What kind of engine oil to pour into the Volkswagen Polo engine

Volkswagen Polo is a budget car produced since 1975. The main body for this model is a three- or five-door hatchback, but in some countries a 4-door sedan is also available - for example, on the Russian market. In addition, there is also a station wagon and a utility version of the Caddy. In Europe, the Polo, along with the larger Golf, is among the best-selling cars. In 2010, the car received the European Car of the Year award. Also in 2010, Polo production began at the Russian plant in Kaluga. A total of six generations have been produced, and the current model has been on sale since 2021.

Engine oil in a Volkswagen Polo - how often to change The engine oil in a Volkswagen Polo is replaced every 10 thousand km. Any lubricant, even original, becomes unusable over time. The effectiveness of detergent additives decreases, the engine begins to overheat, dry friction of parts occurs and accelerated wear occurs. Timely oil changes will help to avoid such problems. In harsh urban conditions, this procedure should be performed much earlier than the above period, since in traffic light jams there is a high probability of overheating of the internal combustion engine and premature loss of the beneficial properties of the oil. Therefore, it must be changed every 6-7 thousand km.

How to choose an analogue

The choice of oil substitute for Volkswagen Polo is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the plant.

VAG Specifications

For car models produced before 2001, the concern recommends using VW 500.00 mixtures. Due to the obsolescence of the standard, it is permissible to use more recent certificates or a group of oils that comply with ACEA A1/B1. The factory approval supports naturally aspirated engines without exhaust treatment systems.

Polo cars produced after this period (2010-2015 and later) need to pour such mixtures.

  1. 501.01 – support for power plants with direct fuel injection, regardless of the fuel consumed.
  2. 502.00 is a toughened version of the first standard. ACEA A3/B3 compliance available.
  3. 503.00 – used where lightweight turbines are installed and there are no particulate filters. Improved compatibility with extended service intervals.
  4. 504.00 - the standard is relevant for all power plants with exhaust cleaning systems, turbocharging or direct injection. The service life of one portion is 30,000 km.

The basis

The Volkswagen Polo uses all three types of lubricants available in 2021.

Mineralka

Operation is relevant for Volkswagen Polo cars manufactured before 2000. The lubricant is produced by refining sour crude oil. It is characterized by minimal protective properties and a moderate service life. The advantage is the affordable cost.

Semi-synthetics

Transition link used primarily in all generations of engines. Old Volkswagen Polo internal combustion engines can be refilled in any condition. New engines allow you to pour half artificial fluid only with high mileage.

Regarding protective properties, all parameters are at an average level.

Synthetics

Advanced development. The oil is produced using natural gas synthesis technology to produce complex hydrocarbons. This guarantees the absence of harmful impurities and, as a result, excellent protection of internal components from premature wear.

The mixtures are poured into new Volkswagen Polo cars.

Viscosity

Regarding the fluidity of lubricants, Polo engines are not capricious. Viscosity is determined by the climatic conditions in which the machine is operated individually. The SAE J300 standard temperature table is used as a reference tolerance.

Required Tools

In order to change the engine oil in the engine of a Volkswagen Polo sedan, the car owner will need a set of tools and materials, which are listed in the table below.

Volkswagen Polo gearbox oil

Volkswagen Polo is equipped with 4 types of transmission units. Each design requires its own product to be poured.

Automatic transmission

From the factory, the car receives a 4-speed automatic transmission type Aisin 09G (TF60-SN).

During warranty service, dealers fill in VW ATF G055025A2 mixture. As an analogue, you can use the formulas Castrol Spezialprodukt, Mobil 98GX57 ATF 3309 and LIQUI MOLY TOP TEC ATF 1200.

The standard service interval is 70,000 kilometers. The required volume of fluid for a full/partial replacement is 7/3.5 l.

Manual transmission and robotic automatic

These Volkswagen units are combined into one list due to the similarity of design. The car is equipped with a 5/6-speed manual transmission or a 7-position robot.

Here it is important to use the factory consumable VAG G052512A2 API GL4. The crankcase filling capacity is 2.1 liters, the service life of one portion is recommended to be limited to 65-70 thousand km.

As an analogue, synthetic mixtures API GL-4/5 can be poured. In this case, the brand of the consumable is not of fundamental importance.

Third generation MK3, 1994-2001

The 1994 Polo became larger and more expensive than its predecessor. Sound insulation has improved and interior comfort has increased, and finishing materials have become more expensive - almost like those of a Golf. In Europe, the main modification remained the hatchback, although in Spain they also produced the Polo Classic sedan (analogous to the Seat Cordoba) and the five-door Polo Varian station wagon. In addition, it was the 3rd generation Polo that became the basis for the creation of the first generation VW Caddy family car. In 2000, an updated version was released with a revised design and improved engines.

Fourth generation MK4, 2001-2009

The 4th generation Polo was positioned as a more prestigious car, although it belonged to the B-class. In terms of the quality of finishing materials, the model has become even closer to cars of a higher price category. However, the design of the Polo MK4 has proven to be quite controversial for many fans - largely due to the rounded dual headlights at the front. The rest of the car looked quite strict, especially inside. In terms of equipment, the car was ahead of its competitors. The basic modification was equipped with a 55-horsepower 1.2-liter engine, and the “charged” version of the GTI received a 150-horsepower 1.8-liter engine. There was also a small-scale GTI Cup Edition with 180 hp. With. Of the simple cars, the most powerful version was the 1.9 diesel engine (130 hp).

Fifth generation MK5, 2009-2019

The fifth generation Polo, as before, was available in three- and five-door versions. The car was given back the usual headlights in the style of the Polo MK3, as a result of which the car began to look “grown-up”. In addition, the body has more straight and angular panels. The Polo line expanded for the first time with the pseudo-off-road version CrossPolo, which had plastic side linings. In Russia, at first they offered a hatchback, which was replaced by a more popular sedan.

The four-door version was produced in many countries - India, Malaysia, South Africa and the Russian Federation. The car was equipped with 1.2 and 1.4 TSI turbo engines, as well as naturally aspirated internal combustion engines of the same volume. 1.2 and 1.6 liter diesel engines were also available. The engines were combined with a manual transmission or a “robot”. The “charged” modification of the GTI received a 180-horsepower 1.4-liter turbo engine. In 2013, Volkswagen released a small series of Polo R WRC hatchbacks with a 220-horsepower two-liter engine, manual transmission and rigid suspension. In Russia, the Polo hatchback was offered only with 1.2, 1.4 and 1.2 turbo engines (60, 85 and 105 hp, respectively). After restyling in 2014, only the sedan began to be sold in Russia.

Sixth generation MK6, from 2020

The 6th generation Polo is a copy of the Rapid liftback, but stands out for its original front design. The car has nothing in common with the European Polo MK6 hatchback, which is built on a completely new platform. The Russian Polo has a proven PQ5 design.

However, improvements compared to its predecessor are visible to the naked eye. Thanks to the liftback body, the trunk of the Polo has become much more convenient and spacious, the loading height has decreased and it has become possible to transport long cargo. However, despite the visible innovations in the design of the exterior and interior, the engine range of the Polo MK6 is completely identical to that which was relevant for the Russian sedan of the previous generation. We are talking about 1.6 petrol internal combustion engines (90-110 hp), produced in Russia, as well as the only 1.4 turbo with a capacity of 125 hp. With. It works with a 7-speed DSG robot, while domestic engines can be combined with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
