Surface preparation and gluing procedure

When wrapping a car with film, we adhere to a certain algorithm. The work begins with the dismantling of attachments (headlights, door handles, antennas, locks, moldings, spoilers, plastic linings). The body is cleaned of dirt and dust in 4 stages:

thorough surface cleaning;
removing grease stains and traces of grease using isopropyl alcohol;
cleaning the car with detergent;
repeated cleaning with isopropyl alcohol in places where vinyl is folded (stampings, false panels).

The film is applied in one of two ways: “wet” or “dry”. The gluing method depends on the technical characteristics of the film and the manufacturer's instructions.

Removing vinyl film from car

Applying film coatings to a car body is a popular type of styling, the popularity of which is also explained by the fact that at any time, the film can be easily removed without damaging the paintwork, returning the car to its previous state, or pasting it with another material.

To remove car vinyl you need:

warm up the car in a warm room or in the sun;
heating the surface with a technical hairdryer to 70–80 °C, pry the film from one of the edges and begin to slowly pull it upward at an acute angle, moving towards the center of the coating;
Having reached the middle, repeat the procedure, starting from the other edge;
You need to be especially careful when removing film from plastic parts so as not to overheat them and deform them;
If, after removing the film, traces of the adhesive layer remain on the surface of the paintwork, remove them with a solvent or alcohol.

How to glue film to headlights?

When the material has been purchased, it’s time to start working, following the sequence of work:

First, take the dimensions of the headlights. Cut the desired piece of vinyl according to your measurements, leaving a 2cm allowance on each side.
Clean the entire surface, wipe dry, then remove the backing.
Treat the headlight with soapy water, apply the cut piece and wet it again.
Using a squeegee, smooth the material, expelling water and air.
Heat the edges with a hairdryer and smooth the coating thoroughly.
Use a utility knife to remove any unused pieces.
Treat the edges with alcohol to improve adhesion.
Go over the squeegee again, then make a final cut along the contours of the car's optics.

How to wrap a car with vinyl?

The procedure must be performed by specialists; independent attempts will only lead to damage to the material. Hood wrap

We begin pasting the hood. Pasting with vinyl film begins with a piece of the required piece of material. You should cut in such a way that there is a margin left for gripping the film with your hands. The hood is wiped clean with a previously washed rag. Afterwards, the required piece of vinyl is taken and manually stretched. At this point you will need to spray it with warm air from a hairdryer. A soap solution prepared in advance is sprayed over the hood.

The next step is to place the film on the hood, while the middle is fixed with a squeegee. From this middle, the smoothing of the film begins. A squeegee will again help in this matter. Smoothing occurs upward from the middle, and then downward, also from the center. When smoothing, a hairdryer is used according to the principle of linear sequence. For example, a line of 20 centimeters is heated and then ironed. Ideally, such work should be carried out with an assistant, when a friend heats it, and you stretch the film and smooth it out. At the end of the work, the edges of the film are carefully cut off using a stationery knife. All curls are heated with a hairdryer and smoothed. After a couple of hours, you need to check the edges of the vinyl. If they come off, you need to glue them back.

As you can see, the process is quite intensive and troublesome, but there is nothing impossible in covering the hood with vinyl yourself. An important factor is the presence of an assistant in such a matter and self-confidence. We wish you good luck in your work.
