Chevrolet Lacetti 5D Lacher › Logbook › Replacing the fuel pump)
When I bought the Lacher, the only two drawbacks that I wanted to get rid of first of all were the parking brake not working, and the fuel pump being terribly noisy at the last of its strength.
And finally, after so much time after the purchase, I finally decided to deal with these terribly annoying shortcomings. And I decided to start with the fuel pump. I apologize in advance for the quality of the photos; I photographed everything on my phone during the repair process, so the quality is not very good. In general, to save money, we purchased not an original fuel pump, but a universal one. Since in half of our stores they told me that “in our city you won’t find a separate motor, but only an assembled fuel pump,” and I couldn’t afford such an investment yet, and I don’t really see the point in it either. so this fuel pump was purchased:
A fuel filter and mesh were also immediately purchased for it.
After the purchase, I immediately went to my friend JinnCh’s garage (for which I thank him very much, he always helps out) and began to replace it.
Since this was my first time changing the fuel filter on a Lacetti, I decided to first search the Internet for how to do it. First, I relieved the pressure in the system; to do this, you need to remove the fuse from the block responsible for the fuel pump circuit.
Then we start the engine and wait for it to stop. Then we turn the starter for a couple of seconds and put the fuse in place.
After these shenanigans, we move into the cabin, or rather into the back seat. We take off the rear seat and see this picture:
This cover is glued with mastic, so we carefully pry it off with a screwdriver and begin to slowly peel off this mastic in a circle. Opening the lid we see a bunch of dust and dirt. I just vacuumed it all up. so that dirt does not get into the tank.
Then disconnect the block and fuel hoses. You need to be careful with the clamps on the hoses; they are quite fragile. And we begin by gently hitting something like a screwdriver with a hammer to turn the retaining ring counterclockwise. And we take out the fuel pump itself without damaging the fuel level sensor.
Next, you need to remove the fuel pump holder from the glass. To do this, disconnect the two pads and unclip the latches in a circle and lift them slightly. Now the pressure regulator is stuck, we pry it off with a screwdriver. And voila we got to the insides.
Naturally, I was simply shocked by the state of the mesh; it was so clogged that it was hard as a rock!
Well, now you have to suffer a little to remove the cover from the holder, since you have to press both latches at once, and the spring inside also pushes them away. Well, after that we heat the pipes with a hairdryer and replace the old motor with a new one.
We install a new mesh and collect everything in a heap)
Well, all the torment is over. I am very pleased with the repairs made. the terrible noise in the cabin and outside disappeared, it became much quieter) And the engine stopped tuning))
Replacing the Chevrolet Lacetti fuel pump
In most cases, the fuel pump is replaced due to its breakdown. Symptoms that indicate a non-working fuel pump are that the car simply will not start and the noise from under the rear seat, which indicates that the fuel pump is working, is simply not heard. The main reasons for fuel pump failure is poor fuel quality. It is also not uncommon for the fuel pump to fail due to a constantly low amount of fuel in the tank, which forces gasoline to be pumped through the system without stopping.
Video materials
The video will tell you how to properly replace the fuel pump on a car, and also tell you about some of the tricks of the operations.
Replacing the Chevrolet Lacetti fuel pump
Chevrolet Lacetti cars are equipped with a non-separable fuel module, which ensures fuel supply through the system. If a malfunction occurs in one of the components of the fuel pump, it will have to be replaced completely as an assembly. The need for replacement may be caused if the engine control system generates an error or if the operating fuel pressure does not match.
To carry out the operation of replacing the fuel module yourself, you will need a sealant and a multimeter. Before you begin replacement, study the safety rules for work related to the engine control system.
Replacement process
Let's start with the fact that the fuel pump is sold assembled, which simplifies the replacement process. With special tools, you only need a puller key to remove the disk, but you can make do with improvised means so as not to waste money.
So, let's proceed directly to the process:
- We climb into the cabin from the back, since we will have to dismantle the rear sofa.
- Under the sofa you can see a hole that will allow you to get to the fuel pump.
- We pry up the seal and pull it up.
- Remove the fuel pump access cover.
- Now you need to turn off the power.
- Next, we relieve the pressure in the fuel system. We unclip the fuel supply latches.
- Next comes the hardest part. It is necessary to turn the locking disk counterclockwise and release it from the mounting clips. In theory, there is probably a special key puller provided.
- We remove the disk from its seat.
- We take out the fuel pump directly. Next, disconnect the wiring harness on the pump.
- We are collecting.

Fuel filters from different manufacturers.
So, let's consider the sequence of actions aimed at replacing the fuel filter element:
- In order not to remove the negative terminal, you can remove the fuse that controls the fuel pump.
Remove the fuel pump fuse. - Let's crawl under the car. Accordingly, you will need a hole. And disconnect the grounding of the fuel filter. Disconnect the grounding. Disconnect the grounding cable completely.
- On the Lacetti, the fuel filter element is protected by a plastic casing, which is secured with a 10mm bolt. It must be unscrewed. Unscrew the protective cover. Remove the protective cover.
- Remove the protective casing from the filter.
- Using a small screwdriver, disconnect the fuel pipe clamp from the filter.
Disconnect the fuel line with the white chip. - On the second side you need to do the same operation.
Disconnect the fuel line with the blue chip. - Now you can remove the filter itself.
Unscrew the filter fastening to the body. - Installation is carried out in reverse order.
Remove the filter and install a new one.
It is worth remembering that the fuel pump fuse was first removed, so it needs to be put back in place.

Why do you need a Lacetti fuel pump?
The Chevrolet Lacetti fuel pump (fuel module) is installed in the car’s gas tank and has a capacity of at least 60 l/h. Its task is to ensure preliminary purification of gasoline, create the necessary fuel pressure on the injectors (about 4 atmospheres) and dump excess fuel back into the tank. Also ensure control of the fuel level in the tank and signal its minimum reserve balance.
It is for these purposes that the fuel module consists of an electric liquid pump, a mesh filter, a pressure regulator, a fuel level sensor with a float and a reserve signal lamp sensor. Access to the fuel module is provided from inside the car with the rear seat removed.
Replacing the Lacetti fuel pump
To remove the Lacetti fuel pump, the first step is to relieve the pressure in the fuel system. How to do this is described in detail in this article.
Disconnect the terminal from the negative terminal of the battery.
Next you need to remove the rear sofa. It is attached with only two clamps. You need to grab the sofa in the places shown in circles and sharply pull up, first in one place, and then in the second. The red arrow shows the fuel pump hatch
How to remove the rear sofa of the Lacetti
The hatch is glued with mastic, so we pry it up with a screwdriver and, overcoming the resistance of the mastic, remove it.
Note: Do not break the wires going through the hatch to the connector!
We see a connector, two fuel lines (supply and return), a retaining ring, as well as a lot of dust and cobwebs.
Garbage must be removed so that it does not end up in the tank. The easiest way to do this is with a vacuum cleaner.
Attention! The vacuum cleaner can only be used until you have removed the fuel lines and opened access to the tank. As soon as you depressurize the system, hide any power tool somewhere further away.
Disconnect the connector. To do this, move the orange latch to the side...
...and, pressing the latch tongue, remove the connector
We remove the fuel lines. To do this, press the latch and pull the fitting up
But sometimes this does not help, so it would be better to pull out the latch. Using a screwdriver, carefully pry it off on one side and use something thin to help pull it out on the other.
Here is the latch itself
After this, remove the fuel line from the fitting
Now you need to turn the metal retaining ring slightly counterclockwise. To do this, gently hit the ring with a hammer in a circle through the adapter until it disengages. You can come up with other ways to turn the ring. For example, with sliding pliers. But not everyone has them, but a hammer can definitely be found everywhere)))
Remove the retaining ring
Now we remove the Lacetti fuel pump from the tank. Just be careful not to damage the fuel level sensor with float
Since there is still a lot of gasoline left in the fuel module, it is convenient to put it in a cut-off plastic bottle for now
It is also necessary to remove the rubber sealing ring. Clean it and the seat.
Put the clean ring in place and cover the hole in the tank so that no debris gets in there and the interior does not stink too much while we disassemble the fuel module
Selecting a fuel pump and module
Replacing the entire fuel module is rarely necessary.
It is made in a plastic case, inside of which there is an electric fuel pump, a gasoline coarse filter to protect the pump from solid fractions, a fuel level sensor with a float, and a low fuel level sensor in the tank. In short, there are not many reasons to completely replace the module.
Module article number
By the way, the price of an assembled module ranges from 4 to 6 thousand rubles, depending on the manufacturer. The stock module (catalog number PDCM008) from the RMC company costs 4,560 rubles.
Fuel pump part numbers
Most often the fuel pump itself fails.
Bosch fuel pump
Fortunately, several options are suitable for the Lacetti, varying in cost. However, when choosing, you need to take into account that each of the pumps has its own very important characteristics - maximum pressure and performance. For 1.4 and 1.6 liter Chevrolet Lacetti engines, the regulatory pressure developed by the pump should be 3.8 atm, and the productivity should be 60 l/hour .
Based on this, several options can be considered:
- Bosch 0 580 454 001 , productivity 110 l/h, too much for the Lacetti;
- Bosch 0 580 453 453 , productivity - 60 l/hour, just right;
- Bosch 0 580 453 140 - 90 l/h, with a reserve.
The pressure in all these pumps is about 5 atm, but the excess is removed by pressure reducing valves in the pump itself and in the fuel rail.
The price of these pumps is approximately the same - about 2–2.3 thousand rubles. There are more expensive models, but practice shows that overpayment is not justified.

Location of the fuel pump on the Chevrolet Lacetti and the reasons for its failure
The Chevrolet Lacetti gasoline pump is located in the fuel assembly. This module is immersed in the gas tank. To see the fuel pump, you need to open the service hole, which is located under the trim located under the rear seats.
The most common reasons why the fuel pump fails are listed below:
- constant operation of the machine with an almost empty tank;
- clogged fuel filter;
- the presence of water or any foreign technical liquids in the gas tank;
- refueling with counterfeit gasoline;
- a large amount of debris in the fuel;
- oxidation of the terminal block, causing instability of the electric motor power supply;
- pump overheating.
Replacing the fuel pump for Chevrolet Lacetti 1.6, changing the fuel pump turbine
One of the important elements in the design of a car is the fuel pump . This Chevrolet Lacetti spare part belongs to the category of electric submersible pumps. It is located directly in the fuel tank .
The main purpose of the fuel pump is to carefully dose the fuel supply from the tank to engine . This part is also responsible for maintaining stable operating pressure in the range specified by the manufacturer.
There are several main elements in the design of a fuel pump:
- Electric liquid pump.
- Mesh filter.
- Pressure regulator.
- sensor with float.
- Low fuel level sensor.
The service life of the Chevrolet Lacetti fuel pump is 150-200 thousand km. However, the first problems in its operation may appear after a run of 100 thousand km. The part is very sensitive to the quality of the fuel used.
There are several factors that can significantly reduce the life of a fuel pump:
- Overheating due to low fuel level or dry operation, as well as poor cooling, which usually results in the engine burning out.
- Water in the fuel, resulting in the formation of condensation, leading to corrosion on the tank and metal parts of the pump.
- Mechanical impurities in the fuel, which not only clog coarse filter
- Electrical wiring , which over time can burn out, break due to vibrations and receive other damage, oxidation of contacts is also possible.
However, we should not exclude other negative factors that may affect the performance of the fuel pump.
The following factors may indicate problems in the operation of the Chevrolet Lacetti fuel pump:
- Increased pump noise and the appearance of extraneous sounds.
- Difficulties in engine operation when the gas pedal is sharply pressed, which may be caused by insufficient fuel supply.
- The engine stalls periodically, especially if it is warmed up.
- There are problems starting the engine.
To extend the life of the gas pump, experts advise not to allow the fuel level in the tank to drop below 5-10 liters. This will effectively cool the pump and minimize the likelihood of large, heavy particles of mechanical impurities being sucked in.

An unsuitable O-ring will require replacement.
- Clean the edges and manhole cover of any old sealant or traces of mastic. Replace the fuel module assembly, and then reassemble all the removed parts in reverse order. The tips on the pipeline will have different diameters; it will correspond to the fittings on the fuel module. Secure the hatch cover to the floor using sealant. It is possible that the fuel strainer of the fuel pump will need to be replaced, in which case you will have to disassemble the module and replace it.
Location of the fuel filter on the Chevrolet Lacetti and the reasons for the need to replace it
The fuel filter is located under the bottom of the Chevrolet Lacetti. It is located under the front of the gas tank. The filter is on the right side of the tank. To gain access to the filter element, you need to remove the wheel and lift the right rear part of the machine.
During operation of the Chevrolet Lacetti, the fuel filter cleans the fuel being poured from mechanical impurities. This prevents clogging of the injectors, making the fuel system more reliable and durable.
The service life of the filter depends on the degree of contamination of gasoline. If the fuel pump does not pump the required amount of fuel into the circuit, then first of all you should check the filter and, if necessary, replace it with a new one. If the required pressure does not appear in the fuel system, then the fuel pump should be diagnosed.
