In the list of options you can find not only the bells and whistles required for this class, but also a number of pleasant extras. Among them are cruise control, remote engine start Renault Start, a multimedia system with a seven-inch display and navigation.

New power plant

Its main feature is the CVT X-Tronic variator, never seen before on Logans. The continuously variable transmission is combined with the most powerful engine in the range, a 113-horsepower 1.6-liter unit. The variator is configured to provide minimal response to pressing the gas pedal and simulate step shifts, as in a classic automatic transmission.

In addition to good dynamics and ease of traction control, the Logan Stepway City with CVT is economical. In the combined cycle, the declared gasoline consumption is 6.7 l/100 km versus 6.8 l/100 km for a similar car with a manual transmission.

However, not everything is so rosy. Logan, like any other car, has its drawbacks. Or, if you prefer, features that some owners will easily get used to.

Ergonomics

In an effort to make the car affordable (which was successful), the designers were forced to make a number of compromises. In particular, this is manifested in the absence of central armrests, both front and rear, as well as in the non-standard arrangement of some keys. However, they only cause inconvenience during the period of getting used to the car. If the owner drives regularly, then after a few weeks he begins to look for the buttons where they are located. For example, the buttons for turning on cruise control and rear windows are on the center console, under the climate system unit.

Weak base engine

In the initial version, the Renault Logan Stepway is equipped with an eight-valve engine with an output of 82 hp. This choice is also partly explained by the desire to keep the price of the car within an attractive range. But when choosing the basic version, you should carefully consider whether the capabilities of this power unit are enough for you. Driving on the highway or with a full load will make you forget about the usual acceleration dynamics.

However, this feature is not difficult to turn into a plus. The transport tax on the weak Logan Stepway is more modest than that of its competitors, many of which are less than 100 hp. They don't offer it at all. For a driver without sporting ambitions, this argument will be very strong.

Renault Logan ground clearance

Renault Logan is a compact sedan car produced since 2012. This is Renault's best-selling model, which belongs to class B, and is in the same price category as Daewoo Nexia, Fiat Albea, Lada Granta, Hyundai Accent and other budget models. It should also be recognized that Logan is the most affordable foreign car in Russia among well-known brands. It should be noted that Renault Logan is known as Dacia Logan in the European market. Since the first release of Renault Logan, manufacturers have listened to the criticism and comments of owners and thought about how to satisfy their wishes while maintaining the same price for the car. The result of their efforts was the New Renault Logan. Let's look at this car and find out what it is, is it really a new generation of Logan, or just a restyling?

The modern car buyer is most interested in appearance and price, so manufacturers didn’t really think about what platform to build this car on, and you are looking at the good old B0, on which you installed a nice, modernized body, including due to new materials. And I must say that it turned out very well. And this is not the first Logan, which with its entire appearance literally screamed about its budget, but at the same time, the new Logan does not try to claim with its appearance a car of a higher class, as some other budget models do.

The front end of the car has been redesigned not just for looks, but also to be caring for pedestrians. For this purpose, optimal materials, shape and rigidity of the front body and bumper were selected, so that in the event of a possible impact, it would be softened as much as possible. Safety for car passengers has improved - they are protected by a stronger safety frame (cage) of the body. And child seats can now be secured in the rear seat using a special Isofix mount.

A new and very useful feature has appeared in lighting technology - running lights, which turn on automatically after the engine is started. A stabilization system has appeared, let's see if it will be retained for the Russian market.

Sitting in the cabin of the new Renault Logan, one can note the absence of the feeling of asceticism and extreme modesty that were inherent in the previous Renault Logan. In the old model, even in the top-end configuration, this feeling did not leave. Now everything here has been reworked by designers and ergonomists. The central console, on which the heating and ventilation control unit was located, became more convenient to use and “turned” to face the driver. The adjustment of the rear-view mirrors has moved to a new location from under the handbrake to the instrument panel closer to the driver's door, where it belongs. By the way, the view of the right mirror is now no longer obstructed by the door frame. But the location of the buzzer was never corrected - it remained in the same place - on the steering column switch. Cruise control and touch screen navigation have appeared.

What's under the hood? This is a new three-cylinder turbocharged engine with a volume of 0.9 liters, which is characterized by increased vibration transmitted to the car, and accordingly to the driver. The average driver may not notice the difference between the new engine and the old 16-valve 1.6 liter. Engine, but fans of active driving will most likely not like it. However, racers don’t buy Renault Logan. But the interior of the car has become significantly quieter, not only due to the less noisy engine, but also due to enhanced sound insulation. But the most important thing is fuel consumption: a little more than five liters per 100 kilometers, outside the city!

The car is satisfactory in most respects - the main thing is that it has a smooth ride, a minimum set of functions, space in the back seat and excellent maneuverability on our roads. Renault Logan has all this, although the car itself is too budget-friendly. I liked this model due to the fact that it is adapted to Russian conditions. It has a ground clearance of 155 mm, minimal body overhangs, a smooth ride and good dynamics. There is no escape from the noise and vibrations of the 1.6-liter engine, but my passengers just want to quickly get from point A to point B. The suspension allows this, including driving on bad roads, rough terrain, etc.
  • Oleg, Stavropol region. I'm driving my second Logan. I'm used to this car - I've been driving it since 2004. I bought the first generation on pre-order. Despite its old-fashioned, angular appearance, in all other respects the Logan is an excellent budget car. It has a full five-seater cabin, and there is plenty of space above the head and in the leg area. The front panel is like Duster's, very hard and creaky. Build quality is top four. Having switched to the second generation, I immediately felt the difference. Yes, we are still far from ideal, but the progress is tangible. In addition, I have a variant with a 1.6-liter engine, which is almost twice as fast as the 75-horsepower 1.4-liter engine. The car sets up for a dynamic ride, even despite the roll in corners and the soft suspension. Naturally, in addition to Logan, I had other options based on Logan - this is Sandero, and MCV, and a station wagon. But I just can’t get used to the sedan, and in the end I bought another Logan. This is a suitable car for Russian roads, because it has a soft suspension and ground clearance of 155 mm.
  • Alexander, Klin. I bought Logan in 2015, with a mileage of 68 thousand km. The car is from 2006, the version before restyling. I needed a car for taxi work, and at the same time I repainted it yellow to somehow match, to freshen up the car. The car was almost free of corrosion, except that “flowers” ​​appeared on the side sills. Logan consumes 8-9 liters per 100 km. The car with a 1.6-liter 96-horsepower engine is quite dynamic and confidently handles city traffic. In general, there are no complaints about the car’s behavior in urban conditions. On the other hand, the car has too long-travel and soft suspension, and a considerable ground clearance of 155 - by car standards. All this somewhat worsens behavior on the highway, rolls and lateral rocking of the body occur. But this does not spoil the overall impression of the car.
  • Alexey, Kaluga region. I value reliability, handling and ergonomics in cars. Logan has all this - a 2015 car, with an 82-horsepower 1.5-liter engine and a manual transmission. I chose not to take the option with an automatic transmission, which only consumes fuel and is not fast at changing gears. Therefore, mechanics became a justified choice. I believe that the new Logan looks much more solid and at the same time recognizable, not like the old generation Logan. Actually, that’s why I didn’t want to buy the first Logan, but I really wanted to. The second generation car was released in 2012, but despite this, it still looks fresh. Only in the interior there are minimal changes, and the finishing materials do not cause delight. The creaky interior did not impress me at all. I have a package with air conditioning, heated seats and power windows. A large trunk, a roomy interior, good ergonomics, ease of control - perhaps nothing else is needed for a family-friendly and practical car with a high ground clearance of 155 mm and an energy-intensive suspension. If only you don't find fault. And Logan has plenty of shortcomings, but for that kind of money it’s a shame to find fault.

A car with a manual transmission is many times better than the old generation. It has a completely mature appearance and a higher quality and modern interior. By the standards of the budget class, Logan looks great inside and out, there’s nothing to dig into. And this is not my maximum configuration yet. I will say a huge thank you to the designers who managed to modernize the car and at the same time maintain continuity. As for all sorts of frills, it’s foolish to expect them from a budget car. And it’s better to feel the plastic in premium cars, and be less picky. Just drive and don’t complain, because Logan is reliable and handles great. Its ground clearance is just right for our roads - 155 mm. And an energy-intensive suspension and minimal body overhangs. There is nothing to break in a simple design.

At the same time, we didn’t want to buy a cheap Chinese fake, so we chose among well-known brands. We bought Renault Logan in 2015, and we still don’t regret it. I added and bought Logan in the most basic configuration - with a 1.4-liter 75-horsepower engine and manual transmission. The car was produced in 2011, with a ground clearance of 155 mm. I praise the car for its energy-intensive suspension, smooth ride and good cross-country ability. The suspension travel is quite large, but this negatively affects the ease of control at high speeds - the car rolls heavily. The steering mechanism is quite informative, the wheels obey the steering wheel well, but the whole point is due to the excessive roll and soft suspension. However, it is comfortable to drive on broken roads and potholes.
  • Mikhail, Smolensk. The car was purchased in 2010 for 450 thousand rubles. Equipment after restyling, version with 1.6-liter 84-horsepower engine and manual transmission. It’s a shame that I didn’t ignore the reviews and didn’t fork out for the 1.6-liter version with a capacity of 102 horsepower. After 15 thousand km, I had to change the tie rod ends, then the ball joints, then it was time to buy new brake discs - they were worn out like 100 thousand kilometers. And this despite the fact that I am 66 years old and I prefer to drive carefully, mostly on asphalt. I hoped that Logan was suitable for Russian roads, but my reliability was not justified. Even European versions are more reliable and comfortable. Maintenance is inexpensive, consumables are among the cheapest. Ground clearance of 155 mm is normal for our roads. I weigh 105 kg and height 177 cm, and despite this I can easily sit on the seat thanks to the large door opening.

At the Moscow Motor Show in two thousand and eighteen, the presentation of the new Renault Logan Stepway 2021 took place, which is an all-terrain modification of the regular Logan. The sedan has never had such a version before.

The first sensations inside the car did not cause delight: the budget is the budget. But the presence of high ground clearance, climate control, remote starting, a display with a navigator, music controls on the steering wheel, as well as an additional option - an armrest, compensate for skepticism.

I made the choice in favor of the engine on the new Logan Stepway for simple reasons: time-tested, reliable, cheaper to operate and tax, it can also be easily reflashed; I am ready to put up with its shortcomings. But in 2018-2019, the 8-valve engine became the weakest in the line, Renault’s previous 16-valve internal combustion engine remained, and a chain internal combustion engine from Nissan Qashqai appeared.

Consumption pleases - 8.7 in the city. At first it was unusual to drive with an electronic pedal; there is a second delay when pressing - now I seem to have gotten used to it. My brains have worked so well that I don’t notice the A/C running on the stock engine! Speaking of air conditioning, it is now Nissan’s with its own operating algorithm, this is also noticeable in comparison.

The antenna was moved further from the windshield and its mount is now exactly above the interior ceiling. There is now only one hole in the roof, the antenna is attached through a rubber seal and I think the problem is now solved. It's nice when a manufacturer works on their mistakes, even if they are minor.

The continuously variable transmission, of course, steals the dynamics a little, but not critically. The car accelerates well and has enough traction throughout the entire speed range. The variator quickly changes its gear ratios. In this case, the tachometer needle freezes at one point.

Especially for those who don’t like it, at maximum acceleration the tachometer needle drops by 700–800 rpm, simulating a gear shift.

Appearance

The feed of ordinary Tolyatti sedans and hatchbacks (Stepway versions complement the range there) is completely old. Savings, however: stamped parts are expensive to replace. The European twins under the Dacia brand also lost cosmetics on the rear lights, and the license plate, like the restyled Lada Granta, moved to a niche on the trunk lid - so the sirloin part looks less heavy.

The halogen headlights of all versions of the Renault Logan Stepway have acquired diode running lights, but still do not offer powerful high beams. So Logan, who stood on his tiptoes, was lucky. After all, it also has a skirt made of unpainted plastic along the sides, and a front end like the Renault Sandero Stepway model, and a unique rear bumper.

Salon

To save money, the mirrors on the sunblinds did not receive plugs, so the driver and passenger have to choose between keeping the sunblind down and looking at the sun, or lowering it and looking at their reflection. At the same time, the interior of the Renault Logan Stepway 2020 is relatively spacious, the back row of the sedan gives the rear passengers’ legs more freedom than in a hatchback, and the trunk is still large.

And if this was information for those who have never sat in a car before, then for seasoned Logan drivers there is another paragraph - a song for the ears: a new three-spoke steering wheel made of more pleasant materials appeared in the cabin, the gas tank flap finally began to be opened without a key using a lever from the salon.

The turn signals on the Logan Stepway have learned to blink briefly when you touch the switch, and an engine temperature indicator is located on the dashboard. Rear passengers are given a proper cup holder, hopefully stopping them from spilling their sticky soda on your favorite fuzzy floor mats.
