The car interior heater (stove) is intended not only to create comfortable conditions for the driver and passengers in cold weather. Its role is also to ensure proper visibility by blowing warm air onto the windshield, removing frost and moisture from it. In severe frost, you are unlikely to be able to drive normally without the heater on.
But sometimes it happens that the stove refuses to work, and at the most inopportune moment. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon for our cars.
If you suddenly discover that the stove in your VAZ-2110 has stopped working, do not rush to the service station, take a few minutes to diagnose it yourself. If you're lucky, you can fix it yourself, but if not, then at least you'll know what the problem is.
We identify the cause of the breakdown
First, you need to figure out the reason why the stove fan is not working. There may be several of them.
- A faulty fuse is the most common, simple and most common reason that the motor does not turn. On the one hand, replacing a fuse is not a big and difficult problem, which can be easily handled even by a beginner. But on the other hand, it will be necessary to find the reason why the fuse has become unusable. And to do this, you will need to examine the electrical circuit that ensures the normal operation of the heating system for the presence of a short circuit. Since we are talking about fuses, it would be useful to know that the operation of the stove on the VAZ-2110 depends on fuse F7 with a current strength of 30 amperes. Also, the operation of this fuse determines the illumination of the glove compartment, the functioning of the cigarette lighter, the electric motor from the headlight washer and the heated rear window. If a short circuit is not found in the electrical circuit of the heating system, then the cause will need to be looked for throughout the wiring.
- Problems with the contacts that are located inside the mounting block are a common reason for the VAZ heater motor not working. To identify this problem, you can move the block with the attached harnesses while the car is running. If the VAZ-2110 heater fan starts working, then it is necessary to remove the block and clean the contacts.
A problem with the contacts inside the mounting block is a common reason for a non-working fan.
- A flooded relay may also be one of the reasons why the heater fan does not work. Diagnosing this problem is very simple: the fan will turn on only after the car has warmed up well. In this case, you will need to replace the relay, which is hidden behind the dashboard.
- The heater electric motor can only operate when the third speed is activated. This situation is explained by the nature of the current supply to the fan: at speeds 1 and 2 this process is implemented through a resistor, and at speed 3 - directly. Consequently, if the heating does not work at the first two speeds, then the reason lies precisely in the resistor, which must be replaced.
- The malfunction of the switch can be identified as follows: after removing the center console, start the car, take a large 12-volt light bulb with soldered wires, connect the negative wire from it to the body and touch the second wire to contacts 1, 2 and 3 on the additional resistor. When the light comes on, it indicates that the switch is working properly. But if the light bulb does not light up, then you will need to connect the wire from the light bulb to the positive terminal on the switch. If there is no light on the light bulb, you can talk about an open circuit or a faulty fuse.
A broken fan motor could also be the cause.
- A faulty fan motor is the final cause that can result in a fan not working. Here we can consider three main reasons, the elimination of which may require replacing the motor, cleaning the contacts and replacing the brushes.
Checking the fuse
Let's start with the simplest. We lift the hood and find a mounting block there, and in it there is an F-18 fuse. It must be removed from the mounting socket and checked for suitability with a tester. There is another way to check, and it is much simpler. In the “ten”, this fuse is responsible for the safety of not only the heater controller, but also the glove compartment illumination lamp, as well as the cigarette lighter.
Turn on the ignition, open the glove compartment and look at the lamp. If it used to burn, but now it doesn’t, most likely the reason is the same why the VAZ-2110 stove does not work. Heater fan fuses are rated at 25 A. Please note this when replacing.
Fan replacement
If the problem still lies in the fan itself, then it would be best to replace it with a new one. The stove fan can, of course, be repaired, but this may involve, for example, replacing the brushes. It simply doesn’t make sense to carry out more comprehensive repairs, since you can’t hope for long-term service for such a part. Replacing a VAZ-2110 stove fan requires selecting a new part. There are two options here: find an old-style part or buy a new spare part. The second option is more acceptable and accessible.
VAZ stove fan
The replacement process is not as complicated as it might seem. It is enough to be able to work with standard tools, have free time and have the desire to tinker with your own machine. To replace a faulty fan, you must follow the following work plan:
- Open the hood and remove the battery negative terminal.
- We remove the windshield wipers by prying and dismantling the rubber caps. Using a 10mm wrench, unscrew the nuts and remove the brushes.
- Using a slotted screwdriver, pry up the decorative plugs, unscrew the screws on the frill and the nuts on the edges. Now we can remove the frill.
- Under the rubber seal you can find screws that hold the shield from the engine compartment. We also unscrew them.
- We dismantle the hose through which washer fluid is supplied to the injectors.
The process of replacing a fan is not as complicated as it seems
- On the right side of the engine compartment, there are two nuts on the bottom side that fit a 10mm socket wrench. They are difficult to get to, but you don’t have to unscrew them all the way, because with a few turns the shield can be easily removed.
- It is necessary to remove the clamps from the hose that connects to the vacuum booster of the brake system in advance.
- There are four self-tapping screws on the cabin filter cover; after unscrewing them, you can easily remove it.
- Already at this stage the outlines of the stove motor are visible. But you will also need to disconnect the block on the heating system motor and on the resistor.
- After the work has been done, it becomes possible to dismantle the left side of the stove along with the motor.
- A new part is installed in place of the damaged element, and assembly is carried out in the reverse order.
If you have never had to remove a heating system fan before, this process may take several hours. But in the future, any problem with the heating system can be fixed much faster. Even if something doesn’t work out for you during your work, you don’t need to stop trying to achieve a positive result. Over time, everything will definitely work out.
Work to replace the fan in the cabin
Replacing the heater motor of a VAZ 2110
The subsequent change of the heater motor will be done directly from inside the car:
Under the dashboard you need to find the block that goes to the electric motor. She disconnects. After this, you will need to unfasten the ground wiring of the electric motor. As a rule, it is pressed to the body by the front mounting nut of the heater. The trim and lining of the windshield frame are dismantled, and you cannot do without unscrewing the mounting screws. The right upholstery is removed from the interior heater, and the fastening nuts and screws should also be unscrewed. Heating hoses are disconnected
At this stage of work, extreme caution must be taken, since antifreeze residues may leak from these hoses and the heater radiator. To prevent the smell of coolant in the car interior, you need to lay a material that absorbs moisture well. The wiring from the electric motor, from the micro-reducer, and also from the pneumatic valve is disconnected
After these steps, remove the front housing with the stove casing
The wiring is disconnected from the electric motor, from the micro-reducer, and also from the pneumatic valve. After these steps, remove the front housing with the stove casing
These elements are fixed with brackets and screws. It is worth noting that the engine and motor are located on the casing. The latches are removed, and the engine and motor are removed
Recommendations for replacing the motor
Replacing the heater motor of a VAZ 2110
You can disassemble the electric motor yourself only to evaluate the collector and clean it. If the cause of the breakdown lies in another situation, then it is not advisable for a non-specialist in working with such parts to disassemble it. It is better to buy a new electric motor.
Note! It is also not recommended to dismantle the engine impeller on your own, since when it is installed in its place, the balancing, which plays an important role, will be disrupted. Naturally, the electric motor will function, but not smoothly, which can lead to breakage of the bearings and noise when the stove is turned on.
Since the stove is in a disassembled state, it becomes possible to calmly view the other components of the cabin heater. So:
- In order for more heat to come from the radiator, you need to dismantle it and wash it. It is fixed on the rear casing of the heater, which is removed by unscrewing the mounting screws. After this, the radiator can be easily removed and washed under the pressure of water flowing from a hose that is connected to the radiator inlet or outlet tube. The same pressure washes away dirt from the surfaces of the removed radiator.
- To disassemble the air ducts and heater control mechanisms, you will need to remove the instrument panel on which the main air ducts are located.
Note! Usually the panel with the main air ducts is made as one piece, so it must be handled with the utmost care so that it does not have to be replaced later. After this, you need to remove the interior air ducts, which are secured with special screws, and the decorative lining of the floor tunnel
After this, you need to remove the interior air ducts, which are secured with special screws, and the decorative lining of the floor tunnel
After this, you need to remove the interior air ducts, which are secured with special screws, and the decorative lining of the floor tunnel.
Note! Under this trim there are air ducts for heating the feet, which are attached to the body with screws and latches.
- The air distributor is removed from the dashboard by unscrewing the mounting screws and disconnecting the damper control rod.
- Reassembly must be done in the reverse order of disassembly. If necessary, fix the damper seals with glue. You can also seal the attachment points of the hoses with the radiator with sealant.
- When all the parts are assembled and installed in their places, the functioning of all components is checked and antifreeze or antifreeze is added. It all depends on personal preference.
- At the final stage, they check the tightness of the attachment of the hoses to the radiator and the actual operation of the assembled stove.
For those who perceive information visually, it is recommended to watch a video with a detailed description of the actions and several photos that will help you do everything correctly.
Repair work can be carried out with your own hands, but subject to clear instructions. This will help you save a lot of money, because the price for services of this kind in car services is not cheap.
VAZ-2110 the heater does not work, does not blow air at all, the speed controller does not work
One of the most problematic components in the design of the VAZ 2110 is the heating system. It claims to be complex and modern, but in reality it brings a lot of problems to its owners. To describe all the problems of a dozen heaters, it will take more than one hour, so today we will focus on the complete failure of the stove in operation and touch on the block of the automatic heater control system, SAUO, as mechanics call it in the army.
The stove doesn't blow at all, what's the problem?
If the heater fails, you can do the initial fault diagnosis yourself.
Unfortunately, the complex heater control system has not proven itself as a device that allows you to take the hassle off the driver and automatically maintain the set temperature. Instead, we got a lot of trouble and cold interiors in the frost. Let's go from simple to complex and first let's look at the problems with the electric heater motor. Everything is more or less simple here:
- Fuse. We turn on the stove, it doesn’t work. If we were lucky, the fuse had blown. Finding it is as easy as shelling pears, it is more difficult to find out the reason for its burnout. The 25-amp fuse F18 is located in the main mounting block; it also protects the circuit for the glove compartment lighting, heated rear window and is partially related to the cigarette lighter, so it is easy to diagnose its failure. And in order to find the short circuit that caused it to burn out, you will have to call all these circuits - the glove compartment light, the rear window heating, the headlight washer and the cigarette lighter.
Heater fuse location.
We check the contacts on the heater control unit and the electric motor.

Checking the automatic heater control system
The stove control system can also give out surprises. They consist in the fact that one of the speeds may not work, several, or only one, the most powerful, may work. At the same time, the SAUO block is not universal and is selected depending on the year of manufacture of the car:
One of the reasons for the failure of the stove may be the unit of the automatic heater control system.
- 2110-8128020-03 , price 2300 rubles, applies to the last ten years of production;
- 21102-8121020 , price 3100 rubles, installed on cars with air conditioning;
- 2110-8128020-02 , about 2 thousand, were put on the first ten years of production;
- 2110-8128020-01 , 1840 rubles, used on some cars until 2000.
Nevertheless, the design of all units is similar, only some parameters are different, and the signs of malfunction are similar for all.
The heater only blows at one speed
Without dismantling, you can diagnose a breakdown if the fan spins only at one speed or only in the third mode . The reason is the resistor, which is installed in the heater controller itself.
When the stove operates at only one speed, you should check the resistor.
Structurally, the switch is designed so that in the first two modes the electric motor is supplied with low voltage through a resistor, and in mode 3, bypassing the resistor. You can check this using a multimeter in resistance measurement mode.
The resistance of the first speed resistor is 0.23 Ohm , the second is 0.82 Ohm . If the spiral breaks or the contact tracks are worn, the multimeter will show infinity or a break.
Depending on the controller model, it may have three or four control positions, but the principle of operation is the same and understanding the connection diagram is not so difficult. Whatever the switch is, if speeds 1 and 2 are not working, you need to check the resistance on the switch slider . Thus, you can try to restore the heater control system or replace it with a new one as a last resort. Good luck to everyone in their search and warm cozy salons!

What to do if the heater fan on a VAZ-2110 does not work
If you don't adjust your interior heating before the cold weather sets in, you risk getting very cold. It’s easy to check if the fan is working: start the engine and switch the heater to the interior blowing mode. Its failure is accompanied by signs:
- warm air does not enter the cabin, the temperature in it does not change;
- switching modes is accompanied by extraneous sounds;
- The fan only starts at a certain speed.
The cause of the breakdown must be looked for not only in the VAZ-2110 fan itself, but also in its toggle switch or resistor. Let's look at the main reasons why this unit fails.
Thermostat and heater core
The reason why the VAZ-2110 stove does not work may be a malfunction of one of the elements of the cooling system. We are talking about the thermostat and the heater radiator. In the first case, the coolant will circulate in a small circle due to a thermostat malfunction. Naturally, it will not get into the heater radiator. As a result, cold air will enter the cabin.
Checking the thermostat is easy. To do this, warm up the engine to operating temperature and raise the hood. Touch the lower radiator hose. It should be hot (warm). If it is cold, we can say with confidence that the stove in the VAZ-2110 stopped working precisely because the thermostat was stuck in the closed position. If the pipe is warm, the problem should be looked for further.
Another reason why the VAZ-2110 stove does not work may be a malfunction of its radiator. Most often, it becomes impassable or not completely passable for the coolant carrying heat. This happens due to the deposition of scale and dirt on the inner surface of its tubes.
To check the heater core, warm up the engine and locate its two hoses in the engine compartment. Touch them with your hand. They should both be hot. If the inlet is hot and the outlet is cold or lukewarm, the radiator is clogged. The problem of its obstruction is solved either by washing using special liquids, or by replacing the element.
Fuse problems
There are several main reasons for the malfunction of the stove fan located on the opposite side of the radiator. One of them is the failure of the fuse. This part is easy to replace. To prevent the breakdown from happening again, it is necessary to find a problem in the power supply circuit of several vehicle systems. The element itself is located in the installation box of the engine compartment of the VAZ-2110. Before replacing it, you need to check it with a multimeter: connect the probes of the device to the fuse contacts and carry out the test in test mode. If the multitester shows “0”, you need to replace the element - it has failed.
Useful tips
Finally, here are a few tips that may help extend the life of your car's interior heater.
- To prevent a malfunction from catching you by surprise, check the functionality of the stove even in warm weather when it is not in use.
- Pay attention to the functionality of the cigarette lighter and the glove box light. If they malfunction, check the stove as well.
- Monitor the temperature of the coolant in the system. Remember that its overheating may indicate a non-working thermostat, and this can lead not only to problems with heating the interior, but also to failure of the entire engine.
- Do not fill the system with low-quality coolant. This will sooner or later lead to the formation of scale and obstruction of the heater radiator.
- Change the cabin filter along with the oil and fuel filters according to the routine maintenance schedule.
More rare faults
The cause of the breakdown may be the failure of other components of the car. Let's figure out what elements you will have to check and replace if necessary:
- Filling the ignition relay. With this malfunction, a previously broken fan may start working after 20-25 minutes of engine operation. This behavior of the unit is a sure sign that it does not work due to moisture getting inside the relay. Fixing this problem is simple - just replace the faulty unit. After this, the fan start will not be delayed.
- Blowing the interior with warm air only works at speed 3. In this case, it is necessary to check the condition of the additional resistor. If voltage is not supplied to the fan at speed 1 or 2, then this is most likely the problem. The resistor is located to the right of the stove behind the vacuum booster. To replace it you need:
- remove the negative terminal from the battery;
- in the cabin, remove the upholstery and windshield trim;
- remove the sound insulation from the right side of the car panel;
- remove the vacuum booster;
- disconnect the wire block from the converter;
- remember or mark how it was connected so that you can return it to its place correctly later;
- Check the resistor with an ohmmeter, if it is faulty, replace it and reassemble it.
- Broken heater switch. Sometimes the signal to turn on the stove simply does not reach the fan. In this case, you need to check this module:
- take a 12 V light bulb equipped with wires and disassemble the central console of the stove in the cabin;
- Connect the negative wire from this lamp to the body, and check all three contacts leading from the additional resistor to the switch with the connecting ones.
- if the light is on, then the switch is working properly, otherwise you need to replace the fuse in the mounting compartment and check the integrity of the wiring.
If after all the above tests and manipulations the fan still does not work, then the reason may lie in:
- electric motor of the device;
- contacts to the electric motor;
- motor brushes (they may stick to the main body or wear out).
As a rule, if replacing a fuse or resistor is not required (or does not help), then the fault should be looked for in the electric motor. You may need to replace the whole thing, clean the contacts, replace the brushes.
Repair recommendations
So, we have dealt with the causes of malfunctions of the VAZ 2110 stove, now let’s move on directly to troubleshooting the problems.
Malfunction 1.
Problems with temperature control are one of the most common causes of malfunction. In most cases, this is caused by a failure of the control unit or damper.
How to proceed in this case?
Check the functionality of the temperature sensor (it is located on the ceiling, near the interior lamp).
It is because of its malfunction that the required command may not reach the damper.
Diagnosing a sensor malfunction is simple - move the control knob from one extreme position to another. In this case, it is necessary to monitor whether the temperature of the outgoing air changes.
There can be two options here - the temperature does not change at all, or the air begins to warm up only when the handle is in the extreme (maximum) position.
In the first case, repairing the VAZ 2110 stove by replacing the sensor alone will not cost you - you need to look for another reason.
In the second case, we can confidently talk about the failure of the controller itself.
Malfunction 2.
Failure of the gear motor.
If, when the heating is turned on, only cold air enters the cabin, then there are obvious problems with the stove.
In 9 out of 10 cases, the cause of such a malfunction is the failure of the gearmotor. Typically, replacing this element allows the system to return to full functionality.
The sequence of actions will be as follows:
- Remove the windshield wipers;
- Remove the frill (to do this, you need to unscrew three screws);
- Disconnect the wires from the gearmotor;
- Remove the old one, install and connect the new device.

For greater convenience, it is better to hire a partner as an assistant - he will adjust the air from the cabin.
The procedure for removing the gearmotor of the VAZ 2110 stove.
Malfunction 3.
Heater failure.
Sometimes the cause of a malfunction of the VAZ 2110 stove can be the heater itself. To verify this (or refute the assumption), it is necessary to dismantle the main deflector.
This is easy to do - just bend the special fasteners and move the flap (you can crawl up to it from the side of the engine compartment).
If the radiator breaks down and needs to be replaced, you will have to disassemble the entire stove (if you wish, you can do this work yourself).
Malfunction 4.
Poor quality of air heating by the stove.
If you are not satisfied with the VAZ 2110 stove in terms of the speed and quality of air heating, then you should take a few simple steps:
- firstly
, do not be greedy with money to buy a high-quality aluminum damper (it’s better to throw away the old “piece of plastic” right away). Such a replacement eliminates the curvature of the damper when switching and, accordingly, helps conserve heat;
- secondly
, install a new heater (the factory type is not of high quality). The most preferable option is to purchase heaters from a VAZ-2112-1 or 2112-2. But there are some disadvantages here too. The first type does not have a cleaning filter, and the second type does not have a recirculation function. Each of the filters described above can easily “go away” 15 thousand kilometers; - thirdly
, it wouldn’t hurt to spend money on installing pre-start heaters, or many people call such a device an antifreeze heater. Their task is to preheat the interior and engine.
Malfunction 5.
Insufficient airflow in the area of the side windows and feet.
According to the complaints of many car enthusiasts, the VAZ 2110 stove does not warm up the legs and windows enough. In such a situation, the only way out is to improve the air channels inside the car.
You must act in the following sequence:
- 1. Make sure the stove is working. Only after this does it make sense to modernize the system.
- 2. Dismantle the panels completely and disassemble them into small components.
- 3. If there are cracks (slots) in the panel, seal them or install a new hose. But in most cases, the first option is quite sufficient.
- 4. Inspect the top and bottom of the panel carefully. If there are cracks, they must be carefully treated with anti-creak. Try to do everything efficiently, because you won’t have time to return to this work later. The fastening points and holes must also be carefully taped.
- 5. Remove the damper along with the factory seal. Now carefully glue the valve using modelin and process the existing gaps (including on the driver’s side).
- 6. Inspect the air ducts that go to the feet. If there are cracks, seal them.
- 7. Remove the factory air distributor, insert corrugated tubes into the holes and seal everything with foam for security. Particular attention must be paid to the pipe - it must have a thickness of at least four centimeters in diameter.
- 8. As a result, you get three tubes, one of which goes back to the passengers, and the other two go to the driver and front passenger. All that remains is to put everything back in place.
How to change a fan
If you decide to change the motor or the entire assembly, then you should follow the instructions:
- Remove the negative terminal from the battery, remove the windshield wipers by unscrewing the nuts with a 10 mm wrench.
- Pry off the decorative cap with a flat-head screwdriver. Unscrew the nuts of the frill and remove it.
- The cover is held in place from the engine compartment with self-tapping screws; remove them.
- Remove the washer fluid supply hose to the injectors.
- Using a 10 mm socket wrench, unscrew the nuts holding the shield.
- Remove the clamps from the hose leading to the vacuum brake booster.
- Remove the cabin filter by unscrewing the screws.
- Disconnect the wire connectors from the heater motor and resistor.
- Remove the left side of the stove along with the motor.
Now all you have to do is install a new one in place of the old fan, and then reassemble it. You have two options: for the tenth VAZ model they produce old-style parts or new ones. It is best to mount a more modern version.

Design of the VAZ-2110 heater
The SAUO replaced manual control of the heater, but otherwise the stove remained structurally the same. As in earlier models, the interior heating system is a housing with a radiator installed inside, connected to the cooling system of the power unit - a heat source, dampers that redirect the air flow to the desired zones, and a fan driven by an electric motor, which creates the air flow. SAUO is a controller that, depending on the set parameters, monitors the temperature in the cabin and regulates the position of the dampers, maintaining the specified mode.
Video: Heater VAZ 2110; eleven; 12. Design and principle of operation.
The efficiency of the VAZ-2110 interior heater would be low without the forced creation of air flow, and this task falls on the stove fan.
Stove fan
Structurally, the fan consists of a DC electric motor with a commutator-brush assembly and an impeller mounted on the electric rotor. motor. The electric motor is powered from the vehicle’s on-board network. There are several modes of fan operation, the difference between which comes down only to the rotor rotation speed, and this is realized by inserting a resistor into the power supply circuit of the electric motor.
The fan operating mode is set using a handle located in the heater control unit on the center console. Initially, on the VAZ-2110, this handle was part of the design of the SAUO controller, but functioned separately from the controller itself. Later, the ACS added an automatic fan control function (position “A” on the handle), using which the controller regulates the rotation speed of the electric motor in order to maintain the set temperature.
The electric motor used in the design of the VAZ-2110 fan is simple, but it has “weak points” - the commutator-brush assembly and bearings. Wear of these elements causes incorrect operation and complete inoperability of the fan. Short circuits and winding breaks in the stove drive are rare, but don’t forget about these breakdowns either.
Symptoms of failure. Heater components that affect fan operation
Signs of a malfunctioning stove fan are quite obvious and impossible not to notice. Common symptoms of failure:
- Increased noise, grinding noise during operation.
- Significant reduction in air injection efficiency.
- The fan does not turn on.
- Spontaneous change in the rotation speed of the electric motor.
- It can be determined by ear that the electric motor is operating under heavy load.
In some cases, such consequences result from malfunctions in the power supply and fan control circuits, so you should check them first. This applies to:
- fuse (blowout is the cause of complete failure of the electric motor);
- resistor (if it is faulty, some speed modes of the electric motor stop working);
- controller (the knob for switching fan modes is part of its design, so malfunctions of the automatic control system affect the functioning of the electric motor);
- wiring terminals of the power and control circuits (oxidation, damage to wires is one of the reasons for a malfunctioning electric fan).
If diagnostics of these elements shows that they are in good working order, it is necessary to dismantle and repair the fan itself. But it can be diagnosed first.
Fan check
A check is done by directly powering the electric motor from the battery (we lay wires from the battery terminals and connect them to the power terminals of the motor) - operation under load, difficulty in gaining rotation speed, squeals and squeaks indicate wear of the drive components and the need to replace them. But if, even with direct voltage supply, the electric motor does not start, it is most likely that it has burned out or the windings have broken. Such faults are difficult to fix and it is easier to replace the entire unit.
Design features of the stove of the old and new models
The design of the electric motor of the stove on the VAZ-2110 is identical, but the fans and their location are different. On models of the first years of production, the electric fan is installed in the stove housing in front of the radiator and it is located horizontally (old-style stoves). Afterwards, the design was revised - the fan was already placed in the cabin filter housing and installed vertically (new model heaters).
Despite the design features, dismantling the fan is a simple operation and does not require complete disassembly of the stove.
On a VAZ-2110 with an old-style heater, to remove the electric fan you need to:
- Dismantle the frill.
- Remove the front wall of the niche in which the heater is located.
- Remove the back cover of the fan housing by first unscrewing the screws and removing the clamps.
- Disconnect the wiring from the fan and remove it.
As for models with a new type of stove, the technology for removing the electric stove fan on such cars is different:
- dismantle the “jabot” and the front wall;
- remove the air filter;
- unscrew the fastening of the filter housing to the stove body and separate them;
- disconnect the wiring;
- remove the filter housing together with the fan;
- dismantle the electric fan.
After removing the electric motor with the impeller, we disassemble it, perform troubleshooting, replace worn elements and put it back together.

Problem solving
Now let's talk about how to solve emerging issues, troubleshoot problems and return the heater to normal operation.
Each breakdown requires separate consideration.
Broken motor
The VAZ-2110 stove does not work
If the stove on a VAZ-2110 has completely stopped working, this may indicate a failure of one of the elements of the heating system. In this case, to determine the cause of the malfunction, you will have to check the functioning of absolutely all parts of the heating system. This is a labor-intensive task and requires the performer to have certain knowledge of electronics. It is also necessary to understand the technology of functioning of the car’s heating system.
Diagram of the automatic heater control system: 1 – fan electric motor; 2 – additional resistor; 3 – controller; 4 – mounting block; 5 – ignition switch; 6 – cabin air temperature sensor; 7 – recirculation switch; 8 – recirculation valve; 9 – micromotor gearbox for heater damper drive; A – to the instrument lighting switch; B – to power supplies
Most often, the VAZ-2110 stove does not work due to a fan failure. It can be easily replaced with a new product. In second place is the thermostat, which is also replaced in case of malfunction.
Failure of a vehicle's heater in most cases results in the need for major repairs. In this case, you need to calculate the possible costs of purchasing new parts and compare them with the price of a new stove. Experts recommend that if the stove fails completely, it should be completely replaced. Very often, the VAZ-2110 is equipped with stoves from the VAZ-2112 that are more advanced in design features and technical characteristics.
The temperature in the VAZ-2110 cabin is not regulated
Sometimes there are situations when the heater cannot be adjusted. Regardless of the position of the temperature regulator on the control panel, the stove either blows cold air or produces only a hot stream. Such discomfort may be caused by a malfunctioning temperature sensor or a failure of the heater damper.
You can check the operation of the sensor by turning the temperature regulator several times to the extreme maximum position. If the situation has not changed, then it is necessary to replace the sensor, which is located on the ceiling of the car, next to the ceiling light.
Temperature sensor in the passenger compartment of a VAZ-2110 car
Sometimes the VAZ-2110 stove does not heat up or only works at maximum speed due to a failure of the heater damper. In this case, it is necessary to remove the deflectors from the engine compartment, bend the fastening antennae and get to the valve. Often the damper gets stuck in one position, and it does not respond to the regulator inside the cabin. Then you need to try to move the stuck part. If it moves without effort, then the problem must be looked elsewhere.
The cause of the malfunction may be deformation of the damper due to high temperatures. Then it is necessary to replace the plastic valve that the car is equipped with from the factory with a more reliable aluminum part.
The heater damper micro-reducer may also be the culprit of the malfunction. If it fails, it will be impossible to adjust the temperature in the cabin. You can check this by removing the windshield trim and frill from the engine compartment. After this, it is necessary to test the movement of the damper lever when switching heater modes in the cabin. If the damper lever moves, then the micro-gearbox is working. Otherwise, it must be replaced.
If the VAZ-2110 stove does not work in any mode other than the maximum one, then the cause of the breakdown may be a failure of the heater resistor. The resistor may fail due to overvoltage in the network. The resistor is located on the right side of the stove. To replace it or diagnose it, it is necessary to dismantle the windshield cover and the vacuum booster. After this, using an ohmmeter, the resistance on the coils, which are responsible for converting the current into the required voltage for the correct operation of the heating system, is checked. If the indicators differ from the norm, then it is necessary to replace the product with a new resistor.
And also the problem may be in the disconnection of the fuse, which is located on the resistor board. In this case, you can eliminate the malfunction by soldering, however, you must first find the cause of the blown fuse. It may be in oxidized contacts or poor wiring insulation. Initially, you need to diagnose all elements of the heater's electrical circuit using a tester, find the weak link and eliminate the malfunction. Poor operation of the heater's electrical components can cause a short circuit or fire.
The VAZ-2110 stove blows cold air
Often, owners of domestic cars are faced with a situation where only cold air enters the cabin through the heater deflectors, regardless of the temperature setting. In most cases, the heater blows cold air after replacing or adding coolant. The cause of this malfunction is air entering the heating system of the vehicle.
If the coolant is replaced incorrectly, an air lock forms in the radiator pipes and hoses, which must be eliminated. This is not difficult to do. It is necessary to drive the car onto a hill or overpass, so that its front end is as high as possible. After this, you need to let the car idle for several minutes, periodically you need to gas it. In this way, the air lock can be expelled from the system.
Then you need to check the antifreeze level and, if necessary, add it to the required level in the expansion tank. Often, after carrying out such actions, the stove begins to work properly.

The windows fog up, the feet are not heated
It is not uncommon for VAZ models to have a problem when air flows normally from the stove, but it does not heat the feet and does not flow onto the windows.
Modification of air ducts
The issue can be resolved by upgrading your air ducts and getting rid of existing gaps in the cabin and warm air intake channels. This is a rather complicated procedure, the implementation of which will allow you to forget for a very long time about the problem with the stove, which does not warm your feet and does not blow on the side windows.
It would not be superfluous to install a pre-start heater. Due to it, the interior warms up faster.
Supplying a weak air flow into the car interior
Owners of VAZ-2110 cars are often faced with a situation where both warm and cold air is supplied to the cabin, but under very low pressure. Accordingly, heating or ventilation of the interior requires significantly more time than during normal operation of the heating system. If the heater does not blow well, the cause of this malfunction may be a clogged heater radiator or vehicle cabin filter.
First, you need to check the condition of the cabin filter of the car. In dozens, it is most often located behind the glove compartment on the passenger side. If it is heavily polluted, then air flows through it poorly and provokes problems with the interior heating system. Contamination of a car's cabin filter can be eliminated in two ways. The first is high-quality cleaning of the filter and installing it in its original seat. However, this method is less effective. The problem will reoccur a few weeks later. A more correct solution is to replace the cabin filter with a new product. Moreover, the filter must be changed every fifteen thousand kilometers or twice a year.
Cabin filter of the VAZ-2110 car, requiring replacement
If after replacing the cabin filter the problem does not disappear, then you need to check the condition of the heater radiator. This is more difficult to do, since you will have to disassemble almost the entire heater from the engine compartment side. Poor flow of coolant in the radiator can be caused by both small particles of debris that can get into it, and the formation of scale inside the product. Antifreeze leakage through holes in the radiator may also be the reason for poor operation of the stove.
If the radiator is clogged with debris or scale, the problem can be eliminated by washing the product with special means. If there is a coolant leak, experts advise immediately replacing the radiator with a new part. Fixing the problem by soldering the radiator will help solve the problem for a very short period of time, after which the antifreeze will leak out again and you will have to re-disassemble almost half of the engine compartment to install a new part. It is also necessary to immediately check the condition of the hoses and pipes that go to the heater radiator and, if necessary, replace them.
Coolant leaks
The stove may not heat up due to the fact that the level of coolant, that is, coolant, decreases. Do not rush to add antifreeze to the tank. First, be sure to check for signs of leakage in the pipes and connections.
Problems with the stove on a VAZ 2110
If your radiator is leaking, the news is not good for you. You will have to dismantle it and, most likely, replace it with a new one.
The heater is very noisy
Many owners of the domestic “ten” are faced with a situation where a working stove makes a lot of noise. In this case, everything works fine, air flows spread throughout the cabin in the same way as the regulators are set.
The noise does not affect efficiency, but it becomes seriously annoying over time. Sometimes it seems that the stove will be covered with a copper basin, although it can make noise for a long time without consequences for the integrity of the device.
Let's try to figure out why it makes noise.
- If the noise is similar to a squeal, or the sounds are sharp, check the fastening of the lower part of the stove. The fact is that fastening is carried out using hooks that can come off. This is what makes the noise.
- The heater body sometimes gets damaged by the protrusions holding the retainer. In this case, the housing simply needs to be replaced with a new one.
- If the fan itself is noisy, remove it, clean it, and check the condition of the electric motor.
- The textolite washers, which are designed to prevent axial play of the fan, may also hum. Any low friction washers will be suitable as a replacement. For example, elements made of fluoroplastic. Be sure to lubricate the washer. Some people use regular machine oil, but it really only gives a temporary effect. The best lubricant in this case would be thick graphite grease or lithol.
Only hot air blows
Most often, the stove only blows hot air in a VAZ 2110 due to the fault of the car owner. If you recently bought a car, and in the summer you first tried the heater in cold air mode, you may notice that only a hot stream comes out of it.
The stove only blows hot air
This is due to the fact that the problem of damage to the damper micromotor was not solved in the best way. This micromotor is responsible for driving the damper and is located in the engine compartment in close proximity to the windshield. To get to it, you need to remove the frill and insulation.
Check to see if it is even there. Sometimes the micromotor gears wear out and the teeth do not touch each other. It is recommended to replace such motors. But some solve the problem differently - they remove the motor and turn on the damper manually. Yes, you can operate a car in this mode in winter.
But you should understand that because of this, the stove will constantly work in heating mode, driving hot air around the cabin. Therefore, switching to manual mode is a temporary measure, which should soon develop into a full-fledged replacement of the damper micromotor.
The heater on the VAZ 2110 is a very important unit that is responsible for the comfort and warmth of the driver and his passengers. Therefore, if signs of malfunction appear, do not delay stove repair. Especially if the cold season is approaching, and driving without heating will be very problematic.
Fan repair (step by step)
The disassembly technology is very simple, but proceed carefully. Since electric motor failure lies in the wear of bearings and graphite brushes, let’s consider how to replace these elements:
- Let's disassemble the electric motor. To do this, first remove the impeller, and then the two spring clamps of the motor support.
- We remove the support.
- Unscrew the screws securing the brush assembly and remove it.
- Carefully knock out the rotor.
- We clean the elements from dust and dirt.
- From the inside of the stator, carefully bend the edges of the plate holding the bearing.
- We knock out the bearing and install a new one in its place (for replacement you need bearing No. 609).
- We bend the edges of the plate back.
- We inspect the condition of the collector plates on the rotor and, if necessary, sand them with sandpaper (fine-grained).
- We replace the worn brushes with new ones (we solder the wires of the worn ones, and in their place we solder the wires of the new elements).
- We bend the stops of the brush springs (this will allow you to easily install the brush assembly in place).
- We put the rotor in place.
- We install and fix the brush assembly, having previously seated the brushes in their seats.
- We install brush springs into the holes that covered the stops and bend the stops back.
- Install the fan support and impeller.
- We install the repaired fan on the car.
As you can see, it is not difficult to repair the VAZ-2110 heater fan, and this task can be handled in a garage, even without special skills in car repair.
