Replacing the Kia RIO air and cabin filter

According to the manual, the frequency of changing the Kia Rio oil and oil filter is 15,000 km or 12 months - whichever comes first.
According to the manufacturer's recommendations, the air and cabin filters in the Kia Rio should be changed after 15–20 thousand kilometers. But not only mileage is the basis for replacing the filter material. The conditions in which the machine is operated are of great importance. If you travel on hard surfaces far from the metropolis in rural areas, then the filter material can be changed less frequently. In large cities, where the air is polluted by exhaust gases, dust, and smog, replacements have to be done more often.

To replace the air filter we recommend: MANN C25 016

To replace the cabin filter we recommend: MANN CU 21 008

Replacement frequency

Automakers determine during the testing stages of their vehicles the specific frequency at which various consumables, including engine oil, should be changed. But the problem is that the operating manual usually specifies intervals that imply almost ideal conditions. This includes high quality fuel, smooth roads, medium and long distance travel. Therefore, not all Kia Sid car owners agree that the oil in their engines should be changed after 15 - 20 thousand kilometers.

This gap does not correspond to the actual conditions in which Korean cars are operated. The reduction in service interval is affected by:

  • the quality of fuel offered at domestic gas stations;
  • frequent driving in traffic jams from traffic light to traffic light;
  • short trips;
  • leaving the car in a garage or parking lot for a long time;
  • bad expensive;
  • driving on unpaved areas;
  • operation of a vehicle with a trailer or with the interior constantly filled with passengers, etc.

Therefore, in reality, the engine oil should be changed every 8 - 12 thousand kilometers, but at least once a year. If you change seasonal oils, then in 12 months you will have to drain the old lubricant twice and fill in new motor fluid. The more negative factors that affect a car during its operation, the more often the lubricant will have to be changed. If the engine is worn out and has an impressive mileage, then it is recommended to carry out the procedure for changing the lubricant every 6 - 8 thousand kilometers. For new cars under moderately difficult conditions, 10–12 thousand kilometers is enough. But provided that you use high-quality motor oils.

Oil for Kia Rio gasoline engines

First, let's determine the viscosity of the oil. All Kia Rio gasoline engines, regardless of volume, must use motor oil with a viscosity of 5W20 or 5W30. For engines with VVT-i clutch, the manufacturer recommends using oil with a viscosity of 5W20. This is not a strict requirement, but only a recommendation.

So, we sorted out the viscosity. Now comes the hard part. In all three generations of Kia Rio, the manufacturer recommends using different oils according to quality class. For the first generation of Kia Rio, oil with an API quality class of at least SL and ILSAC quality class of at least GF-3 is recommended. In the second generation, it is better to pour oil of a higher quality level, i.e.

Now, regarding volume. The average oil volume in a Kia Rio engine is 3.5 liters. Of course, the volume is indicated taking into account the oil filter.

Approval and classes of motor oils

When selecting a motor lubricant, you need to know which class is suitable for your engine. Because it is the class and tolerance, and not the manufacturer, that is decisive here. It is indicated in the technical documentation for your car.

As I wrote above, three generations of Kia Rio were sold in our country. The more modern the car, the more stringent the requirements for oil quality:

  1. For the 1st generation, it is recommended to use the class according to APISL and ILSACGF-3. Almost all oils currently sold meet these standards, the main thing is that it is no worse, that is, of a higher class.
  2. For 2nd generation cars it is better to use APISM and ILSACGF‑4. As in the first case, it can be better (APISN and ILSACGF‑5).
  3. The latest generation, the most numerous, requires the use of even higher quality oil in the engine, more precisely APISN and ILSACGF‑5.

And I would also not add various additives. Improvements in engine performance are unlikely to be noticeable, and if they are, they will be short-lived.

Changing the gearbox oil in Kia RIO

The oil is changed for Kia RIo (1.4 1.6) manual transmission on average every 45,000-60,000 km, 1.9 liters are required.

The oil is changed for Kia RIo (1.4) automatic transmission on average every 45,000-60,000 km, 6.8 liters are required.

Kia RIo (1.6) automatic transmission oil is changed on average every 45,000-60,000 km, 7.4 liters are required.

According to the regulations in the Kia RIo, transmission oil control is carried out at 20 thousand km, and an oil change at 40 - 60 thousand km.

We recommend using oil in a Kia Rio manual transmission: API 75W85 or 75W90 (link to catalog or filters or oils) In automatic transmission: oil standard SP-III (1.4) or SP-VI (1.6) (link to catalog or filters or oils)

What kind of oil to pour into the Kia Rio engine

If you need my recommendations directly from the oil itself, or more precisely from its manufacturer, then I would recommend filling Kia Rio gasoline engines with either the original Mobis Hyundai Turbo Syn 5W30 SM/GF-4 oil or Liqui Moly Special Tec AA 5W30 SN/GF-5 oil. Of course, there are many other options suitable for these engines, but these oils have been tested by me personally and have shown themselves to be the best. More details about Kia Rio engine oil are described in the article: “Oil for Kia Picanto.” Anyone interested is welcome.

Now about oils for Kia Rio diesel engines. I won’t list many options here. The Mobis line includes a good HYUNDAI Premium LS Diesel 5W30 oil. This oil meets the requirements of the Hyundai & Kia concern for its engines, namely the CH-4 standard. Well, the oil itself is available in convenient volumes - 1l, 4l and 6l.

I hope I gave a sufficiently detailed answer to the question “What kind of oil to pour into the Kia Rio engine.”

Oil fill volume

To the question of how much to fill, you, dear reader, will get the answer by looking at the table.

When pouring oil, don’t expect it to pour out; exactly as much as indicated in the table will pour out. It is not possible to completely drain it and approximately 5 to 10% will remain in the engine.

By following these simple rules, the Kia Rio will work for a long time and make you happy. You don’t need to listen to any advice, you just need to correctly calculate the mileage between changes and fill in the oil of the class recommended by the manufacturer, and also don’t forget to check the oil level.

I hope that the information received will be useful to you when operating your car. There is very interesting material about what kind of oil I filled in when I owned Ford Focus and Volkswagen Polo cars. See you on the blog pages.

How much oil is in the Kia Rio engine

To select the correct engine oil, it is customary to be guided by the parameters specified in the operating instructions for the machine. You can do this yourself, just like changing your engine oil yourself. This procedure does not require professional skills and is carried out without the use of special equipment. But the replacement procedure is always preceded by the selection of consumables. In this article, we’ll look at how to use the popular Kia Rio car as an example to choose engine oil based on tolerance parameters, viscosity and the best brands. We will also consider how much motor oil you need to have and pay attention to the frequency of replacement.

How often to change the oil

This factor depends on the operating conditions. If the car is used in favorable climatic zones - for example, where there are no harsh winters, low temperatures and bad roads, then in this case you can trust the official regulations, which are usually always too high. Thus, the Kia manufacturer recommends replacement after 50 thousand kilometers. In harsh Russian conditions, by this time the oil may become unusable, and this should not be allowed under any circumstances. The fact is that negative external factors, such as frost, dirt, slush and poor road conditions - all this shortens the useful properties of motor oil, and it is no longer able to cool the components of the internal combustion engine, and thereby prevent them from overheating. It is possible that if you delay replacement, you may encounter unforeseen consequences. For example, it may come down to a major engine overhaul. Therefore, it is always necessary to change the oil on time.

How to understand when it's time to change the oil

It is very easy to determine the poor condition of a consumable. To do this, you will need to open the hood and remove the dipstick from the oil filler hole. We look at the oil print - if the liquid is dark in color and emits a specific odor, then the oil needs to be changed urgently. Especially if it contains metal shavings. If the liquid is clear in color and an insufficient oil level was detected during the dipstick check, then in this case it is enough to add a little more liquid.

Signs indicating poor oil condition Let us highlight several signs that may be caused by poor oil condition:

  • The engine develops incomplete power and cannot reach maximum speed
  • Fuel consumption increases periodically
  • Transmission gears are switched with a delay, delays of 1-2 seconds are possible
  • Noise and vibrations emanating from the transmission and internal combustion engine

Which oil to choose for Kia Rio

When choosing a suitable lubricant, it is important to consider the viscosity parameters, flow rate, tolerance standards and the quality of the lubricant. Also, do not forget that the oil filter must be changed along with the oil. At least this applies to Kia Rio model years 2012, 2013 and 2014. As for parameters and tolerances, they are indicated in the Kia Rio user manual.

Let's name the most popular motor oil manufacturers today:

  1. Shell Helix Ultra is a leader in the lubricants market. This product has successfully passed all tests and has shown high levels of fluidity, resistance to corrosion, low temperatures, and also has good non-stick properties, effectively cools parts and prevents overheating. Contains the optimal amount of additives.
  2. Total Quartz – has a wide spectrum of action and a long service life. This is the most economical oil that will last a long time, regardless of operating conditions. This product attracts with its low price and high quality.
  3. Divinol is an oil with minimal consumption, excellent alkaline number and acidity. Effectively protects the engine from premature wear. The Divinol brand itself is not very popular on the Russian market. But statistics show that this lubricant is increasingly being poured into the Kia Rio engine.
  4. ZIC XQ LS is an oil at an affordable price and of decent quality. It has an optimal set of additives and well protects engine components from premature wear.

What do drivers prefer - TOP 18

In addition to suitable parameters, when selecting oil for the Kia Rio 3, it is recommended to choose only among trusted manufacturers.

  1. Total is a well-known French company for the production of synthetic and semi-synthetic oils, among which there are energy-saving lubricants suitable for engines of any type. If you require oil with a common viscosity of 5W-30, then a suitable option can be found in the Classic and Quartz Ineo lines
  2. Liqui Moly is another leader in the lubricants market, with a wide range of oils, including specialized fluids for certain brands of cars. For example, since the Kia Rio is a representative of the Asian automotive industry, motor oil from the Liqui Moly Special Tec line with a viscosity of 5w-20 is suitable for it. It is worth noting that this line is produced in Germany. Its quality is undeniable, but the price is quite high
  3. Mobil is a leading manufacturer of oils for torque and high-power engines, also suitable for modern Kia engines. Thanks to complex additives, this oil is able to ensure uninterrupted operation of the internal combustion engine at maximum speed for a long time. Moreover, the Mobil family of oils help reduce fuel consumption, and the Mobil Super 3000 Formula F line has special properties that increase engine life
  4. Motul is one of the leaders in the speed of development of new generation lubricants. In the case of the Kia Rio 3, we can recommend the Motul 8100 Eco-Lite and Motul 6100 series, which contain oils with a viscosity of 5w-20. This line was created to save gasoline and improve engine performance in the most used speed range
  5. Mobis is a Korean manufacturer of lubricants that has proven itself thanks to oils with good cleaning abilities. The popularity of Mobis can be explained by the fact that the products of this company use a large amount of molybdenum, which reduces friction between parts and ensures efficient starting of the internal combustion engine in frosty weather. Mobis oils are produced at four major oil refineries, each of which has its own product line. You can choose any of them without losing quality.
  6. Ravenol is a company that has become famous primarily for its synthetic products, which are characterized by maximum stability of properties. Ravenol oils help extend drain intervals and play an important role in protecting the engine from all types of dirt deposits - from small to large metal particles, dust, soot and other wear products. At the same time, protection against dry friction is provided through the use of tungsten additives. If we talk about Ravenol oil, Kia Rio 3 owners often prefer Ravenol SFE SAE 5w-20
  7. Castrol is a popular brand in the lubricants market, suitable for foreign cars. In the case of the Kia Rio 3, the Castrol Mangatec Professional E series has proven itself well, a feature of which is its natural color without any dyes. An important property of this oil is increased protection of the internal combustion engine during warm-up or during startup.
  8. ZIC is one of the manufacturers of affordable oils of acceptable quality. ZIC products do not have a 5w-20 viscosity, but 0W-20 will work instead for the Kia Rio 3. ZIC oil with this SAE rating is not only suitable for harsh climates, but also allows you to save fuel when starting the engine when cold. Of the more familiar options, drivers prefer ZIC 5w-30
  9. Shell Helix Ultra Pro AF is one of the best oils for Kia Rio 3. This fluid has a synthetic base and a special set of useful properties that prevent the formation of deposits and the occurrence of extraneous noise for a long time - until the next oil change
  10. Wolf OfficialTech 5W-20 MS-FE is a high-performance oil that improves engine acceleration and dynamic performance. In addition, the OfficialTech line reduces engine noise and vibration
  11. Idemitsu Zepro 0W-20 or 5W-30 (instead of 5W-20) is a synthetic lubricant for gasoline engines. One of the main properties of this product is fuel economy in all modes of internal combustion engine operation.
  12. Eneos Gran-Touring 5W-40 is an all-season synthetic oil with API-SM and ACEA A3 parameters. This liquid can be recommended for the Kia Rio of the first 3 years of production. This type of Eneos is resistant to oxidation and evaporation, and also reduces fuel consumption
  13. Kixx G1 is a synthetic product with a set of premium additives that reduce the level of piston gases and also prevent oil burn and excessive fuel consumption
  14. Lukoil Genesis Special FE is one of the best oils from Lukoil, recommended for the Kia Rio 3. Its main advantages are its low price, adaptation to Russian conditions and easier engine starting in frosty weather. The liquid is ideal for urban use, which is characterized by constant gas changes in traffic light jams
  15. Petro-Canada Supereme Synthetic is the best oil among Korean brand products. Its features include a high degree of protection against counterfeiting, improved circulation, high cleaning properties and fuel efficiency. The Supreme Synthetic series is aimed at gasoline engines
  16. NGN 5W-20 is a synthetic oil for all types of engines, with stable anti-wear additives, thanks to which frequent oil changes are not required. In general, this oil is recommended for Japanese models, but it is also suitable for Kia Rio 3
  17. Neste City Pro F 0W-20 is one of the most economical oils with a record low ash content, which ensures the ability to start the engine at temperatures below minus 30 degrees. This oil contains anti-wear additives based on zinc and phosphorus, as well as detergents based on calcium.
  18. Valvoline SynPower FE is a premium synthetic product with standard detergent and protective properties that reduce CO2 emissions and maintain engine performance under increased loads.

Volume

The volume of fluid poured into the Kia Rio engine is 3.3 liters, but this volume may vary less if the oil is not completely changed. In this case, it will not be possible to remove all the old oil, so it will not be possible to introduce the full volume of fresh fluid. This can only be done at a dealership, where there are all the conditions for a complete oil change. During this procedure, old oil is removed using a special flushing agent, which cleans the internal combustion engine components from dust, dirt and metal shavings.

Alternatively, you can try to perform a partial replacement several times with a break of 300-400 kilometers. By the third or fourth time, the internal combustion engine parts will be cleaned, and then it will be possible to introduce new oil in full.

Consequences of untimely replacement

If you do not follow the oil change schedule, accelerated wear of engine parts occurs. Modern oils have additives that improve their properties. When working at high temperatures, these additives gradually burn out and the lubricant’s performance deteriorates. As a result, oil starvation may occur, which can cause the crankshaft liners to turn.

Turbocharger compressor parts suffer greatly from exhausted oil. Contaminated lubricant clogs the oil supply channels, which can cause the shaft of this unit or other mechanisms to jam. Old oil fluid does not remove temperature well from overheated engine parts, which also has a bad effect on its condition.

Types of oils

  • Synthetic is the most fluid and liquid oil. It is the best choice for both Kia Rio and any other modern car. Excellent resistance to low temperatures, never freezes, and therefore suitable for harsh operating conditions
  • Mineral oil is the cheapest oil, which has a wide range of disadvantages rather than advantages. It is suitable for cars with high mileage that are at risk of oil leaks. With mineral oil, leaks are excluded, given the fact that it is the thickest oil. However, it is prone to hardening and is therefore not recommended for use in low temperatures.
  • Semi-synthetic is one of the best motor oils and is an alternative to mineral oil. It contains two types of oils. It has good non-stick properties, but at the same time, semi-synthetics have a shorter shelf life compared to pure synthetics.

We can conclude that for the Kia Rio you need to select synthetic or semi-synthetic oil.

What is normal oil consumption

When running a new engine during the first 5000 km, the engine oil consumption should be 1 l/1000 km. This rule is also relevant after replacing the piston rings. The amount of fluid consumed also depends on the type of engine. Below are oil consumption guidelines that you can rely on when driving from 5 to 150 thousand kilometers.

  • 0.25 l/1000 km – in normal driving mode
  • 0.4/1000 km – when driving at high speed
  • 0.5 l/1000 km – in mountain conditions
  • 0.35-0.55 l/1000 km – exclusively for cars with mileage of more than 150 thousand km

What is the oil consumption per 100 liters of fuel?

For new gasoline engines - 0.25 l For used cars - 100 ml

What is the maximum permissible oil consumption per 100 liters of fuel?

Oil consumption of 0.5 liters is still considered acceptable, but undesirable. In this case, there is a high probability of the motor jamming while driving. Therefore, when you reach 0.5 liters, it is better to immediately contact a service station

Reasons for increased oil consumption

  • oil is filled above the permissible level
  • the filled oil is of poor quality or does not meet factory requirements
  • the vehicle is often subject to high loads (driving in mountainous areas, with a heavy semi-trailer, off-road or at high speeds)
  • hot weather conditions
  • physical factors (poor engine tightness, defective oil filter, defective seals)

    Good day to all. We recently did an article about oils in the Kia Rio automatic transmission and changing the oil in the Kia Rio automatic transmission. And in this article we will talk about engine oil for the Kia Rio.

    1. I changed the oil today, drove 10 tons of km on it, shell ultra extra, it came out very black, the dipstick has the same yellow coating, only less, for some reason only 2.6 liters came in when filling... although the glass seems fine, maybe there are deposits in the sump
    2. mish, most likely there is not a lot of oil left in the pan. For example, on the top ten there is always 0.5 liters left, and they can only be drained by removing the pan, but no one does this.

  • Message from mish Today I changed the oil, drove 10 tons of km on it, ultra extra shell, it came out very black, the dipstick has the same yellow coating, only less, for some reason only 2.6 liters came in when filling... although the glass seems to be fine, maybe there deposits in the pan How long did it take to drain What kind of oil was filled
  • shell ultra extra 5-30, drained until it stopped dripping
  • Message from mish shell ultra extra 5-30, drained until it stopped dripping, it’s strange, 2.6 liters is really not enough. I filled in 3 liters and the oil dipstick was between max and min.
  • Message from Maslenkin This is strange, 2.6l is really small. I filled in 3 liters and the oil dipstick was between max and min. On the contrary, three liters fit at the maximum mark) How much is interesting between the min and max liter marks
  • Message from Comfort On the contrary, three liters fit at the maximum mark) How much is interesting between the min and max marks of liters between min and max -1 liter.
  • The canister (5 liters) was enough for two times, the level is average between marks L, F, respectively 2.5 liters. If you pour it up to the maximum, 3-3.1 liters should come in.
  • I always pour up to the risks of MAX IMHO it was already calculated to the minimum constructively (before that, all cars had 3.5-3.8 liters - internal combustion engines were from 1.5 to 2 liters) and here it’s 0.5 liters less than conventional engines , and if you pour it at a minimum, then I think it’s generally killing the oil (our engine already kills it with a bang)
  • So So, in all my maintenance orders from the dealer, the oil volume is 3.3 liters, so they keep a liter of oil for themselves, or they drain it in some cunning way
  1. Posted by glot Wow! This is 1/6 of the total oil in your engine that is mixed with each oil change. Oh well. ABOUT! When installed on a flat surface, definitely 200-250 g is collected with a syringe with a tube. Hmmm...what kind of filter do you have there. There is more than 100 g (even less) and it’s not needed, and it doesn’t fit (although you can add more after absorption).
    So maybe you can inform about 0.5-0.6 liters where it settles there.

    The fact is that I’m not convincing you of this - it’s a FACT, carry out the replacement yourself and make sure of everything, but it usually ends up in the pockets of unscrupulous service station workers. Kostya Kovalenko, Show me where it says about 2.4 liters.

    Oh, I understand. Apparently the pan is screwed on the other side.

    Message from Kostya Kovalenko An excerpt from the book was given above. It appears, to put it mildly, that you have been misled. Or rather, they lied. It's not surprising to me. Message from Kostya Kovalenko, carry out the replacement yourself and make sure of everything. For almost 25 years I have been changing oils myself, with rare exceptions. This process is simple and accessible to anyone. Therefore, it is surprising - where do you put 0.5-0.6 liters, because it is mixed with the new one in a proportion of at least 1/6, and this is already serious. A message from Kostya Kovalenko usually ends up in the pockets of unscrupulous service station workers. 2. For most engines with a volume of 1.3-1.6, 4 liters are purchased. Almost everything is included, the rest is for refilling.
  3. Message from glot You were given an excerpt from the book above. It appears, to put it mildly, that you have been misled. Or rather, they lied. It's not surprising to me. For almost 25 years I have been changing my own oils, with rare exceptions. This process is simple and accessible to anyone. Therefore, it is surprising - where do you put 0.5-0.6 liters, because it is mixed with the new one in a proportion of at least 1/6, and this is already serious.
    If there is evidence, contact the authorities, court, etc. If you slander unfoundedly or don’t change anything even for yourself, if you notice this, these are your problems and try to avoid them.

    I’ll be changing the oil soon, I’ll film the whole process, regarding the lies, it’s apparently you who lie all the time and measure everyone by yourself. What's the point of lying to me? I wrote it as it is - this is a forum!

  4. At the last maintenance, oil was poured from my 4 liter canister. The remainder is a little less than a liter, within 0.7-0.8 liters. So our engine includes as much as is written in the Murzilka.
  5. Chesare, No, don’t believe your eyes - Kostya Kovalenko said how he cut it off and this is his “fact”. In short, he alone is “Dartagnan”, and the rest are enemies. In general, if not a disaster, then a victory…. speak according to what is not written, so that everyone’s stupidity is visible. (P.A. Romanov) -

    Message from Yuri_Nick Kostya Kovalenko, Show me where it says about 2.4 liters.

    Oh, I understand. Apparently the pan is screwed on the other side.

    go and drain the oil from the box, there are just two liters there

  6. The 1.4 never fit more than 3 liters
  7. Message from GorBest The 1.4 never fit more than 3 liters. In order to fit 3.2 liters (there is no difference between 1.4 and 1.6), you need to remove the remainder with a syringe and a tube from the engine oil pan through the drain hole. Mlyn, who knows when this was written about - when will we READ the topics! …. speak according to what is not written, so that everyone’s stupidity is visible. (P.A. Romanov) -

    The filling volume (draining and refilling) for a model with an engine capacity of 1.6 liters is 3.6 liters. Do not add excessive amounts of oil, as this may cause engine problems.

Coolant for Kia Rio

The manufacturer recommends using long-life antifreeze G-11 (green). For temperate climates, the concentration should be calculated at -30°C, and for cold climates -40°. Service life 120,000 km or 2-3 years of operation. It must be borne in mind that G-11 cannot be mixed with G-12 in the Kia Rio cooling system.

In cars with 1.4 engines, the volume of the cooling system is 5.3 liters. With a 1.6 engine, the system volume is 6 liters.

Kia Soul is a Korean-made mini-crossover, which is one of the most unusual cars in the B-class SUV. Similar models include the Citroen C3 Picasso, as well as the Nissan Note, Mitsubishi ASX and Suzuki SX4. Please note that the Kia Soul is not a full-fledged crossover, as it is equipped only with front-wheel drive. Thus, it is not correct to compare the Kia Soul, for example, with the all-wheel drive version of the Mitsubishi ASX. In the Kia model range, the car is located between the Kia Ceed hatchback and the full-fledged Kia Sportage crossover.

Sales of the first generation Soul took place in 2008. The model received a limited engine range of two engines - one 1.6 diesel engine (128 hp) and one gasoline internal combustion engine (1.6, 124 hp). In 2011, the power of the gasoline engine increased to 129 horsepower. Other changes were even less significant. The updated car has more trim levels.

The second generation model debuted in 2013. The crossover of the same name was designed using a new platform and body, but the design concept was preserved - the car received the same “cubic” design as its predecessor. The diesel unit disappeared from the engine range, and a more powerful 132-horsepower engine appeared. In 2021, the car was restyled, during which the engine range was expanded to include 2.0 (150 hp) and 1.6 liter (204 hp) engines. The car received a larger number of configurations.

Good day to all. We recently did an article about and. And in this article we will talk about engine oil for the Kia Rio.

.

So, let's start with the fact that there are three generations of Kia Rio

.
The first generation was produced from 2000 to 2005 and was presented in sedan and station wagon body styles. The second generation was produced from 2005 to 2011 in sedan and hatchback bodies. And the third generation has been produced from 2011 to the present in hatchback and sedan bodies. With the change of generations of Kia Rio, not only the appearance, but also the engines changed. All engines that have ever been installed on a Kia Rio can be divided into two groups. These are petrol and diesel. Engines can also be divided by volume: 1.1 l, 1.25 l, 1.3 l, 1.4 l, 1.5 l, 1.6 l. There are 16-valve and 8-valve, different power, etc. But all this is not so important. After all, on our agenda is the issue of choosing oil for the Kia Rio engine
. Therefore, we will not stray too far from the topic. Motor configurations certainly play a big role, but you don't need to know the technical details. At least when choosing oil this is not so important.

The factory fills it with Extra Gasoline 5W30 or Premium Gasoline 5W20, depending on the climate zone.

What oil is better to pour into the engine?

The choice of engine oil is based on viscosity, API specification, ACEA, tolerances and those important parameters that you never pay attention to. You need to select according to 4 main parameters. More details

In the 1.6 engine of the Kia Rio 3 2015. (UB) fits - 3.5 liters of oil.

Tools used when changing oil

Car lift (inspection hole);

  • 13 mm hex head - oil pan protection;
  • 17 mm hex head - drain plug;
  • Crab for filters;
  • Hydraulic strut;
  • Watering can;
  • Clean cut of cotton ;
  • Oil receiver (suitable container);
  • The ratchet is big.

  • Install a new filter;
  • Screw in the drain plug;
  • Open the oil filler cap;
  • Pour in 3 liters of oil;
  • Start the engine for 10 seconds;
  • Check the oil level - dipstick;
  • Add 0.5 liters of oil;
  • Check level.
  • Torque:

    • Drain plug - 32 Nm ;
    • Oil filter - 12-16 Nm (twist the filter to the rubber band and 2-3 turns by hand).

    See the video for a clear overview of the entire procedure for changing the oil in a Rio 3 engine.

    Raise the car and unscrew the 11 bolts securing the protection. 13 mm hex socket with a large ratchet or air impact wrench. We place a hydraulic stand under the protection and lower it.

    Checking the engine lubricant level

    The control measurement of the Kia Rio 3 oil level must be repeated 5-10 minutes after stopping the internal combustion engine so that the lubricant drains into the crankcase. The car must be level. The dipstick for measuring the lubricant level is located in front of the engine compartment, the neck for filling lubricant is on the left on the cylinder head cover . Measuring algorithm :

    1. Remove the dipstick.

      Remove the dipstick.

    2. Wipe it dry with a clean cloth.

      Wipe the dipstick with a clean cloth.

    3. Insert back.

      We take out the dipstick and check the oil level.

    4. Remove the dipstick again and look at the “wetting” level . If it is below the minimum mark, refueling is required. There should not be an excess above the MAX mark.

    To add oil, unscrew the plug counterclockwise and remove it. You should add lubricant little by little , each time waiting 2-3 minutes until it drains into the crankcase and you can measure the level again.

    Instead of a funnel, you can use the cut off neck of a plastic bottle to accurately pour.

    A funnel for neat pouring can be made from a plastic bottle.
    When the oil level on the Kia Rio dipstick is normal, the filler cap is screwed tightly in place, and the drips are wiped off with a rag .
