The quality of roadway lighting (roadway and shoulder) is the main requirement for ensuring safe driving of a vehicle. The sooner the driver notices an obstacle on the vehicle’s path, the more time he has to make a decision and the less likely he is to get into an emergency situation. To avoid troubles with driving in the dark, you should carefully select low beam bulbs. Today we will figure out which H7 low beam lamps are the best.
Types of cars
The modern market offers a wide variety of automotive lamps. They are divided into several types:
- halogen - the most common models, characterized by low cost. They are characterized by strong heating during operation, which leads to rapid failure.
- xenon - modern models with a high degree of light output; the disadvantages of xenon models include the high price and the need to additionally install a special ignition unit.
- LED - lamps of a new generation, economical, environmentally friendly, with a long service life. They are distinguished by their high cost and the need for proper adjustment when installed in a regular headlight, which is why they have not yet become widespread among car owners.
Below we present the best lamps in the h7 socket for low beam in a car. For ease of comparison, we will divide our rating into several subgroups.
Marking
By reading the lamp labeling, any car owner can get maximum information about it. This way you can find out the type of base, type of connection plug, power, voltage and operating current. As a rule, markings are applied to the lamp base. Based on the information received, you can decide on the type of lamp that will suit the requirements of your car. The following types of lamps are distinguished:
- H1 – single-filament lamps for any type of optics.
- H2 – lamps for head lighting (low/high beam).
- H3 – lamps for fog lights.
- H4 – double-filament headlight lamps.
- H7 – lamps for cars with four headlights (usually used for high beam).
A few words about xenon
Halogen and LED lamps do not yet reach the power of modern xenon lighting elements, so why not use more durable (up to 2500 hours) lamps?
Of course, xenon has one undeniable advantage. Such lamps convert only 7% of the energy into heat, while halogen lamps convert only 40%! This means that almost all of the electrical energy expended is converted into a powerful luminous flux. But, alas, this is only one side of the coin. In fact, the use of such lamps is unprofitable for several reasons:
- The cost of xenon is several times higher than halogen and LED lamps. This is due to the fact that such lighting will require additional equipment (the minimum kit includes a lamp and an ignition unit, the full kit includes optics, a headlight, and much more). Lamps of this type themselves cost about 10,000 rubles.
- Not all xenon can be used in the Russian Federation; more precisely, only the one that was installed at the car manufacturer’s plant can be used. You can easily get a fine for “handicraft” Chinese analogues, and when you undergo maintenance, you will have to get rid of the prohibited lighting.
- Xenon units use quite a lot of energy from the generator, and accordingly, fuel consumption increases.
Xenon
Xenon lamps are a more modern option than halogen lamps. They are resistant to vibrations and shaking. At the same time, they are able to produce a luminous flux that is as close as possible to natural daylight.
"Xenon" is able to illuminate the road in any weather conditions, which has a positive effect on the safety of the driver and passengers. OF the disadvantages: not all standard optics are suitable for installing xenon bulbs.
To adapt factory headlights on older car models, you will need to install an ignition unit, which over time can damage the lighting system.
BOSCH Xenon Blue 1987301013 H7 12V 55W - bright daylight
Light bulbs that, unlike most similar models, do not emit a blue glow.
The model has a correctly directed beam of light, which provides good visibility even in conditions of minimal visibility, during heavy rain, or in thick fog. The lamps are produced at a factory in Hungary, which indicates the absence of defects.
Advantages:
- lifetime;
- German quality.
Flaws:
- Some vehicles require optics upgrades.
The best H7 halogen lamps: xenon effect
Next, in the rating of the best H7 car lamps from Expertology, we will look at a group of interesting technological solutions - halogen lamps with xenon effect. Our experts recommend four models from different brands: Mtf-Light, Osram, Philips and Hella.
Mtf-Light Palladium H7
Rating: 4.9
This group opens with a lamp of the Russian brand and South Korean production Mtf-Light Palladium H7. This is an excellent solution for individual tuning of car optics and, in this particular case, for “admirers” of xenon. Produced at Namyung Co. factories. Ltd. (South Korea).
The manufacturer himself characterizes the luminous flux from a halogen lamp as “crystal blue”. Actually, this is largely true - the color temperature of the beam is 5500K. Experts do not forget to emphasize that these halogen lamps are perfectly combined with “real” xenon lamps with a color temperature of 6000K.
The manufacturer managed to achieve high aesthetic and performance characteristics due to the special composition of the glass, multilayer interference coating and special spraying. The halogen lamps of this model reliably block ultraviolet radiation and are completely safe for plastic headlights.
The energy characteristics of this model are standard for this type of automobile lamps: power supply – 12V, power consumption – 55W. They fully comply with all relevant European standards and relevant Russian requirements. Supplied in blister packs, 2 pieces per set.
Advantages
- pleasant, even, crystal blue light;
- reliability and durability;
- safety for plastic headlights;
Flaws
- up to 15%! reduction in luminous flux compared to analogues due to spraying.
Osram Cool Blue Intense H7
Rating: 4.8
The rating continues with a halogen lamp from the famous German company Osram. Already in the nomenclature itself there is a hint of “intense”, “cold” and “blue” light. The first two positions are fine, but as for the blue tint, here the manufacturer is slightly disingenuous, since in fact the color of the beam is white - this is confirmed by numerous reviews from real customers.
Otherwise, the characteristics of the product are quite decent. The halogen lamp produces bright, high-contrast light that is pleasing to the eye and close to natural. The color temperature is 4000K, that is, the light is really “cold”, like xenon, but it still has little in common with the promised blueness.
Compared to standard halogen lamps, this model demonstrates 20% more intense brightness. It is characterized by excellent contrast of illumination of the road surface itself, markings and signs. Another plus is the special design of the lamp with a silver dome. This model is ideal for headlights with clear lenses.
The connection parameters are standard – voltage 12V, power consumption – 55W.
Advantages
- +20%! to brightness compared to standard lamps;
- optimized design;
- good contrast;
- light close to daylight;
Flaws
- not the most durable.
- no declared blueness;
Philips CrystalVision
Rating: 4.7
Next in the ranking is a very popular model of car lamps with xenon effect from Philips. They produce bright, white, even light with a subtle bluish tint. Color temperature – 4300K. Compared to standard lamps, this model adds about 30% to the brightness of head lighting. Designed to equip low and high beam headlights. Supplied in sets in blister packs of 2 pieces.
The lamp bulb is made using proprietary Philips technology - reinforced quartz glass with optical polishing and an ultraviolet filter. The cap is gray, the base is chrome-plated. The power supply is standard for this type of halogen lamps - voltage 12V, power consumption - 55W.
Expertology experts recommend halogen lamps of this model for all weather conditions. At night, visual comfort compared to standard lamps is especially noticeable due to range, brightness and contrast.
Like all other Philips products for equipping automotive optics, Philips CrystalVision have all the necessary certificates of the European standards ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and QSO 9000, and also comply with Russian requirements and regulations.
Advantages
- smooth, bright, rich white light;
- good contrast at night and visibility of small objects;
- one third brighter than “standard” lamps;
Flaws
- On low beam headlights, according to user reviews, the service life is noticeably reduced.
Hella Cool Blue H7
Rating: 4.6
And this group of our rating is closed by a halogen lamp from the German brand Hella with an H7 base. This is the most ordinary technological solution in this group, not remarkable for anything “fantastic”, but our experts still decided to include this model in the review due to its main advantage - its affordable price.
We recommend: Flushing the engine cooling system - 6 popular methods for quick and high-quality cleaning
This model is part of the Standard series of halogen lamps from this manufacturer. Despite all the “standard”, users are almost unanimous in their high assessment of its service life. It is mainly equipped with low and high beam headlights, and much less often with fog lights.
The halogen lamp gives a very good, even and powerful light output with a color close to daylight. But it’s precisely in terms of the xenon effect that this model is balancing on the brink. So, for those car enthusiasts who need a clearly defined xenon effect, it is better to look at another model on our list.
The energy indicators of a halogen lamp are standard for this class: the required voltage is 12V, power consumption is 55W. Supplied for sale in a minimalistic cardboard box, the set includes the lamp itself (1 pc.) and brief instructions in different languages.
Advantages
- increased service life;
- very affordable price.
Flaws
- The xenon effect is minimal.

Which H7 lamps are preferable to install on cars?
Let's do a little analysis of the characteristics of H7 low beam lamps. Our rating includes products from various manufacturers, with different light indicators: both with normal light output and with increased light output. We will not go into an in-depth study of the issue, but will touch on the main indicators that are understandable to any car enthusiast.
For clarity of the data presented, it should be noted that according to GOST of the Russian Federation and European road safety standards, the following indicators of luminous flux standards for car headlights have been established:
- lower limit 1350 lm;
- upper 1650 lm.
So, let's begin. The first number will be the products that are currently leading in terms of key indicators.
OSRAM NIGHT BREAKER unlimited
A lamp that meets all necessary standards provides high-quality illumination of all necessary areas of the road
Country of origin: Germany. This lamp emits a powerful light stream of 1500 lm . The spectral color approaches natural daylight and does not tire the driver's eyes. The beam range of the lamp is 10 meters longer than a conventional halogen lamp, which increases the likelihood of safe driving. The approximate amount of electrical power consumption is 50.4 W. It is necessary to note one small drawback of this lamp: the indicators for glare of passing and oncoming traffic are slightly overestimated.
BOSCH Plus 90
One of the most worthy representatives of this series of automobile lamps
The halogen lamp from Bosch has proven itself well in all respects. Luminous flux – 1490 lm, high-quality light close to daylight, the human eye reacts well to it . The lamp provides excellent illumination of the right side of the road (side of the road), both in the near and far zones. As for the blinding of car drivers driving in the oncoming lane, all indicators are normal, and the same result is for passing traffic.
HELLA H7 +90%!
Hella is a budget version of Philips products, practically in no way inferior to its famous relatives
The company that produces these headlights is a subsidiary of Philips, and the brand speaks for itself. This light source has excellent performance; the average luminous flux is fixed at 1400 lm . According to all regulatory requirements, it meets European standards and at the same time has an advantage in the price-quality category. Any driver will be satisfied with the lighting performance of the road section. A headlight equipped with a H7 +90 Hella lamp does not pose a risk of blinding for drivers of passing and oncoming traffic.
PHILIPS Vision Plus +60%!
60% better! Better illumination of the road, does not transmit UV radiation, reasonable price
Philips products, as always, turned out to be excellent. The luminous flux of the lamp is 1450 lm, this is a pretty good indicator . Everything is fine with the road illumination zones. The Philips Vision +60% lamp does not cause problematic glare to oncoming drivers. Electricity consumption is approximately 54 W.
This product is manufactured using quartz glass.
PHILIPS X-treme Vision +100%!
The lamp was created using new technology and is designed for high-quality bright illumination of the road
The indicators indicated by the manufacturer, indicating a 100% superiority of the luminous flux of Philips X-treme Vision lamps +100% over conventional lamps, turned out to be somewhat exaggerated. In fact, the luminous flux is 1400 lm, which is almost the same as the budget versions of Philips H7 lamps . Almost all other indicators of this product were normal, but lower than expected. The only data that exceeded the permissible requirements was the indicator at point 0 (zone III) - blinding of the driver of the car in front through the rear view mirror.
OSRAM SILVERSTAR 2.0
The lamp illuminates the road 65% brighter, the range of the light beam has been increased by 20 meters, an excellent light source with an extended warranty period
The German manufacturer of these lamps established a 3-year warranty on the product, that is, they wanted to emphasize its quality. As for the light characteristics, they are really impressive - the light flux is 1490 lm, which is almost at the level of OSRAM NIGHT BREAKER unlimited . But I would like the lighting in the near and far zones of the right side of the road to be stronger. Although these indicators are within the acceptable limits, as, indeed, is the indicator of blinding of the driver of passing and oncoming traffic. The advantages of the lamp include the fact that the light beam from it is 20 meters longer in comparison with standard products.
VALEO +50%!Light
The light source fully meets all the parameters declared by the manufacturer. Brightness increased by 50%!, beam length by 15%!
Valeo manufacturers claim that the lamp emits brighter light, allowing better illumination of the roadway and roadside. The low beam lamp showed an average light flux of 1400 lm . The digital data obtained when checking the glare indicators of the driver of an oncoming car and the driver of the vehicle driving ahead are normal. You can note a slight increase in the power of current consumption, which is associated with an increase in the brightness of the light source.
PHILIPS Vision +30%!
High-quality, affordable lamps, the main thing is to be able to use this lighting device correctly
Philips Vision +30%! is made using quartz glass, which allows the internal gas pressure in the lamp bulb to be increased to 15 atmospheres. This solution increases the service life of the tungsten filament.
The average luminous flux indicators are recorded within 1350 lm . All other indicators fell within the framework of European standards. The main condition for installing this light emitter, as well as any similar lamp, is the correct adjustment of the car's headlights in order to avoid blinding the driver of oncoming traffic.
KOITO Whitebeam III
This lamp greatly dazzles the driver of the car in front.
The Japanese know how to surprise. Despite the fact that the average luminous flux of the Kyoto WhiteBeam III lamp was not up to par, only 1150 lm (the norm is 1350), the roadside lighting, especially the far zone, exceeds all expected limits and goes far beyond the standards . Another indicator – zone III (dazzle of the driver through the rearview mirror of a vehicle driving in front) – is several times higher than the permissible parameters.
The quartz glass used in the lighting fixture absorbs UV rays, making it safe to use the bulb in polycarbonate headlights.

Philips
The Dutch concern is known for many things, and to a large extent – for its work in the field of lighting technology, both halogen and gas-discharge. Few people know, but the currently popular energy-saving lamps were developed by Philips.
In the automotive lighting industry, Philips is one of the main suppliers of lamps and optics to factory conveyors, and a huge range of halogen, xenon and LED lamps is produced for the secondary market.
Bosch
A German giant that produces a huge range of various automotive components - from engine control units to spark plugs. Its developers also paid attention to automotive lighting.
Speaking about Bosch products, it is impossible to say anything more briefly and succinctly than the Germans themselves: “Bosch ist Bosch” (“Bosch is Bosch”).
Narva
The youngest of the manufacturers we mentioned, but this does not make the company’s products of lesser quality. The production of automotive halogen lamps began in 1969, and since then this brand has become one of the most popular due to its good price-quality ratio.
“True German quality” is not just a figure of speech. The truth of this phrase is proven by the popularity of Narva lamps, which does not fall over time.

The best lamps in the H4 base
If we talk about which H4 low beam lamps are the best, then we should rely primarily on the glow power. If you do not leave the city, it is better to take 60 W bulbs, and for country trips 130 W.
Important! Lamps with a power of more than 60 W are prohibited from being used in urban areas.
As for the choice between halogen and LED lamps, it’s worth saying right away that although LED lighting elements are more economical, they are not suitable for headlights designed for H4 halogens.
Firstly, in order for an LED bulb to be comparable in light output to a halogen lamp, its size will be much larger, and if you use a compact model, then you will get very little light output from it - a vicious circle.
Secondly, if you install LED analogues in headlights for H4 halogens, their beam will be out of focus, the light will become blurry, because of this, in turn, the illumination of the roadway will significantly deteriorate.
Thirdly, a large number of LEDs will result in the semiconductors not being cooled.
Healthy! Automakers are developing special diode headlights, but have not yet been able to solve the cooling system issues for such elements.
Therefore, in order to achieve the best performance, it is recommended to use high-brightness H4 halogen lamps for cars from trusted manufacturers.
As for H7 lamps, they also have their own characteristics.
Difference between lamp h7 and h4
Both types are intended for head lighting. The h7 lamp was released later than the h4, so it is ahead of it in some technical characteristics. As an example, let's take the criterion of work duration. For h7 it will be twice as large as for h4.
The width of h4 will be significantly wider than h7. The differences between the light bulbs include the fact that h4 has two spirals, and h7 is a single-filament lighting element.
The devices also have differences in the design of the base.
Best H7 Bulbs with Long Lifespan
Finally, the last group in our rating is halogen lamps with an increased resource, which have a noticeably longer service life compared to “mass” models. Their advantages are obvious, and this parameter becomes especially noticeable when operating in winter, when the headlights are constantly on, regardless of the time of day. In this section, Exprtology experts identified two bright (in every sense) models, both manufactured by Philips.
Osram Ultra Life H7
Rating: 4.9
Already from the nomenclature name of this model it becomes clear that the emphasis in it is on the longest possible service life. And here the German manufacturer not only declares its own success, but also confirms it with quite material things - the official warranty period for this model is three years! Experts estimate the average “lifetime” of these lamps in the equivalent of up to 100 thousand kilometers of a car.
As for their purpose, these lamps, like most other H7 standard halogens, are equipped with low and high beam headlights and fog lights.
The power consumption of Osram Ultra Life H7 is 55W, and with this consumption it produces a luminous flux of 1550 lm. This is not the most outstanding indicator, but, do not forget, the emphasis in this model is not on brightness. Operating voltage – 12V. The flask is not painted, made of high-quality quartz glass with ultraviolet blocking properties.
The halogen lamp is intended for passenger cars only. Supplied in plastic packaging, the set includes two lamps.
Advantages
- the durability indicators declared by the manufacturer are completely true;
- 3 years official warranty from the manufacturer.
Flaws
- A little dull according to some users.
Philips Long Life H7
Rating: 4.8
And the last point in our rating, it also closes the group of “long-lasting” halogen lamps. This is the latest development from Philips - the model is directly called Long Life. The nomenclature also contains the wording EcoVision, which hints at the environmental friendliness of this model. This translates into more efficient energy consumption. Innovative technologies used by the manufacturer have increased energy efficiency by as much as 20% compared to ordinary stock models.
As for the main advantage of this model, its resource is increased four times compared to conventional halogens. This means, according to the manufacturer, that it is quite possible to travel up to 100 thousand kilometers with one set of lamps. This figure is comparable to the previous long-lived lamp model from Osram.
In the design of the product, Philips uses its proprietary quartz glass with optical polishing, which reliably blocks ultraviolet radiation. It uses a chrome base, like most other H7 halogen lamps from Philips.
The power consumption of a halogen lamp is 55W, operating voltage is 12V. The halogen lamp produces white-yellow bright light with a color temperature of 3100K.
Advantages
- increased energy efficiency;
- four times longer service life compared to standard lamps.
Flaws
- not noted.
Attention! This rating is subjective in nature, is not an advertisement and does not serve as a purchase guide. Before purchasing, consultation with a specialist is required.

- It perfectly illuminates not only the oncoming lane, but also the right side of the road.
Flaws:
- Towards the end of the operating period, there is a slight loss of illumination along the traffic lane.
Lamp Narva Standard H7
Bosch H7 Pure Light
Almost every person in the world knows the products from this German company. The luminous flux of this lamp is average, but it is quite enough to safely move at a very high speed in the absence of lighting. The lamp produces a warm yellowish light, which will be very useful in conditions of precipitation, including even fog. The distribution of light flux here is quite uniform. The products included in this series are characterized by an average service life and do not withstand high voltages very well.
The lamp can easily withstand significant vibration and shaking. The natural aging of the thread is quite slow, so the product can last much longer compared to other similar products. The lamp efficiently illuminates the oncoming lane, but its capabilities are not enough to fully illuminate the side of the road.
Advantages:
- Quite reasonable cost;
- High quality workmanship;
- Quite a decent work resource.
Flaws:
- Unable to fully illuminate the roadside.
Bosch H7 Pure Light lamp
Osram Original 64210
Products from this Japanese company are truly considered the best in the world for a number of important reasons. First of all, the lamps are characterized by an optimal price-quality ratio. The products are not too cheap, but have an extended service life. They illuminate a section of the path quite efficiently - the power of the light flux is such that it will be visible about 70 meters ahead. This indicator is enough to drive safely at relatively high speeds.
The lamps withstand high voltage well: they do not begin to overheat, and their service life is not reduced as a result. The products even withstand shaking on rough roads. The light distribution of such bulbs fully complies with existing standards and requirements, the opening angle of the luminous flux is significant, which allows high-quality illumination even of the roadside. The lamp is made of high-quality tempered glass of increased strength; dust, dirt, moisture, and so on will not get under it.
Advantages:
- Fully complies with all required standards;
- Quite a significant working resource;
- Optimal price-quality ratio of the model;
- Dense, but fairly wide luminous flux - the oncoming lane and the side of the road are clearly visible.
Flaws:
- Not detected.

How to choose the best H7 lamp
This type was developed for low beam headlights and is used in many cars. The quality of this type of product must comply with ECE 37, this is an international quality standard unified for all countries. Products sold in Russia must be checked for compliance with GOST; a confirming marking or sticker must be on the packaging.
The H7 lamp is easily distinguished by its wide skirt with a cutout and two protruding contacts.
When purchasing, you should give preference to well-known companies. The price should not be too low; savings on light bulbs will affect the quality of lighting and operating life. There is no need to buy products in markets and near roads, as they often sell counterfeits under the guise of original products. To make it easier to understand the issue, study the main symbols that are applied to the packaging:
- Mark +30%, +80%, +120% , etc. indicates increased brightness levels. Such options provide high-quality light that is superior to standard. But it is necessary to take into account that the spiral in products heats up more, so its service life is shorter.
- The inscription “All-Weather” is on boxes with universal lamps. They provide normal light in different weather conditions and are recommended for cars that do not have separate fog lights. In addition, this option works much better in the rain.
- If a halogen lamp is marked "Xenon" , this means a higher color temperature. The light in this case is white, which resembles xenon and improves visibility. Differences in color temperature, the most comfortable light is provided by lamps in the range from 4000 to 6500 K. A higher color temperature distorts color rendition, the light gives off a blue color.
- The marking “DayLong” or “LongLife” suggests that these are light bulbs with an extended service life. They are suitable for those who use low beams in the daytime as navigation lights. Typically, the service life of such products is one and a half to two times longer. Some manufacturers guarantee performance for at least 4 years.
Most often, all the necessary information about light bulbs is on the packaging.
Many sellers suggest installing LED lamps instead of halogen lamps as a better and more durable alternative. But this can only be done if the design of the headlight is suitable for diode light sources (must be marked “LED” or “L”. In other cases, the effect of use will be unpredictable, since the luminous flux of LEDs is distributed differently than that of a halogen. In addition , a fine of 500 rubles may be issued for this.
Xenon lamps can be installed in headlights only if such were provided for in the design. Most often, you need to re-equip the headlight and install a special lens or change the entire part. Homemade xenon does not provide normal light quality and cannot be adjusted. In addition, installation of such lighting is subject to deprivation of rights for up to 1 year.
results
Our forecasts came true only partly. Not only the improved lamps failed, but also all the others. No one worked 500 hours.
The conclusion is sad: purchasing a reliable light bulb has turned into a lottery. During the tests, we did not notice any dependence of the resource on the authority of the brand. And we still recommend purchasing the simplest lamps, without any “tuning” and alluring “additional interest”. True, there are also light bulbs on sale with an increased resource - Long Life. We plan to check them separately.

Comparative tests were carried out using a single stand, on which two copies of H7 lamps of each sample were mounted. During testing, the supplied voltage did not exceed the maximum permissible value for this type of lamp (14.5 V). All lamps worked until they burned out.
If we take the approximate operating time of a car lamp until failure is 500 hours, then we can conclude that the quality of the presented car lamps is unsatisfactory. Even the best samples (Nord Yada, Fenox) on average do not show even half of the required resource.
Prestigious electricityThe very first cars had no headlights at all: the thought of traveling at night never occurred to anyone. Then kerosene lamps appeared: they could not illuminate the road, but they indicated the car itself on the road! At the end of the 19th century, acetylene headlights appeared - like on steam locomotives. And electric headlights came in the 20th century - one of the first cars equipped with them was the famous Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost. |
Have a safe journey and may your lamps never dim!
