In the car Daewoo Lanos the so-called gearbox control drive, which was popularly dubbed the “scene” or “helicopter”. The drawstring has a very decent service life. If you switch speeds correctly, the helicopter can last for 150,000 (km) mileage. But nothing lasts forever, so even the backstage gives in over time to the onslaught of mechanical wear.
The Daewoo Lanos gearbox control drive is an alternative to the cable, with the help of which in cars of previous generations the process of selecting/shifting gears took place.

The ZAZ Lanos link connects lever in the cabin with the gear selection and shift mechanism at the gearbox. With increasing mileage, the hinge joints of the rocker panels wear out, which leads to the appearance of numerous backlashes . As a result, when switching speeds, gears begin to engage with great difficulty.
The wear and tear of the ZAZ Lanos helicopter is easy to identify. When using an old drawstring, the following symptoms may occur:
- There is play in the gear shift lever
- There is no clear movement of the lever when turning on the gears
- are missing , it is impossible to “feel” them
To finally make sure that the slide is worn, you need to pull rods . In a worn-out link there will definitely be some play, and the rods will move strongly.
What is a gearbox rocker?
Replacing or repairing any part on a car must begin with studying its design and purpose. Quite a few drivers call the gearshift lever a rocker, which is not entirely true. This comes from rear-wheel drive cars, where the gear shift knob is located on the gearbox housing, and does not have additional drive parts. The link is a composite element that plays the role of a connecting link between the lever and the rod of the gear selection mechanism.
The rocker on Lanos and Chance 1.5 cars is located in the engine compartment, so the procedure for replacing it does not require an inspection hole. Due to the impact of loads (meaning constant gear shifting), the element is subject to wear. That is why the important requirements of the device are strength and reliability. Even under such conditions, the part wears out over time and needs to be repaired or replaced.
Gearbox design
The reason for the rapid failure of the scenes on Lanos is exposure to moisture, dust and natural wear. The safety factor decreases with an aggressive driving style, so the service life of the part depends on many factors.
This is interesting!
The average service life of this element is 100-150 thousand kilometers. But this does not mean at all that if the car has a high mileage and the part has not yet been replaced, then you need to immediately resort to the procedure. If there are no signs of malfunction of the link on a Lanos with high mileage, it is recommended to diagnose it. There are no difficulties with this either.
General structure of the Lanos gear shift mechanism
The linkage on a manual transmission is a connecting element between the lever and the gearbox itself. The design for each car model is different, as manufacturers are constantly striving to improve the device, thereby increasing reliability and service life. The Lanos backstage consists of the following key elements:
- body, presented in the form of a plate;
- fork and connecting pin with locking ring;
- rocker fastening bolt;
- rod for connecting the part with the gear shift lever.
On Lanos cars, the wing is also called a helicopter due to its design features (it is similar to helicopter blades). Below is a part assembled with a gearbox rod for Lanos 1.5/1.6 and Chance 1.5 cars.
The design of this mechanism is quite simple, and in the event of a malfunction, each owner will be able to independently cope with repairs and replacements. However, there is no need to rush to change the entire mechanism, since first you need to find out the cause of the breakdown. Depending on the type of breakdown, it is possible to eliminate the resulting malfunctions using the Lanos gearbox repair kit.
How to determine a malfunction of the backstage on Lanos
When the first signs of wear on the gear shift mechanism appear, it is necessary to resort to eliminating them. After all, a malfunction of the rocker will lead to the inability to drive the car. Although the mechanism is quite reliable, if it has a high mileage and corresponding signs of malfunction, it will need to be serviced, repaired or replaced. Symptoms of wear on the backstage on Lanos are:
- Gearbox lever play.
This is the main factor that indicates wear of the mechanism on the car. The presence of free play can be determined by moving the lever to the neutral position. If, while in this position, the lever moves freely back and forth (without turning on the speed), then this is the main sign of wear on the mechanism. A similar play is present when the speed is on. - Difficulty changing gears.
The consequence of untimely repair is the inability to engage any gear. Such difficulties are very dangerous, as they negatively affect traffic safety and can create an emergency situation. - Crunching noise when shifting gears
. Most often, this sound occurs when the reverse and first gears are engaged, which is a sign of the need for maintenance and repair of the gearbox on Lanos. - Difficulty switching gears, as well as difficulty getting into the appropriate gear.
On Lanos and Chance cars, when the rocker is worn out, reverse gear is often switched on instead of first gear; first gear may be switched on instead of reverse gear.
Play or looseness of the gearshift lever on a Lanos is not only the main, but also the first sign of wear on the shift mechanism. Soon after, more serious consequences appear that make drivers consider the need for repairs.
This is interesting!
It is important to understand that if there is play, the link can be adjusted or repaired without the need to replace it. If a crunching noise or difficulty shifting gears occurs, in most cases it may be necessary to replace the entire mechanism. In each specific case, it is necessary to initially determine the malfunction, and only then resort to appropriate repairs.
Chevrolet Lanos backstage: adjustment and replacement
The Chevrolet Lanos backstage is like an intermediary between the gearbox lever in the cabin and the gearbox itself. They transmit movement from the gearshift lever to the shafts. The link is available in absolutely all cars with a manual transmission, as well as in some models of automatic transmissions. The Chevrolet Lanos gear shift lever is located under the floor of the car interior. In this article we will tell you how to adjust the rocker on a Chevrolet Lanos and how to replace it.
The danger of driving a Lanos with a faulty rocker
Even a small play in the gearshift lever is an important sign of the need for diagnostics. If a connection failure occurs during operation of the vehicle, the driver will not be able to change gear. It is precisely when such a situation arises that the risk of creating an emergency situation on the road increases.
It is recommended to continue to operate the vehicle with a faulty gear shift mechanism:
- do not exceed speed;
- maintain distance between cars;
- always be prepared for the fact that the gears may fail and you will need to make an emergency stop of the car;
- Operate a vehicle with a faulty gearbox part as little as possible until the defect is eliminated.
The above actions will help prevent an emergency situation on the road. Many people know about the problems of their car, and always hope that the safety margin of a faulty rocker will be enough for a long time. However, not everything is so individual. You should devote time to your car and fix what appears to be a minor, but very important, breakdown yourself.
Adjusting the scenes of Lanos and Chance with your own hands
The easiest way to get rid of the play, and thereby extend the service life of the scenes on Lanos, is to adjust it. This process is not difficult, but not always effective, since if the component parts are significantly worn out, the usual adjustment will not help.
To adjust the backstage on Lanos, the following steps are required:
- Place the car on a level surface and move the gearshift lever to the neutral position.
- Loosen the clamp bolt (from the engine compartment) that connects it to the gearshift lever rod. To get to the bolt, you will need a ratchet wrench, several extensions and a 12" socket.
- External view of the clamp on the side of the Lanos gearbox.
- After loosening the clamp, the gear shift lever inside the car will move freely. It must be fixed in a stationary position, for which a steel wire, screw or drill is used. It is important that the elements used have a diameter of up to 5 mm.
- Prepared clamps are needed to lock the gearshift lever in a stationary position. To do this, remove the protective cover from the handle and insert a fixing element into the aligned holes. The photo below shows what it looks like when using a screw.
- You can use steel wire.
- After the lever is fixed, you can begin to directly adjust the scenes. To do this, we move to the engine compartment.
- The gearbox control drive mechanism has an adjustment hole, which is closed with a plastic plug. The appearance of the plastic plug for the Lanos gearbox mechanism is shown in the photo below.
- The plug is located to the right of the stem (shown in the photo).
- In this hole you need to install a 5 mm drill with the shank inward.
- We begin to loosen the slide with one hand, and with the other we need to recess the drill inside the hole. As soon as the drill locks the switching mechanism, all that remains is to tighten the clamp bolt in this position.
- Next, the drill is removed from the adjustment hole, as well as the temporary retainer for the gearshift lever. Don't forget to replace the plastic plug.
- Finally, we check how the speeds switch after the adjustment has been made. The absence of play and the clarity of gear engagement indicates that the procedure was carried out correctly. If after the procedure there is still play in the gearshift lever on the Lanos, then we move on to diagnosing and determining the causes of the malfunction.
The process of adjusting the scenes on Lanos is not difficult and takes no more than 10 minutes. Moreover, now you know how to adjust the linkage on Lanos yourself. A similar procedure is carried out after repairing or replacing the “helicopter”. The video below describes in detail the process of adjusting the scenes on Lanos.
Item number for the helicopter “helicopter” Lanos and Chance - necessary spare parts to replace it
Before you start replacing the scenes on Lanos, you must first purchase a new part. In order for the new one to serve as long as the factory one, you must choose only original spare parts.
The article or factory code of the original backstage for Lanos is 96332660.
The price of the part ranges from 1300 to 2000 rubles in Russia and about 500 hryvnia for Ukraine. The cost varies depending on the region, but when purchasing, it is important to clarify who the manufacturer of this spare part is. Even if you are offered good analogues from Chinese, Polish and other manufacturers, it is still recommended to choose models from GM.
Analogs are cheaper, but they can only be used as a last resort. The first reason for this is a significantly shorter service life. The second is that very often during the replacement process, parts simply do not fit into the standard places (in particular, the rod may be larger in diameter than the standard one). In addition to the rocker itself, when replacing it, you will also need other spare parts. These include:
- The rod of the gear selection mechanism (it is called a fork). It has article number 94580787.
- The stem seal, which must be replaced. Transmission oil often leaks through this seal. It has article number 90129204.
- Shift mechanism cover gasket. Even if the gasket is not damaged, it is still recommended to replace it. Its article number is 96298951.
- The shift rod or shift rod that connects to the ball joint. This part wears out during operation, so it is also recommended to replace it. Catalog number 94580711.
- Pin connecting the fork with the link. It is this element that very often wears out, which causes a disruption in the connection of the two elements. Part number 94535807.
- Retaining ring (plate) that secures the finger. Its article number is 94530002. The part is shown in the photo above.
- To secure the part you will need an original T-bolt. Its article number is 96182212.
In what case is it necessary to replace the scenes on Lanos? You can determine the need to replace a part by the wear of metal parts. If the component parts are not worn out, then you can restore the functionality of the gear shift mechanism on the Lanos using a repair kit. The article number of the repair kit for the Lanos rocker is 94580711. The photo below shows what is included in the package.
If the mileage of the Lanos exceeds 150-200 thousand, and problems arise with the rocker, then you can immediately order a new part with all the components. After preparing the necessary parts, you can proceed to the replacement procedure. It should be noted right away that there is no need to drain the oil from the gearbox when replacing a part. If it has not changed for a long time, then this procedure is carried out simultaneously. A detailed description of changing the oil in the Lanos and Chance 1.5 gearboxes is presented in this material.
Adjusting the backstage of a Chevrolet Lanos
In order to adjust the rocker, you will need keys 12 and 14.
First, we need to remove the plug from the gear shift mechanism cover and then engage neutral gear. Now our task is to loosen the terminal connection of the drive. Next, we need to rotate the shaft so that a drill with a diameter of 0.5 mm can fit into the hole in the cover. Remove the gear shift lever cover.

Instructions for replacing the “helicopter” slide on a Chevrolet and Daewoo Lanos with your own hands
“After all, it’s easier to go to a car service center so that the craftsmen can replace the rocker on a Lanos quickly and efficiently, and the driver won’t have to get his hands dirty.” This statement is correct in relation to foreign cars, but not for Lanos. Although it is considered a foreign car, its simple design allows you to independently carry out any type of repair work. At first glance, replacing the slide on a Lanos is a complex, labor-intensive and time-consuming procedure, but you will be convinced of the opposite after you learn the step-by-step instructions for this procedure.
Having a standard set of tools, you can get to work:
- First, disconnect the terminals from the battery and remove it. This is done in order to make the work easier.
- It is also recommended to dismantle the battery platform.
- Using a key set to “12”, loosen the nut securing the tension clamp, which secures the rocker with the gear shift knob.
- Using a screwdriver, you need to pry off the helicopter lock. It is secured by curved protrusions on the edges of the T-bolt axis. This bolt definitely needs to be replaced, as it gets quite rusty during use.
- The pin connecting the fork with the rocker is removed, having first removed the retaining ring. Wear of the finger indicates that the procedure is being performed in a timely manner.
- We remove the part from the seat through the engine compartment.
- The photo below shows what the extracted “helicopter” looks like from a Lanos car with a mileage of 118 thousand km.
- We proceed to dismantling the housing of the gear selection mechanism. It is secured with four 11mm key bolts. We remove it in order to replace the worn rod.
- We remove the case and see the following picture.
- You can see what is inside the manual transmission Lanos and Chance 1.5.
- When purchasing a rod, be sure to choose an original part, otherwise it may not fit in diameter. The holes on this part wear out, as is clearly shown in the photo below.
- Using a punch and a hammer, we knock out the key securing the rod.
- We pull out the rod, and do not forget to take out the key that falls down.
- We remember the location of the rod in order to install the new part in a similar manner. The cut on the rod should be directed towards the mechanism.
- Before installing a new rod, the seal is replaced. To do this, use a screwdriver to remove the standard element, and put a new one in its place. Now you can put the rod in place and secure it with a key.
- Hammer the key in with a hammer.
- The inside of the mechanism is cleaned, after which you can put it in place. Don’t forget to use a new gasket, after lubricating it with silicone sealant (optional).
- In a similar sequence, the slide is installed in place. We fix it with a new T-bolt. The mechanism rod is connected with a pin, which is fixed with a locking plate. It is important to install the pin correctly so that its cap is on top and the fixing plate is on the bottom. In this case, if the plate is lost, the pin will remain in place and will not disengage with the rod.
Next, the scenes are configured on Lanos.
This process is described in detail in the material above, so there are no difficulties with adjustment. To begin, we connect the rocker rod to the gear shift lever, but do not tighten the clamp. We install the drill in the adjustment hole of the mechanism, and then move into the interior and align the holes of the gearshift knob. Next, all that remains is to tighten the clamp and check the proper operation of the part after replacing it with your own hands on the Lanos and Chance 1.5 car. A detailed description of the process of replacing the rocker or “helicopter” on a Chevrolet and Daewoo Lanos is presented in the video.
In general, the process takes no more than 1-2 hours, provided that the work is being carried out for the first time. Specialists complete the task in half an hour. At the end of the work, as mentioned above, you can change the oil in the box.
After carrying out simple and independent maintenance of the Lanos gearbox, driving will become comfortable, safety will increase, and most importantly, the service life of the manual transmission will increase. Good luck with all the quality repairs.
Daewoo Lanos › Logbook › Replacing the gearbox rocker
By the current mileage (140,000 km), the interesting mechanism involved in shifting gears, namely the so-called “scene”, has already worn out quite a bit. This manifested itself not only in decent play in the gear lever, but also in a nasty rattling sound that was transmitted into the cabin and tormented my nerves)). Finally got around to getting rid of this phenomenon. Since my approach to repair can usually be described as “set it and forget it,” I decided to change not only the rocker itself, but also several related parts. Below are photos and catalog numbers of original GM parts that were needed during the repair process.
The most basic (and expensive) part is the rocker, aka the “helicopter”, aka the gearshift lever, spare part code - 96332660:
To achieve maximum effect, we will need the following parts: 94580787 - gear selection mechanism rod (fork) coming out of the box; 90129204 — shaft seal of the gear selector mechanism (it is necessary to change, because often this oil seal has been snotty for a long time) 96298951 — gearbox cover gasket (the cover is removed to replace the rod and oil seal); 94580711 — link rod (according to the catalog — gear shift rod to ball rod); 94535807 — pin (clamp) for connecting the fork and the rocker; 94530002 — locking ring for fixing the finger; 96182212 — T-bolt for fixing the rocker in its rightful place.
The list of parts is quite extensive, so I’m providing pictures to make it clear what it looks like:
This is what it should look like when assembled:
All of the above were purchased and successfully changed at the service station yesterday. I am more than pleased with the result - the gear shift mechanism works like on a new car, extraneous sounds have disappeared, and the driving pleasure has increased significantly :)
The money came out to about 800 UAH. for all spare parts and labor. Not very cheap, but the result is worth it.
