Many users of VAZ-2114 cars have a question about how to drain gasoline from the tank . Often this question arises at the moment when the car owner begins to repair his car, but there are other situations. For example, low-quality gasoline was poured, or the wrong fuel was filled, or fuel was transferred from one car to another.

Why is this necessary?

To begin with, it is worth identifying a list of reasons when there is a need to find out how to drain gasoline from the tank.

Motorists mainly justify this with the following reasons:

There are more than enough reasons. The only question is why the drain will be needed in your case.

I would like to note that bad gasoline often causes engine detonation and other malfunctions.

If you observe a situation where the engine starts and stalls literally immediately, it is possible that the reason lies precisely in the quality of the filled fuel.

Features of the VAZ-2114

This model already belongs to more modern vehicles, in which the design features of the filler neck simply do not allow the use of the time-tested method described above. It is not possible to insert even a thin tube removed from the IV into it. In this regard, it will be necessary to use other, somewhat less effective methods that make it possible to remove fuel, if not completely, then almost to the very bottom.

There are only three options:

  • dismantling the tank;
  • using a fuel pump;
  • directly through the hole located in the cabin.

In a VAZ-2114 injector, it is unfortunately impossible to do this using a return line - this method is only suitable for older cars.

Draining gasoline without removing the tank

If you do not have the time and energy to dismantle the gas tank, a standard fuel pump can help you. In the 2114 model it can be found in the tank itself.

  1. To do this, you will need to find a hose that has a suitable diameter so that it can be placed on a special fuel rail fixture.
  2. After this, you will need to unscrew the nipple from the fitting, and then put on the hose and apply 12 V to the fuel pump.
  3. Now you can start draining the fuel into a previously prepared container.

One of the undesirable consequences of using this method is clogging of the fuel line, as well as the cleaning filter and fuel pump.

How to drain gasoline from an injector

In this article I will tell you how to pump gasoline out of the tank of an injection car.

Why drain gasoline?

You refueled with low-quality fuel and you need to replace it, or someone else ran out of gasoline and you need to share so that the person can get to the nearest gas station, refueling gas tools, repairing the fuel system... In general, there are a lot of options. Let's start with the simplest - the old-fashioned option. We drain the gasoline using a hose.

We will need a hose with a diameter of 10-15 mm (thinner is better), suitable from a Soviet pump

We insert the hose into the tank and carefully pull the gasoline into us (you can get drunk on gasoline with caution), or if you have a rope or cord, pull it through the hose and tie a knot at the end, the principle of the pump emerges. Insert the end of the hose with the knot (piston) into the tank and pull out the rope, gasoline begins to flow

When you fill the container, simply pull the hose out of the tank. This option is not always suitable; often there is a mesh in the neck of the tank or it is simply impossible to insert the hose into the tank due to the design of the neck.

Many cars have a tank under the rear seat; after removing the seat, we will see a hatch and wires leading to it - this is a fuel level sensor or a fuel pump. We remove the fuel pump (in one step you can clean the fuel pump mesh and clean the contacts of the rheostat of the fuel level sensor) and drain the fuel using the method described above.

You can also disconnect the hose from the return of the fuel rail and put your hose on the return of the rail. Open the gas tank cap (so as not to create a vacuum), start the engine and in a couple of minutes the fuel pump will inflate the canister. Be careful with gasoline under pressure, fasten the hose responsibly.

The option is more complicated.

We remove the main fuel line hose from the fuel line ramp and attach our own hose to it, tighten the connection with a clamp (the pressure in the fuel line is 2-3 Atm.). Insert the end of the hose into the container. We find a block with fuses and a key relay (Usually located in the dashboard on the driver's side or under the hood closer to the battery). Using the diagram we find the fuel pump on/off relay.

We remove the relay and use a paper clip or wire to close the contacts leading to the relay. We turn on the ignition, gasoline begins to flow. If there is a lot of fuel in the tank, drain the gasoline intermittently so as not to disable the fuel pump. Immediately after air comes out of the hose, turn off the ignition (so as not to burn the fuel pump) - the tank is empty.

For domestic cars without mesh

The most famous method of draining fuel using a hose with a diameter of 15 mm, which was used by our grandfathers, is quite effective, although dirty. Not everyone knows how to suck gasoline into their mouth. If you are not careful, you can easily spill gasoline or drink it accidentally.

Here's how to properly drain fuel:

  • a hose 1-1.5 meters long is inserted into the fuel tank;
  • then the liquid is drawn into the mouth from the opposite end of the tube, which is then quickly lowered into the container;
  • After the container is completely filled, the hose is pulled out of the tank.

There is a special bulb on sale that perfectly absorbs liquid. You can use it if you don’t want to swallow gasoline.


Blower for draining gasoline

There is another option. You need to take shoe laces and a hose of the same size. Then make a knot at the end of the laces and lower the rope into the hose. The tube is placed in the tank. As soon as you pull the cord, gasoline begins to flow through the tube. It turns out to be something like a piston like a syringe. To avoid any difficulties, it is recommended to soak the rope knot in any liquid in advance.

Ways to drain gasoline from the tank of a foreign car

If your car has a mesh installed in the gas tank, and you can’t drain the gasoline with a hose, don’t worry. There are several other simple ways to drain fuel from the gas tank of a foreign car.

In any case, it is worth remembering that gasoline should only be drained from the tank in an open area, so as not to be poisoned by fuel vapors, which are very harmful to human health.

Method 1

Many modern cars have a special drain hole at the bottom of the gas tank that allows you to completely drain all the fuel from the tank. You just need to find this hole, place a suitable container under it and, unscrewing the cap, pour gasoline into it.

This method is very simple, but not all cars have drain holes, and crawling under the car is not always convenient. Therefore, we will consider another option, how to drain gasoline from the tank of a foreign car.

Method 2

In order to drain gasoline from the tank of a foreign car, you need to perform a few simple steps:

  1. Open the hood of your car;
  2. With the engine off, disconnect the fuel hose (coming from the fuel pump) at its connection to the engine.
  3. Place the freed end of the hose into a suitable container for draining gasoline from the tank (bottle, canister, etc.).
  4. Turn on the car's ignition, but DO NOT START the engine! In this case, the fuel pump will turn on for a few seconds and pump fuel. Thus, by turning the ignition on and off several times, you can drain a sufficient amount of gasoline from the fuel tank.
  5. After you have drained the required amount of gasoline, the fuel hose should be reconnected to the engine.

Keep in mind that it is better not to drain all the gasoline from the tank in this way, so as not to damage the fuel pump and not to choke the fuel system of the car.

By the way, on some injection engines of modern foreign cars and cars of the VAZ family, the manufacturer has provided a special fitting that allows you to drain gasoline from the tank without disconnecting the fuel hose from the injector (see the example in the video below).

When does it become necessary to drain the fuel from the tank?

The need to drain fuel from the tank occurs if the tank is full (excess fuel is sent to cans). Draining fuel may be necessary during repair work or to help someone out on the road (if that someone is in a difficult situation).

Note! It is best to drain gasoline on the street, and not in the garage, for example. Fuel vapors are toxic, and if you dump fuel indoors, you may inhale the fumes and get sick.

During repairs

All fuel from the tank will have to be drained if:

  • It's time to change the fuel filter.
  • The fuel pump needs to be replaced.
  • The tank must be flushed (if low-quality fuel has been there for a long time or the tank has become clogged).
  • The fuel tank must be replaced with a new one (broken, damaged by rust, etc.).

If you need to share with someone

The law of driver mutual assistance is as old as the world.

  • On the road, someone stalled due to “running out of fuel” and asks for help.
  • Another driver needs fuel to heat the cabin (if, for example, a strong snowstorm catches you on the road, and you have to wait for the Ministry of Emergency Situations for some time, and there is not enough space in your car for everyone).
  • Fuel is required to refuel the generator when the battery is low.

Removing gasoline from the car interior

This method cannot guarantee complete removal of fuel, but it is quite effective.

It turns out that you can remove gasoline directly from the VAZ interior. In this case, it is necessary to take a number of security measures. The fact is that working with fuel in a small confined space can lead to big problems. If a spark occurs, ignition and fire may occur. It is impossible to exclude the occurrence of a spark. It may appear even if you have removed the terminal on the battery.

This means that the entire procedure should be done exclusively on the street:

  • first you need to remove the seat located at the back;
  • Now you can get to one of the fuel pump modules;
  • once this is done, you will need to remove the module. Before you begin this task, you need to disconnect it from the system and strain out all the remaining fuel using a syringe or a special rubber bulb.

Advice. You can also use another pump, but then you will need to turn on the electricity.

Remember that you don’t need to use up all the gasoline before the engine stops completely, otherwise you may damage the fuel pump. It’s easy to burn this unit, but replacing the pump will cost you a decent amount.

Second option

It involves the use of a fuel pump installed in the VAZ-2114 directly in the tank. The disadvantage of this method is the risk of damaging the above-mentioned unit responsible for pumping gasoline.

Draining this way is quick. Here you will need to perform the following procedure:

  • find a fitting on the fuel rail designed to reduce pressure;
  • unscrew the nipple from it;
  • put on a hose of suitable diameter;
  • power the pump with 12 Volts;
  • drain the gasoline into a canister or other suitable container.

This option, as noted earlier, is the fastest, but also the most traumatic for the car. In particular, the following can be damaged (clogged):

  • coarse filter;
  • the pump itself;
  • fuel line

Method one, radical

There are situations when it is necessary to dry the tank completely in the literal sense of the word. The fact is that in any case, condensation appears in the tank, it settles on the walls, after which it mixes with fuel and settles to the bottom. This is not good for the fuel system, and if a critical mass of sediment accumulates, it must be removed somehow. The most effective way is to simply remove the tank completely. This is not difficult to do, but you will have to spend several hours, and removing it without a lift or, at worst, an inspection hole, will be somewhat problematic.

To completely remove the tank, you need to drain the gasoline to the minimum level, and it is easier to do this by removing the filler pipe directly from the tank. Then there will be several liters of a mixture of gasoline and condensate left, which must be drained with the gas tank removed. In this case, if the tank has already been removed, it must be thoroughly washed with pure gasoline or a mixture of gasoline and alcohol, dried, and then reinstalled on the car. This is the only method that guarantees complete removal of gasoline.

For foreign cars with mesh

In a word, on old cars (except for new VAZs) you can pump out fuel in different ways; there is no special approach. But what about foreign cars whose tank is protected by a mesh. This does not include any hose.

First thing to do. Find a drain hole on such a car. It is located below the bottom.

It will be enough to unscrew the plug and gasoline will flow. If the drain hole is not provided on the machine, you will have to do something differently.

Here's what to do.

If draining the fuel with a pump is not impressive, you can insert a bulb into the tube to pump it out. This way things will go much faster. Of course, it is better to place a wide container under the hose. In addition, if a pump pumps out gasoline, it must be given time to cool during draining (the starter must be turned off). If this is not done, the car's electronics will burn out. And most importantly, it is recommended to drain in this way in clean air or in a large room, so as not to be poisoned by gasoline vapors.

New Lada models also do not allow you to conveniently drain gasoline from the tank. The supply hoses of these cars are made curved, the fuel tank is located too low, it will not be possible to drain the fuel using the methods described above. However, there is another way.

If you have to pump out fuel periodically, it is easier to purchase a tube for refilling air conditioners. Such a hose can be put on the rail without unscrewing the nipple.

A few words about pumping out fuel. When the starter rotates, it supplies fuel only for a short period of time. To make it drain longer, it is recommended to install a jumper in the fuel pump relay or bridge the contacts in the BC. The last option has a plus - you don’t need to turn on the ignition, but there is also a minus - you can easily install the battery.
