The main purpose of car deflectors (also known as windshields or reflectors or cut-offs) is to protect the interior and other parts of the car from dirt, rainwater, as well as protection from oncoming gusty winds. Most often, these devices are made of acrylic glass (characterized by a long service life) or high-quality plastic, which is resistant to low temperatures and direct exposure to ultraviolet radiation. These elements can have different colors, be tinted/transparent, and vary in design shape. In addition, wind deflectors can be made for installation on a specific car model. In general, they play a dual role - they improve the aesthetic appearance and protect the car from negative environmental influences.
How to choose a deflector for a car? What do you need to know before buying a deflector?
The deflector or “wind deflector”, like most car accessories, is of Western origin. The word deflector comes from Lat. deflecto - deflect, cut off, which completely explains the whole essence of this product.
Thanks to its configuration, the windshield is able to change the direction of air flow, thereby providing a certain comfort while the car is moving. As a rule, the deflector is installed after purchasing the car; in rare cases, the manufacturer installs wind deflectors on the assembly line.
Types of deflectors
There are several types of windshields - these are:
- Glass deflectors;
- Hood deflectors (fly swatters).
I will tell you in more detail about what role both of them play a little later.
What are deflectors used for?
As I already said, the main task is to change and deflect the air flow so that it does not interfere with the driver or, on the contrary, works for the benefit of the car. I will briefly list the main capabilities of windshields.
Protection from dirt and moisture
Some cars have rather poorly thought out aerodynamics; as a result, the car or some of its parts become very dirty in rainy or snowy weather. The task of the veterinarians is to correct this situation. For example, a hood deflector allows you to change the air flow so that all the dirt from under the wheels of the car in front flies just above the windshield of the car, thereby making your ride more comfortable and safe. In addition, it saves washer and wiper fluid on your car.
Side window deflectors also promote proper "swirling" so that dirt and moisture don't fly as much onto the side windows. In addition, the side deflector prevents drops from flowing from the car roof onto the glass. The side window visors were also appreciated by those who like to smoke in the car. While driving, the oncoming air flow makes this activity unpleasant. The wind constantly knocks down the ash, which flies into the car, and there are also frequent cases when the red-hot heat of a cigarette butt, instead of flying out the window, returns to the cabin, thereby creating big troubles.
Anti-fog
Among the many advantages, one can highlight good prevention of fogging of the side windows. Thus, the side deflector, forming the correct air flow, helps prevent fogging of the car windows.
Comfort while driving
Those who like to drive with the windows slightly open will also appreciate car window deflectors, as they create an even and soft barrier between the open window and the passenger compartment. The air does not hit your face and does not inflate everything in the cabin. In bad weather, deflectors prevent moisture from entering the cabin, you simply enjoy the fresh air.
Appearance
In addition to all the above advantages and disadvantages, deflectors are also a good way to stand out and make the appearance of your car more attractive. With the right approach, windshields emphasize the individuality and sophistication of a car's appearance.
Separately, I would like to highlight the hood deflectors, which are often installed individually, that is, without side visors. Deflectors of this type are also called “fly swatters”, because in the spring and summer, when there are a lot of insects, this device is a great help. By changing the direction of the oncoming air flow, it prevents the windshield from getting dirty. In addition to insects, small stones and sand fly into the car’s face, damaging the windshield and hood, so the benefits of a hood deflector can hardly be overestimated.
Before you buy a deflector, you should understand a few more things. First of all, you should clarify the method of attaching the deflector, as well as what material it is made of. Below we will talk about all this in more detail.
Based on the type of fastening, deflectors are divided into plug-in, adhesive, and those that are mounted on special brackets. As is already clear from the name, the first are inserted, the second are secured with glue, and the third are installed using special fasteners.
The first mounting option, as a rule, is typical for deflectors on car windows; it is good because it requires a minimum of effort and money. Installation is quick and easy; just insert the windshield correctly into the place where it is attached, after which it will lock into place. The disadvantages of this mounting option are that after some time the deflector may begin to dangle, creak, and even damage the glass or door seal.
The second type of fastening is more popular and occurs much more often. It involves attaching the deflectors with glue, the latter using high-quality double-sided tape, usually a product from 3M. The installation principle is simple and clear, we make markings, figure out how everything will look and fasten it. Next, we degrease the installation site and the wind deflector itself, after which we glue the tape onto the deflector and, with one precise movement, glue it to the place of further service.
Video on how to install deflectors on car windows
The third type of deflector mounting is usually found on “fly swatters”. The principle is to install special brackets that are attached to the back of the hood and do not come into contact with the outside of the paintwork. Afterwards, the product itself is attached to the prepared brackets. This type of fastening requires certain skills and abilities; incorrect installation of the hood deflector can lead to the fact that while driving it will play or not cope with its task. In addition, if the deflector is not fastened correctly, it can damage the paintwork of the hood lid, resulting in a big problem instead of benefit.
The material from which the deflectors are made
Due to the purpose of the windshields, their design must be lightweight and at the same time durable. Therefore, polymer compounds, plastic and even carbon are most often used as materials. Polycarbonate windshields are the most common, most often they are transparent. Their cost and strength do not raise any questions, which is why they are very popular.
Review of brands of deflectors for car windows and hood
Overview of window and hood deflector brands
In this article we will try to understand the variety of brands of deflectors for car windows and hoods.
Types and purpose of automobile deflectors
First, let's look at the purpose of deflectors and their types. We know several types:
- deflectors for windows (they are also called visors)
— deflector for the hood (other names: bumper, fly swatter)
— fairing for the rear trunk door
— deflectors on the hatch
— and there are even deflectors for roof racks
Part of the functions is aerodynamic protection and noise absorption from oncoming air flow. This especially applies to the roof rack deflector.
But windbreakers on the windows provide good protection from rain and snow. They allow you to drive with the windows slightly open in heavy rain, preventing moisture from entering the car interior and helping to get rid of window fogging.
Also, window deflectors will protect you from the splashes of passing traffic, reduce noise from oncoming air flow at speed with the windows slightly open, and even protect you from the blinding side rays of the sun. Many car owners do not think about this function of deflectors, but this is true. Dark and transparent plastic provides good protection from the sun.
The protective functions of the hood deflector are to create an upward flow of air in front of the car, as well as direct physical protection. This protects the paintwork of the hood and windshield of your car from oncoming stones and insects. This is especially useful on the highway when driving in high-speed traffic.
Further in this article we will consider only deflectors on the windows and on the hood. These are the categories you can buy in our car accessories store.
Main brands of deflectors for windows and hood
Let's name the main brands of car deflector manufacturers:
SIM, Vinguru, Skyline, Artway, EGR, Cobra tuning, Vip tuning, Autoclover.
The deflector market is quite dynamic. Almost every year some manufacturer of these protective products appears or leaves.
But there are brands that are firmly established in the domestic car accessories market and have earned themselves a certain reputation.
For example, the Korean manufacturer of window deflectors Autoclover.
Very interesting products and brand. The product range covers almost all models of Korean cars, including quite old ones. Autoclover also makes deflectors for Chevrolet cars.
The form is as original as possible. Let's say more - Autoclover officially supplies its products as the original supplier of the Korean automobile industry.
The design can be called oriental - many facets, a rather aggressive look. Some models are thin in the style of a car body. For vehicles with chrome window surrounds, Autoclover offers deflectors with a chrome strip, which allows you to not disturb the design of the car.
There are even options with deflectors for the rear window, which, by the way, we have not seen from any other manufacturer.
Reliable original 3m adhesive tape is used for fastening.
And with all these advantages, prices for Autoclover deflectors are among the most affordable on the market!
The only controversial point in our opinion is the rather dark plastic, which from the outside does not seem transparent at all. Although, of course, from the light of the cabin it becomes clear that a certain visibility is still present. But I would like the plastic to be more transparent.
Another New Zealand EGR brand that deserves special attention.
EGR has been producing world-famous window and hood deflectors for quite some time and is considered one of the most respectable brands. The product range covers all major foreign cars. EGR products are also officially supplied to dealers for new cars.
In fact, EGR patterns are considered the standard and many other manufacturers take them as the basis for their products.
Distinctive features of EGR are high-quality plastic with good transparency and without traces of scratches, deep color and gloss.
The world-famous 3m adhesive tape is also used as fastening.
As for the price, of course, EGR brand window deflectors and hood bumpers are among the most expensive. And taking into account the increase in exchange rates at the time of writing this article in 2021, the price generally seems prohibitive for many car enthusiasts in our country.
Now let's talk about the domestic brand SIM (Barnaul).
SIM deflectors, in our opinion, are now the best products from our manufacturers.
In fact, as we managed to make sure, this is a copy of the EGR and is shaped like a pattern. SIM also has excellent transparency indicators with fairly strong transmission dimming. The material itself has no scratches, and the gloss is clean and deep, like a mirror.
Reliable original 3m adhesive tape is used as fastening.
Prices for products correspond to the declared quality, and may not be the lowest among domestic analogues. But you can be sure that you are buying truly high-quality car accessories.
Our store sells original SIM products and recommends this brand for installation on car windows and hoods.
In the inexpensive segment, we can recommend Vinguru products.
Window deflectors of this brand recently entered the market, but due to their low price and fairly good quality, they immediately won the love of car owners.
Although it’s no secret that behind the Vinguru windshield brand is a powerful domestic manufacturer of car accessories, NovLine. Who knows everything or almost everything about the needs of car enthusiasts and the consumer qualities of the leaders' products. All Vinguru products are traditionally very beautifully and efficiently packaged. Has individual instructions.
In our store you can choose, try on or order Vinguru windbreakers with delivery to any region at manufacturer prices in Moscow.
Methods for installing car deflectors on windows
Now we invite you to familiarize yourself with the basic methods of attaching wind deflectors to windows and deflectors to the hood.
Basically, all the most common window deflectors presented in stores around the country are attached to the outside of the car using double-sided tape, pre-glued on the inside of the windshield.
There are also some individual brands that are not attached to the outside of the car with tape, but inside the space of the car door - where the window seal is located.
SIM and Vinguru are attached in the traditional way, using 3m double-sided tape. It should be noted that if the installation technology is followed, fastening with adhesive tape turns out to be quite effective and strong. Neither precipitation, nor washing with a Karcher, nor careful cleaning of ice with a scraper can tear off or otherwise damage the deflectors on the windows.
The main things you need to pay attention to during installation:
- presence of original 3m adhesive tape;
- degreasing the contact patch on the car with the included wipes or a suitable non-aggressive composition;
- warming up the adhesive layer of the deflector with a hairdryer before directly pressing it to the car.
It is advisable to carry out the entire procedure in a warm room. The installation process itself in a nutshell is as follows:
- First, the edges of the tape strip on the left and right of the deflector are freed from the protective film;
- the deflector is applied to a pre-selected location above the window (at this stage you can still peel off the deflector and move it to the desired location);
- if you are completely satisfied with the location of the deflector, you need to carefully pull out the entire strip of protective film from the tape;
- Now it is necessary to ensure good pressing force over the entire contact surface of the deflector to the car.
Methods for installing car deflectors on the hood
When it comes to installing bump stops on the hood of a car, some car owners have a picture in their minds of drilling holes in the hood of a car.
This is of course a common misconception. We have never come across this method of attaching deflectors to the hood.
For example, SIM, EGR, SkyLine hood deflectors use special clips for fastening.
- As a rule, the kit of any decent brand includes a set of backing stickers that are glued to the hood in places of future fastenings.
- Next, a response clip is installed on top of these stickers.
- And accordingly, the deflector itself, through pre-provided holes, is attached with screws to the counter clips.
Screws are included in the mounting kit, and sometimes there are decorative caps for the screw heads. But oddly enough, top brands EGR and SIM do not provide them.
Depending on the shape of the hood, the deflectors may even have completely hidden fasteners. But this moment cannot be regulated in any way, because completely depends on the car.
The kit for SIM hood deflectors and also for other brands includes detailed instructions for each individual car, unique fasteners, and degreasing wipes.
From our assortment, we recommend you SIM hood deflectors as the highest quality bumpers at average prices.
The shape of SIM deflectors is smooth, the color is deep and glossy. Well-thought-out fasteners, a fairly large model range and timely addition of new products. Reliable material that can withstand impacts from small stones flying along the road.
If you have anything to add to the above, you can write in the comments to our article.
How to choose deflectors for a car?
From all of the above we can draw some conclusions. Before you buy windshields for windows or a deflector for the hood, you should check the compatibility of the product with your car brand. Next you need to decide on the type of fastening. In conclusion, you need to choose the desired color and tone of the deflector. The shape and design should not cause any complaints, everything should be clear and beautiful. There should be no vibrations after installation, no play or rattling. All parts of the deflector should look harmonious and not spoil the appearance of your car.
As for the installation itself, I would recommend leaving it to specialists; they know a lot about this matter and will be able to do the job in the best possible way. In addition, in case of any troubles, you can always demand compensation.
That's all for me, I hope the article was useful to you. As a thank you to the author, you can share this article on social media. networks with your loved ones, thereby you will contribute to the development of our site. I would also be grateful if you write a comment on this topic or share your experience of purchasing deflectors. I wish everyone well and good luck! See you at Question Auto! Bye.
Car deflectors: why are they needed, how to choose and install
Car deflectors, also known as wind deflectors, may or may not be liked visually, but there is no point in denying their benefits. Some drivers believe that such “tuning” spoils the appearance of the car, but it can definitely save a lot of nerves, money and time for the car owner. Deflectors are inexpensive, and their installation takes no more than 20 minutes. At the same time, in any service, specialists will require a lot of money to install wind deflectors. In this article, we will look at how to install deflectors yourself, as well as purchase wind deflectors.
Hood deflector
In our country, the more well-known name for this accessory is “fly swatter”. This name has a right to exist, but there is another name - hood deflector (hood shield or hood protection), it tells us about the real purpose of this accessory. Indeed, no matter how strange it may sound to many, the main task of the deflector is to protect the hood from sand and even stones that fly out at great speed from under the wheels of cars driving ahead.
There is an opinion that the hood deflector is supposed to “drive away flies”; this is fundamentally wrong. Since the air direction is uneven, and although a similar effect exists, it is observed quite rarely. Additionally, I would like to note that well-known manufacturers of hood protection, as a rule, blow their products in wind tunnels, which contributes even less to the effect of “fighting off flies.”
I would like to clarify right away that our article is dedicated to high-quality products; this does not apply to products made in Poland and Russia.
The following brands are represented on our market: EGR (Australia), Airplex (New Zealand) and Benevento (USA) and several others. Moreover, the Australian manufacturer makes original deflectors for leading automobile brands.
The differences between high-quality deflectors are as follows:
– Method of fastening. – Deflector design. – The material of the deflector and the quality of its manufacture.
The main criterion for purchasing a high-quality hood deflector is the thickness of the plastic and the scrupulous processing of the edges. For example, Australian deflectors have a thickness of 2-2.5 mm, and American ones - 3-4 mm. Not surprising, since when it comes to high enough speeds, the thickness of the deflector is critical.
The design of the deflector is usually dictated by the shape of the front of the car, so there is no question of visual perception. On one car such protection is not visible in principle, but on another it stands out from the overall design concept.
The next important factor when choosing the “right” hood deflector is the mounting method. High-quality hood “protectors” are attached to special clips and do not require drilling the lower edge of the hood. Mounting brackets come in various shapes and are made of both metal and plastic. The most important thing in mounting quality deflectors is to use the existing factory holes. In those places where the mount comes into contact with the paintwork, transparent protective plates (usually included in the kit) must be installed. Another sign of a high-quality deflector is the empty space between it and the surface of the hood. This is specifically designed to prevent dirt from accumulating and to allow ventilation of the surface.
The additional space also has a negative side, because at high speed the deflector will “dent”, and there is a risk of damage to the hood. To specifically solve this problem, manufacturers of high-quality deflectors equip their products with silicone hemispheres, which must be glued to the surface of the hood or the inside of the fly swatter.
It should be remembered that a high-quality and correctly installed hood deflector will never fly off or come off your car!
Rating of high-quality ventilation deflectors popular among buyers
Various companies offer a huge selection of deflectors of various types, but users note the most successful models that they recommend for purchase:
Roof deflector/D 200 mm, galvanized steel
This model is produced in Russia; in addition to hoods for ventilation systems, it produces filters, silencers, air valves and other products that are in great demand. The material from which the device is made is galvanized steel 0.5 mm thick. The hood consists of a base that is shaped like a circle, a diffuser in the form of a cone with truncated edges, and an umbrella.

Window deflectors
Another controversial decision. For many drivers, the installation of such accessories is not acceptable (due to visual changes), but for others (especially for those who have already tried driving with a similar solution) it is vital.
So who is right? Let's figure it out together.
One of the most important misconceptions is the following: I don’t smoke, I don’t need them. Wrong opinion. The main purpose of the windshield is to ventilate the interior in bad weather conditions, for example, during rain. Many motorists are faced with a situation where the windows fog up from the inside and the air conditioning system is not able to cope with this phenomenon. The main reason for fogging is the difference in temperature inside and outside. The easiest way is to open the window slightly, but how to do this if it is raining? It is for these purposes that window deflectors were invented.
Roughly speaking, visors are divided into two types: insert visors, which are inserted under the seal, and visors, which are glued to the door frame above the glass. My opinion is that you should buy the latter type.
Window inserts cause serious damage to window regulator parts. This happens primarily due to the collision of the glass with the windshield. Automotive manufacturers do not count on the fact that an object, sometimes as thick as the glass itself, will be in the way of the glass. The second factor, which also does not favor the inserts, is the presence in modern cars of a safe glass closing system. If there is a foreign object in the way of the glass, it will begin to fall down automatically. I have already imagined a picture of a person trying to close the windows in a car equipped with a similar system during the rain.
What type of window deflector installation is best to choose?
Many drivers like to open the side windows a little while driving. This is done for better ventilation or if the driver smokes. If you also don’t like driving in a completely closed car, then you need to consider purchasing side window deflectors. Before purchasing, you need to understand what kind of device it is and what it is needed for. Outwardly, it looks like a piece of plastic or polycarbonate curved in a special way. It is worth noting that such products can be made of metal. Essentially, this is a wing that prevents sudden gusts of air from rushing into the cabin.
To buy side window deflectors, you need to know some features of their functionality and design. As we have already found out, the main function is to deflect side air flows. If you have a deflector installed, you can safely open the window at high speed without fear of hurricane winds rushing into the cabin. People who smoke and drive are especially positive about window deflectors. This product allows you to get rid of ash even at high speed. At the same time, the ashes will definitely not fall into the interior or into the open rear window. Side deflectors have another useful property. When it rains, the drops move away from the lining and do not enter the interior.
If you decide to buy a windshield for a window in the near future, then you need to decide on the type of fastening. Deflectors can be overhead or plug-in. Both can be purchased at market.ria.com. The first ones will just have to be glued to the door frame with double-sided tape. This installation method assumes that the window spoiler must fit perfectly into the opening. In addition, you need to pay attention to the quality of the adhesive tape that comes with the kit. Experts recommend choosing 3M professional adhesive tape. If you buy a deflector that does not match the shape of the window opening or the tape turns out to be weak, then you need to understand that the day will come when the product will simply fly off from the car.
Plug-in deflectors are mounted more securely. They are mounted in the space between the glass and the rubber seal. Such models are maintained due to the fact that they accurately repeat the shape of the window opening. It is worth noting that such deflectors require powerful and reliable window lifters. This is due to the fact that this type of fastening places additional load on this vehicle unit.
How to choose good window deflectors for your car
The word “Deflector” comes from the English language and is translated as “cutter”.
Their purpose is to cut off air flows moving towards them, and from which nothing positive can be expected. That is why the popular name for deflectors is wind deflectors.
Their main function is protective. When installed, the machine can be protected from the following:
- Their presence makes it possible to protect against the ingress of dust , insects, as well as small gravel and sand onto car paint. This debris can either bounce off or settle on them. When installed on doors, they protect glass and doors from damage.
- Keeping the windows slightly open prevents raindrops from entering the cabin. This means that even when it rains, the driver can leave the windows slightly open, providing fresh air and preventing the windshield from fogging up.
- They provide a change in the trajectory of the incoming air passing along the vehicle.
What is a deflector?
A deflector is an additional device, or rather a nozzle, that fits onto the outlet of the ventilation duct, which, under the influence of wind, creates a vacuum and thereby reduces the aerodynamic resistance of the flow of air masses at the outlet. In addition to creating additional traction, the device also:
- performs protective functions and does not allow precipitation to enter the air duct;
- protects against wind, various debris, and birds getting inside the pipe
- prevents the formation of reverse draft and the accumulation of fat on the walls of the air duct system;
- The device also extinguishes sparks and removes smoke.
The basic principle of such a device is based on creating a vacuum and increasing the force of air flows. Some manufacturers equip structures with electric fans.
Features of choosing deflectors for cars
The first point to pay attention to is its shape. The reason is that its shape must match the shape of the car body, otherwise the service life of the car will be short.
However, installing this type of windshield is possible, but it will be under constant stress.
Therefore, even a small degree of impact on it can cause damage.
This situation is not at all uncommon for installed universal deflectors, the adjustment of which is carried out manually.
But adjusting the geometric shape yourself is not the most optimal solution.
If we are talking about a full set of parameters that need to be taken into account, then they will be as follows, arranged in decreasing order of relevance:
- compliance of the shape with the geometry of the body;
- type of fastening;
- product quality;
- the geometric shape of the wing of the deflector itself;
- the quality of the material used for manufacturing.
Types of deflectors
All available types of windshields can be divided into two types according to the type of installation. These are visor inserts that are installed under a rubber seal and glued to the door frame above the glass.
According to the majority of motorists, it is the latter option that is worth purchasing. The reason is the fact that the installation of windshield inserts is harmful to the glass lifting mechanism, which is not designed to collide with this kind of obstacle.
Another point is the presence in some car models of a safe window closing system, in the presence of which a collision with an obstacle causes the glass to lower down, which is uncomfortable, for example, in the rain. Rainwater will inevitably enter the car interior through an open window.
Stick-on windshields do not have these disadvantages, but are characterized by large sizes.
How do deflectors work and where can they be located?
In general, in Russia this is a borrowed word. Translated from English, deflector means cutter. And this word just fits the description of its original functions.
The deflectors cut off air so it doesn't get inside the car, and they also provide the right level of aerodynamics to make the car move a little faster.
Another important advantage of deflectors is the ventilation of the cabin, in which the air flow does not “hit” the face of the driver or passengers so much.
But they are all a little similar to each other. Deflectors are visors of various sizes.
Over time, more attractive parts began to be produced. And they began to be installed on cars not only as protection, but also for a more beautiful appearance.
And indeed it is. If you take a closer look at the car with deflectors, you will notice that it looks much more powerful and attractive.
Types of deflectors for a car
While driving, the air flow surrounds the car from almost all sides. This means that dust and dirt can penetrate from any part of the car.
That is why deflectors are divided into types. Basically, they are divided according to the place of installation, and then each type is further divided into some subspecies. For example, the material of the part or the installation method.
So, deflectors according to their main type are divided into:
- side window deflectors;
- windshield deflector;
- rear window deflector;
- radiator deflector;
- hood deflector;
- hatch deflector;
- headlight deflector
Each type differs from the other type in shape, installation location, installation method, price and material. More details about the above details can be found below.
Side window deflectors
People call them “wind deflectors” in another way.
They are also able to protect against precipitation from unpleasant weather.
They help to filter the air more efficiently, providing almost ideal air circulation, which prevents the glass from sweating.
Side window deflectors are divided according to installation method into:
- plug-in;
- invoices.
The most popular wind deflectors are overhead deflectors. This is due to the fact that the inserts can greatly affect the raising or lowering of the glass. Overhead windshields do not affect this in any way, but they are inferior in reliability to plug-in windshields.
Car wind deflector manufacturers
So, we found out that the deflector is not just a decoration for the car, but also a necessary device. However, once you find yourself in a car store, you will probably be confused, because there is a huge assortment of this kind of product on the shelves.
The seller lists you a large number of manufacturers, and you begin to understand that it is impossible to understand all this diversity without outside help. Therefore, before going to the store, it is useful to familiarize yourself with the brands and their features.
Multi-brand deflector manufacturers
The modern market covers hundreds of thousands of different cars, and each model has an individual design. Therefore, when choosing a deflector, you need to take into account the model and make of the car. The fact is that each type of car has its own parameters, from the size to the configuration of the doors and hood, and this means that the selected deflectors must completely match these characteristics.
Most manufacturers of tuning products prefer to produce multi-brand products, that is, the same wind deflectors for a wide variety of models and brands of cars, regardless of the country in which they may be produced.
Managers of manufacturing companies monitor the reputation of various car brands in the world and then, accordingly, orient production to customer demand. For example, the German company ClimAir
produces deflectors for 66 brands and at the same time has a reputation as one of the most advanced companies in the world. This company first began producing equipment for cars in 1970.
Now ClimAir is considered one of the world leaders and produces more than four thousand types of products. And, of course, this includes a huge assortment of deflectors designed for doors, hoods, and hatches of both cars and trucks.
Wind deflectors from Airpiex
- “immigrants” from New Zealand. They are distinguished by high quality and special aerodynamic characteristics. A car equipped with them literally throws away stones and dirt flying from under the wheels of oncoming cars. The plastic parts of the product can be your choice of black, transparent or two types of darkening. The deflectors of this company do not require additional processing before installation and at the same time have gentle fastenings for which you do not need to drill the surface of the body.
Heko
is a Polish company producing auto tuning products. Its products are designed for more than one and a half thousand car models. The company's specialists conduct regular research on technologies for increasing the assortment.
High-quality plastic undergoes special processing, which gives it increased resistance to abrasive scratches. In addition, the company produces a wide variety of mountings for deflectors so that customers have the opportunity to choose the most suitable installation method for themselves.
Mono-brand manufacturers of deflectors
It is quite difficult to produce products for tuning any one brand of car. That is why many companies try to produce products for different brands and models. But, nevertheless, some companies manage to produce products aimed at specific car factories. For those who follow the modern automotive industry, it is quite obvious how the popularity of Korean cars has recently increased. Therefore, the production of tuning products for these cars has also increased. And this is done, in particular, by the Korean company Autoclover
, which produces deflectors only for Korean cars.
This company's assortment includes wind deflectors:
- for the hood;
- for doors;

Mobis deflectors
also intended only for cars in South Korea. This manufacturer is known for the high quality and durability of its products. Chrome inserts are widely used in the design of windshields. For each car you can choose an individual product design.
Cody is a very popular company among Korean car owners.
, which produces trims, moldings and, of course, deflectors. Using the products of this company, you can change the appearance of your car beyond recognition.
Little-known manufacturers of car deflectors
If you couldn't find deflectors from the brands listed, don't worry about it. In the automotive industry, there are lesser-known companies whose product quality is in no way inferior to the quality of world leaders.
In this case, it is appropriate to talk about domestic Cobra
and
Comfort
, which Russian car enthusiasts know very well.
In addition, in literally any auto store you can see excellent products with the Voron Glass
, which are also produced in the Russian Federation.
Russian windshield deflector Strelka
can safely be called exclusive. This deflector is valued for its versatility. Installs quite easily under the windshield rubber seal. Very convenient in rainy weather: it diverts water from the windshield to the roof of the car, protecting the side windows at the same time.
Of course, it is not easy to understand such a variety of products. When choosing a particular manufacturer, always look through reviews of its products and consult with experienced car enthusiasts. Well, and, of course, do not forget our recommendations. Good luck and safe travels!

How to choose the ideal deflector?
In order for the deflector to perform not only a protective function, but also an attractive one, you should select such parts so that they match in shape, color, and style.
It is equally important that the part fits the place where it should stand. If the part is selected incorrectly, it will fly off during movement or will vibrate strongly.
Basically, you should select a deflector according to the following criteria:
- The deflector matches the curves of the car.
- The deflector corresponds to the grooves of the mounting location.
- The deflector matches the design and color of the car.
There are universal parts that should fit any vehicle. It is better to buy such deflectors if parts specifically for a given car are not available anywhere.

Side window deflectors. Overhead or inset?
Many car owners have already appreciated the benefits of side window deflectors.
This accessory reliably protects not only the driver, but also the vehicle from rain, dust and snow. In addition, the accessory in some cases can replace the air conditioner. In addition to direct functions, deflectors also have an aesthetic function. A bright accessory can make a car stand out from the crowd on the road. There are three types of deflectors (also called wind deflectors) on sale. These are clip-on deflectors, plug-in ones, as well as overhead ones. The former are practically not used in passenger cars. Clip-on elements are more often used in buses and freight vehicles. Special clips can damage the paintwork. This can cause corrosion.
Car owners often purchase plug-in or overhead components for their cars. There is no significant difference between them. The accessories differ only in the installation method. At the same time, both types of windshields are quite simply installed without special skills and abilities. How long a windbreaker will last depends on its quality. On market.ria.com you can purchase high-quality components for cars at an affordable price.
Installing an overhead windshield begins with choosing a mounting location. To do this, initially apply the accessory to the top of the door. Using the rearview mirrors, you can determine whether the correct seat has been selected. The deflectors in the mirrors should be displayed only slightly and not block the view of the roadway. For strong fastening, special high-quality double-sided tape is used. The choice of adhesive tape determines how firmly the deflector will hold at very low and fairly high temperatures. If the element is installed correctly, it will last at least ten years.
Overhead windshields are even easier to install. Included with the accessories are special fasteners that are inserted into the grooves of the opening glass. The deflector will be secured even more securely if you additionally use adhesive tape.
Plug-in and overhead windshields cost almost the same. Therefore, which option to choose is up to the car owner to decide. In any case, the accessory will become a reliable assistant and add individuality to the vehicle. Today, windbreakers can be purchased in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes.
CUTE, DANGEROUS, USELESS.
A breeze through the twists and turns
CUTE, DANGEROUS, USELESS.
We determine in the wind tunnel the pros and cons of spoilers, deflectors, trims and other fashionable products of this kind.
What can you see on a car dandy's car today! If only it looked “cool”! Such an enthusiast spares no effort and money, buying attachments whose purpose is encrypted in science-intensive names.
We decided to find out how such “jewelry” affects (or does not affect) the performance of the machine. At the market they chose what, according to sellers, is in high demand.
Let us clarify that our task included only a fundamental assessment of such products. Are they fit for purpose as stated by the manufacturer? For example, does the “fly trap” protect the windshield from insects? How does the installation of such accessories affect the car’s aerodynamics, visibility, noise in the car, and interior ventilation?
The work was divided into two stages. At the first, our experts evaluated each mounted element and their combinations in real traffic conditions. At the second, the aerodynamics of the VAZ 2109 and VAZ 2110 cars were studied with various body kit options in the wind tunnel of the Technical Development Directorate (former Scientific and Technical Center) of VAZ.
Both cars were equipped with 175/70R13 tires, two exterior mirrors, and standard rear wheel aprons. By the way, for the curious: even these little things have a noticeable effect on the aerodynamics of the car. For example, standard exterior mirrors can increase the “streamline factor”—the product of the aerodynamic drag coefficient CX and the cross-sectional area F of the vehicle (Table 1)—by 0.011 m2.
The experts explained to us the purpose of each aerodynamic element. Thus, the deflector directs the air flow to one or another area, for example, behind the fifth door on a VAZ 2109, reducing its pollution due to the “suction” of dust, smoke from the exhaust pipe, etc.
The spoiler reduces turbulence when the air stream separates from the body - and thereby reduces aerodynamic drag.
The wing (anti-wing) creates a lifting (pressing) force under the influence of the oncoming air flow.
So, here we have the results of purging. Some, let’s say right away, are simply unexpected. For example, a “fly swatter” noticeably increases the aerodynamic drag coefficient of the car by 2.7–2.8%, and protects only the narrow area of the hood that it covers from “bombardment” by pebbles. The deflector, which owners of cars of the “eighth” family install on the “back of the head”, copes well with its role as a “cleaner” of the rear window, practically without affecting the drag coefficient. But. noticeably worsens the picture of vertical forces acting on the vehicle’s axle. It is especially important to remember this for overly temperamental drivers on slippery roads, as well as for those who, “saving money,” equip only the drive axle with studded tires, leaving whatever is necessary on the other.
General installation features
Manufacturers produce deflectors of two types of mounting:
- mechanical fastening;
- deflectors with adhesive fastening.
Mechanical fastening occurs through special clamps. They provide security by holding the part firmly in place. Adhesive fastening is based on special glue or tape.
After which it should be fixed. The bolts will not be able to scratch the body, as there are rubber gaskets.
In case of installation using an adhesive base, you will need a hair dryer. They should warm up the base and then install the part in place. Remains of adhesive should be removed with a special solution.

Features of selection
The design of the caps is not complicated, but despite this, buyers should pay attention to the following points:
- the material from which the deflector is made;
- How does it work;
- take into account all the features of the device.
The choice is also made taking into account:
- if there is little or no draft, you should choose rotary or weather vane nozzles;
- when purchasing a rotating attachment, you should know that inexpensive devices work using an open bushing, which freezes in winter; it is recommended to pay attention to those that have a closed hinge;
- caps in the shape of the letter H are perfect for areas where there are strong winds.
Dynamic hoods are suitable for all types of terrain, but they must be serviced periodically.
Installation
The installation process is simple, but it should be remembered that not all actions are carried out directly on the roof, since the cap and the base of the device should be connected in advance, for convenience. So, the installation consists of:
- from installing the device on the inlet duct and securing it to it, this is done with special fasteners or bolts. In the second case, you will need to drill inlet holes for them;
- securing the diffuser funnel with clamps or brackets;
- placing the cap on the diffuser.
The last two steps are carried out before installing the device on the ventilation duct.
Experts in the field of installation of such structures recommend following some tips:
- The device is installed both on straight and pitched roof surfaces, chimneys and ventilation. The choice of location depends directly on the purpose for which it will be used.
- If the surface is sloping, then it is necessary to install it at the highest point; on a flat surface, before installation, the possible height of the snow cover is taken into account and placed higher. It is recommended to set the level to at least 18 cm.
- To avoid heat loss during the cold period, it is possible to install special dampers for residential premises and adjustable air intakes for non-residential premises.
When installing the device on a chimney, remember that it automatically extends its height.
How to install window deflectors on a car?
Similar parts are attached to the top of the glass frame. When installing window deflectors on a car, you can easily scratch the paint.
The best option would be to install plug-in deflectors. They are based on mechanical fastening. Since invoices can easily be torn off by the wind. But it happens that it is impossible to install insert parts due to the characteristics of the machine.
Then you should carefully heat the adhesive base on the overhead deflectors and install them in place.
