Replacing the low beam lamp for Ford Focus 3
Not enough light when switching to low beam? It's all because of the Ford Focus 3 low beam lamp. By replacing the optics, it will be possible to significantly improve the quality of lighting and ease of movement in the dark. There are many options for adjusting the low beam of a Ford Focus 3, but in each case you will have to change the bulb. Intervention in the optics can also be justified by a burnt-out light bulb.
conclusions
If this is the first time you are replacing the light source in the headlight of your Ford Focus 3, be very careful and handle the components with care. Focus has pre-installed plastic fasteners, and careless handling can completely deform them. For this reason, use little effort when dismantling and installing a new light source.
Ford Focus 3
There are often situations when replacing the optics does not help, and the light in the headlight continues to not light up. If you have checked all connections and are confident that the installation is correct, try connecting to your computer. There you will be able to find and reset the corresponding error and thus make the light source on your Ford turn on.
Changing a light source is an easy procedure even for a car enthusiast without experience in repairing faulty components.
Of course, when installing parts yourself, you may have questions or difficulties. To prevent this from happening, carefully read this article and the instructions on the lamp itself. Also, do not apply strong pressure, as this may damage the plastic mechanisms.
And, of course, regardless of the reason for the failure of the lighting source, purchase only high-quality products. It will ensure your safety and will not blind drivers in the oncoming lane.

How to choose a low beam lamp on a Ford Focus 3
The enormous popularity of the Ford Focus 3 is due to the favorable relationship between pricing and product quality, as well as the high prevalence of repair parts. The Ford Focus 3 low beam bulb from the factory already has sufficient power for ordinary tasks, but often there is a need to increase the power, re-equip the electrical system or adjust the light.
The choice should be made based on the technical characteristics of the power source and cartridge. Secondary, but also important, selection conditions are: price, manufacturer, type, etc.
The FF3 low beam lamp is equipped with:
- low beam lamp socket "Ford Focus 3" flange H7;
- voltage – 12 V;
- power – 55 W.
The manufacturer immediately installs branded lamps from Osram into the car; production is located in Germany. The company is a subsidiary corporation of the famous Siemens brand, which is famous for its reliable electronics. If the reason for replacing the low beam lamp in Focus 3 is that the lighting fixture has burned out, it is better to simply buy an analogue.
The modern market can offer a large selection of light sources for car head optics
On the Ford Focus 3, the low beam lamp is installed in 2 types:
- Bi-xenon with optical lens.
- Halogen with flux diffuser.
Taking into account the described characteristics, you need to select suitable lamps in case of replacing the standard Focus 3 low beam model. The unified base allows you to install light bulbs from any brand, but when choosing, you should give preference to options with the same power ratings.
Halogen headlights should not have increased light output, since they use an incandescent filament and can become very hot, which destroys the coating and structure of the reflector.
Replacement of the Ford Focus 3 low beam lamp by owners is carried out in favor of some proven brands and specific models:
- Philips. Buy a standard model with an H7 base; it uses a chrome-plated base, and the glass mass includes the addition of quartz. The listed technologies improve the illumination of the route by 30% compared to the standard version, while the power and voltage of the device do not change. Other popular models of the brand are the Diamond Vision series, which is similar to daylight, as well as Xtreme Vision - the flow rate is the highest among all models, it is 2 times higher than Osram;
- Bosch. The high light output of 90-Plus provides a 90% increase in productivity. The light is dominated by white color. Blue Vision is a model with a blue tint of light, the bulb uses quartz glass to enhance the durability of the surface;
- IPF. When choosing the H11 XY64-2400K the light becomes more yellow, it illuminates the track much better when the fog descends;
- Koito. The brand produces xenon versions of the Whitebeam III H7. When replacing the lamp with a Ford Focus 3, the performance increases from 55 to 100 W.
You can install a low beam source of any other brand instead of a standard light bulb
How to replace the low beam light bulb on a Ford Focus 3 car
Lighting is provided by the main optics, consisting of a headlight unit, where 4 light bulbs are mounted at once: side lights, turning lights, high and low lights. The changing procedure itself should not cause difficulties, there is also no great effort, but you will still have to remove the headlight.
The Ford Focus 3 low beam lamp retainer is quite standard; to make replacements, you need to follow this algorithm:
- Open the front hood and install it on the holders.
- The terminal is disconnected from the battery.
- The headlight is fixed with 2 screws, which can be unscrewed using an asterisk, hex or minus screwdriver.
- The body of the unit must be moved towards you in a smooth and careful movement, gradually removing the optics from below.
- The power terminal is disconnected from the board. Now it is recommended to take the headlight to a suitable room and change any indicator light.
- On the back of the block you need to disconnect the cover; it is made of rubber and is located immediately behind the low beam mount.
- The hatch that appears allows you to remove the lamp along with the socket from the groove inside the reflector. To remove, you need to press on the clamps and twist the cartridge a little, then pull to remove it from the guides.
- The lamp is pulled out of the socket.
- Now the new light bulb is being installed and the unit is being assembled. To simplify the procedure, you can install 1 lamp in the groove on the reflector and install it into the socket until you hear an audible click.
Repair of adaptive headlights of Focus 3 Restyle
Everyone has long known about the problem with the adaptive headlights of the Focus 3 2015+. Almost immediately after purchase, with a mileage of 3000-4000 km on my car, the right headlight stopped returning to its original position after a right turn. She went into safe mode, turning to the right and going down. Disputes began with the dealer, which did not bode well. Computer diagnostics did not reveal any errors. I had to remove several kinks, which were sent to the Ford dealership and they approved the warranty replacement of the headlight, after which it was replaced.
Now, with about 50 thousand kilometers left, the same symptoms began to appear, and since the warranty had long expired, I decided to repair the headlight myself. I will not explain how the headlight is removed. Everything is elementary there. Next, we remove the rubber plug located behind the xenon lamp and see that nothing is available to us (Photo 1).

For further work we will need to remove the lamp. There is a black plastic ring around the lamp that needs to be turned clockwise. It turns very hard (Photos 2 and 3). The third photo shows the lamp from the back side to make it easier to understand what to twist.

Next, disconnect the connector with three wires, being careful not to pull too much on the wires. It is in the area of this connector that they fall off. If you have several wires left in your hands, then you can only figure out which wires are which ones with the help of a tester. They are all the same color (Photos 4 and 5).

What is needed for the work
To quickly and efficiently carry out work regarding replacing a light bulb, you must first prepare the tools and spare parts that will be used later:
- lamps. Select and buy 2 light bulbs according to the described recommendations;
- 6mm hex or sprocket. You will need a tool to remove the headlight. FF3 machines can use one of the types of fastening. Before unscrewing, you should check that the tool fits tightly into the groove and will not lead to destruction of the fasteners;
- minus screwdriver. Suitable with a long tip and a fairly thin nozzle. It is useful for unfastening the grooves of the clamps that are located below. A screwdriver will help disconnect the wire block;
- gloves. It is imperative to use protective gloves, as the sharp edges of the parts severely scratch your hands.

Recommendations for replacing lamps on a Ford Focus 3 car
In the process of replacing any lamp, even the size, you need to follow simple rules and instructions:
Replacing the low beam bulb on Focus 3 will not be difficult for you
- Bulb replacement must be carried out simultaneously on both headlights, regardless of how many bulbs have burned out; This will level out the difference in illumination on different sides of the car. Management becomes better and safer;
- When working with halogen lamps, do not touch the housing with unprotected hands. Otherwise, a fatty discharge will appear and be imprinted on the glass. Due to the special properties of fat, the light bulb will burn out immediately after switching on;
- During the dismantling process, maximum care should be taken; you can photograph each stage. It is necessary to pay attention to the axis of fixation of the light bulb in the reflector, the direction of location of the socket latches, the presence of a gap between the lamp and the body, etc.;
- Dismantling, just like installation, should not be carried out using great force. Everything in the car is arranged in such a way that the fasteners are quite fragile (plastic), they are easy to deform, disrupt the integrity of the threads or destroy them;
- Before installing the headlight assembly after the replacement process, you must first insert the bottom into special grooves that are located on the side of the car's fender. With a slight movement, the block will easily fit into the grooves from the outside. Only after inserting into the clamps do you need to tighten the screws;
- After completing the work of changing the lamps, you can connect the battery and check if everything worked out. If the connections are made correctly, but the light still does not come in, the reason may lie in computer failures. You'll have to reset the error.
Instructions for removing headlights for Ford Focus-2
First you should prepare a new headlight (if for some reason you want to completely replace the old one), a 25mm wrench and a slotted screwdriver.
The entire procedure can be divided into several stages:
- preparatory. Here you should not only lay out the necessary tools, but also turn off the power. To do this, remove the “-” terminal from the battery;
- dismantle the headlight. It is necessary to unscrew all the fasteners and slightly pull the headlight out of the standard socket. The headlight unit will now be connected to the car only by the power supply cable, which is attached to a special plastic latch-terminal directly to the headlight power connector. Disconnect the circuit terminal block by pressing the plastic locking latch. Carefully remove the disconnected headlight;
- final stage. After carrying out all the necessary manipulations with the headlight (or when completely replacing it), you should assemble the electrical circuit and install the headlight back into the original socket. To do this, we carry out the procedure in reverse order - install the terminal block on the headlight, put the product in its place, tighten all the necessary fasteners and check the reliability of fastening, return the negative battery terminal to its place. Turn on the headlight and enjoy the new bright lighting optics.
Below are photos that clearly show how to remove the headlight. The image may differ slightly from reality, but the entire order of work is presented correctly, so the difference is not fundamental.
Replacing headlight bulbs
Much more often it is necessary to change the lamps installed in headlight devices. Powerful halogen lighting devices have a short service life compared to other elements. This happens because the filaments in them operate under conditions of high temperature and vibration.
Some car owners change lamps because they are not happy with the light of the old ones. Usually you are not satisfied with the shade, brightness, or irregular shape of the light spot.
What you will need
- flat blade screwdriver;
- TORX-30 key;
- clean cotton gloves.
Disassembly and replacement of headlights
Disassembly and repair of a car headlight is required if it is necessary to clean the internal surface, replace the glass or reflector, as well as if you intend to alter the optics, for example, to install lensed elements.
Removing the headlight correctly
How to remove a Ford Focus 2 headlight was stated above. Fastening is carried out with one bolt to the cross member of the engine compartment and two plastic latches. In this it is no different from the headlights of the pre-restyling model.
No assistants are needed to dismantle the optics; all work is easy to do alone.
We disassemble the headlight
Before disassembling a dismantled headlight, you need to find an assistant in advance, since this is very difficult to do without outside help. You can damage the case or glass; this procedure will take a lot of time.
To disassemble the headlight, you will need the following tools:
- installation hair dryer with temperature control;
- scalpel or sharp knife;
- flat screwdrivers with a thin blade.
The glass is attached to the body in a U-shaped groove. The groove is completely filled with sealant. To soften the adhesive element, you need to set the temperature on a hairdryer to 250-350 degrees. An assistant should hold the heater over the joint at a distance of several centimeters. After heating the seam, use a scalpel to trim the sealant, while simultaneously moving the hair dryer to the next area. After trimming, continuing to heat, insert a screwdriver into the gap between the glass and the body and carefully push them apart.
After dismantling, traces of glue are carefully removed from the glass and from the groove cavity.
Gluing is done using high-temperature sealant. The curing time is indicated by the material manufacturer. All this time, the glass and body must be secured against shifting.
Fog lights
Ford Focus 2 restyling, depending on the configuration, goes on sale both with a set of fog lights and without them. Replacement of faulty PTFs or installation is carried out independently with minimal skills, since all changes are provided for by the design of the car.
The fog lamp is installed in the lower part of the bumper, where a mount is provided for it. The installation site is covered with a decorative cover. The connection block is tied to the nearest electrical wiring harness and closed with a protective cap.
A new PTF is installed instead of a decorative cover and secured to the designated places. Untie the block from the harness and connect it to the lamp.
Additionally, a new lighting control unit is installed in the vehicle interior. It is installed instead of the standard one. The block is secured with latches that can be released using a thin screwdriver.
Possible problems and ways to solve them
Among the malfunctions in the lighting of Ford Focus 2 cars, the most common problem is that the low beam does not light up. This happens because it lights up more often and not only at night. The requirement to drive during the day with low beams or daytime running lights on leads to the fact that the lamps work in an overloaded mode and quickly burn out. The malfunction is eliminated by replacing the burnt out elements.
Do not replace only a burnt-out device. The second lamp works the same amount of time, therefore, it will become unusable in the near future. In addition, during operation the spectral composition of the radiation changes, so even light sources of the same brand will shine differently.
It often happens that after replacing the headlight still does not work. The cause must be looked for in the fuse block. When the filament filament burns out, current surges may occur that can blow the fuse. If both lamps do not light, the reason lies in the common fuse, and if only one, then the fuse in the circuit of the faulty device must be checked.
When installing new elements, it is prohibited to use homemade inserts or devices of a higher rating. This may cause electrical wiring to melt and catch fire. If the installed fuse burns out again, you need to look for the cause, and not reduce the sensitivity of the current protection.
