I was prompted to this topic by the story of a friend who decided to look at the city of Gatchina. But in the end I was left without wheels, which were safely removed right near the hotel. In such work as steering, extreme care is required. I’m already silent about repairs, where every movement is of great importance in terms of the quality of the final result.

• the car is jacked up to hang the problem wheel;

• a durable socket head (the diameter should be slightly smaller than that of the security bolt head);
• powerful torque wrench;
• hammer;
• regular bolt;
• screwdrivers.

You need to hammer the socket head (the diameter is selected to be 0.5 smaller than the bolt) using a hammer. It should work, since secrets are usually made on the basis of soft metals. This will give the bolt a shape that matches the edges of the socket head.

A torque wrench is installed on the head and the unscrewing process begins. Take your time, turn slowly and gradually. As soon as the secret gets off the ground, consider that everything worked out.

Internal extractor

Not everyone knows about the conical extractor. This is a tool that is designed to remove damaged bolts and studs. Therefore, it is also suitable for a security bolt.

Here's how it works:

• a hole is drilled in the bolt to match the size and exact shape of the extractor used;
• the tool is inserted into the fastener by driving it in;
• a knob is connected to it and they boldly begin to gradually rotate it;
• you should move in a clockwise direction;
• rotation should be smooth and accurate;
• otherwise you will break the thread;
• the secret is removed;
• a regular wheel bolt is installed in its place.

The main thing here is to choose the right drill that will cope with the metal of the fastening security bolt.

New secret key

If you have a good friend who makes keys using casts, this method may be suitable. Plus, you should have a reserve of time, since this method will not be able to solve the problem instantly.

The advantage is that the manufactured key can be used on an ongoing basis in the future. Relevant for those who have simply lost their old key.

To make a copy, you should make a plasticine cast of the head of the secret bolt. Be careful, the plasticine may stick to the surface. To ensure a high-quality impression, first lubricate the mount with oil.

The next step is to unscrew all the bolts except the secret one. Leaving only it tightened, support the wheel with a jack and gently rock it on the hub.

Finally, tighten the bolts and nuts again as tightly as possible. This will again take the load off the secret. Try to screw them symmetrically to avoid distortion of the disk. Now try to unscrew the secret.

This method is great for those whose locking lock cannot be unscrewed due to the fact that it is stuck to the thread.

Method No. 2

The second method is suitable for those who have lost the key, but the security device can be unscrewed normally. Thus, the problem here arises of how to remove the secret lock without a key. To do this, try to choose a head with a suitable diameter. Using a sledgehammer, it is carefully hammered onto the secret bolt. After that, try to rip it off with a crank. Most often this solves the problem with the protective device.

Instead of working with a sledgehammer, you can choose welding and weld an ordinary bolt onto the head of the lock. If necessary, use automatic or semi-automatic welding and protect the disc with asbestos. Welding may not help only in one case, if the secret is made of very high-quality metal, which is unlikely today.

This method of obtaining a key is quite simple, but will cost a considerable amount.

Method No. 2

This option is applicable when there is no key, but the secret can be unscrewed freely. That is, the problem here is how to remove the plug without using a key. To do this, you need to try to find a head that fits in diameter. It needs to be hammered onto the bolt using a sledgehammer. After this, you need to try to rip it off with a crank. This will often be the solution to the safety device problem.

If you don’t have a sledgehammer in your “arsenal”, then welding is quite suitable for these purposes, with the help of which you need to weld a regular bolt to the head of the lock. If alloy wheels are installed on the wheels of your car, then before performing this “operation” the disk must be covered with asbestos for protection, and welding must be done either semi-automatically or automatically.

Today, welding joints are not made very conscientiously, that is, they take not very good material, but otherwise the welding will not cope with the task.

In addition to these methods, there are many others, but the vast majority of them either do not help at all or are almost impossible to implement.

If you have no particular desire to spend a lot of time and energy dismantling the secret lock without using a key, then it is better to go to a car service center. A specialist will deal with such a problem quickly, but such work will cost money.

Cap extractor

There are special devices invented just for emergency unscrewing of bolts. Cap extractors vary in size, manufacturer and can be sold from 500 rubles and much more. In appearance, they are similar to wrench heads, only inside they do not have a standard thread, but spiral-shaped sharp edges.

If you lose your wheel key, you need to use the extractor as follows:

• the device is applied close to the secret bolt;
• take a heavy hammer or sledgehammer - you need to force it into the socket head;

The method is effective in 99% of cases if it was possible to install the extractor. But it will not work for those bolts that are equipped with a protective skirt.

This is a rotating ring that does not allow the extractor to wrap around the head. In a situation where it is present, you first need to knock it down with a chisel, but this will also take time.

By analogy with the external extractor, you can use the same method with a socket head, which is found in any set of tools. It is better to use a 12-sided head, but the main thing is that it is made of high-quality steel. In this case, the effect and consequences will be the same as from using an extractor.

How to make secrets yourself

Making wheel locks is quite difficult. Those who want to prove their skill in such a matter will make these bolts. Otherwise, it is better to spend some money on purchasing high-quality foreign-made bolts to protect your car from theft.

To make it, you need to take ordinary bolts, for example, from a VAZ. Using a blank, you need to make three symmetrical holes and thread them. Then you need to make a large hole in the center for the bolt and so on. The most important thing is that the gap is no more than 0.2 - 0.3 mm.

• An extractor is driven into the hole, and the bolt is unscrewed with its help.

This method is suitable if you have a highly qualified specialist in mind who can make a key from a cast. The work is quite complicated, but the method will allow you to use the lock in the future, and also completely eliminate the risk of damage to the disk, tire and wheel hub.

To make a duplicate, a plasticine cast is made of the head of the secretion. To prevent the plasticine from sticking to the bolt head, it must first be lubricated with machine oil. The resulting cast must be taken to the master, who will make a new key from it.

Exotic ways to extract secretions

The most unusual option for removing a bolt is freezing it with liquid nitrogen. Exposure to ultra-low temperatures will make the metal brittle, so the bolt is simply broken with a hammer and removed piece by piece.

When freezing with nitrogen from a can, you will have to be extremely precise and hit the head of the secretion exclusively. Nitrogen should not be sprayed onto other parts and the disk. After the head is destroyed, the threaded part of the bolt is easily unscrewed from the wheel.

How to unscrew the lock in auto repair shops

To dismantle the locks, service station technicians use the “old-fashioned” method of welding a bolt or hexagon of a suitable size onto it. To preserve the disk, a piece of pipe is often welded from the inside, and a nut, bolt or hexagon is welded to it.
