Which lamps to choose So, as we wrote above, fog lights use standard H8 lamps with a power of 35W. The lamp itself is similar in base to the H11 lamp, but differs in lower power and a slightly smaller base.
Some car owners install H lamps instead of H8. The light actually becomes brighter, but this can lead to the fact that the PTF itself can melt. Their color will be white, but in wet weather such lamps do not illuminate the road. Which lamps for the PTF on a Chevrolet Cruze you ultimately choose depends only on your desire.
We turn the wheel out and unscrew the 3 screws 2. We bend the protection and voila, access to the lamps is provided. This way you can disconnect the connector with one hand. Basically, nothing more.
Installing daytime running lights (DRL) on a Chevrolet Cruze
After the introduction of amendments to the traffic rules, the essence of which is the mandatory use of low-beam headlights in the daytime, many Chevrolet Cruze owners began to think about installing daytime running lights.
One of the reasons why installing DRLs would have its own priorities is that the instrument lights automatically dim when the headlights are turned on, which causes slight irritation for the driver. Also, the rule for turning on lighting devices in accordance with the requirements of traffic regulations does not always work. The solution to the problem may be to install and use a non-standard algorithm for connecting fog lights to the vehicle's on-board network.
In this publication, the installation of PTFs as daytime running lights is described for Chevrolet Cruze cars with basic equipment, where instead of DRLs, plastic plugs are installed on the front bumper.
Before you begin installing daytime running lights, I would like to warn you that if your car is under warranty, any independent implementation of on-board electronics is a reason for the dealer to terminate its warranty obligations. You should also understand that this connection can be made by a person who has an understanding of the structure of the car and who has minimal experience in working with electrical wiring. Otherwise, you risk the performance of your machine.
To install you will need a set of original fog lights with covers

Installing daytime running lights on a Chevrolet Cruze
- To conveniently install daytime running lights on a Chevrolet Cruze, you need to use a lift or a wide inspection hole.
- First, let's install a set of fog lights that we purchased in advance. Let us immediately note that it is not necessary to remove the bumper for installation. It is enough to dismantle the bottom plastic protection.
- Since there is not much space under the bumper, for convenience you can remove the front fender liner fastener and move it a little, but you don’t have to do this.
- Having installed the PTF and trims in the Chevrolet Cruze bumper, we lay the wires in an insulating corrugation, fasten everything with plastic clamps and bring the top to the battery.
Installing daytime running lights (DRL) on a Chevrolet Cruze
- Having disconnected the battery, we proceed to connect the DRLs inside the car. Having removed the small glove compartment, disconnect the fuse box, turn it over and unclip its back cover.
- Now you need to find the purple wire that comes from pin 24, and we insert an additional wire, after which we install the block in place.

Note! The manufacturer's diagram shows an orange-brown wire, in our case it was blue. We recommend that you test the wire contacts before making connections.
- We pick it up a little, and then carefully pull back and remove the plastic trim on the sill on the driver's side and through the sill tunnel we lay the wire for the seat belt buckle under the lower niche of the dashboard.
- We connect the relay as shown in the photo, twist and fasten the excess wires and install the threshold and glove compartment back.

Is it possible to install LED lamps in a Chevrolet Cruze
It is possible to install LED lamps in a Chevrolet Cruze; you can even find many examples on the Internet, but the quality of the light will depend on the LED lamps installed. Cheap ones do not have a clear boundary and the beam of light is blurred, while more expensive lamps have a light boundary.

The Chevrolet Cruze is a very popular car not only in Russia, but also in other countries, since the production of this model is established literally all over the world. The popularity is also confirmed by the numbers of cars sold, since over the entire history of production there are more than three million cars sold. It was collected in Korea, Brazil, USA, Australia and a number of other countries. The car has been officially sold in Russia since 2009; sedan and hatchback bodies were produced at the GM plant in St. Petersburg. In the city of Kaliningrad, a station wagon was assembled at the Avtodor plant. The Chevrolet Cruze platform is based on the Opel Astra J; Cruz inherited engines and many suspension elements from Opel. Cruise had three trim levels: the base LS, the next LT and the highest LTZ. The basic package includes a 1.6-liter engine with 109 horsepower and a 6-speed manual transmission. There was another 1.8 liter engine with 141 horsepower. The maximum configuration included a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine with 140 horsepower and an automatic transmission. Also, the car could have included options such as a summer resident for rain and light, which was certainly a huge plus.
Fog lights for Chevrolet Cruze: overview of components
PTF lights are characterized by the type of lamp - the Chevrolet Cruze design provides for the possibility of installing such products as:
- Halogen headlights are a common type due to their availability and low cost. When properly calibrated, it provides the proper level of illumination, but has a low service life;
- Xenon or bi-xenon - products provide wide adjustment of the focusing of the light beam and allow you to achieve better illumination. Disadvantages include the high cost and the possibility of problems when entering components into the vehicle registration certificate;
- LED version - characterized by reliability and durability; diodes have the lowest energy consumption index and do not load the generator during use. One of the disadvantages of LED lamps is the difficulty of installation: improper installation can cause overheating of parts, which will significantly reduce the service life of fog lamps as a whole.

Do-it-yourself dismantling and replacement of low beam lamps
It is better to install daytime running lights in a convenient position, for example, on a lift or in a wide viewing hole, which will provide good visibility. Parts for installation and replacement must be prepared in advance. It is best to purchase optics in a specialized store. To install the headlights, you can get by by removing the lower protective plate on the bumper. And to ensure better visibility, you can remove the fender liner fasteners and move it a little to the side. This is not necessary, but you can take note for convenient replacement. Next, foglights and bumper covers are installed. The wires must be tightened into a corrugation and secured with plastic clamps, and then brought out to the battery. After this, you can begin connecting the DRLs. To do this, you need to disconnect the battery, remove the glove compartment and fuse box. Remove the rear cover on the DRL fuse box. Then, among the wires, find the purple wire coming from pin 24. Here you need to connect an additional wire and then install the fuse box back. To connect the DRL, you also need to “cut” into the blue wire in the security lock, which is located directly under the driver’s seat
Important: before connecting the DRL wires, you must ring the contacts so as not to make a mistake with the color.
After this, you need to remove the plastic trim on the threshold, on the driver's side, and run the wire from the seat belt buckle under the dashboard niche. Then connect the relay and secure the excess wire with electrical tape
After this, return the threshold and glove compartment to their place. Now you can move the expansion flank to the side and find a seal underneath it, with which you need to remove the relay wire from the passenger compartment. Connect the fuse and the positive wire from the PTF to it. Then we connect the negative wire from the fog lights to the battery and connect it to the standard system of the car. When completing work with the DRLs, it is necessary to return all the removed elements to their place in the reverse order and check the functionality of the car’s headlights.
Hello. sorry for the stupid question. How to turn on the fog lights on a Cruze - Chevrolet forum
I disconnected the connector, inserted the wires into the connector from the side of the switch so that the wires would stick out a little from the inside, ruffled the wires and bent them around the plastic.
Chevrolet Cruze: PTF power button
And now, very carefully, using a small screwdriver, pressing on the silicone, we try to unstick it from the inner walls of the light bulb base along the entire perimeter. There shouldn’t be any problems here, but you’ll have to tinker with the long wires, but first we’ll solder the terminals to them, which I didn’t measure for how to connect fog lights on a Chevrolet Cruze smaller than 2.8mm! I created my first connector the third time, the silicone was filled unevenly, then one terminal was not fully inserted, but the second connector worked the first time!
right PTF - Original fog lights are included on the Chevrolet Cruze.
So we have three options: PTFs are supplied with light bulbs, but without a mating part of the contact group.
Now we look for connector C in the niche under the fuse block. We take the fuse and relay block and begin to insert connectors into it. We install the plastic shield and repeat the procedure for the other side.
Since the original button costs about 5 thousand. But I managed to find it much cheaper in the analysis. When I connected the original button with the front PTF key, it turned out that the wiring to the fuse block had already been done from the factory and even a fuse with a relay was installed.
For installation you will need: That's why I bought a connector for connecting the radio! As it turned out, the mother terminal in the ECU is exactly the same as in the connectors for connecting the radio, only exactly half as wide.
We take out the terminal from the connector for connecting the radio, grind it along the floors and then you will get exactly the same as in the ECU. First, remove the bumper, install the fog lights and pull the wiring.
I put the wiring in a corrugation and laid it at the bottom of the bumper. We install the bumper in place. Next, the negative petal is connected to the housing.
Front headlights
Chevrolet Cruze headlights are most susceptible to external factors such as abrasive dust particles, moisture and dirt. Over time, clouding of the glass, scratches, and cracks may occur. They may also be injured by a hard object (such as gravel) or a collision with another vehicle.
To replace the front headlights of a Chevrolet Cruze, you need to remove the front bumper, having first disconnected the electrical wiring of the fog lights. The sequence of work for dismantling the bumper is given in the following article.
After this, you need to squeeze the latch and disconnect the wire connectors for the front turn signal and side marker lamps. Then, using a flat screwdriver, remove the latch for the low and high beam lamp connector, and also disconnect the gear block for adjusting the direction of the light beam.
Next, use the key “7” to unscrew the headlight mounting bolts:
- upper rear (on the front wing);
- lower rear (in the lower corner of the front wing);
- upper front (on the central frame in the radiator grille area);
- lower front (under the headlight housing).
Then the headlight is lifted up, moved to the side and completely removed from the car. Dismantling the second headlight is carried out in the same way. Installation of a new or repaired part is carried out in the reverse order.
Reminder! Incorrectly adjusted headlights can poorly illuminate the space in front of the car or blind oncoming drivers, so after completing the work, do not forget to adjust the direction of the light beam on a special stand.
Replacing standard Chevrolet Cruze PTFs with bi-xenon modules
Chevrolet Cruze arrived at our car service center at Melnikova, 5
, the owner of which decided to replace the standard fog modules with halogen lamps with
bi-xenon fog modules DIXEL G4 D2 H
with standard D2S xenon lamps, thereby the standard yellow light will change to bright white, which will enhance the head light with a powerful cut-off xenon border.
Original car fog light.
The selected DIXEL G4 D2H bi-lens was sized to fit the standard place of the old fog lights, so we did not make any major changes to the design of the bumper
. Since the PTF module is bi-xenon, it accordingly has a low and high beam mode - it’s convenient to blink if necessary.
Old and new PTF module and DIXEL lens after installation on the bumper.
For work, we needed to dismantle the bumper in order to remove the old PTF module and install the DIXEL G4 D2H bi-fog module in its place. We hid the MTF xenon ignition unit deep in the engine compartment and firmly attached it to the car frame - these are reliable units that do not interfere with the on-board network
car and instantly turn on the xenon lamps the moment the PTF is turned on.
Bi-module DIXEL G4 D2H after installation on the car and in the process of adjusting the light.
After completing the installation of bi-xenon modules in the fog lights, we returned the bumper with new lenses to the car and made the necessary light adjustments so that both lenses shine relative to each other. Using a special device (farascope), we achieve the most even cut-off line: such light will not blind oncoming drivers
and such tuning is not subject to sanctions from the police, since it fully complies with GOST.
Chevrolet Tahoe low beam. Replacing the PTF lamp
Tahoe is a big American car, but to replace the light bulb in the headlight of this car you will have to puff. But replacing the PTF is a standard procedure - as on most cars.
Let's start in order, we will change the low beam lamp. To do this, you need to unscrew the headlight mount to remove it. Two screws are located in a visible place.
But the third mount is hidden under the Tahoe headlight. To get to it, unscrew the two screws securing the fender liner and also take out two clips. We bend the fender liner and see the third mounting screw.
There is no need to unscrew the fender liner completely.
Pull the headlight all the way into the bumper. The opened space is enough to stick your hand in and turn the light bulb.
We replace the old one with a new one and assemble everything in the reverse order.
The low beam lamp on the Chevrolet Tahoe is used with an H11 socket.
Next, we’ll look at how to change the side lamp on a Tahoe, also known as running lights.
To change this bulb, you need to remove the headlight completely. We unscrew the headlight mounts, the process is described above (replacing the low beam bulb).
Then unscrew the bumper mount. Six bots on top of the radiator grille.
One below under the headlight.
We unscrew the lower one from the side from which you need to remove the headlight.
Now we pull the side of the bumper off the fender.
And we pull this part of the bumper away from the car. After this, we calmly pull the frame out.
We turn the socket with the running light bulb, take it out and calmly replace it with a new one.
- The light bulb on the Tahoe uses a two-filament light bulb with a plastic base.
- It remains to replace the lamp in the PTF Chevrolet Tahoe.
The Tahoe's fog light is located at the bottom of the bumper as on all cars. To get to it, you need to unscrew the fender liner from the bumper, insert some kind of block between the fender liner and the car body so that it does not interfere.
- And immediately a view of the fog opens up in front of us.
- Press simultaneously on two antennae of the lamp.
We press it inward a little so that the latches unclick, and simply pull the lamp out of the PTF. If it doesn't work, add rocking to the process.
The fog lamp is used - 12086FFC1 with a round bulb or - 12276С1 with an elongated bulb.
Having pulled out the old light bulb, insert a new one. Make sure the latches are secure. We assemble everything in reverse order.
Thank you for your attention! Have a bright journey!
Which N4 lamps are better: types and manufacturers
On the Chevrolet Cruze, low and high beam are implemented by one two-filament halogen lamp with an H4 socket. Within the framework of general requirements for type and design, you can choose certain models of light bulbs from different manufacturers. There are many offers on the market with different parameters. The main selection criteria should be considered:
- brightness;
- shade of light;
- life time;
- price.
One of the most popular categories among consumers are lamps with a cool white tint, which are usually classified as devices with increased visual comfort. They provide a wider overview, better readability of details, legibility of inscriptions, license plates or road signs
However, white light also has negative qualities - in bad weather it is reflected from snowflakes or raindrops, which significantly impairs visibility and distracts the driver’s attention
Increased brightness
The luminous flux density depends on two elements:
- lamp parameters;
- reflector design.
If there is insufficient light, you can try to change only the lamp model. There are devices with increased brightness, from 30 to 150% (and more). Manufacturers declare a high level of brightness, but in practice this is not always achieved. Most of the lamps are either outright fakes or designed for rally tracks.
Narva
Narva is a company from Germany that has its own glass production and is the owner of a lot of technological developments. The company's products are distinguished by a wide range and high quality of lamps. For installation in Chevrolet Cruze we recommend:
- Narva Range Power;
- Narva Xenon Look.
It is not recommended to use lamps from the Rally series as they are designed for sports cars.
Bosch
A powerful brand of global importance that does not need any special introduction. For use in Chevrolet Cruze head optics we can recommend:
- Bosch H4 LONGLIFE DAYTIME;
- Bosch Pure light.
The first option is lamps with an extended service life, the second is inexpensive and ordinary lamps in all respects, which can be installed in Chevrolet Cruze headlights without hesitation.
Clearlight
The Korean company Clearlight produces xenon, bi-xenon, halogen and LED lamps that can be installed in the low beam of a Chevrolet Cruze. The parameters of the devices are quite varied, the choice is wide. However, there are a large number of cheap fakes on the market, so you need to be careful and carefully check the labeling and country of origin. We can recommend the H4 models from the Longlife series, which have an extended service life.
Philips
Philips h4 lamps are installed by default in Chevrolet headlights. The standard solution, however, the Philips model range also has new products that allow for greater efficiency. These include:
- Phillips Crystal Vision;
- Philips X-tremeVision;
Vision 130 models have an extended service life; the narrow beam of light practically does not hit the oncoming lane and does not blind drivers. However, many users note poor visibility of roadside details and readability of road signs.
Osram
Inexpensive German lighting devices with a long service life and high-quality bright light. Popular models:
- Osram Original Line;
- Osram Ultra Life;
- Osram Blue Intense.
There are many models of Osram h4 halogen lamps that provide effective and comfortable high and low beam.
LED lamps
The use of LED lamps for high or low beam is prohibited. The only exceptions may be LED lamps installed by the manufacturer in specially designed headlights. Chevrolet Cruze is equipped with halogen lamps by default. Some motorists try to bypass the rules by installing such lamps, which causes inconvenience for drivers of oncoming cars. In addition, weak heating of the LEDs causes condensation to settle and icing of the headlights.
Replacing PTF on a Chevrolet Cruze: detailed instructions
The procedure for installing new fog lights takes a couple of hours and requires a minimum of tools - you will need a wide slotted screwdriver, a T20 wrench and pliers.
Also, before repair work, the car must be driven into an inspection hole or the required part of the vehicle must be jacked up. PTF installation is carried out as follows:
- On a vehicle prepared for servicing, it is necessary to clean the surface of the aerodynamic shield - to do this, wipe the part with a mild soap solution and wipe with a dry cloth;
- Next, we unscrew the clamps and dismantle the protective element, after which access to the fender liner fastenings opens, which also need to be removed using the T20 key;
- Now nothing interferes with access to the PTF and you can disassemble the block with wiring harnesses and remove the lamps, having first disconnected all connectors leading to the power cables. The lamps are removed by scrolling the part clockwise until they come out of the fixing grooves. The assembly procedure follows the reverse algorithm.
Chevrolet Cruze fog lights: what lamps cost, how to replace them
Fog lights are known to significantly reduce the risk of accidents and make driving easier in bad weather, so you need to constantly monitor the serviceability of the fog light bulbs. Thanks to this article, we will learn how to change the bulbs in the Chevrolet Cruze fog lights ourselves.
Other possible causes of PTF malfunction
Failure of the lamp, of course, is the most common, but not the only malfunction of fog lights. If after replacing the PTF lamps they still do not light up, then the reasons may be:
Fuse blown. We open the mounting block, which is located in the engine compartment. We check the serviceability of fuse 48 (photo below), if necessary, replace it with a serviceable one of the same rating (15 A).
Numbering of fuses and relays in the Chevrolet Cruze mounting block
Broken wiring for fog lights. We inspect the wiring responsible for the fog lights, looking for frayed or broken wires. If we cannot find the location of the break, we disconnect the faulty wire, and instead install an additional one of the same cross-section and always a special automobile one.
Short circuit to the body of the wiring responsible for the fog lights. This malfunction causes fuse 48 to blow out (see above), and after replacing it with a new one, the latter also burns out immediately. We inspect the wiring responsible for the fog lights, looking for a wire with frayed insulation. If it is not possible to find the location of the short circuit, we disconnect the faulty wire, and instead install an additional one of the same cross-section and always a special automobile one.
Oxidation or burning of connecting pads. We inspect the contacts of the pads on the headlights and in the mounting block. They should be clean and shiny: no dirt, oxide or soot. If necessary, clean with fine-grained sandpaper.
So we have found out which lamps need to be installed in the Chevrolet Cruze fog lights, and if necessary, we can do this without outside help.

As a rule, the knowledge and tools available to the average driver are not enough to properly repair electrical wiring or headlight design. Diagnosing burnt-out lamps is easy.
If there are other signs or severity of breakdowns, you should not carry out independent repairs. On their own, most Chevrolet Cruze owners can only fix burnt-out lamps. To replace them you will need: In principle, nothing more is needed.
In most cases, PTF repairs last about hours, which should be taken into account before starting.
The replacement process on both headlights is completely identical and is carried out in the following order: Tamara Pakhomova You will always have time to contact the service center.
I will be happy to tell you how you can repair your iron friend on your own, including sharing my experience of how I change fog lights myself.
In our area, the weather is not stable, so you regularly have to use fog lights, especially when there is fog on the road.
A few words about PTFs and their malfunctions
Fog consists of water droplets in the air. If fog hits you on the road, it is certainly not safe, especially if there are no fog lights.
Conventional headlights can illuminate the road, but with such lighting, the beam of light from the headlights is partially reflected from the water droplets, and visibility does not improve much.
The light from the fog lights is reflected from water droplets to a greater extent, so visibility on the road in fog will be much better. But I digressed from the main issue - a faulty fog light and its replacement.
How to change Chevrolet Cruze fog lights
To eliminate such a malfunction, it is enough to replace the light source; fortunately, this is done very simply and the part is inexpensive. It is better to entrust the elimination of PTF breakdowns of other forms to professionals.
We look at the PTF from the outside and immediately understand which way to turn the lamp to remove it. It is very difficult to turn the lamp; to turn it, it is better to wear gloves or use a rag.
We install a new lamp, assemble everything in the reverse order and move to the other side. PS It will be more difficult to climb up from the passenger side, I also climbed up from below, bending the protection down, it seemed easier to me.
Be on the alert: we place the foglights correctly!
The legislation of the Russian Federation allows the installation of PTF headlights, but requires standardization of the number and location of lighting units. In order not to receive a fine if stopped by traffic police or when bypassing a technical inspection, the following series of conditions must be met:
- The flashlight lens must have a yellow or milky light; the use of other colors is not allowed;
- The headlights must be of identical structural shape and have a unidirectional light beam;
- The headlights must be installed at a height of at least 250 mm from the road surface, and the separation of the dimensions should not exceed 400 mm;
- Additional lighting must be activated by separate control levers, regardless of the standard lighting.
This set of rules is necessary to increase the level of safety when operating vehicles in conditions of poor visibility - ignoring the recommendations can disorient drivers, which can lead to an emergency.
Light on the road and safety
Headlights are, first and foremost, a safety factor when driving. Thus, it is necessary to create visibility on the road, to identify the car for pedestrians, but at the same time, the light rays should not blind an oncoming car. To do this, every car enthusiast must adjust the light beams.
Place the car perpendicular to a smooth wall (for example, in a garage) at a distance of 3 m. Place a load weighing 75 kg on the driver's seat. Mark the screen on the wall as shown in Fig.
10. 7. The longitudinal plane of symmetry of the car should pass along line 0 on the screen.
Vertical lines 1 and 2 are located at equal distances from line 0. The distance a between lines 1 and 2 should be equal to the distance between the centers of the low beam headlights. Rock the car sideways so that the suspension springs self-align.
