How to disable the “Valet” mode on the Scher-Khan Magicar 5 alarm system

When transferring a car with a Sherkhan alarm system to a service station or car wash, you must disable the security system.

Otherwise, a false alarm will prevent the maintenance personnel from doing their job properly.

It is prohibited to give the car alarm key fob to the service center employees, as this increases the risk of car theft. To temporarily deactivate the security system, the car owner should understand what valet mode is and how to turn it on and off if necessary.

Once the valet mode is activated, the alarm will disable most of its functions. In this case, for example, you can lock and unlock the locks of the iron horse using the key fob.

It is not recommended to use this mode for daily use of the car, since in this case the car’s ability to resist theft is minimal.

Principle of operation

Sherhan brand car alarms have an automatic security activation function that locks the doors 30 seconds after the last limit switch is closed. When handing over the car for service or washing, you must either disable the parameter or leave the keys with the key fob to the employee. There is a special function to temporarily disable the head alarm module of the Scher-Khan Magicar 5, which is activated by pressing the buttons on the key fob.

This Valet mode is displayed on the communicator display with the Zzz icon. When the function is active, it is impossible to enable vehicle protection or program codes for additional transmitters. After the car is released from the service, the buttons are pressed again, activating the normal operation of the complex. This alarm mode is not recommended for everyday use, as it increases the likelihood of car theft.

The Sherkhan 5 alarm system, when the Valet function is active, supports the operation of the central locking; additional channels for controlling the trunk lock are disabled. When activating Valet on Sherkhan 7, it is possible to adjust the operation of additional channels (using buttons on the remote control), and the function of operating the power unit with a supercharger (turbo timer) is supported. The Sherkhan 10 modification uses similar head unit software; the driver controls locks, additional channels and changes the state of the turbo timer function.

What is valet mode, what is it, enabling and disabling the mode Category: Articles | Date published: January 9, 2021 | No comments Understanding all the technical details of a car is a long and unnecessary task. Modern cars are constantly being improved, and even budget cars now break down much less often than expensive cars 20-30 years ago. If a breakdown occurs, it is enough to call a specialist, and not learn how the machine works and how to repair it yourself.

However, there are situations when the electronics malfunction, and fixing them is a mere trifle, but the driver does not even know about it. For example, a malfunction in the car’s security system, when the alarm screams incessantly and does not respond to the control panel. To turn it off, just switch the alarm to Valet mode.

What is Valet mode Valet mode is a service mode that is used to disable the main protective functions of the car. It is necessary when repairing a car, and in older systems it is also necessary for making adjustments. The mode button is usually hidden from prying eyes, and most often it is located near the steering wheel.

You can also turn it on using the key fob.

How to turn on Valet mode Turn on the Valet mode using the button in the cabin Turn the ignition key to start the car, and then turn it off.

Count 10 seconds and switch the switch to Valet mode.

Where is the Valet button?

Scher-Khan security systems do not have a separate Valet button, which puts the equipment into programming mode. On equipment from other manufacturers there is a special switch, which is located under the instrument panel or on the processor unit. To enable the service function on the Sherkhan 5, 7, 10 alarm system, you need to disarm the car, and then briefly press keys 1 and 3 located on the end of the communicator.

After pressing the keys, the car emits a short siren signal, which is accompanied by a flash of external lights. On all car alarms, the control diode located in the signal sensor to the owner lights up continuously. A light signal notifies the driver and service station personnel that the security system is in sleep mode. The icon for the headlights and the security mode status flashes 5 times on the communicator; an additional short signal is given by the buzzer.

It is possible to activate the function on the Magicar 7 product without using a communicator:

  1. After the security mode is released, press the call sensor multi-function switch for 2 seconds.
  2. You should wait for the lights to flash.
  3. After the light signal, a 5-second timer is activated; the owner needs to briefly press the toggle switch. An impulse is given by external lamps, and the control diode goes into rapid flashing mode.
  4. Enter 1 digit of the password into the memory of the central unit. Programming is carried out in short pulses, the interval between impacts does not exceed 1.5 seconds. 4 seconds are allotted to enter the number; if the driver does not fit within the time limit, the procedure begins again.
  5. Wait for the control diode to blink rapidly, and then program the second register.
  6. Using a similar scheme, enter the 3rd and 4th password fields.
  7. After entering the last digit, a 5-second timer is activated, the driver briefly presses the sensor button. You can pause for 5 seconds, then the Valet mode will be automatically activated.
  8. Wait for the siren to sound, confirming that the Valet function has been activated. Simultaneously with the sound signal, the vehicle's external light alarm is activated.

On the Magicar 5 system, it is possible to enable the Valet parameter during an emergency disarming of the security mode. The driver opens the door and the alarm mode starts at the same time. The key is turned three times in the lock from one extreme position to the other, then the ignition circuit is deactivated. Turning off the alarm is accompanied by the start of a 4-second starter lock disabling timer, then the equipment goes into the “Jack” state.

The additional Valet mode used during the programming process is set by a long complex press on buttons 1 and 4 or 2 and 4. The car will sound a single beep with a siren and flash the hazard lights; the communicator display does not show any additional symbols. Then the car owner makes the necessary adjustments in accordance with the tables and recommendations given in the operating instructions.

How to disable Valet mode on Sherkhan alarm system

To turn off the Valet function, press keys 1 and 3 again. Acceptance of the command will be confirmed by a double signal with a beep and lights, and the indicator will go out. The output is confirmed by a duplicate beep in the communicator, and the corresponding icon will turn off on the display. Using a similar method, it is possible to remove the mode on Magicar 5, 7 or 10 equipment.

To disable the Valet function on Sherkhan Magikar 7 or 10 without a communicator, you need to apply current to the ignition circuit. After power appears in the security system circuit, the button mounted on the owner’s call sensor is pressed for 2 seconds. The sound of a double beep when turning off is determined by the value of the parameter programmed when setting up the central unit. Accordingly, the external lighting equipment will work 2 times, and the icon on the screen will turn off.

It is impossible to exit Valet mode on Magicar equipment using other methods. Since the security system has a non-volatile memory, turning off the power does not reset the settings or reset the programmed parameters. If problems arise with controlling the “Valet” function, it is recommended to take the car to a service center to diagnose the components of the security equipment.

The choice is made by installing jumpers. A table with car models, where the corresponding numbers are indicated, is printed on the body of the main module.

Alarm repair Sher-Khan Magicar 5 — Subaru Impreza, 2.0 l., 2001 on DRIVE2

Hi all. I haven’t written for a long time because I don’t do anything except constantly remove the rear wheels and try to understand what is rustling there when driving.

I don’t have any photos of myself, as I took everything apart outside, it was cold, I didn’t have time for photos)

Recently I decided to take care of my alarm system, which did not work when I bought it and, as it turned out, did not work for the previous owner either. The symptoms are: 1. The blue diode2 on the call sensor (round) is lit. The car does not respond to the remote control

3. There is an empty antenna on the key fob when you press the buttons

I wasn’t happy that there was a signaling system, but it was of no use, and I was tired of constantly having to close everything with the key and running around to check whether the doors were closed or not. In general, I started ringing all the contacts on the unit, the antenna and the call unit, everything works and when you turn on something according to the manual, voltage appears where it is needed. I decided that the alarm had forgotten the key fob, opened the manual and decided to register it. So, according to the manual, you need to turn the key from the OFF position to the ON position 3 times within 4 seconds, after which the car should blink the emergency lights 3 times. I did it - no reaction. It was a complete stupor, there is power, the unit is showing signs of life, there is power and signals on the antenna. In general, I had to go to the Internet, where nothing was found except my one symptom: The blue diode on the call sensor is burning - Valet mode is turned on.

This was the reason for the zero response to the attempt to program the key fob. I opened the instructions and started looking for how to turn off the Valet mode on this alarm, and there’s a paradox here: it can only be turned off from the key fob, but the key fob doesn’t work for us.

Well, further on, I found a suggestion on the Internet that if you connect all the contacts to the alarm unit and turn on the ignition, this mode will turn off. So I decided to try, but again it didn’t work out. And then in the manual I read that this jack is turned on by 10 hits on the call sensor. And then bingo:

Using this pinout we provide the pros and cons on this plug

then we turn on the ignition, and with the ignition on, we hit the call sensor 10 times (each hit it will blink red) and voila, the emergency lights blink 3 times and indicate that Valet is turned off. Well, after that we program the key fob according to the manual and that’s it.

So, if something doesn’t work for you, don’t rush to throw it away or replace it, everything can be much simpler. In my case, I saved 8 thousand for this alarm and got a working autostart, turbo timer, hands-free mode and a normally functioning alarm. By the way, perhaps this method works on the alarm system of the same company Magicar V, Magicar A, Magicar 6, Magicar 7. I hope this will be very useful for someone, since I was unable to find anything worthwhile on the Internet regarding such problems.
