The design is reliable and time-tested, universal, maintainable and practical. But many people want to have a classic car with finer settings or more tightly adapted to a certain driving style. Structurally, 2107 allows you to change some characteristics, the main thing is not to touch the geometry so as not to lose controllability. Then you can make a more durable sports suspension design or a softer and more comfortable one.

Types of pendants

Since the creation of the first car, the suspension has undergone major changes, becoming a complex system of elements that ensures a smooth ride. Several different types of chassis are now actively used.

McPherson - the development belongs to the automobile designer McPherson. Used for over 50 years. Due to their availability, they are used by various car manufacturers. The perfection of this type is questionable, but due to its simplicity and accessibility, the chassis is very popular.

The rear dependent suspension is a well-known option in our country; springs and trailing arms were used. Advantages - excellent handling, disadvantage - large weight of the rear beam. A variant of this type of suspension is semi-independent rear.

It is worth mentioning suspension with swing axle shafts, on trailing arms, with longitudinal and transverse arms (including double ones), adaptive and so on.

The methods for modifying each of the above types are different and depend on the design.

“Trade in” or changing the car “key to key”

On the company’s Russian website, it is written delicately: “roots and technologies go to the land of the rising sun.” However, in their reviews, car owners call Pro-Sport headlights not so sophisticated, but simply “Catayan junk.” The reason why this product is nevertheless in demand is simple - it is “beautiful”, a car with Pro-Sport headlights already belongs to the category of tuned ones, and this is easily noticeable to everyone around.

However, don’t even expect to improve the light quality of standard headlights. Due to low-quality plastic, the headlights not only shine worse than standard ones, but also wear out much faster - they dim when used with halogen lamps.

One of the possible problems with the operation of Pro Sport headlights is the melting of the mounting points of the side lights.

If you nevertheless “bought” the beauty or “angel eyes” of Pro-Sport, be prepared for the fact that you will not pass inspection with such headlights.

Components and malfunctions of the suspension

The front suspension design of the VAZ 2110 is quite complex. Its main element is the stand. It is this that ensures a comfortable ride on domestic off-road conditions. Thanks to a rotary cam mechanism consisting of a bolt and an eccentric washer, the camber of the wheels is adjusted. Also installed on the rack:

  • special spring;
  • a polyurethane buffer that limits the compression process;
  • upper support attached with nuts;
  • a bearing designed to rotate the stand together with the wheel;
  • shock absorber, where there is a plunger, as well as another spring.

Tuning a VAZ suspension includes modifying or replacing all these parts, after which the mechanism will work much more efficiently.

A ball joint connects the front suspension arm of the VAZ 2110 to the steering knuckle. The extensions located along the bottom, the lower arms and the supports on the cross member are connected using rubber-metal hinges and bolts. Special gaskets (washers) regulate the longitudinal inclination of the rotary axis. The wheel hub is mounted with a radial contact non-adjustable bearing. An important role is played by the cross member, that is, the rod connecting the lower arms. In the center it is attached to the car body through rubber pads.

Its main advantage is the ability to cool well;
  • two-pipe - following from the name, it has two cylinders placed one inside the other. One is located inside, it contains a piston and oil, they are connected to the suspension arm. The outer cylinder is filled with air and acts as a compensation reservoir. Its advantage is its affordable price, works well under normal conditions and is small in size;
  • combined - they include all the advantages of single-pipe and double-pipe shock absorbers. But they are more like two-pipe ones, only instead of air, they are filled with gas;
  • adjustable - they are needed to select the operating mode: comfort, sport and intermediate between them;

But with such tuning, you need to understand that vehicles will not be so comfortable. Since the car will be rigid and the ground clearance will decrease.

Another option is a complete replacement with a hydropneumatic one. But this option can hit your wallet.

Suspension tuning

The front suspension is often upgraded because the factory assembly is usually not perfect. Even the rear suspension of the VAZ 2110 can be modified in order to increase the vehicle's stability on the road and improve shock-absorbing qualities. First of all, new springs and shock absorbers are installed on the tuning car.

The choice of springs determines how high the car will be from the road surface. For lovers of low landings, short springs are more suitable, and for those who want to be as high as possible above the track, longer springs are more suitable. Their elasticity also matters. Stiffer springs have a long service life, while softer ones can break quickly. Instead of rubber parts, the VAZ 2110 is equipped with polyurethane ones, which significantly extends the service life of structural elements and improves the vehicle's handling.

Tuning of VAZ 2110—2112 cars

This group of machines can be improved according to the same scheme as described above. Or go the other way - install a more functional suspension with your own hands, for example, from Priora.

This suspension is much stiffer, the steering wheel responds better to the driver, and it feels composed and clear. All the advantages are especially noticeable when passing through holes and depressions while the car is moving. The front end becomes a couple of centimeters higher.

Some, however, on the contrary, put the suspension from the VAZ 2110 on the Priora: for different car enthusiasts there are different preferences. It is impossible to come up with any statement that everyone will agree with 100%.

Improved rear suspension

In order to make the back of the “seven” more rigid and resilient in terms of the weight load placed on it, they usually change:

  • springs;
  • shock absorbers;
  • silent blocks;
  • rubber bumpers.

A classic of the genre is the replacement of original springs with those designed for the VAZ Niva or VAZ 2102(04). These springs are perfect for the existing circuit here, but they are much more powerful and stiffer. However, if the springs from the Niva are identical to the springs of the VAZ 2107, then the springs from the VAZ 2102(02) lift the rear of the body, which is undesirable with rear-wheel drive. Therefore, in order to reduce the ground clearance, you have to cut one or two turns with your own hands. It is also possible to install springs from some imported cars. However, only a few people do this, since such spare parts are much more expensive than their domestic counterparts, if you buy new ones. It is not recommended to install used springs, since no one knows what their service life is.

When changing springs, you need to take care of installing appropriate shock absorbers that would suit the characteristics. Here you need to proceed from financial capabilities, since there are plenty of suitable shock absorbers on the market, but their quality directly depends on the cost. Considering that this is a “seven”, it is better to choose the “golden mean” in terms of quality and price.

When installing shock absorbers, silent blocks should also be replaced with polyurethane ones. In conditions of stiffer springs and shock absorbers, original silent blocks will not last long. And when these parts wear out, the car's handling decreases sharply. In addition, it is worth replacing with new rubber bumpers, which soften body impacts at races.

Suspension kinematics

Poor suspension kinematics affect handling. Rigidity increases, stroke decreases. Improvement of kinematics is achieved by modernizing the springs - installing short and stiff ones, selecting shock absorbers. Improved vehicle handling is achieved by reducing ground clearance. In this case, not only springs are subject to tuning. Repair of the rear suspension is carried out by replacing the standard brace, replacing the silent blocks with polyurethane or steel hinges. The modernization is completed by setting new wheel alignment angles.

Disassembling and replacing the front suspension: instructions

  1. The VAZ 2114 is installed on a viewing hole or raised on a lift. The car must be set to the parking brake. It is necessary to remove the wheel caps, loosen the mounting bolts and unscrew the hub nut. Having secured the front of the car, you can remove the front wheels.
  2. Next, you need to remove the ball joint pin, which is located in the swing arm of the front strut. The next step is to remove the front stabilizer link (number “24”) from the front suspension arm (number “22”). Next, the stretch marks from the body (30) are removed. Next, you need to completely disconnect the ball joint that is attached to the steering knuckle.
  3. Now you can remove the front suspension arm. To do this, you need to disconnect it from the body bracket (28). Afterwards the lever is removed along with the bracket and the extension (29, 30). It is also necessary to remove the bolts that secure the pads to the steering knuckle.
  4. In front of the driver there will be a caliper assembly. To avoid problems with it, you do not need to completely remove it; you need to hang the caliper on a hook in such a way that there is no load on the main hose. The next step is to press the spline shank out of the front wheel hub.
  5. From the side of the engine compartment, you need to remove the protective fist (“41”). To do this, unscrew the telescopic strut nuts and then remove the solid front suspension strut. It should be together with the wheel hub and steering knuckle. The other front suspension strut is removed in the same way. Next, the racks are removed from the rod.

When removing the bolts that secure the ball joint to the steering knuckle, you must use a socket wrench. Otherwise, the protective cover of the hinge may be seriously damaged, resulting in additional costs.

In the case of the front suspension, its assembly proceeds in the reverse order, with the exception of a few features. When installing the mounting bracket to the VAZ 2114 body, you need to make sure that the threads of the bushings are not damaged. To do this, you must perform operations carefully. Also, longitudinal displacement of the cushions on the bar must not be allowed. This can happen during installation of the anti-roll bar.

CONSUMER ANALYSIS

The automotive community is divided approximately in half - some consider these lights to be the height of design thought, while others do not like them. The main argument of the latter is that the lamps are too round in shape, which does not fit the angular body of the VAZ 2109; in addition, with such lamps at the rear, the car becomes similar to the IZH Oda.

As for the technical data, there is nothing to complain about - the lights shine so brightly that some even think about tinting them. The brake lights are not blinding. But the dimensions are too weak compared to the turn signals and brake lights. It’s not surprising, because Osram flashlights have a 5-watt lamp size. The brightness of the reverse signal is high.

However, the choice of location for the direction indicators of the Osram headlights is alarming - why move them to the center so that they are not seen by cars and pedestrians from the sides?

Rear beam stabilizer bar

The element's purpose is to reduce the lateral roll of the car, improve the interaction of the wheels with the road surface when cornering, as well as distribute the load between the rear shock absorbers when one of the wheels drives over uneven surfaces.

The fact is that when you hit deep potholes, extremely strong suspension occurs, often causing the rear shock absorber strut rod to be pulled out.

When working in compression, the shock absorber, on the contrary, is overly susceptible to breakdown, which seriously affects its durability.

This does not happen with amplification. The resulting force is distributed between both wheels with an approximate ratio of 3 to 2, which has a positive effect on the quality of control and the reliability of the suspension elements.

The stabilization bar is installed directly on the rear beam of front-wheel drive models of domestic VAZ and other cars.
