Multilock on automatic transmission
In an effort to create the most reliable automotive anti-theft systems, developers are going deeper and more complex in their security systems. This is quite normal, because the hijacker does not sleep. But do not forget that in this world everything ingenious is simple. And, by the way, the simpler the device, the more reliable it is, because, in fact, there is nothing to break or fail in it. Multilock on an automatic transmission is an excellent example of such a simple mechanical protective device that can permanently confuse even a seasoned car thief who has already learned to carry high-tech electronic equipment with him, and not hacksaws!
How to choose a multilock yourself?
First, you need to take a closer look at the types of blockers offered on the market.
And there are, in fact, only four of them:
- Arc multiloc. Best suited for DIY installation. And the structure is the simplest. The entire installation process takes place without any tinkering under the hood, since this type of lock only secures the gearshift lever itself. The essence of its work is somewhat reminiscent of a bicycle lock, which only secures the wheel itself. Unfortunately, the reliability of both locks is largely similar. An inexperienced car thief will look at this miracle and move on. But an experienced one can easily remove the gearbox rocker and switch the gearbox manually. And the lever will remain restlessly chained. And they are most often subject to hacking;
- Pin and pinless blocker. They have been described in some detail above. It is only worth noting that they are not very suitable for self-installation.
- Engine compartment blocker. It is rightfully considered the most reliable, because it does not block the gearbox controls, but the transmission itself from the inside. Any manipulations of the thief inside the cabin will leave him with his nose, and picking under the hood (especially with the additional installation of a hood blocker) is clearly not an activity that a thief wants to spend the night doing.
Installing multilocks on automatic transmissions
In our company, qualified specialists install multilocks on automatic transmissions of two types: pin and built-in. The effectiveness of protection in one and in the other case will be equally high. However, using the built-in multilock is more comfortable for the car enthusiast. In fact, a multilock is the simplest device that locks the gear shift lever in a certain position. For automatic transmissions this is the parking position, and for manual transmissions this is the reverse position. Even if a robber manages to bypass all the car's security systems, he simply will not be able to force the car to move forward, which means that all his efforts will be in vain.
Locations for installation of larvae
When choosing a location for installing a lock, they take into account not only the convenience of its placement for the owner, but also the likelihood of detection of the system by criminals.
The most common fastening options are:
- Near the dashboard. Standard systems are built into the console itself.
- On the side of the selector lever. The cylinder will be located under the gear shift knob.
- Under the driver's or passenger's seat, or between the seats.
- Other places. The multilock can be located far from the automatic transmission, but this installation option will require large financial costs. However, previous installation options are checked by hijackers first.
The location of the lock will depend on the type of automatic transmission, vehicle design, and engine type.
Multilock on automatic transmission - ease of use
Both when using the built-in multilock and when installing a pin model, the driver will not encounter any difficulties while operating the car. In the first case, it will be enough for him to insert the key into the lock of the blocker and turn it - he can drive. In the second case, it will be necessary to turn the key and pull out the locking pin, which can be placed in the back seat during the trip or placed in a holder specially installed for it. In our company, you can install a multilock on an automatic transmission not only at a low price, but also with quality guarantees.
For a multilock with an automatic transmission, the price depends primarily on its type, but we can say with complete confidence that this mechanical device is more than affordable for any motorist. Remember, additional safety measures have never harmed anyone, so it is better to prevent the possibility of an unpleasant situation with your car than to later deal with the consequences of your own omissions.
When to choose Multilock
The mul t lock brand offers more than just mechanical lock cylinders on the market. In the price list of this company there are many devices that protect cars from theft: cable hood lock, steering wheel lock, etc. Just go to mul-t-lock.com to study the list in more detail.

Together with the company Construct (Czech Republic), they are producing gearbox locks. The use of such devices does not imply that the owner must install or remove any locking element when activating the security functions. Next we will look at how to install the lock on the steering wheel. This blocker has one removable element.
We install the steering lock yourself
Reliable protection against theft is the steering lock. The blocker consists of detachable parts: a rod with a cylinder, a lining on the shaft.
Steering lock, Multilock brand
The diameter of the lining hole must correspond to the steering shaft (usually 18 mm). Installation of this part is completed in 5 minutes.
The set shown here has the keys and lock cylinder made by mul t lock. It is stupid to use such a cylinder to protect every door - it is expensive and useless. The ignition switch, in turn, is protected by an immobilizer. You will enhance the standard protection by installing a cover on the shaft.
Installation of the steering lock lining
The pad itself, of course, should not interfere with the rotation of the steering wheel when the cylinder with the multi lock cylinder is removed.
It is easy to notice that the halves of the blocker assembly are connected by bolts:

Let's imagine a situation:
- The glass of the door breaks and they end up inside the cabin;
- Taking an L-shaped wrench with a suitable profile, unscrew each bolt;
- The blocker is removed and the vehicle can then be towed.
In fact, the probability of such events is close to zero. The chrome cylinder, when installed, blocks access to the mount. These are the features of multi lock blockers, however, not only them.
Case from practice
To get into the car if you don’t have a key, you usually bend the door frame or slide the glass. Note that car enthusiasts themselves can use this advice.
Hacking a car's standard security
Apparently, having read such advice, the attackers decided to steal a BMW 5 Series sedan, which was equipped with an automatic transmission. The “box” in the car was locked, for which the following device was used: multi lock Construct CTL-77.
It is believed that it is useless to block the automatic transmission handle - if they want to, they will steal it. But traces of a break-in discovered by the car owner indicate the opposite: the gearbox cover was moved upward, and marks from a hacksaw remained on the brackets.
BMW car, attempted theft
It is clear that sawing through a hardened steel rod is not easy. To make it more convincing, here is the following photo.
Gearbox lock Construct CTL-77
As a result of all actions aimed at deactivating the lock, the automatic transmission unit was damaged. The car remained in place, and the mul t lock Construct device, as you can understand, performed its function successfully.
In addition to the devices discussed above, hood locks are offered under the mul t lock brand. The cylinder itself can be located in the cabin, and a cable is pulled to the hood, that is, to the actuator. Such cables are resistant to breaking.
Hood lock kit "Multilok"
The equipment produced under this brand has no analogues in cost - it is the most expensive. Little is known about the existence of devices that are not inferior to mul t lock products in quality. However, readers can fill this gap by leaving relevant data in the comments. Good luck with your choice!
The website mul-t-lock.com contains information not only about car locks, but also about locks mounted on building doors. Lock cylinders without additional equipment are also available for purchase.
Types of locks

IMPORTANT INFORMATION! Installing a Multilock lock on automatic transmissions and gearboxes, on many cars, will be most effective when installing the Multilock mechanical anti-theft complex (Mul-T-Lock), which includes locks on the gearbox, steering shaft and hood, individually designed for Your car. The locks are installed independently of each other, each has its own cylinder, but all are opened and closed with one master key.
History of Multilok.
Multilock - this word comes from the name of the famous Israeli company Mul-T-Lock and has already become a household name. It means the most reliable and effective mechanical locks that are mounted on gearbox drives, on the hood or on the steering shaft. The first Mul-T-Lock gearbox locks appeared on the Russian market in the early nineties. At first they were blockers with a “cushion” that fixed the gear shift lever. Then pin locks appeared, which turned out to be much more effective, especially when installed on an automatic transmission. And since then, any lock at the checkpoint has often been called Multilock.
The modern Mul-T-Lock automatic transmission lock is a specialized mechanical device, individually manufactured for a specific car model. Blockers have become much more effective and convenient to use, because... It became possible to separate the locking and control places. To lock and open, there is no need to insert or remove the locking pin, just insert the key into the keyhole and turn it one hundred and eighty degrees. The patented design of the Multilock gearbox lock provides the necessary level of secrecy. The larva and the system of telescopic pins guarantee protection against drilling and extrusion, and exposure to acids. The Mul-T-Lock interactive anti-tamper cylinder is protected by a patent in the US, Europe and a dozen other countries and will remain in effect throughout the 21st century. Unique keys are produced on special key-cutting machines of the same name. Additional individual protective elements do not allow you to bypass the blocker by removing the cables or disconnecting the drive rods. During installation, to minimize interference in the vehicle structure, standard mounting points are usually used. All fasteners are made only with original shear bolts and nuts. Installation of a Multilock lock on automatic transmissions and gearboxes, on many cars, will be most effective if there is an additional electromechanical or mechanical lock on the hood. In this case, it is possible to make a set with a single key.

Multiloc equipped with an Interactive cylinder
The Interactive cylinder design includes a movable element that corresponds to a pin built into the core. When purchasing a multilock Interactive device, a special card is included in the purchase package. The lock has unique security thanks to the individual production of duplicate keys. A spare key can only be ordered from an authorized center of the Mul-t-lock manufacturer. In this case, you will need a personal card included in the lock kit, which contains an individual code.
Such a key cannot be made using the usual method of cutting a workpiece in a regular repair shop. Unique blanks for Interactive cylinder keys are protected and confirmed by a patent of international importance; they can only be purchased at a specialized center of the manufacturer.
Advantages of multilock bollards with Intractive cylinder:
- increased degree of security;
- guaranteed protection against drilling;
- production of inserts from high-strength steels;
- presence of an interactive element;
- increased resistance to chemical influences;
- inability to make duplicate keys through unauthorized means;
- relatively low cost.
Modern anti-bumping systems do not allow unauthorized opening of systems. If the key is lost, the manufacturer's service departments have the ability to recode the anti-bumping system.
