How to replace and adjust the king pin on UAZ Patriot bearings with your own hands

Replacing king pins for UAZ Hunter

The UAZ Hunter ball pins are adjusted when axial play appears in them, when disassembling the steering knuckle or replacing ball pins with liners.
To replace the pins you will need: 19, 22, 24 keys, a special device for removing and installing Hunter ball pin bushings and a torque wrench. Put the car on the handbrake, place chocks under the rear wheels of the car, jack up the front of the car and remove the wheel

Remove the steering knuckle and secure it in a vice

Unscrew the nut, remove the lining and gasket

Unscrew the clamping sleeve using a special tool. Remove the ball pin of the UAZ Hunter, similarly remove the second pin and remove the ball joint

Using a screwdriver, remove the pin inserts from the support. Install the ball joint into the steering knuckle, lubricate the spherical surface of the bearings with Litol-24 grease and install the pins

Screw in the clamping bushings evenly on both sides until the pins stop. Ensure uniform dimensions from the ends of the steering knuckle housing to the ball joint sphere. A size difference of no more than 0.2 mm is allowed. Tighten the clamping sleeves one by one, increasing the force by 20–30 N m (2–3 kgf m), then finally tighten the clamping sleeves. Fill the cavities above the clamping bushings with Litol-24 grease and install the linings with gaskets and tighten the nuts. Install the steering knuckle of the UAZ Hunter and check the turning force relative to the king pins in any direction, it should be 10–15 Nm (1.0–1.5 kgf m). Install the parts in the reverse order of removal and adjust the front hub bearings. This completes the replacement and adjustment of the UAZ Hunter pins.

Instructions

So, how to replace this mechanism yourself? First, the car is installed on a viewing hole or lift. Next, you need to hang the front wheel with the faulty kingpin. Then you need to get to the steering rod bipod. The nuts must be unscrewed using a 24mm wrench. The lubricating bolt of the pivot assembly is also removed.
