The safety of the driver and the people in the car with him when driving in bad weather depends on the cleanliness of the windshield. The glass surface is cleaned by a cleaner, so its serviceability will determine how clean the glass will be. The article discusses the windshield wiper trapezoid (WW): the device, signs and methods of malfunctions, and instructions for replacement are given.

Windshield wipers - taking care of cleanliness
Today, personal transport will not surprise anyone, and the equipment of modern models is aimed at ensuring adequate safety for road users. One of the main elements responsible for our smooth movement are car windshield wipers. They ensure the cleanliness of the windshield and rear glass during precipitation, remove drops of moisture, dirt, traces of insects and other debris.
But can we really assess the situation on the road when the glass is not sufficiently cleaned, everything is stained, and we constantly have to strain our eyes? It follows from this that the high-quality work of wipers also has a direct impact on our health. But now we are not interested in the node as a whole. We'll talk about the trapezoid. It is responsible for converting the rotational impulse of the motor into the translational movement of the windshield wiper blades.
The trapezoid is a rather complex electromechanical device and often fails. The main elements of the purifier are the body, rods, shafts and motor. The components of the gearbox are pins and hinges. The principle of operation is as follows: the windshield wiper motor creates a rotational movement of the finger and sets the trapezoid itself in motion. Rods connect the shafts to the gearbox and transmit oscillatory movements. As a result, the wiper blades move from side to side and clean the glass of dirt.
Daewoo Lanos 2004, 86 l. With. — self-repair
Eh...what I need, but it’s difficult, I can’t do it myself ((
What tags should I use?
Before shooting, I made marks on the glass and aligned them.
Marks on the location of the wipers themselves on the glass? Does the trapezoid fall into place without any problems?
No, I made the marks myself before removal, the trapezoid was no problem.
I wanted to do the same operation, but I couldn’t remove the wipers from the axle... I twisted it, and sprayed it with a VD, and used brute force - it just won’t come off (((
Sadly. I once unscrewed it myself, one rubs, but one stays in place)))
If only you would have called me and I would have given you 60 grams of happiness, it’s worth it.
How did you get the pins out of the plastic bushings and how did you attach them to the new ones?
You screw on the nut and take a hammer and tap it on the nut itself and that’s basically it, but don’t rush to push it into the duralumin, you take the natfiek and adjust the hole for the pin. and just when you fit it, you take it and hammer it in there. If it doesn’t work out, we’ll meet before the club meeting, we’ll go to the garage and do everything, we’ll be there for half an hour.
But I think these will be enough for me for a couple of years, so for now I probably won’t bother.
But what if it makes sense to take it apart and lubricate it for prevention? They wipe fine for me at any speed. And if so, where can I get these bushings and what do they look like?
Yes, they look like the original ones (black plastic bushings) only made from duralumin, you just need to wisely hammer the original studs into them for fastening to the body, and that’s it, the fit on the axle is quite tight, there is no play at all. I work simply beyond words, quietly and clearly.
If I had known when I installed it, I would have taken a photo.
Yes, they are available in any specialty store for Lanos and Sens. Costs 1 piece 30g. Well, to be honest, it's worth it.
When it gets warmer, I'll get busy! Thank you! Added to favorites)

Press the windshield wiper on the leash at the bend; if there is no light, then you can simply lubricate it and forget it, and if there is, then change it.
OK! Thanks I'll know!)
But I did it a little differently, I just went and bought two duralumin bushings (the original plastic ones), exchanged them for duralumin ones and installed them, there was no shack anymore.
Your original plastic bushings are still not very worn out, I actually had one side completely worn out, and nothing worked almost all winter.
I walked around the bazaar and looked, but I couldn’t find one with bushings, so I had to sculpt it from what I had.
It will be useful: Graphite lubricant for a car: characteristics and application
But this is not the final version yet. If I'm free, I'll drill out the original plastic parts and fill them with a nylon bushing, then it will definitely be forever)))
When will you need a new trapeze?
At the slightest breakage of the trapezoid, the correct operation of the wipers is disrupted. Most often, a new part is installed. However, in some cases, you can limit yourself to purchasing a repair kit for a windshield wiper trapezoid and replacing its individual elements. So, what should you pay close attention to?
The very first sign of a breakdown is a weakening of pressure in the system, that is, the wiper cannot cope with the flow of water and snow. There may also be noise during operation, the reverse motion of the windshield wiper is difficult - you can see the tension with which the brush moves across the glass. In addition, the backlash increases. As a result, the glass is not clean enough, stains appear, and all this negatively affects visibility, and therefore our safety.
The cause of breakdown is often wear and tear of parts, because they are mostly made of plastic, sometimes of insufficient quality. A trapezoid can also fail as a result of mechanical damage, for example, during an accident.
It is very important to choose the right trapezoid. Externally, they may be the same, but they differ in the method of fastening. For example, VAZ cars have two versions of the trapezoid - old and new. In one case it is fixed with 2 studs, in the second - 4. In addition, the sizes of the windshield wiper arms, as well as the connectors for connecting to the electric motor, are different.
If you have certain knowledge, you can solve all these problems right during the repair, cut off excess fasteners, replace leads, but why this additional work? And there is no guarantee that after such transformations the wipers will work as they should. There is a fairly high probability of play appearing, or the brushes will have difficulty returning to their original position. Therefore, you should not chase minor savings; buy a “original” high-quality part that will last a long time.
Trapezoid repair
During repairs, it is necessary to clean all elements of the trapezoid from dirt and inspect the studs. If wear is detected on their ribs, the trapezoid will have to be replaced. Repairing a trapezoid involves replacing the plastic caps. To do this you will need a repair kit and boiling water. First, disassemble the trapezoid using a pry bar or a heavy-duty flathead screwdriver as leverage. After this, cut off the old plastic caps. If you can’t cut it, use side cutters and bite off the caps piece by piece until you can pull them out of the trapezoid rods. You can also hold the ends of the trapezoid in boiling water, 2 to 3 minutes is enough, then push the caps out of their seats.

Three types of trapezoids were installed on cars of the “tenth” family - VAZ 2110, 2111 and 2112, which differed in minor details. Therefore, there is a possibility that either the trapezoid rods or the caps will have to be adjusted. Remove the cap and inspect it. If there is a fixing protrusion on top of it, check the recess for it on the rod seat. If there is no notch, you will have to either cut off the protrusion on the cap (does not affect the performance and reliability of the trapezoid) or saw through it in the draft. If there is no protrusion on the cap, no adjustment will be necessary.
Clean the rod and seat, then lower the cap into boiling water for 10 - 15 seconds. After this, it will soften and easily fall into place. Do not install a cold cap as this will destroy it. After the cap has cooled completely (20 minutes), the rod is ready for assembly. Before assembly, lubricate the bushings with graphite grease.
Check the serviceability of the electric motor. To do this, disconnect it from the trapezoid (you need to unscrew the fastening nut) and connect it to the car battery. When working, it should make a low buzzing sound. If you don't know how to connect the motor to the battery, then connect it to the power connector. Turn on various operating modes of the electric motor for 10 - 15 minutes. After that, feel it. If the motor gets hot, it needs to be replaced. An electrical technician can try to repair this device, but regular drivers and car enthusiasts need to replace it.
Repairing a trapezoid using a repair kit
If the bushing in an old part is simply worn out, it is not necessary to change the entire trapezoid. It is enough to simply repair it using a repair kit. As a rule, it has everything you need. To repair the trapezoid, you will also have to remove it. When removing the wiper arms, you must try to act extremely carefully, otherwise you may damage the glass or paint on the edge of the hood.

Replacement - in detail and in detail
Of course, at the first malfunction, you can go to a service center, where specialists will repair the wipers in a matter of minutes. However, this option will require extra material costs, and given that replacing the windshield wiper trapezoid is not such a labor-intensive process, you can solve a similar problem yourself. Let's start with how to change the entire mechanism.
First, you should dismantle the old part; by the way, this cannot be avoided during repairs. To do this, we need a 12mm wrench. Unscrew the nuts securing the wipers and remove them. Be careful, as the spring is quite elastic, and some difficulties may arise with dismantling. To make the process easier, bend the leashes first. Next, unscrew the screws with a Phillips screwdriver and remove the plastic part. Using a knife, we pull out the plugs and remove the remaining fasteners.
To get directly to the trapezoid, the plastic parts of the casing should also be removed. The part itself is attached to the electric motor. Next, unscrew the nuts and screw that secure the windshield wiper trapezoid and the electric motor to the body bracket. Be sure to disconnect the power connectors during this repair. We dismantle the electric motor, remove all the fastenings of the trapezoid and pull it out.
The new part comes into our hands in a disassembled state, so it must be assembled before installation. So, fastening is carried out with three bolted connections. The first element is inserted into the eye near the rubber casing. Please note that you will have to put in some effort, but do not immediately fix it with a bolt. Next, put on the remaining part of the knot, and be sure to adjust its position.
Now you can tighten all the nuts and proceed directly to the installation. So, the windshield wiper trapezoid is assembled in the reverse order, but be prepared for the fact that you will have to adjust the position of the blades. In addition, it would be a good idea to lubricate all joints and rubbing surfaces with graphite lubricant. Just do not use lithol, as it loses its properties at low temperatures.
How to remove the windshield wiper trapezoid
Many manuals recommend removing the fuse block (FB) and removing the heater motor. We won’t do all this, everything is much simpler!
- Open the hood and disconnect the windshield wiper wiring block from the fuse box.
- We take out the protective casing of the heater fan and remove the heater filter.
- We unscrew the fastenings of the heater motor, move it 90 degrees (it is not necessary to remove it).
- Next, we move directly to the wipers: remove the decorative trim on the windshield wiper mount, then use a “10” key to unscrew the nut securing the wiper, and remove the wiper.
- Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the protective rubber cover of the windshield wiper mounting nut, and unscrew the nut itself with a “24” wrench.
- Remove the rings and gaskets from the wiper shaft.
- Similarly, remove the other wiper.
- Next, we go back to the engine compartment and unscrew the fastenings of the trapezoid to the car body.
- Now the trapezoid is in a free position, but it will not be possible to pull it out, because The fuse box and the heater motor are in the way.
Removing the wiper trapezoid
There are two options:
- completely remove the heater motor, remove the fuse box (two nuts);
- remove the gear motor from the trapezoid and take out the gear motor one by one, then the trapezoid itself.
For special teapots: please do not confuse the stove motor (heater fan) with the trapezoid gear motor.
In order to remove the gear motor from the trapezoid: remember the position of the crank (you can mark it with a marker), remove it with a key set to “13”, and use a key set to “10” to unscrew the three fastenings of the motor to the trapezoid.
