The gearbox is an important element in any vehicle, along with the engine. Like the power unit, the transmission needs proper operation and care. One of the important stages of gearbox maintenance is changing the lubricant. This material will allow you to find out how to change the oil in a Lanos box, what is required for this and how often you need to perform this task.

When should you change the gearbox oil?
First, let's figure out how often you need to change the oil in the Chevrolet Lanos gearbox. According to the vehicle manufacturer, the transmission of these vehicles does not require changing the lubricant. The service book for the car indicates that it is filled in the vehicle for its entire service life. But, according to many experts, during active use, car owners must change the oil in the Chevrolet Lanos gearbox. Over time, it loses its properties, which is why it cannot provide protection for all rubbing mechanisms and components in the unit. As a result, regular operation of a vehicle with old lubricant will lead to the need to repair the unit.
Replacement kit: oil, gasket, sealant
In practice, it is recommended to change the oil after 60-70 thousand km. If the vehicle is operated under more severe conditions, the period is reduced to 40-50 thousand km. In addition, replacing the lubricant in a Chevrolet Lanos gearbox can be done:
- when it is necessary to switch to a lubricant with a higher viscosity;
- if repair work is being carried out on the transmission unit, the oil needs to be drained and replaced;
- a liquid leak occurred as a result of depressurization, for example, when the pan gasket was damaged.
What will you need?
Before starting the procedure for replacing the lubricant, you should prepare all the necessary tools, as well as buy oil and a new gasket for the pan, which will have to be replaced during the work. To carry out the operation you will need the following materials:
- Standard set of socket and socket wrenches.
- A container for used oil, with a capacity of about two liters.
- A sealant that will be needed when installing a gasket on the neck of the pan to prevent fluid leakage.
- Medical or special construction syringe with an elastic hose.
- Universal products for external cleaning and degreasing of engine compartment parts.
- Clean rags.
When all the tools and materials are available, you can begin to work.
Which oil should you choose?
Since the manufacturer does not regulate the replacement of transmission fluid, the technical documentation does not indicate which specific oil should be poured into the gearbox. Initially, at the factory, the box is filled with lubricant that meets the SAE 80W standard, so experts say that it is better to pour this particular liquid. If you live in the northern region, then you can opt for oil with a viscosity of 75W-90; this option will do its job perfectly in cold weather. But in the summer, when the gearbox operates, uncharacteristic noise may appear. Both synthetic and semi-synthetic oil can be poured into the Chevrolet Lanos transmission. The main thing is not to use mineral.
The author of the video, Sashka Svinkin, will tell you about changing the fluid in the gearbox yourself.

To change the oil you will need the actual oil. In addition, you will need a gasket. Changing the oil in a Chevrolet Lanos manual transmission is not provided for by the regulations, and when replacing you will have to install a new gasket. To replace the gasket you will need auto sealant.
Pan gasket for manual transmission Lanos
A gasket for a manual transmission is needed because changing the oil in a Lanos gearbox is not part of scheduled maintenance, and the old gasket will no longer fit in its old place. You will need a new gasket, and you need to install it ONLY on the auto sealant, otherwise you risk changing the oil again after a couple of thousand kilometers.
Consequences of untimely replacement
If you do not change the oil on time, this is fraught with problems:
- There will be noise in the gearbox. The transmission will begin to hum, this can occur in all gears or in specific ones. This is due to the fact that the lubricant cannot perform its intended functions. Because of this, the bearing devices become unusable, which provokes the formation of a hum that is uncharacteristic for the operation of the unit.
- The transmission will fail. This outcome is the saddest for a car. Gearbox failure is rare, but it can be caused by untimely oil changes.
- There will be difficulties when changing gears. This may occur as a result of loss of lubricant properties.
How to check the level correctly?
Diagnostics of the transmission lubrication level should be performed every 10 thousand km.
Many Lanos car owners are interested in how to look and check the oil level. These vehicles are not equipped with a dipstick to determine fluid volume. Therefore, the test is performed through the inspection hole. It is located directly on the transmission housing, not far from the internal drive joint of the right wheel, which, for greater convenience, can be removed by placing the car on a jack and unscrewing the bolts securing it. You need to remove the hole plug and look straight into it. The lubricant level should be at the edge or slightly lower. But so that you can reach the surface of the liquid with your finger.
Alexander Vlasov provided a video on diagnosing the lubricant level in the gearbox and replacing it.
How to replace grease with your own hands?
You can change the fluid with the help of specialists at a service station or yourself. This process is not easy, but it can be done with your own hands.
Necessary tool
To replace, buy the lubricant itself. In accordance with the information above, oils from different manufacturers and with different compositions can be poured into the Lanos transmission. The only thing to consider when purchasing is the climate in which the vehicle is used. As well as the composition and standard of the liquid to which it corresponds. You will need:
- set of wrenches and sockets;
- a new pan gasket or sealant, since the old one will become unusable;
- container for draining waste;
- construction or medical syringe with a tube;
- clean rags.

Algorithm of actions
Since lubricant replacement is not provided, the manufacturer did not equip the Chevrolet Lanos transmission with a drain hole. Because of this, inconveniences may arise during the process, but thanks to the instructions you can deal with them:
- Start the car's power unit and warm it up. You can drive about ten kilometers to warm up the lubricant.
- Drive the vehicle into a garage with a pit; if you don’t have one, you can use an overpass. It is most convenient to work with a lift, but such equipment is usually only available at service stations. Wait about 15 minutes for the car engine to cool down.
- Climb under the bottom and find the gearbox. Loosen the bolts on the pan, but do not unscrew it completely. Place a basin or bucket under it to collect the waste liquid. If they are unavailable, you can use a cut bottle.
- After loosening the screws, grease will begin to drain from the pan. Wait until it stops draining.
- After this, you need to carefully remove the pan, since a small volume of liquid will remain there, wash it thoroughly, clean it of dirt and gasket residues.
- Use a wrench to unscrew the cover on the transmission inspection hole; in some cars this will require force. It needs to be cleaned and washed. Don't lose the O-ring. If it is worn out or damaged during dismantling, it must be replaced before pouring.
- Install a new gasket. For better fixation, use sealant. Make sure that it is installed securely and tightly, as if there are gaps, fluid will leak from the system. Attach the pan in place, tighten all the bolts.
- Find the breather - the filler plug on the transmission, unscrew it with a wrench. Clean the outside and inside of any remaining grease and dirt. Be careful not to damage the bolt.
- Pour new oil into the transmission through the hole. This stage will be difficult because it is difficult to reach. To add liquid, use a construction or medical syringe with a hose, pouring lubricant into it in advance. You can also use a funnel.
- Carry out the filling process until the lubricant begins to come out of the inspection hole. When this happens, you need to screw the plug back on.
- Reinstall the bolt. Clean the gearbox from residual fluid and adhering dust.
- Start the engine and take a test drive. You need to travel 5-10 km. After this, drive the vehicle back into the garage or onto an overpass and look under the bottom. Check the transmission, pan and all openings for leaks. If the transmission has been cleaned, there should be no traces of fluid in the gearbox. If they are present, the leak must be eliminated. Check the amount of oil in the system. Add it if necessary.
The oil change process is described in more detail in the video (the material was filmed and published by user Alexander Mart).
Flushing
If the oil in the box has already been changed several times, the unit may need to be flushed.
It must be performed when there is dirt and deposits in the mining. To do this, after draining the liquid, special flushing oil is poured into the box. The plugs and pan are tightened, the engine is started, and a test drive is performed. The flush is then drained and new lubricant is added.
How much do you need to fill?
For car owners, the question of how much fluid should be poured into the Chevrolet Lanos gearbox is no less pressing. The quantity and volume of oil to add to the transmission is 2 liters, provided that it drains completely.
Price issue
The cost of manual transmission oil will vary depending on the brand. One liter of standard 75W-90 costs about 400 rubles. A liquid of the same type of a similar volume from Hyundai will cost the consumer 380-450 rubles. The price of 1 liter of lubricant from Lukoil 80W-90 is about 160-200 rubles on average, and a one-liter canister of oil of this standard is 640 rubles. The cost of replacement varies around 1000-2500 rubles.

Oil change for Chevrolet Lanos
The transmission of any car, as well as the engine, requires the use of consumables, viz. oil. But these are all housing replacement intervals that are minimal compared to engine oil changes. Today you will learn how to pour oil into a gearbox on a Lanos, how to check its level in the gearbox and how to replace this material.
Preparing for replacement
Not every car owner has changed the oil on their Lanos. The manufacturer of these vehicles fills the transmission with fluid throughout the life of the vehicle, so in most cases it is simply not necessary. But what is the life of your car? The manufacturer won’t even tell you, since replacement of consumables is not provided for in the design. Chevrolet Lanos .

In any case, replacing the consumed fluid (TM. Transmission oil) is still sometimes worth it. What mileage is required for this? Each driver must decide individually. As a rule, this is done every 100 thousand kilometers. But depending on other factors, the need to change the TM may arise earlier. For example, the fluid has reached its service life or there are almost no consumables in the gearbox.
How to check the TM level?
It is recommended to check the TM level in the block at least once a year or every 10 thousand km.
- To do this, find the inspection hole on the inspection point of your Chevrolet Lanos. The inspection hole itself is located on the block body next to the inner hinge of the right wheel.
- By unscrewing the plug, you will see the fluid level in the gearbox. If there is enough HM in the block, you will immediately see this: the liquid level almost touches the edge of the hole. The level may be slightly below the edge.
- If you do not see fluid in the transmission, this means that the TM level is significantly reduced. You will then need to add grease to the appliance to avoid disrupting operation and replacing the appliance.

What kind of fluid is pouring into your car's checkpoint? Many Lanos owners have raised this problem. If you have an automatic control manual, you can easily find out what oil to put into the device. This is clearly stated in the instructions. But if for some reason you don't have a manual and you don't have this information, we can help you decide on your supplies.
Of course, under no circumstances should you fill in oil from an “iron horse” of unknown production. Also, do not put Chevrolet Lanos fluid into a transmission you are not sure about. Chevrolet recommends that car owners fill out the TM SAE 90W GL-4 mineral checkpoint . This option is most optimal for Lanosov. If the vehicle is driven in a region where most temperatures are cooler for most of the year, it is recommended to use a 75W-90 GL-4 semi-synthetic oil at Checkpoint.

So, if you have prepared everything you need, you can start replacing.
- Enter the garage through the pit or the elevator. Therefore, it will be more convenient to drain the transmission fluid.
- Reach under the car and use the wrench to unscrew the lower transmission cover of your Lanos. Pre-install a waste container and place it under the drain hole.
- Wait about 20-30 minutes until the TM completely leaves the gearbox. Once the fluid is completely clear, wipe the bottom of the transmission with a cloth to remove all traces of used oil.
- Next, wash the transfer tray, namely the part where the gasket is installed. If necessary, degrease the site with acetone. Then take the sealant and lubricate them around the entire perimeter of the pan, exactly where it comes into contact with the body. Install the lower transmission cover, but be sure to install a new gasket. Use sealant to prevent leakage.
- There is a cap next to the internal drive to monitor the transmission fluid level. This needs to be unscrewed. Top of the Transmission Install the fuel filler cap: Carefully remove the plastic tip from the cap. Unscrew the plug.
- Then carefully start filling the TM in the transmission through the filler cap. This will likely make it more convenient to use a regular medication syringe. You can also use a hose that matches the diameter of the hole. One side of it should be inserted into the gearbox, and on the other side there is a funnel through which you will need to fill the supplies. It will be much more convenient. You will need to fill the TM until the consumables begin to flow out of the inspection hole. Then tighten the inspection plug and TM access hole. Just don't confuse the sequence. Also, be sure to clean both covers of dust and dirt, especially if you plug the hole.

It needs to be unscrewed completely. After this, under the hood on the left side of the engine as the car is moving, on top of the gearbox unit you can see the filler plug.
It is protected on top by a plastic cap, which must be carefully removed. Unscrew the filler cap with a 13 key.
Using a syringe, add new oil. It will come in somewhere around 1.7 liters. Lanos is installed on a lift. Place a container under the gearbox.
Do I need to change the oil in a manual transmission? Just something complicated
The bolts securing the gearbox oil pan are not completely unscrewed. If a new gasket is missing, then repair work is carried out carefully.
Otherwise, the old product may be damaged. The bolts holding the oil pan are not completely unscrewed. The transmission oil is drained into a container. Inspection hole for filling oil into the gearbox Note: The plug has a magnet to collect metal wear debris, clean it before installing the plug.
