Since the father and son are farmers, they needed a truck for work. After some thought, we decided to buy KamAZ. Since money was tight, they had no way to buy a moving truck.
As a result of a search in neighboring villages, they purchased a KamAZ, converted from an onboard 53212. The condition of the car is shown in the photo, the cabin is rotten through and through, the body with the left side piled up inside, without a tailgate, there is rust all over.
After much thought and comparing the costs of repairing our cabin, we ended up buying a cabin for dismantling in more or less normal condition.
They replaced the old rotten cabin, but it also needed repairs. It all started with replacing the thresholds and partly the bottom, and then it turned out that the bottom of the windshield frame along with the amplifier had rotted, they bought a new amplifier and cut the frame from the old cabin, in order to save money, it was surprisingly intact.

The interior was remodeled, the door cards, steering wheel, gear knob were reupholstered in leatherette, not expensive, but made with your own hands. I also made a wide sofa with my own hands, instead of a passenger seat, and under it there were drawers.

Pickup cab
The cabin was used from the ZIL 131, in the northern version (former polar drilling station). The fitting showed that the cabin refused to fit into its proper place, so the author had to subject it to a major alteration. The bottom and power structures of the cabin were redone, in addition, the pedal mounting unit was moved 150 millimeters forward.
Zil-130 the very beginning of the project
It was decided to use the box formed as a result of reconstruction as a container for multimedia systems, and a subwoofer also found its place there. The top of the box is closed with an aluminum lid, on which there is an armrest with a glove compartment and places for glasses.
The instrument panel was taken from an American donor, the glass was removed from it and the dimensions of the body were changed to fit the Zilov panel, after which the plexi protection was cut out, and the entire structure was installed in its original place in the ZiL cabin. The front bumper is homemade, with peculiar angular shapes. The base of the bumper is a spatial welded structure made of a square pipe, covered with sheet metal. Fangs brought to the desired shape are attached to the bumper - an integral attribute of the ZIL. Decorative moldings are installed on the front side of the bumper.

To make the cab more consistent with the image of an American pickup truck, the front fascia and fenders were carefully fitted and then welded together. After this, the welds and other surfaces were puttied and sanded.

The car was produced in 1985 and was purchased from the storage of a military unit. The condition of the truck was satisfactory, but it was decided to do a complete restoration of the vehicle. Regarding the pendants. It is impossible to make the car lower. The frame is indeed very bulky, the cabin is fixed at the minimum possible height. The front springs are cut into one and a half turns. First they cut off more and... the car rested on the bump stops (( I had to redo it. Such is the kinematics of the suspension that with this option the minimum permissible travel is maintained. The rear part was somewhat easier, but I had to work hard. Firstly, it was very difficult to unscrew the earring fastening bolts that had soured in the bushings. Secondly, I was just lucky that there was available steel necessary to maintain the strength of the thickness. And one more thing - due to the long base and design features of the machine’s mounting, the resulting ground clearance is minimal, with less I simply won’t leave the garage, I’ll hang on my belly halfway to victory)) )
As a result, the height of the Zil is 1.90 m, the standard Zil is 2.40, so the difference is no less than half a meter) On the wheels, they decided to leave these rims in front, but slightly widen the track by using spacers, the tires will be 245/75/16, but there will be unwelding at the rear and tires around 295-315/70/R16. It should look good.
The exhaust is as simple as 5 kopecks, two 63 pipes go into a Ø76mm can, the difference in length was made intentionally so that the sound would be bububoo)) The material is stainless steel, we don’t make it from anything else!
