Modernization of the Oka engine is conditionally divided into two directions:

The ideal option for converting the Oka to an injector is to install a 1.3-liter engine from a Rover Mini. Modernization allows you to increase the technical characteristics of the car, but the cost of the work is very high, since most systems need to be redesigned for a new engine.

  • Installation of bronze guides.
  • Reconstruction of combustion chambers.

The intake and exhaust manifolds are replaced with sports analogues, the air filter is replaced with a K&N model with zero resistance. The work allows you to improve the technical characteristics of the engine and minimize power losses.

Improving the design

In addition, on an ATV, the engine must be placed lengthwise to ensure the operation of the gear change and also to synchronize the gearbox with the output shafts. And if in a car the synchronization goes to the right and left wheels, then in an ATV it goes to the front and rear axles, respectively.

Also, do not forget to take care of the location of the entire structure. Since this is not a car, the entire unit will need to be moved slightly to the left. This is necessary so that the horizontal angle of the transmission shafts decreases, otherwise the ATV will operate unevenly.

The gearbox will also have a number of unique features. For example, it is recommended to immediately remove the gear pair and install a chain drive instead. This is necessary to balance the speed of movement and at the same time increase torque.

Gear shifting in this case is also longer. It is better to install the speed shift lever on the left. There will be four gears in total, two at the front and at the rear, and accordingly the position of the speed lever will change.

In addition, it is recommended to remove the gearboxes between the wheels, typical for VAZ cars. The axles are removed together with a stocking, and shafts are installed instead for front-wheel drive models. Replacement is carried out in the same way in other parts of the transmission. In general, assembling an ATV from Oka’s car is not difficult, just some parts will require replacement. However, the ATV will have a largely different layout and tasks, which means the assembly will need to be adapted. Transmission is one of the most difficult stages; everything else will not require such effort. If you want to do something unique, do not forget about drawings and calculations. This will give you a solid base to work from.

So, if you decide to tune your Oka, then you can start with anything, since the “field for work” is huge. Before starting work, you will need to clean it and remove everything unnecessary. The most optimal and common tuning option is to install multimedia equipment inside the cabin. Also, for beauty and uniqueness, it is worth replacing the front panel.

It's worth noting that a glove compartment is not included as standard. It may appear after selecting a specific front panel model.

Next, you need to solve the problem with lighting, since factory lighting is suitable for illumination during the day. You can install 2 lamps at the rear of the cabin. There are also a few light bulbs on top, but not very bright. In addition, you can make the front panel illuminated. And for a stronger effect, you can backlight the switches. You will also need to install switches for these lamps somewhere. You need to do this carefully and not look terrible.

Next, you can replace the standard covers and mats with something newer and more beautiful, something that will add zest to your car. You need to choose high-quality cases. Since there are a large number of low-quality covers on the market, you need to choose carefully so that later, while in the car, they do not get damaged or come apart at the seams. Covers need to be of such quality that the fabric is dense and not very elastic. This is necessary so that after you have been sitting in a chair for a long time, when you get up from it, there are no holes or sinkholes left in the seats. Of course, these fabrics are more expensive, but the quality and service life are longer.

But, if your budget allows, you can also replace the upholstery of the chairs.

How to assemble a tractor

To mount tractor units on the frame, you will need the ability to select spare parts from other mechanisms. During assembly, the master must carry out the following stages of work:

  • installation of undercarriage based on wheels or tracks;
  • installation of engine and clutch;
  • creation of brake and steering systems;
  • seat mount.

To install the wheel axle shafts on the frame from below, weld the racks from the corner. It is better to take the front and rear axles of the same type, this will greatly facilitate other tasks. When using axles from Oka, it may be necessary to replace the hubs to install discs of larger diameter. Sometimes craftsmen make it simpler: they cut out a circle with a mount from an Oka wheel rim and weld it into a hole prepared on a rim from another car.

It is better to make the front axle for breaking yourself, from a steel rod at least 5 cm thick. In the middle of the part you need to install a hinge joint that will ensure the mobility of the bridge on uneven roads. Equip the ends of the homemade beam with ears for attaching axle shafts with hubs. To lubricate the system, install a separate oil tank. A distributor for front-wheel drive cars or tractors in Belarus will help make these wheels drive.

When creating a mini tractor with your own hands with an Oka engine, the easiest way is to use standard brakes and clutch. On a solid frame, this part of the assembly should not cause any difficulties, especially when using axles from the same car. Only the problem of placing the engine itself is solved individually. This large unit is most often installed in front, but craftsmen, concerned about the compactness of the tractor, move the motor back, under the driver’s seat.

When working with a broken frame and a homemade front axle, you can use parts from other cars. In this case, they are adjusted to fit existing structures. When making a crawler-mounted tractor, you will need to purchase tracks and rollers for them, which will significantly complicate the work.

A homemade mini tractor with an Oka engine is equipped with a gearbox from the same car. At the break, the unit is mounted on the front half-frame. When using a solid base for homemade work, the gearbox is placed in a convenient place, facing the driver.

What do you need for work?

If you have a dismantled or damaged Oka car, the master can use its surviving units:

  • engine;
  • transmission;
  • wheel axles;

If necessary, these units are replaced with compatible ones, modifying the connections of different units.

A do-it-yourself tractor from Oka is made on the basis of channel No. 6-8 or a corner 4x4 cm. The amount of material can be easily calculated based on diagrams that indicate the dimensions of the frame.

As a seat for a homemade tractor with an Oka engine, you can use any item suitable for this purpose. There are even designs with a stool attached to the frame or an office chair removed from its support.
