.M.
Not often, but a problem occurs in the partition in the radiator of the stove; if it is not made well or has shifted, then the liquid begins to circulate not throughout the radiator, but between the inlet and outlet pipes of the radiator, only washing a small part of the radiator itself. And as an option, the radiator itself is clogged, provided that everything else is working properly.
Messages: 362 Was Aveo LTZ Hatchback
and what consequences can there be after changing the air filters? (interior, engine) in terms of “the heater doesn’t heat well”?
