Ford focus 2 restyling lamps, what to do if the low beam lamp on the second generation Ford Focus stops working

It is not at all necessary to hold out until the lamp burns out completely. The fact is that the quality of the light spot depends not only and not so much on the quality of the lamp itself, but on the level of wear of the tungsten filament operating in an inert gas environment. On the other hand, the quality of the light beam, the level of illumination, the drawing of the border and roadside are highly dependent on the condition of the bulb. And it can be made of either ordinary shock-resistant glass or quartz.

Osram Blister Night Breaker lamp with increased brightness

The tungsten filaments that are used in halogen lamps from different companies are also different and can produce different levels of glow, and the shade that the light beam receives depends both on the bulb and on the composition of the inert gas. Over time, the spiral stretches from vibration, the gas wears out, the parameters of the lamp circuit change and, as a result, the light becomes dimmer, more blurry and unfocused. That is why you should not wait until the lamp completely fails.

  • the lamps in pairs , this will ensure approximately the same resource on the right and left, and in addition, uniform and high-quality lighting without dead zones and gaps;
  • we change the low beam lamps either according to the season, or at the moment when we see that one of them has begun to shine worse ;
  • you can start from the duration of the lamp - on average, about 500 hours , it is not so difficult to calculate;
  • The low beam lamp on a Ford Focus 2, both restyled and pre-restyled, must have an H7 socket and a power of 55-60 W.

Manufacturer's choice

All halogen lamps are based on the type of construction - filament, bulb made of quartz or hard-alloy glass, inert gas.

The consumable must have a high resource, an even luminous flux and an optimal color temperature.

In order for the headlights of your Ford Focus 2 to shine well in the evening or at night, you need to choose a lamp with light as close as possible to daylight.

Osram H7 Original

Osram is a German inexpensive brand, the lamp costs 200-300 rubles. Voltage is 12 V. The light has a rather yellowish tint, which initially upsets the buyer.

However, the lamp illuminates the road well, and in rainy weather yellowness turns out to be better than white light. Lifespan varies depending on usage, but the average is a year. Power 55 W. The luminous flux is uniform. Excellent quality for little money.

Philips H7 Vision Plus

It’s also rumored that the consumable costs much more – 900 rubles. For such a high (compared to others) price, Philips lamps provide even light. Its brightness is not affected by shock, vibration or temperature changes. The light is white with a yellow tint.

Another plus: this consumable has low power consumption, which reduces the load on the Focus battery. Voltage 12 V, power 55 W.

Koito Whitebeam H7

High temperature halogen lamps made in Japan. Price around 1500. Bright white light output. Voltage 12 V.

Although manufacturers assure that these consumables are safe to use, there have been cases when the plastic of the headlight melted. In fog or rainy weather, white light is not visible; yellowish light is much better. The service life ranges from 3 to 5 months.

Behr-Hella H7 Standard

Korean cheap standard lamps. The service life varies depending on use, but on average for Focus it is six months. Voltage 12 V, power 55 W.

The light is very bright, even, with a yellowish tint. The wet road is clearly visible. Easy to replace by yourself. The price is 150 rubles.

Circuit breakers

It may happen that the low beam of the Ford Focus 2 does not light up due to the failure of the fuses.

Fuses protect the on-board network from sudden voltage surges, preventing possible malfunctions of devices. A failed part needs to be replaced as soon as possible, because the voltage will become unstable and will affect the operation of other electronic devices. It is important to install a fuse that is similar in voltage to the factory one, because a discrepancy of this indicator to a lesser extent can lead to dire consequences.

Where to look for fuses?

The parts we need are located in the cabin (FF2 Facelift - after 2007), in the area of the glove box (front passenger).

To reach the correct fuse box, you need to:

All. The block has been removed. Below is its diagram.

Fuses numbered 142 (on the right side) and 143 (on the left side) are responsible for the low beam and have a voltage of 15 Amps. The part changes depending on the side of the absence of light, or both at once.

The procedure for replacing a low beam lamp on a Ford Focus 2

Replacement occurs in several simple steps:

  1. The first step is to change a light source that is not lit, you need to get under the hood.
  2. Remove the bolt holding the headlight to the housing. It is located on the frame.
  3. At the bottom, the headlight of the Ford Focus 2 is attached to two latches. There is no need to remove the headlight completely. Press on one latch and pull the headlight towards you.
  4. Pull the “eye” on the rubber cover that closes access to the headlight and remove it.
  5. Remove the connector of the wires connected to the low beam bulb. To do this, one latch at the bottom snaps off.
  6. Take out the burnt out lamp. Install a new one in its place.
  7. Reinstall the power connector for the low beam.
  8. Close the rubber protection.
  9. Insert the headlight back into its original place until it clicks.
  10. Screw the structure to the frame.

Important! When replacing a lighting fixture, you can only take the part by the base (connector). Do not pick it up by the glass hollow part with your hands!

During the replacement process, it is recommended to check whether there is light from the new part. If nothing has changed. It is likely that the problem is not with the lamp, but perhaps with the power supplied to the light.

If you have doubts about the quality of the purchased consumables, it is worth double-checking the performance of the headlight on a properly working device. To do this, you can take a working lamp from the second low beam headlight. Moreover, the process of assembling and disassembling the structure is quite simple.

Thus, replacing the low beam source is quite simple and can be done by anyone who knows how to hold a screwdriver. The thoughtful design of the headlights allows you to do it yourself in 5 - 10 minutes, unless unforeseen circumstances arise. Obviously, such a replacement will cost much less than in a car service. The principle by which the above-described replacement occurs is quite applicable and, if necessary, change the high beam and dimensions on a Ford Focus 2.

Disassembly and replacement of headlights

Disassembly and repair of a car headlight is required if it is necessary to clean the internal surface, replace the glass or reflector, as well as if you intend to alter the optics, for example, to install lensed elements.

Removing the headlight correctly

How to remove a Ford Focus 2 headlight was stated above. Fastening is carried out with one bolt to the cross member of the engine compartment and two plastic latches. In this it is no different from the headlights of the pre-restyling model.

No assistants are needed to dismantle the optics; all work is easy to do alone.

We disassemble the headlight

Before disassembling a dismantled headlight, you need to find an assistant in advance, since this is very difficult to do without outside help. You can damage the case or glass; this procedure will take a lot of time.

To disassemble the headlight, you will need the following tools:

  • installation hair dryer with temperature control;
  • scalpel or sharp knife;
  • flat screwdrivers with a thin blade.

The glass is attached to the body in a U-shaped groove. The groove is completely filled with sealant. To soften the adhesive element, you need to set the temperature on a hairdryer to 250-350 degrees. An assistant should hold the heater over the joint at a distance of several centimeters. After heating the seam, use a scalpel to trim the sealant, while simultaneously moving the hair dryer to the next area. After trimming, continuing to heat, insert a screwdriver into the gap between the glass and the body and carefully push them apart.

After dismantling, traces of glue are carefully removed from the glass and from the groove cavity.

Gluing is done using high-temperature sealant. The curing time is indicated by the material manufacturer. All this time, the glass and body must be secured against shifting.

Which low beam lamps are best for Ford Focus 2

There are two varieties of Ford Focus 2:

  • pre-restyling;
  • restyled.

There are some design differences between them, but the headlights of both models have halogen bulbs for both low and high beam. On pre-restyling cars, low and high beam were provided by one H4 design, and on restyled cars, separate lamps with an H7 socket were used for low beam, and H1 for high beam. These devices are used only for headlights, PTF, clearance or turn signals provide other types of lamps.

According to the current rules, it is impossible to make changes to the design of the vehicle, therefore it is prohibited to install other types of lamps in the headlights of the second FF.

Important! Despite the ban, many car enthusiasts install xenon or LED lamps, trying to gain in brightness and luminous flux power. This is a direct violation of the rules and may result in a fine or deprivation of your driver's license for six months or even a year.

It is necessary to take into account that Ford headlights contain several devices at once:

  • low and high beam;
  • parking lights;
  • direction indicators.

How to change a headlight bulb on a Ford Focus 2?

The replacement process must begin by searching for quality components. You only need lamps, you don't need to buy any other products. Be sure to get a pair of thin work gloves. It is better to use new gloves to avoid leaving dirt on the bulb bulb. The process may also require a flat blade screwdriver. Be as careful as possible when performing work so as not to damage the rather delicate parts of the car's electrical wiring.

So, the process of replacing light bulbs is as follows:

  1. Check that all lights, low beams and other lighting options are turned off. Wipe the back of the headlight in the engine compartment, removing dust from it.
  2. Unscrew the headlight lock to allow it to move freely. This mount is located on top and is hard to miss.
  3. At the bottom of the headlight, find two plugs and carefully unscrew them with a screwdriver or your hands.
  4. Move the headlight towards you. Be careful that this part does not fall out or break during operation.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connection from the low beam lamp.
  6. Open the four latches of the headlight itself to get to where the bulbs are installed.
  7. Remove the low beam lamp plug, and then remove the lamp itself by carefully twisting it.
  8. Insert the new H7 light bulb that you bought in advance.
  9. Reassemble everything in reverse order and make sure not to miss a single latch.

It is recommended to replace both sides at once so that the lamps shine equally well. If you have already gotten to the point of replacing headlight bulbs, you can also change the headlight bulbs along the way. They are located behind a separate latch and are even easier to change.

Note! For the Ford Focus 2 version after restyling, rubber plugs were installed instead of plastic clamps. Disconnecting them is even easier, it will not cause you any difficulties. On average, you will spend about 15 minutes replacing one lamp.

Results – is it worth doing the work yourself?

In order not to pay several hundred rubles for the service, you can safely do this work yourself. Now you know what low beam lamps are in the Ford Focus 2 and how to replace them. With a simple procedure, you can seriously improve your car travel experience. Pay attention to the differences between the versions before and after restyling, since it was the headlights that became the main factor in the update in the car.

Replacing headlight bulbs will be a simple task; you can do it yourself even if you have never opened the hood of the car. Just follow the simple instructions described above.

The head light for any car turns out to be an important element of operational safety. It is enough to miss an obstacle on the road once to get into a serious accident and put your own life at risk. And the comfort of use directly depends on the quality of road lighting. Therefore, it is necessary to periodically change the lamps in car headlights to maintain sufficient brightness.

Halogen light bulbs tend to dim over time. The more technologically advanced and high-quality lamp is installed in your car, the longer you can drive without knowing grief. But even the most reliable lamp from the world leaders in the production of automotive lighting does not serve normally for more than 5-7 years. If your Ford Focus 2's road lighting has become unsatisfactory, it's time to change the bulbs and improve this aspect.

A little about the features of H7 lamps for Ford Focus 2 headlights

The appearance of H7 headlight lamps dates back to the late 90s of the last century. They belong to the single-filament type of lamps and are installed in four-headlight headlights on cars, where there is a separate system of reflectors responsible for low and high beam .

These lamps are of the flange type, the distinguishing feature of which is a fixed distance from the flange to the filament. Practice shows that this characteristic guarantees the correct light.

Which are the best H7 low beam bulbs? There are several varieties: halogen, xenon and LED. On Ford Focus 2 headlights restyling cars, halogen lights are installed. This is the most common and optimal option, which is used most often and not only on Ford Focus, but also on other brands of cars . Among the advantages of halogen lighting sources are the following factors:

  • affordable price;
  • no need to install additional equipment;
  • high-quality comfortable light.

The design of such lamps looks quite simple - they consist of a bulb, a spiral and halogen gas. If we talk about the disadvantages of low-beam H7 lamps, then experts name only one serious factor - high operating temperature, which significantly affects the service life of the optics. But most Ford Focus owners claim that halogens have the best price-quality ratio.

Changing the dashboard light bulbs

Let's be clear right away - in Ford Focus 2 there are no light bulbs on the instrument panel. SMD LEDs 5630 are responsible for its illumination and indication. They last much longer than incandescent lamps, but they can also fail.

If this does happen, then we dismantle the instrument panel, first removing the decorative visor.

Now remove the arrows by turning them clockwise and pulling them towards you.

Removing arrows from the dashboard

Turn the panel over, release the latches and remove the board.

Removing the board

On the inside of the board we find several dozen LEDs, one of which is indicated by a marker.

We arm ourselves with a soldering iron and replace the burnt ones with new ones, or simply turn to a familiar electronics engineer.

How to replace

Selecting the necessary consumables is a more labor-intensive and complex process than replacement. Let's look at how to replace a light bulb on a pre-restyling and on a Focus 2 restyling. The cars have the same consumables, but the headlight mounting designs are slightly different.

  1. Open the hood and use a screwdriver to separate the headlight bracket. There is no need to unscrew the headlight itself.
  2. Use a screwdriver to unclip the fasteners downwards.
  3. We move the headlight unit parallel to the movement of the car towards us.
  4. We move the latches on the back side of the FF2 headlight.
  5. Remove the connector and move it aside. This must be done carefully so as not to damage the wiring.
  6. Remove the contact block from the light bulb.
  7. We press on the spring clamp and remove the burnt-out consumable.
  8. We insert the cartridge of the new consumable in place of the old one.
  9. Installing a new H7.

When the light bulb comes into contact with the skin, a reaction occurs and the consumable then does not work. If you touch the glass, wipe it with a cloth moistened with alcohol and then dry it.

Ford restyling differs in that instead of a plastic cover with latches, rubber plugs are installed on it. They are much easier to remove; you don't have to fiddle with a screwdriver. Under the rubber there are new type pads. To remove the burnt flask, you just need to press the latch tab.

Fog lights

If the weather is inclement outside, then for safety reasons you can additionally install fog lights. Fog light bulbs also sometimes burn out. Even an inexperienced driver can change a fog light bulb, because this is a simple operation, similar to replacing a low beam consumable.

Interior lighting

The interior lighting in the Ford Focus 2 is provided by 3 light bulbs, placed in one lampshade and turned on by separate buttons. At the same time, in pre-restyling, 2 W5W lamps and one C5W are used, in restyling - 3 W5W lamps.

To replace the light bulbs, you must remove the protective glass of the lampshade. Gently squeeze it on the sides and pull it towards you until the latches come out of engagement with the latches on the lantern.

There are three light bulbs in front of us.

We remove them by simply pulling them out and changing them. We install the protective glass in place.

Important! The photo shows the headlight of a Ford Focus 2 pre-styling. In the restyled version, we do everything the same way, only we also install a W5W lamp in the center.
