Hyundai Accent is a B-class car produced since 1995. It is the most popular Hyundai model, known under various designations, including Verna and Solaris. Body types – sedan and hatchback. Starting from the 4th generation, introduced in 2010, the car is sold in Russia under the name Hyundai Solaris. Accent's closest competitors are Volkswagen Polo, Kia Rio, Renault Logan and Peugeot 206.

Hyundai Accent engine oil change period

The car manufacturer Hyundai Accent recommends changing the engine oil once a year or every 10 thousand km - depending on how quickly the lubricant becomes unusable, which in a damaged state can cause more harm to the car than good. For example, under severe loads (aggressive driving, sudden starts and braking in traffic jams, transportation of heavy loads), the engine overheats and the efficiency of the engine oil decreases, which, in the presence of wear products and a burning smell, is not able to effectively lubricate and cool the internal combustion engine parts.

Changing the lubricant yourself

You can replace consumables yourself, without involving specialists.

Tools and materials

What you will need to complete the task:

  • fresh motor fluid;
  • filter device;
  • drain plug with o-ring;
  • wrenches 17 and 19;
  • special tool for removing the oil filter;
  • set of star keys.

You can learn more about replacing consumables and filter devices from the video made by user Andrey Florida.

Stages of work

Changing the working fluid in the Hyundai Accent power unit is done as follows:

  1. Warm up the car engine. When the power unit reaches operating temperature, the viscosity characteristics of the lubricant decrease. The consumable material becomes more liquid, which allows you to drain it from the engine without any problems.
  2. Drive the Hyundai Accent into a garage with a pit or onto an overpass. Stop the engine and give it about 15 minutes to cool down.
  3. Reach under the car and locate the drain plug. Waste liquid will come out of it. Place a container under the plug into which the waste will be drained. This could be an old bucket, basin or cut-off bottle. If the car is equipped with a sump guard, it must be removed; to do this, unscrew all the bolts that secure it.
  4. Unscrew the drain plug and wait until all consumables have left the system.
  5. Assess the condition of the drained consumable fluid. If there is serious contamination and deposits, as well as wear products, it is recommended to flush the power unit. For cleaning you will need a special product. This oil can be purchased at any auto store. Tighten the drain plug and pour flushing agent through the filler neck, then start the engine and let it run. The time that the engine should run is indicated on the oil label. Drain the flushing agent from the lubrication system after cleaning.
  6. Install a new plug into the drain hole with a rubber seal.
  7. Before adding new fluid to the lubrication system, the filter device must be changed. The Hyundai Accent can use two types of parts - replaceable and non-sectional steel. Replacement filters are removed by unscrewing the screw located on the device body. When removing, it is recommended to visually inspect the replacement components. As for non-separable filters, they are unscrewed counterclockwise using a wrench. Remove the old part by unscrewing it counterclockwise. If problems arise during dismantling, use a special puller for removal. This device is sold in any store. If you don't have a tool, you can use a piece of a bicycle chain and wrap it around the filter housing. Alternatively, pierce the device with a screwdriver in a place closer to the bottom, away from the threads, so as not to damage the engine components. The tool will be used as a lever. Before installing a new filter, pour about 100-1500 grams of fresh oil into it and lubricate the rubber band near the threads. Install the filter device, but do not overtighten it.
  8. Unscrew the filler plug and pour fresh lubricant into the system. It is convenient to use a funnel to add liquid to the power unit. Fill in the required volume of consumables, regularly monitoring the fluid level in the lubrication system using a dipstick. After filling, start the car engine for a few minutes and let it idle. Stop the engine and check the lubricant level again. Add oil if necessary. Reinstall the engine oil pan protection.

How much oil to fill in a Hyundai Accent engine

First generation X3, 1994-1999

The first generation Accent had two body styles - a 4-door sedan and a three-door hatchback. The car replaced the Excel model, and this designation was retained for the Netherlands and Australia. In France, the car was sold under the name Hyundai Pony. Engines – petrol 1.3 and 1.5 (60-99 hp). The 1995 Accent was Hyundai's first in-house production vehicle.

It had a fairly modern, streamlined shape and a stylish front end with narrow headlights. Thanks to its low cost, the model quickly took its place in the market, including in Russia, where it was presented from the very beginning of sales. The interior of the car is designed in rounded shapes, relevant for that time. The most expensive versions of the first generation Accent were equipped with air conditioning, electric windows, airbags and even an automatic transmission.

All about engine oil for Hyundai Accent

Changing engine oil is an indispensable component of any maintenance. When leaving the car at the station, the driver completely relies on the professionalism of the service workers, including in the matter of choosing a lubricant, but sooner or later the driver himself will have to face this choice. Let's consider the manufacturer's recommendations on what oil to pour into the Hyundai Accent engine.

Each product in this category has a coding corresponding to certain operating characteristics, for example, 5w-20. To find out which lubricant is suitable for your Hyundai Accent, you need to know the meaning of this encoding.

The number preceding W characterizes parameters such as crankability and pumpability during operation at low temperatures. The value of the indicator is directly proportional to the minimum engine starting temperature; a lower indicator means a lower possible engine starting temperature.

Macro photo of oily liquid in water

The number following W is an indicator characterizing the minimum and maximum viscosity of the substance at normal engine operating temperature of 100 degrees and the minimum viscosity at 150 degrees, which is the maximum permissible engine operating temperature. When the engine operates at the maximum permissible temperature, a low viscosity of the motor oil contributes to greater fuel economy and increases engine power, however, a low-viscosity lubricant covers the surface with a thin layer, which increases the risk of engine damage.

As a rule, manufacturers indicate which engine oil is recommended to be poured into the engine of a particular car. You can adjust this recommendation by taking into account the viscosity at minimum air temperature.

Thus, for the harsh Russian climate, the optimal value will be 0W, 5W, 10W. A feature of the Hyundai Accent engine allows the use of high viscosity oil, therefore, 5w-40 is optimal for this car.

Manufacturers recommend the following brands of lubricants:

Liqui Moly 5W-40 Aral 5W-40 Mannol 5W-40

How much to fill

An equally important indicator is the volume of lubricant poured. A lack of it can lead to engine damage, and an overflow can lead to squeezing out oil seals and seals. Also, excess volume increases the level of combustion of product additives in the cylinder; unburned components can reduce the efficiency of the catalyst and particulate filter by settling on their surfaces.

As a result, this will affect their service life. Before filling, it is better to consult with a specialist at the auto shop. You can also find out how much oil is needed for replacement in the car’s service book. The average figures are as follows: when changing lubricant on a Hyundai Accent, about 4.2-4.3 liters are required, i.e. A four-liter canister is enough, because... It is impossible to drain the waste product 100%.

Replacement steps

Hyundai Accent engine lubricant is replaced in the range of 10-15 thousand kilometers or every six months. For a resident of a metropolis, the optimal period would be 8-10 thousand km.

How to drain correctly

  1. Before replacing, it is better to warm up the engine by driving the car or idling.
  2. Drive the car into a pit or lift it on a lift, turn off the engine.
  3. Remove the lubricant filler plug.
  4. Place a container for waste product under the drain hole.
  5. If present, remove the pan protection and unscrew the drain plug. Removing the plug for draining waste fluid
  6. After draining the old oil, look at its condition to see if there are any metal shavings in it. Container with waste liquid
  7. After emptying the tank, screw in a new drain plug.
  8. Replace the oil filter. Removing the oil filter

How to fill

The oil must be poured carefully, avoiding spillage. To do this, it is better to use a watering can; if you don’t have one, use the top of a regular plastic bottle.

Correctly pouring lubricant into the engine through a bottle

You need to fill the lubricant in several passes: after you have filled the required volume, start the engine for 5-7 minutes. Then turn off the engine again and check the level. If necessary, carefully add the required volume.

What oil to use for the Hyundai Accent engine

Original

For gasoline engines of a Hyundai Accent, the branded oil Hyundai Premium Gasoline 5W-20 or Hyundai Turbo SYN Gasoline 5W-30 is recommended. As for viscosity, it is determined by the SAE parameter and is selected based on temperature conditions. So, in the winter season, a viscosity of 0W-40, 0W-30 or 5W-30 is suitable, and mainly in hot weather it is recommended to fill in “summer” oil 20W-40 or 25W-50. If the car is driven all year round, then you can opt for all-season oil with parameters 10W-40, 10W-30 or 5W-40.

Unoriginal

Owners of old and used Hyundai Accent cars of previous generations prefer relatively inexpensive motor oil that matches the parameters of the original product. Based on this, you should pay attention not only to proven brands with a good reputation (Kixx, Shell, Mannol, Valvoline, Motul, Liqui Moly, etc.), but also to important characteristics, such as API approval. This parameter is selected based on the type of internal combustion engine and the year of manufacture of the vehicle. Below are the optimal tolerances for the Accent based on these criteria.

  1. First generation (X3): for gasoline cars produced in 1994. All-season mineral lubricant 10W-30 with API-SG approval is suitable, and for cars manufactured in 1999. API-SH semi-synthetic oil is recommended. For diesel modifications - API-CE and API-CF/CF-4, respectively.
  2. Second generation (LC): for gasoline models produced in 1999. All-season semi-synthetic 10W-30 with API-SH approval is recommended, and for cars manufactured in 2006. semi-synthetic API-SJ is suitable. For diesel engines - API-CF and API-CH-4, respectively.
  3. Third generation (MC): for petrol modifications 2006. – all-season semi-synthetic oil SAE 15W-40 with API-SJ or API-SL approval – for newer cars manufactured in 2010. For diesel engines - API-CH-4 and API-CI-4, respectively.
  4. Fourth generation (RB): for petrol versions 2011. – all-season oil on a semi-synthetic basis, with a viscosity of SAE 5W-40 and API-SM approval. For cars 2014. API-SM will do. For diesel engines - only API-CJ-4 for 2011 and 2014. respectively.

Types of motor oils

Motor oil for the Hyundai Accent, as for any other car, comes in three types, but for the car in question, only one of them is the best type.

  • Synthetic oil is the best option for Hyundai Accent. Suitable for modern foreign cars, which include the Hyundai Accent. In addition, this oil is very resistant to low temperatures, and has good extreme pressure and non-stick properties, effectively protects the engine from overheating, and thereby ensures uninterrupted cooling of internal combustion engine components. Due to its fluidity, synthetic oil is recommended for all weather conditions, including harsh Siberia.
  • Mineral oil is the most economical option, which in the case of the Hyundai Accent should be filled only in extreme cases - for example, when there is a lack of funds for a better product, or with high mileage. Among the contraindications, it is worth noting the fact that “mineral water” should not be poured in severe frost, including at extremely low temperatures. Otherwise, the oil will harden and there will be problems starting the engine.
  • Semi-synthetic oil is an alternative option that is a worthy alternative to cheap mineral oil. It can be recommended for older Hyundai Accent models, including cars with low mileage. In terms of the range of useful properties, semi-synthetics clearly outperform mineral water, and at the same time cost almost the same. And yet, semi-synthetic oil cannot replace pure synthetics.

We can conclude that the best option for the Hyundai Accent would be synthetic oil. The second and third places in terms of relevance are occupied by semi-synthetics and mineral water, respectively.

What kind of lubricant to use in Hyundai Accent

spends a lot of effort on developing and improving highly economical and environmentally friendly engines. In parallel with this, companies developing various liquids are improving lubricating consumables. Thus, Total strives to create lubricants that can be changed after a significant period of time.
