Electric
If the throttle valve is equipped with an electric drive, then there is no direct connection between it and the gas pedal.
The principle of operation of an electric damper does not change, but its design is much more complex. Simplified, such a node works as follows. The force of pressing the gas pedal is recorded by a special sensor, which transmits this information to the engine control unit, the throttle opening angle is determined by the throttle position sensor, and also transmits the corresponding signals to the control unit. The controller constantly compares these values and sends commands to the electric motor to increase or decrease the damper opening angle. The main distinguishing feature of the electric throttle valve is the absence of an idle speed control. When the engine is idling, the throttle valve does not close completely; its opening angle is set by the control unit in accordance with the operating parameters of the power unit. The electronic throttle, unlike the mechanical one, has not one position sensor, but two. If one sensor, also known as the throttle potentiometer, fails, the throttle assembly will still work.
Cleaning the throttle valve
Hello dear friends #128578; Not long ago I decided to clean my injector throttle valve. After all, due to its contamination, problems with the car may arise.
Problems due to a dirty valve:
Slight difficulty when starting the engine; Dips or jerks are felt during engine operation; Fairly low power; Frequent occurrence of detonation; Sagging, holding and twitching; Engine operation with minor interruptions; Increased fuel consumption; In the exhaust system, when gasoline is processed, a specific gasoline smell arises; Instability during engine operation, and stopping during cold operation; Sometimes the fuel mixture spontaneously ignites; Some popping noises are heard in the intake manifold or muffler
Cleaning does not require a lot of effort and tools; if you want to do this work, then when working you will need:
— Wrench 13 (socket)— Screwdriver (for clamps)— Wrench 11— Carburetor cleaner (aerosol)

Removing the throttle valve from a VAZ 21093
— Loosen the clamps and remove the hoses (in the picture under the numbers 1 and 2)— Loosen the clamp under the number “3” and remove the hose— Loosen the clamp under the number “4” and disconnect the hose— Loosen the clamp and remove the heating hose (I have that plug) — Loosen the clamp and remove the crankcase gas exhaust hose (see the picture below)
Crankcase gas hose for VAZ 21093 engine
— We unscrew the cable fastenings with a 11 key (or just pull out the cable) — We unscrew the damper mount with a 13 key (one fastening is at the top, the other at the bottom). — We clean everything (all the holes and in general everything dirty in the damper), and you can also wash it from above. Important: the sensors also need to be removed, by the way, clean them too. Replace the gasket if necessary.
For work, I bought a carburetor cleaner, I always take it, it’s not expensive and good! By the way, when I removed the hose that goes to the filter, there was oil there, which indicates that the mesh that is on the valve cover is clogged (information from the Internet), so as soon as it gets warmer outside, I’ll do it right away!
What are the signs of a dirty throttle body?
Flushing the throttle assembly and valve is not a difficult task. But many car owners do not know how to clean, why and when, and, having little experience in car maintenance, are afraid to climb under the hood and do anything with their own hands.
In this article we will analyze the entire procedure for flushing the throttle assembly, and I hope that the typical car owner will no longer have all the questions about performing this operation.
What is a throttle valve (DZ), throttle assembly (DU)?
In simple terms, this is the gas pedal. By pressing it, we open the remote control, from where air enters the engine, and with it gasoline enters the cylinder, increasing engine speed. The harder we press the pedal, the more the throttle is open, the higher the engine speed.
Where is the DZ located?
The entire throttle body is located in the engine compartment. It is located between the intake manifold and the air filter. In other words, the air enters the filter, passes through the mass air flow sensor, enters the remote control, and from there goes to the engine through the intake manifold (receiver). To find out where the remote control is located, pay attention to the figure (number 3).
Why and when to clean/wash the throttle valve?
There are such concepts as oil dust, crankcase gases, oil deposits - all this dirt settles on the walls of the remote control both outside and inside. Because of this, the remote control stops closing or opening completely.
Signs of a dirty remote control
The most common symptoms associated with a dirty damper:
- Poor engine starting.
- Unstable idling, speed fluctuates.
- The car jerks when driving at low speeds.
- Difficulty idling, engine stalls.
All these signs indicate a dirty remote control. But do not rush to draw conclusions and start cleaning the unit, because they may also indicate a breakdown of some sensors: IAC, TPS - they are located on the throttle assembly and may be faulty. In particular, high-quality washing of the remote control can cure them, but not a fact (by following the link, you can check, clean, replace the IAC, check the TPS, repair and replace it). A faulty mass air flow sensor also has similar symptoms. It is advisable to clean the remote control at intervals of 30 thousand km.
Flushing the remote control
In this article we will describe two types of DS cleaning:
- Surface.
- Full.
They differ in the degree of complexity and, accordingly, in quality.
Superficial cleaning
Its essence is that we will not completely disassemble the entire remote control, but will go over the damper with a cloth and remove surface dirt.
For work we will need:
- Any cleaning agent: carburetor cleaner, alcohol, thinner, gasoline, wd-40. They differ in the degree of “removability” of dirt.
- Rag.
- Brush.
First of all, we remove the air filter corrugation from the air filter, take our cleaning agent and spray it inside. We begin to clean the surface with a rag and brush. Also, do not forget to open the damper itself and clean it from the back. At this point the process is completed, we install the filter pipe back, and that’s it. But with this cleaning method, we will not be able to completely clean all the insides of the remote control, blow out all the holes and channels, so it is better to use a complete cleaning.
Complete cleaning of the remote control
To perform a complete cleaning of the damper, in addition to a rag and cleaning agent, we will need:
- Flathead, Phillips screwdriver.
- DZ gasket (for 1.5 l) and receiver o-ring (for 1.6 l).
- Cotton buds.
- Socket wrench set to "13".
- 2 M13 bolts.
In this case, we need to completely remove the remote control and clean it from all sides.
- In order to remove the unit, disconnect the air filter corrugation and remove the coolant pipes. liquid and adsorber.
- Disconnect the remote control mount, remove the throttle cable, and remove the remote control. If you need a more detailed description of removing the unit, then read the article: How to remove the remote control, remote control?
- Having removed the DZ, we disconnect and clean the IAC sensors (how to clean the IAC), TPS and completely wash the damper on all sides with a cleaner, be sure to blow out all the holes with compressed air.
- Then we install everything back, not forgetting to put in a new gasket.
Throttle valve, potentiometer, idle speed controller
Gasoline is used as fuel in the internal combustion engines of VAZ-2109, VAZ-2110 and other models produced or produced by the Volzhsky Automobile Plant. However, in the cylinders it does not burn on its own, but in a mixture with air. The throttle valve is needed to prepare the air-fuel mixture in the required proportions. It is located behind the air filter in front of the intake manifold.
Basically, the throttle valve is an air valve that regulates the amount of air entering the engine. The principle of its operation is to change the cross-section of the air channel. When it is fully open, air flows freely into the intake manifold. To determine the opening angle, a throttle position sensor is used, which is connected to the engine control unit. Based on the signals transmitted by the sensor, the control unit issues a command to increase the amount of fuel injected, the working mixture is enriched, and the engine operates at maximum speed.
The smaller the throttle opening angle, the less air enters the manifold, and the lower the engine speed.
What is a throttle valve?
The throttle valve (VV) is an integral part of the fuel system of a gasoline engine. The main task of the DZ is the dosage of air supply, which enters the cylinders to form a combustible mixture. The throttle body is located after the air filter and before the intake manifold. Simply put, the air valve is an air valve that regulates the air supply. When the throttle valve opens, excess pressure in the intake system disappears; when it closes, negative pressure forms in the system. Every time you press the gas pedal, the throttle opens or closes, since the throttle valve is connected to the throttle cable.
When is it necessary to clean the throttle valve?
It is recommended to clean the remote control every 60-70 thousand km. mileage or if signs of throttle contamination appear.
Signs of a dirty throttle body and the need to clean the throttle body:
- Poor engine starting, stalls while driving;
- Increased crankshaft speed;
- Floating idle speed;
- Jerking while driving at low and medium speeds.
Causes of throttle valve contamination:
- Air. Although it is filtered by an air filter, it still contains dust.
- Oiling and crankcase gases. These two substances form an oily coating on the throttle body, preventing the normal operation of the throttle assembly. The damper begins to open and close poorly (poor response to the gas pedal).
Throttle valve device
The throttle valve itself is a round plate capable of rotating 90 degrees around its axis (from fully closed to fully open). It is installed inside the housing, where its drive, idle air control (IAC) and throttle position sensor are located. All these elements together form the throttle body or throttle assembly. It should be noted that on the VAZ-2109 with an injection engine, the VAZ-2110 and the VAZ- 2115 , the same unit is used.
The design of the throttle body is not as simple as it might seem at first glance. Among other things, it is also part of the engine cooling system. It has channels for coolant circulation. It is also equipped with pipes, one of which is connected to the engine crankcase ventilation system, and the second to the gasoline vapor recovery system.
Throttle position sensor
This sensor is a potentiometer. When you press the gas pedal, the position of the damper and the voltage supplied to the controller changes. When closed, the voltage is 0.7V, when fully open it is 4V. In accordance with these data, the sensor controls the fuel supply.
If a malfunction of the position sensor occurs, the controller will not be able to correctly determine the position of the damper. This results in the following malfunctions:
- in all engine operating modes, the speed begins to fluctuate; at idle, the speed will be increased;
- when you switch off the gear (neutral) while driving, the engine may stall;
- Sometimes the CHECK light may come on.
To check the functionality of the position sensor, you can use a multimeter. With the ignition on, the probes are connected to connectors B and C. Changing the position of the damper should lead to a change in voltage.
Diagnostics and cleaning of IAC
Be sure to check its condition - there should be no dirt on it. Remove the regulator and connect it to the wiring block (the ignition must be on). The rod should retract completely and extend a few millimeters. Visually assess the condition of the device to see if there is any damage to it. Very often, the cause of unstable speed is a weakened or burst spring. In this case, it will need to be replaced. Cleaning the throttle valve on a VAZ-2114, done by yourself, still won’t hurt.
Use a multimeter to measure between contacts 1 and 2 - the resistance should be in the range of 50-80 ohms. If it is slightly different, there is no need to panic. There should be no resistance between the other contacts. To clean the device, you need to use a penetrating lubricant (spray for cleaning carburetors is not suitable, as it melts the plastic). Be sure to treat the contacts - if they are oxidized, voltage will not be supplied. Using a ruler or caliper, measure the distance from the IAC body to the end of the needle - it should be 23 mm, deviations are not allowed.
Damper position sensor
Another device that directly affects the operation of the entire injection system. It is he who makes it clear to the electronic control unit at what angle the damper . There are two types of sensors:
- Resistive, which are based on a simple potentiometer (variable resistor, like on volume controls).
- Encoders are non-contact.
READ High idle speed VAZ 2115
The first type changes the resistance depending on the position of the slider on the active element. In other words, it is contact, so friction does a lot of “dirty tricks”. The active part wears out, as a rule, at the very beginning of the runner's stroke. And at idle the speed will jump - the resistance changes over large intervals.
At speed these symptoms disappear. Contactless devices work much better. If you are cleaning the throttle valve on a VAZ-2114 1.6 8 valves or 16, pay attention to the type of sensor. If it is resistive, then it may have failed or dust may have gotten inside. It is useless to clean and restore; it is better to replace the device. You can only clean it from the outside - you shouldn’t go inside.
Idle air control or sensor?
The symptoms described above may not be caused by dirt, but by a faulty idle air control valve. This is an actuator, so it cannot be called a sensor. Many motorists call it an idle speed sensor - this definition is completely incorrect. A sensor is a device that allows you to measure a certain value (number of revolutions, temperature, pressure, etc.).
And the idle air control (IAC) is a stepper electric motor that opens and closes the channel through which air enters the fuel rail when idling. If you open the throttle valve slightly, the IAC is excluded from the entire operation process. Since the device does not measure anything, it cannot be a sensor.
Removing the throttle assembly for flushing
Cleaning the throttle valve on a VAZ-2114 with E-gas or cable drive is practically no different. To dismantle the throttle assembly, you will need:
- Remove the bellows from the air filter housing.
- Disconnect the pipes that heat the throttle valve.
- Install plugs on the pipes.
- Remove the pipe from the adsorber.
To thoroughly wash the unit, you will need:
- Carburetor cleaning spray, penetrating lubricant such as WD-40 or acetone (solvent 646 or white spirit can be used). Anything that burns will do, even gasoline or diesel fuel.
- Cotton swabs for cleaning, or better yet, an old toothbrush.
- A compressor or at least a pump.
After removing the throttle body, remove the position sensor and idle air control. It is advisable to check their serviceability and replace if necessary.
When to clean the damper
Dust, dirt, and soot from the crankcase settle on the body from the inside and outside. The unit becomes contaminated, and along with this, characteristic symptoms of malfunctions appear.
- Jerking when driving at low speed (the accelerator pedal does not move).
- The crankshaft speed is either too high or varies over a wide range.
- Unstable engine starting.
- The engine stalls immediately after starting.
Similar symptoms are observed in case of malfunctions of the crankshaft sensors, throttle position sensors, and idle speed control. Therefore, before starting cleaning, it is advisable to perform diagnostics, at least with a simple scanner, in order to identify possible breakdowns.
VAZ electronic throttle: design, diagnostics, flushing and repair.
In this material I want to talk about the design, diagnostics and repair of the Delphi electronic throttle valve (pipe), installed on VAZ cars together with the M74 engine management system. The reason for writing this article was one very typical malfunction on a VAZ 2115 with an atypical cause, which I will talk about a little later. I would like to warn you right away that the author of this article does not bear any responsibility for unqualified intervention and repair of the electronic throttle valve in the event of its failure and emergency situations on the road, since repair of this unit is not provided, but only replacement.
Design: An electrically driven throttle valve (pipe) is designed to dose the amount of air entering the intake manifold. Changing the amount of incoming air is achieved by turning the damper with an electric motor, which is controlled by a controller. Main parts of the throttle body: All photos are clickable!
Pavilion 2. Damper3. Gearbox4. Electric motor5. Throttle position sensors.
Removing the throttle assembly: 1. Turn off the ignition, remove the minus terminal from the battery. 2. Unscrew the clamps and remove the intake pipe hose from the throttle body.3. Disconnect the harness block.4. Unscrew the 4 bolts securing the throttle body from the intake manifold and remove it.
Typical faults and their diagnosis. A childhood problem of the first car releases, error P2135 (Mismatch of signals from sensors A and B of the throttle position) manifests itself in the form of unstable idling, speed limit to 2000 and loss of traction. It can be successfully treated by crimping, bending and soldering the contacts of the throttle body block or by replacing the entire electrical wiring harness. On most cars it has been cured for a long time, on new ones it almost never occurs. Floating speed and unstable idle. Here we will dwell in more detail, since this phenomenon is common and appears sooner or later on almost all cars. The main reason here is the mismatch between the throttle opening angle and the amount of incoming air. On most cars it can be treated by washing. It is advisable to wash the throttle valve at least once every 20-30 thousand km. otherwise, deposits of soot and oil particles create obstacles to air movement during idle with all the ensuing consequences. Therefore, the throttle assembly must be kept clean and tidy - this is an axiom. The second reason for floating idle speed is throttle play. How does it manifest itself and how to diagnose it. Below is a screenshot of the SMS diagnostic program. The parameters were taken from a VAZ 2115 with an M74 engine management system.
Here it is worth paying attention to the high air flow, relative filling and injection time. At the same time, the opening angle of the throttle valve is very small and the controller, trying to stabilize the idle speed, drives the ignition timing into the minus. This happens because the actual angle of the throttle valve does not correspond to the angle calculated by the control unit due to backlash. Moreover, if you initialize the throttle, then the engine may work normally for some time, but after some time or after a restart, the situation with the speed floating repeats. It is worth mentioning here that if the throttle is dirty, the parameters will also differ from the norm, with the only difference being that the valve opening angle becomes larger than usual. As an example, here is a screenshot with normal parameters:
How to eliminate play in the throttle valve. To do this, the throttle assembly must be disassembled. From the gearbox side, unscrew 4 screws (Torx 15) securing the cover.
Here we see the gears of the transmission mechanism.
On the other side there are throttle position sensors and an electrical connector. They are fastened with very rare pentagonal Torx screws. Photo below:
We're filming. The electric motor in the housing and the damper axis are visible.
Next, you need to use a press or vice to squeeze out the throttle axis from the TPS side towards the gears.
Remove the axle.
There is no need to remove the electric motor if it is in good condition. You can check it simply by measuring the resistance at the contacts. The resistance should be approximately 10 to 30 ohms.
Below is a photo of all the components of the electric throttle in disassembled form.
The position of the throttle valve, when the electric drive is not engaged, is determined by the position of the spring whiskers between the stops - lugs in the throttle body and is approximately 10% of the opening relative to the closed position.
Play along the axis of rotation of the throttle valve appears due to wear on the aluminum spring stops. Marked with a red arrow:
There are 2 options here: either replacing the throttle assembly, which is not cheap; at the time of writing (September 2013) it costs about 2,500 rubles. Or you can remove the backlash by eliminating the gap between the spring mustache and the body bosses. The essence of the method I propose for eliminating the backlash is to slightly move the spring mustaches by the amount of the gap, by cutting, for example with a needle file, grooves for the mustaches in the plastic stops on the gear itself.
READ Where is the cabin filter on the VAZ 2115
After modification, we check the play by hand. However, it should be taken into account that a slight play of the order of 0.1-0.2 mm along the axis of rotation will still be present due to the loose fit of the spring on the axle bushings.
If everything is in order, we assemble in reverse order. The throttle valve axis is secured against displacement with a tight-fitting washer, photo below:
You can press this washer back onto the axle using a suitable tube or, for example, a 10mm deep socket.
Important note! After repair, replacement of the electronic throttle body, or replacement of the ECM, it is necessary to perform zero adaptation of the throttle position. This is done very simply. The first switching on of the ignition after repair must be accompanied by a delay of at least 30 seconds. During this time, you will hear the electric damper drive turn on, turn the damper until it is completely closed and return it to its original position. After this procedure, the throttle adaptation can be considered completed and the engine can be started. If you did everything correctly, the idle speed will become stable and even.download dle 10.6 movies for free
The throttle valve on the VAZ-2114 must be cleaned if malfunctions are detected. Pollution is characterized by unstable idling (engine speeds sometimes fluctuate within large ranges), increased fuel consumption, and incorrect proportion of the working mixture.
Using a throttle assembly installed directly in front of the intake manifold, the amount of air supplied to the ramp to form the mixture is regulated. He does this using a damper driven by an electric drive or a cable from the accelerator pedal. Similar system designs can be found on new VAZ models - “Tens”, “Priors”, “Nines”, “Grants”.
How to clean the throttle valve
There are a number of special products designed to clean the surface of the throttle valve. Some craftsmen use WD-40, acetone, solvents and other similar compounds for this. In principle, they can be used, but the risk of damaging something inside the engine increases. Today, car dealerships sell a large number of special products for carrying out this procedure. All of them are relatively inexpensive. Therefore, taking into account the fact that the throttle valve does not need to be cleaned so often, any car owner is able to purchase such a product.
Name of the product | Description | average price | Notes |
LIQUI MOLY DrosselKlappen-Reiniger (LM-5111) | The best throttle body cleaner available today. Cleans dirt and oil deposits efficiently. | 520 rub. | Aerosol, volume 400 ml in a cylinder. |

If the malfunctions described above occur, check the condition of the throttle valve. Cleaning it is not very difficult. However, if you clean it, the dynamic characteristics of the car will improve significantly. Therefore, do not forget to regularly clean the damper every 30.50 thousand kilometers. As for cleaning products, use any of the ones listed above. Fortunately, they are inexpensive, so they are available to any car enthusiast.

External cleaning
You can clean the throttle valve on a VAZ-2114 without removing the entire assembly. There is one advantage - you will do all the work very quickly, but you will not be able to clean the inside this way. As a result, the channels in the throttle assembly may remain contaminated, but this will not change the situation - all the symptoms will continue to bother you. External dirt can be easily cleaned. For work, it is best to use a special spray for cleaning carburetors. But keep in mind that it is very aggressive, so it is advisable to work in protective equipment - a respirator and gloves. Do not allow liquid to get on plastic elements - it will corrode them.
Cleaning the throttle valve VAZ 2114, 2115, 2110
The cleaning procedure is as follows:
- Remove the corrugation from the throttle assembly.
- Thoroughly spray all surfaces of the throttle body.
- Wait a little so that the liquid destroys as much dirt as possible.
- Use an old toothbrush to clean all surfaces of the throttle body. For maximum efficiency, manually open the damper slightly.
- Spray again and wipe all surfaces dry with a cloth.
- Reinstall the bellows and start the engine.
The method is simple, but it is unlikely to help get rid of serious stains. Therefore, it is best to completely disassemble the entire assembly and wash it.
Causes of throttle valve contamination
A mixture of air and oil, as well as microscopic dust particles that pass through the air filter from the crankcase ventilation system. When used on a car, this substance slowly covers all internal surfaces, especially in places where there is strong air turbulence, that is, behind the throttle valve, as well as on the idle air control rod. From long-term operation, the thermal gap itself becomes “overgrown” with dirt, and the cross-section of the bypass channel of the idle air regulator in the throttle valve decreases.
Today I will talk about how to clean the throttle valve of a VAZ 2110 with your own hands with a detailed description of the entire process.
Throttle valve malfunctions VAZ 2114
The mechanism itself is not a complex structure and is designed for the entire service life of the engine. However, some design features of the motor and a number of external negative factors, over time, create obstacles to its normal operation. In most cases, problems with the damper are the result of simple contamination. The reasons for the appearance may be the following:
- untimely replacement of the air filter, resulting in the entry of dusty, unpurified air;
- the presence of defects and cracks in the air system and its elements (for example, a defective air filter, a torn pipe), the result is the same - contamination of the air flow;
- the appearance of carbon deposits and oil residues on the inner walls of the throttle assembly and valve.
The result of the above reasons is the incorrect operation of the unit; the damper may not fully open or close, which directly negatively affects the operation of the engine. Although the filtration and air flow purification process can be controlled, it will not be possible to completely get rid of carbon deposits. Therefore, automakers recommend periodic cleaning of the unit from contamination every 25 thousand kilometers. We believe that this recommendation is completely justified in the conditions of Russian reality, the quality of fuel and the condition of the road surface.
Troubleshooting
Before taking any action, you need to check the VAZ 2114 throttle valve for possible problems.
In order to accurately diagnose a malfunction or incorrect operation of the throttle, there are characteristic signs inherent to it. These are:
- Instability of engine speed at idle, their unreasonable increase;
- Periodically stalling engine;
- Jerking while moving;
- The discrepancy between the effort when squeezing the gas pedal and the final result (the proper reaction from the engine does not occur, power does not increase, the car does not pick up speed or does it late).
- Noticeable increase in fuel consumption in standard driving mode.
Please note that the causes of problems can be caused by: - A malfunction of the TPS sensor, as a result of which fuel is supplied to the system in the wrong amount.
— Malfunction of the idle speed controller. Therefore, sometimes it is advisable to check these important elements of the system.
Symptoms of a dirty throttle valve:
The engine has difficulty switching from high speeds to idle when the accelerator pedal is suddenly released. For example, when you brake or coast in neutral. Instead of a smooth return to speed, they rapidly drop to 400-600 per minute, after which, as a rule, the engine stalls with characteristic shaking or with great difficulty is restored to the required speed.
Also, an engine with a dirty throttle assembly has a difficult “cold” start, and in some severe cases, a “hot” start. Before starting such an engine, you have to turn the starter for a long time, and the characteristic smell of gasoline can be heard from the exhaust. However, as soon as you slightly open the throttle several times by briefly pressing the gas pedal, the engine “comes to life” and starts. As a rule, the first few minutes it “troubles” a little. Perhaps the carburetor is tripping for another reason; read about how to adjust the carburetor here.

How to Clean Your Throttle Body - Step-by-Step Guide
The first step is to remove the plastic (decorative) engine cover.
Then you need to unscrew the expansion tank cap in order to reduce the pressure in the cooling system. 3. You need to loosen the clamps (see photo, they are indicated by arrows)
Remove the forced ventilation hose from the air pipe. Carry out a visual inspection if you find traces of oil in the air pipe - most likely the thin forced ventilation channel in the throttle assembly is clogged. If this is so, then all crankcase gases, together with oil particles, go through a large ventilation branch.
Take a screwdriver and loosen the two clamps, then remove the throttle body heating hoses, they can be plugged for a while with something like bad spark plugs.
Remove the hose of the gas tank ventilation system; to do this, you need to unscrew the clamp.
All that remains is to remove the cable and unscrew the two fastening nuts of the throttle assembly.
In the photo you see the removed throttle assembly, no comments necessary.
Step-by-step instruction
Before starting work, purchase a special cleaner for carburetors, and also prepare a set of screwdrivers and a 13mm wrench. If you want to get to the hidden places of the damper, then also take cotton swabs. When disassembling it often turns out that the reservoir o-ring and throttle body gasket are unusable, it is best to replace them at the same time as cleaning, so that later you do not have to waste time disassembling the assembly again. You need to purchase parts based on engine size and number of valves. The gaskets for 1.6 are slightly different than for a motor with other parameters.
- Lift the hood and remove the plastic cover from the engine. If you have not a mechanical, but an electronic damper, which was installed on cars of later years of production, then remove the terminals from the battery and disconnect the electronic damper control chip.
- Disconnect the rubber ventilation hose. This hose is held in place by a clamp, so you will need a screwdriver. If you see dirt in this part of the assembly, wipe the connections and components with a rag.
- To reduce the pressure in the cooling system, remove the liquid supply tubes from the throttle assembly. To do this you will need to loosen the clamps. To prevent dirt from getting into the cooling system, plugs are put on the tubes. There you can do with all the hoses.
- Lastly, remove the fuel tank ventilation hose.
- After this, it is enough to unscrew two bolts and disconnect the accelerator pedal cable to get to the damper.
Examine the part and decide how you will proceed next:
- carry out superficial cleaning without removing the entire assembly;
- completely remove all contaminants, replace the gasket and o-ring.
In the first option, you need to remove a layer of dirt using a rag or cotton pad from the surface of the damper.
In this case, do not use specific cleaning agents - wipe the throttle with gasoline or ordinary solvent. When cleaning, manually adjust the flap to remove dirt not only from the outside, but also from the inside. For complete cleaning, remove the throttle assembly. To do this, it is enough to remove two bolts with a 13mm wrench. In this case, complete cleaning is carried out with special means and consumables are replaced. After you finish work, be sure to blow out the assembly with a stream of compressed air. Thanks to this, you will get rid of excess moisture in the assembly. With complete cleaning, your manipulations take place in a non-confined space, which allows you to put the entire unit in order. This is exactly what is best to do if you are doing routine throttle maintenance. During the complete cleaning, be sure to pay attention to the idle speed sensor - it is best to remove dirt from it using WD40 and cotton swabs.
Now directly about how to clean the throttle valve of a VAZ 2110
Take the previously prepared cleaner and thoroughly clean the throttle valve, including all channels of the assembly. Pay SPECIAL attention to the calibrated positive crankcase ventilation duct; as a rule, it is so coked that you have to use a needle or a steel spoke to clean it.
Unscrew the two bolts and remove the idle air control (IAC). Properly rinse its channel in the throttle body, pay attention to its condition, the service life of the IAC is approximately 100 thousand km. If during the inspection you find that the idle air control rod is very dirty, sticks, has a lot of play or wear, I recommend replacing it with a new one.
If the gasket in the throttle assembly has a “human” appearance, there is no need to change it, but if it is damaged, replace it.
For those who like photos in the “before and after” style, I specially compared two images for greater clarity and demonstration of the work done.
Assembly is carried out in reverse order. That's all there is to cleaning the throttle valve, put everything back together and check the result. The result will be incredible, I can say from personal experience that after I cleaned the throttle valve the car seemed to have been replaced, everything changed, the engine performance, idle speed and sound changed so much that it seemed to me that the engine of my car had been replaced, or I had done something wrong "in the adjustments. While driving, an unprecedented throttle response and sensitivity came from somewhere, the engine began to gain speed faster and “eat” less fuel. The idle speed has stabilized, in short, the result is simply stunning. I hope your throttle valve cleaning was also successful. Thank you for your attention, take care of yourself and your car.

When Cleaning Is Required
The practice of "tens" car owners shows that on these cars the throttle becomes clogged literally just a few years after the start of active use of the car.
The biggest “pests” for the damper are particles of oil, dust and gases coming from the engine crankcase.
When the engine is running, dust mixes with air and oil, forming a kind of mixture that enters the throttle valve. Over time, this substance sticks to surfaces and accumulates on the idle rod.
Soon the thermal gap becomes covered with dirt, and access through the idle air regulator channel is significantly deteriorated. If you do nothing, the engine will begin to work incorrectly, the dynamics will drop, and the engine will respond late to pressing the gas pedal.
According to the recommendations in the operating manual for the domestic ten, the damper should be cleaned after every 50 thousand kilometers traveled. If you clean it in a timely manner, the throttle will last much longer and there will be no problems with the operation of the power unit.
General characteristics
If we consider the throttle assembly as a whole, it will consist of several parts:
- coolant outlet and supply pipes;
- ventilation system tube;
- a sensor that controls the position of the damper;
- RXX;
- the damper itself;
- condensation system pipe.
Knowing the throttle structure and what it looks like is necessary for cleaning. This unit is one of the most important components of the intake system. When the throttle operates correctly, a sufficient amount of air is sent to the engine, which is used to enrich the fuel mixture. The damper is controlled by an electronic gas pedal, which, when pressed, changes the opening angle.
This mechanism is located between the intake manifold and the air filter. Getting to it for preventive cleaning will not be difficult even for someone who has just become a car enthusiast.
To work, you will need to prepare tools and materials for cleaning.
Replacing the throttle valve on VAZ 2113, VAZ 2114, VAZ 2115
Welcome! A throttle valve is a valve that opens and closes, thereby releasing a certain amount of air into a car engine, but in most cases people call the throttle body itself the throttle valve, and this is not correct, so we want to immediately explain to you the fact that we will call this the part is correct, that is, the throttle assembly, and we will just mention the damper in some cases when the matter concerns it, in general, read everything carefully and delve into it and you will understand what we are telling you about.
Note! To replace this damper, you will need: A set of two screwdrivers (In which two screwdrivers will be of different types), as well as an extension cord with a socket head (Without it, there is no point in even proceeding with replacement, so an extension cord is definitely needed, but instead of it you can also use the knob) and you will also need a gasket, which is located between the throttle assembly and the receiver (look for this gasket in a car store, tell the seller the engine of your car and if he understands what you are talking about, he will immediately select the right copy for you, if the gasket If you didn’t find it anywhere, then you can do without it, relying on the fact that your gasket is in good condition), besides all this, you will also need a wrench with which you will remove the minus terminal from the battery!
Where is the throttle assembly and the valve itself? The throttle assembly, which we will explain to you how to replace with a new one, is located in the same place on all VAZ cars; for clarity, we took a photo below, in which the assembly itself is indicated by a blue arrow, and the throttle valve that is located in it is indicated red arrow, over time the assembly gets dirty and dusty, thereby the throttle begins to not work properly, it either closes due to the severity of the dust that lies on it, or opens, therefore on relatively old cars, due to contamination of the throttle assembly, there is a moment when the revolutions float, but this could also be due to its deformation and in general the revolutions may float due to various types of sensors.
When should you change the throttle assembly? It changes when deformed and even if the throttle valve in it can no longer be adjusted even with the help of a cable (By the way, about how to adjust the throttle valve, read the article: “Adjusting the throttle valve on a VAZ”), in addition, we recommend that you do so You can also try to clean the throttle assembly from dirt using a carburetor cleaner; this is not so difficult to do and you don’t need a lot of tools (For more information on how to clean the assembly itself, read the article: “Cleaning the throttle assembly on a car”).
How to replace the throttle assembly on a VAZ 2113-VAZ 2115?
Removal: 1) At the very beginning of the operation, loosen the screw (Indicated by the red arrow) that holds the clamp clamp, which in turn holds the end of the air intake pipe (The end is indicated by the blue arrow), after which disconnect the end of the pipe from the throttle assembly by hand, if you need To interfere with all this is a small crankcase ventilation hose that is connected to the place indicated by the green arrow, then disconnect this hose (As you can see in the photo, this hose is already disconnected), it is disconnected in the same way as the air intake pipe, that is, the screw has been loosened a little and then disconnect the hose, thereby you will provide yourself with access to the throttle assembly itself and it will be much easier to unscrew the nuts securing it.
2) Then disconnect three or four hoses (On some cars there may be three, and on some four, the fourth hose will only be on those cars that are equipped with an adsorber) from the three or four fittings that are located on the throttle assembly, for clarity in the photo below the fittings are indicated by red arrows and the hoses that are connected to them are blue, the hoses are disconnected from the fittings in the same way as the air intake pipe, that is, the screws are loosened and after which the hoses are disconnected, but there is just one caveat, before disconnecting the hoses, be sure to cool drain the liquid from the cooling system (For information on how to drain the coolant, read the article: “Replacing coolant in a VAZ”).
3) Now remove the minus terminal from the battery, to do this, loosen the nut that holds the terminal and then disconnect it (For more details, read point 1, “here in this article”), as soon as the terminal is disconnected, disconnect the cable from the throttle valve sector, to do this, first pry the bracket with a screwdriver so that it does not interfere with removing the cable (indicated by a red arrow) and then disconnect the cable that will pass inside the sector (the place where the cable will pass is indicated by a blue arrow) from this sector, it is attached to it at the very end, Unfortunately, it is not visible in the photo, but the approximate location of where the cable is attached is indicated by a green arrow.
4) After all the operations performed, disconnect the two wire blocks that are attached to both sensors and the sensors, in turn, are located on the throttle assembly (see photos 1 and 2) and after the blocks are disconnected, unscrew the two nuts that secure the throttle assembly to the receiver (see photo 3) and remove the throttle assembly after that (see photo 4), behind the assembly, remove the gasket that is located behind it and which needs to be replaced if damaged, but we recommend constantly changing it when you remove the assembly from the car.
Do-it-yourself cleaning of the throttle valve on a VAZ 2110
The throttle valve is an integral part of almost any car. The domestic masterpiece represented by the VAZ 2110 is no exception.
It is noteworthy that there is no place for a car without a throttle valve, but it is this valve that often causes a lot of trouble to the car owner.
Most often, problems with the throttle manifest themselves in the form of incorrect operation of the gas pedal, strange behavior of revolutions when accelerating or driving on the road. The first thing you need to do is check if everything is fine with the damper.
Unit design
Signs of contamination
Problems with the throttle valve can be identified by characteristic symptoms.
Cleaning the throttle valve VAZ 2114, 2115, 2110
Engine has difficulty returning from high to low speeds
This happens when you take your foot off the gas pedal. Instead of a smooth return to the required parameters, the speed literally drops to the 400 rpm mark. The engine may stall and begin to shake. The speed can return to the desired level, but with difficulty
The engine is difficult to start when cold and even when operating temperature is reached
To start the engine normally, you need to turn the starter for a long time. You can identify the problem by smell. The characteristic aroma of unburned fuel will come from the exhaust pipe. Try pressing the pedal all the way down several times. This will open the throttle fully, air will flow in, and the engine will start. But in the first few minutes the engine will still stall
Troubling the motor is a rather indirect sign, since this is how the engine can behave in various types of failure. But don't rule out problems with the throttle.
When to clean the throttle body
You can find out whether the throttle valve of a VAZ 2114, VAZ 2115 or some other requires washing and cleaning from the following signs:
When you release the gas pedal, the engine does not transition very well from high speeds to low speeds.
Engine speed can drop to 500 per minute and, as a result, the engine stalls or restores normal idle speed.
Difficulty starting the engine in cold weather. Sometimes the engine does not start well when it is warmed up to operating temperature.
If you start the engine in a garage, you can smell gasoline rather than exhaust gases, and you have to crank the engine for a long time with the starter.
If the engine does not start well, it will oscillate and vibrate for the first few minutes. On carburetor engines, the cause of tripping may be the
carburetor. Then it needs to be configured, disassembled, washed.
The engine jerks at low crankshaft speeds.
The main cause of contamination is a mixture of air and oil or dust particles that enter through the air filter.
This mixture covers the inner surface of the throttle valve, especially in its moving part.
The idle speed control rod becomes clogged, the thermal gap decreases, which reduces the throughput of the channel.
In general, this entire process, that is, cleaning the throttle valve of the VAZ 2114, must be done when the engine has already cooled down.
- You will need screwdrivers to remove the clamps.
- Thirteen socket wrench.
- Flushing fluid for carburetors, or another one is possible.
In order to thoroughly wash and clean this unit, you will have to remove it from the engine, and possibly partially disassemble it.
Repair work
Now to the question of how the cleaning procedure is performed. For everything to go smoothly and without problems, it is enough to prepare all the necessary materials and tools in advance, place everything at hand and get to work.
To clean the throttle you will need:
- Screwdriver Set;
- 13mm wrench;
- Throttle valve cleaner.
Specialized preparations made from appropriate components are sold specifically for these purposes. Do not spare money on their purchase, since the funds will last for a long time. This is more profitable than changing the damper every time.

Hello, why turn on the ignition when you remove the stamp on the battery?
What engine, 1.5 or 1.6? The thing is that I found a description on the internet on how to clean the remote control, but the author writes that after cleaning it is necessary to change the remote control gasket for 1.5 or the receiver O-ring for 1.6, but I couldn’t find what this ring looks like anywhere
I’m interested in the real time from start to finish that the author spent on all the work just on “cleaning the throttle assembly”! PS I just changed the screen on the fuel pump yesterday, I won’t write how... the time I spent was clearly not 40 minutes... 6 hours
If we take into account only cleaning the throttle, then it takes 15 minutes to remove it, 15 minutes to put it back. Well, the cleaning time itself ranges from 20 minutes to an hour (depending on the contamination).
I found something else, but I didn’t try to do it myself, I limited myself to just cleaning the remote control.#
Can you guys give me some advice? I found a small hole in my exhaust hose (going from the bottom to the lid), so can air leak through this hole or not? And how will this affect the car in general?
Great report. I'll do the same at my place on the weekend. I haven’t climbed there at all for 5 years.
There is also a problem with revolutions, when switching from any speed to neutral, the revolutions begin to float, dropping to 600-500. I think I'll start with cleaning
Okay, we'll have to do the same operation.
