Dashboard upgrade
The main problem of the dashboard on the VAZ 2110 is that it is very soft and can be deformed even when poked with a finger. Therefore, car owners strive to strengthen it. Here's what you need for this:
- screwdriver with a set of open-end wrenches;
- sandpaper;
- epoxy resin;
- polyurethane foam;
- fiberglass.
Sequencing
The main thing that the driver must understand is that you need to work with the panel very carefully. It's easy to break.
- Since it is impossible to work with the panel inside the cabin, it will have to be removed by unscrewing the fasteners with a Phillips screwdriver.
To modernize the dashboard it will have to be removed from the “ten” - The removed panel is thoroughly cleaned of dust and dirt. This is done using a piece of dry rag.
- A thin layer of polyurethane foam is applied to the cleaned outer surface of the panel.
- When the foam hardens, it is given the desired shape using sandpaper.
The polyurethane foam on the surface of the panel hardened and was treated with sandpaper - The resulting surface must be strengthened. To do this, fiberglass is laid on it in several layers, which is fixed with epoxy resin. After the glue has dried, the surface is sanded again.
- Now all that remains is to cover the panel with high-quality vinyl film. Its choice depends on the driver’s preferences. Many people choose film painted to look like carbon.
Front strut
The most popular element, widely used by many owners of Russian cars, is the front cross brace.
Its installation is carried out in the area of the upper shock absorber supports, by securing it between the strut cups.
The main purpose of this part is to increase the angular rigidity of the body and improve the handling quality of the vehicle.
In addition, the presence of a spacer helps eliminate the “floating” geometry of the suspension arms, which occurs as a result of strong impacts on road potholes or uneven surfaces.
The main reason why many car enthusiasts, in particular owners of VAZ cars, make such modifications is due to insufficient body rigidity, which contributes to deterioration of handling, a feeling of “sluggish” steering and excessive roll that occurs when performing maneuvers.
This is detected only when driving at high speeds, mainly associated with trips on country roads.
Those drivers who spend most of their time within the city and are accustomed to a calm, leisurely drive may not notice these shortcomings.
Improving instrument lighting
The dashboard lighting on the VAZ 2110 has never been bright, since it uses ordinary incandescent light bulbs. Therefore, drivers often replace them with LEDs. They are brighter. And they last longer.
Sequence of operations
To install the LEDs, you will first have to remove the instrument cluster from the panel. The light bulb sockets are located on the back wall of this unit, and there is no other way to reach them.
- The steering wheel of the car is set to its lowest position.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew two self-tapping screws located above the devices.
- After this, the decorative trim can be pulled out by pulling it towards you.
- Below it there are 3 more screws that hold the instrument unit with light bulbs. The screws are unscrewed with the same Phillips screwdriver.
- The instrument unit is removed. All wires are disconnected from the rear panel. The incandescent light bulbs are removed and replaced with LEDs.

Power unit
Refinement of the dozen would be meaningless without engine modernization. Professionals recommend starting with it. First you need to replace all worn parts and components.
You can also take care of increasing the engine displacement from 1500 to 1600 cubic centimeters.
Replacing the crankshaft
The main method of increasing engine power up to 1.6 liters is by optimizing the piston stroke from the factory 71 mm to 74.8 mm. This procedure is performed by replacing the crankshaft and the pistons themselves. There are different options for replacing pistons:
- installation of forged pistons with dimensions of 82.0, 84.0, 82.5 or 82.4 mm - they can be T-shaped or regular;
- installation of standard machined pistons;
- installation of used pistons 21213 with mechanical modification, which involves replacing the connecting rods for a floating piston pin.
In addition to the popular 74.8mm stroke crankshaft, you can purchase the little-used 75.6mm stroke crankshaft, allowing displacement up to 1,862cc. All configurations fit into a standard block, but the torsional resistance of the motor may be reduced. For this reason, it is better to limit the engine volume to no more than 1.6 liters.
Camshaft replacement
Replacing this part allows you to increase engine power, increase overall technical characteristics and acceleration dynamics. In this case, one factor must be taken into account: replacing all camshaft elements with modernized or sports ones must be replaced as a set. That is, replacing one thing will not give any results.
To remove the camshaft, proceed as follows:
- remove the plastic protection of the alternator belt;
- open the cylinder head cover;
- remove the timing belt, holding the camshaft with a mounting rod (to avoid damaging the cylinder head, you need to place a wooden plate under the mount);
- unscrew the camshaft mounting bolt;
- remove the key with the gear wheel.
Experts recommend numbering the main bearing caps to avoid confusion during reassembly. You can also mark the disc tappets if you are replacing them too. The new upgraded camshaft is installed in the reverse order.
After installing a sports camshaft, the engine will no longer “knock your toes” as before.
Replacing the control unit
This work is also usually classified as general tuning of the VAZ 2110. At the factory, the cars are equipped with old Bosch units, which experts recommend replacing with new ECMs from General Motors.
Steering wheel cover
Without braiding, the steering wheel on the VAZ 2110 seems thin and slippery, which does not have the best effect on driving safety. So after buying a car, car owners usually install a braid on the steering wheel. You should choose size “M”, intended for steering wheels with a diameter of up to 39 cm (this is the standard wheel for the VAZ 2110).

About replacing seats
The standard seats on the VAZ 2110 have never been comfortable. Therefore, car enthusiasts replace them with seats from the following cars: Skoda Octavia A5, Hyundai i30 or BMW E60.

It is not possible to install them in a garage, since the fastenings will have to be seriously modified and reworked. Chassis
Having provided the power unit of your car with a new breath, it’s time for the chassis. Suspension, transmission, upper strut mounts - all can be replaced.
Gear box
Refinement of this unit involves replacing the differential main gear and secondary shaft. Instead of a gear ratio of 3.7 or 3.94, 4.13 is created, which makes it possible to significantly increase the acceleration dynamics of the vehicle. Changing the gear ratio to 4.13 provides the following advantages:
- improved acceleration without increasing consumption;
- minimal increase in speed at high speeds (increases by 500 revolutions);
- the ability to start driving from second gear;
- increasing the maximum speed of the VAZ 2110;
- increase in torque.

Rapid tire wear is directly related to improper operation of the machine. Sharp acceleration and braking, overloads often cause tire wear. But often this situation arises:
