How to change the cabin filter on a Hyundai Accent yourself

What is the purpose of the Accent cabin filter?

Before we talk about how to replace the cabin filter in a Hyundai Accent, you need to find out what a cabin filter is and what purposes it serves. The interior fittings are a fairly important part of any car, including the Hyundai Accent. It is especially useful in the summer, since it is designed to filter out dust particles that enter the cabin through various air ducts of the car.

The installation of cabin filters in a Hyundai Accent car is designed, first of all, to minimize harm to the health of people in the cabin. In addition, this part helps to simply maintain cleanliness and order in the interior by reducing the amount of dust and dirt penetrating inside the car.
The results of various studies show that in Hyundai Accent cars with an installed air purifier, the concentrations of formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, aromatic hydrocarbons and other chemical compounds harmful to humans do not exceed established standards.

Why is it so important to replace on time?

You should also talk about the timeliness of replacement. Timely replacement ensures proper operation of the air conditioning and heating of the Hyundai Accent interior. In addition, timely replacement makes it possible to most effectively capture microscopic particles of dust and various plants that penetrate into the interior and not only settle on its surfaces, but also cause allergic reactions in the respiratory system of people using the car.

You can also highlight a certain driving hazard created by a dirty cabin filter, since large accumulations of dirt and dust begin to prevent the penetration of air into the cabin, as a result of which the windows of the Hyundai Accent fog up, and the driver himself begins to get more tired and react worse to various driving situations. In winter, a contaminated part leads to a decrease in the performance of the heating system, as a result of which it becomes quite cold inside the car, and the windows begin to fog up more.

Cabin filter for Hyundai Accent

Some dealers involved in the supply and sale of Hyundai Accent cars, for some reason, believe that the interior fittings are an optional element and do not include it in the package. During pre-sale preparation, parts are installed on the Hyundai Accent quite rarely, as a result of which the cars end up with their owners without this inconspicuous, but quite important part.

The standard cabin filter for a Hyundai Accent consists of two halves installed behind the glove compartment in the ventilation system. If you need to replace the fitting, you can purchase a new product in the store, or you can make it yourself using available materials and tools. The quality will be slightly lower, but quite sufficient for a certain mileage of the car.

Replacing all filters Hyundai Accent photos

Replacing Hyundai Accent filters is required at different vehicle mileage. Typically, replacing filters does not require special knowledge and skills. But this does not mean that this should be taken carelessly. After all, the durability of components and assemblies, primarily the engine, depends on filters. After all, the engine air filter does not allow dust to pass through, which will quickly lead to wear and tear of the combustion chamber. The fuel filter traps dirt particles. which can easily reach the injectors through pipelines. The oil filter ensures the cleanliness of the oil on which the engine runs.

Next, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the official regulations for replacing various filters for the Hyundai Accent.

  • Engine oil and oil filter - 10,000 km (or after 12 months)
  • Fuel filter – 10,000 km (or after 48 months)
  • Engine air filter – 40,000 km (or after 36 months)
  • Automatic transmission oil and filter – 90,000 km (or after 72 months)

We have already written about replacing the Hyundai Accent fuel filter.

To replace the air filter you will have to spend a couple of minutes of your time. We open the hood, next to the fuse block and battery we see the air filter housing. The casing cover can be easily removed, just unclip the 4 spring latches, remove the old filter and insert a new one. Actually, you don’t even need tools, except your hands, of course. Photos are attached below.

It’s impossible to imagine a simpler process.

The oil filter is replaced simultaneously with the oil change. In order to unscrew the filter, you will need to remove the engine protection (if equipped). The Hyundai Accent oil filter is located under the generator on the side of the engine cylinder block. Photo for clarity below.

, a cabin filter was also installed . Replacing or installing a cabin filter on this car is not difficult. Please note that the original filter consists of two parts that are inserted in a certain way.

To replace the filter, you will have to unscrew the glove compartment and get to the casing of the heating and ventilation system located under the dashboard. To remove the glove compartment, press along the edges, bend it, and if it annoys you, finally remove it by unscrewing two bolts with a Phillips screwdriver.

To open the compartment where the filter should be located, it is necessary to remove the rod, which greatly interferes with us. Here she is.

Now carefully remove the plastic plug by pressing the latch on top (the main thing is not to break it).

Now you can install a new filter consisting of two parts. You can only insert a filter in a certain way

The shape of the outer frame of the air filter is quite specific, but also pay attention to the air direction arrows. Now we put the plug and rod in place and screw the glove compartment on. Everyone can enjoy the fresh air.

There is no exact data on the frequency of replacing the cabin filter on the Accent, because it all depends on many factors. If you drive on dusty dirt roads every day, your filter will become clogged after 5-6 thousand kilometers. If the environment is not very polluted, then the filter can travel for more than tens of thousands of kilometers. In any case, it is better to periodically check the filter for contamination and change it as necessary.

What tools will you need to make your own?

In order to independently make and replace the cabin filter on a Hyundai Accent, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • two halves of an old, used cabin filter;
  • replacement filter used in kitchen hoods;
  • yardstick;
  • scissors;
  • knife;
  • glue.

Replacement filters for exhaust hoods are sold in many stores and are several times cheaper than car filters, and the area of such a filter is enough to make six interior filters. The purchased filter can even be a two-layer carbon filter, which provides better cleaning.

Choice of SF Hyundai Accent

The first generation Accent, produced during 1999-2005, was equipped with a filter with article number 97617-1C000, which consisted of two rectangular filter elements that were placed one above the other. Each of them was equipped with its own frame, which was complemented by a handle that made it easier to pull the product out of the compartment. Since 2005, the Accent has been equipped with a regular single cabin filter (article 97133-1E100), albeit without a frame. For this reason, replacing the Accent Tagaz cabin filter is much easier, although the niche for the filter and the total dimensions of the single and dual cleaning elements are the same.

The double filter is generally a unique design solution. Forced, since it is extremely difficult to install a whole product on first-generation cars, but separately they become quite simple. One way or another, original cabin filters are rarely purchased today, preferring cheaper options from well-known manufacturers of similar products. In particular, for Hyundai Accent produced before 2005, the following products can be considered a good alternative:

  • Nevsky filter (article NF6159/2);
  • TSN (article 9.7-13);
  • Finnwhale (item AS738);
  • Kolbeschmidt (item 50013894).

For cars that came off the assembly line after 2005 (Tagaz assembly), the following filters will be suitable:

  • Nevsky filter (article NF6425);
  • Champion (item CCF0186);
  • TSN (article 9.7-547);
  • Finnwhale (item AS742).

Unfortunately, domestic dealers specializing in sales of Hyundai Accent often practice pre-sale preparation without installing a cabin filter on the car. Apparently, believing that this part can hardly be called in demand among drivers. About ten years ago, it really was a novelty, and car owners did not see the benefits of owning it, considering the troubles of replacing it burdensome. Today the situation has changed diametrically - no one wants to breathe dirty air with unpleasant odors, so configurations with a missing filter are becoming unpopular.

The place behind the glove compartment, where the cabin air filter is located on the Hyundai Accent, is standard for many brands and models of cars, so there are usually no problems with dismantling the old and installing a new product. As for the filter itself, some car enthusiasts prefer not to buy a finished part, but to make it themselves. As a rule, the quality of such a product is not much inferior to the factory one, but in terms of cost, this option is clearly preferable, especially if the owner of the car loves and knows how to do repairs without resorting to the help of professionals.

Instructions for making a filter yourself

Stage 1

Stage 1

Stage 2-4

Stage 5-6
Let's consider the sequence of making an interior part with your own hands.

  1. To begin with, take the used interior fabric and carefully shake it off from the main accumulations of dust and dirt. Next, using a knife, we cut off the unusable filter element around the perimeter, leaving only the plastic frame.
  2. In accordance with the internal boundaries of this frame, using scissors, we cut out the blanks for the future filter halves from the drawing frame.
  3. Glue the resulting blank onto the frame. When using a two-layer carbon filter, you should specify in the instructions the sequence of laying the layers in the kitchen hood, and place the layers in the plastic frame in the same order. There is a protrusion and groove in the upper and lower parts of the interior fittings that allow you to fix the halves. Considering that the air in the air duct moves from right to left, the second layer of the element is glued on the corresponding side.
  4. Similarly, we attach the second half of the future frame to the frame.
  5. During the period required for the glue to dry, the resulting product should be left alone.
  6. Next, you can begin replacing the part in the car itself.

Rules for choosing a new SF

Two types of filters are installed in the machine: the first is single paper, the second is carbon, multi-layer, made of a border and a handle for pulling out of the compartment. If the car was sold after 2005, then it has the first option; if from 1995 to 2005, double ones are used, since installing a single one on them would be uncomfortable. This becomes clear if you try to place a part from the second generation on the first one yourself, although their placement area and overall dimensions are the same.

Installation instructions

  1. The cabin filter is located behind the glove compartment - a storage compartment, so this compartment must be completely emptied. Open the glove compartment and lightly press on its sides to remove the stops. The walls of the box bend quite easily, so no serious effort is required.

    Open glove compartment for replacement process

  2. The vertical plate is the cabin filter cover, which we need to remove. It is necessary to move the recirculation draft flap to the side.

    Cabin fitter cover

  3. Next, we act by touch: we find a small lever above the filter cover and pull it towards ourselves. This stage can be considered the most difficult, so do not rush and make unnecessary efforts, acting as carefully as possible.

    Filter access lever

  4. Having released the fastening, pull the cover up, releasing the fastening from below, and then remove the cover.

    Removed cabin filter cover

  5. We take out the old filtration element, if it was installed. The bottom half is pulled out after the top. Instead of throwing away used halves, they can be washed, cleaned and reused. The plastic frame is useful if you make your own filter.

    The old filter is ready to be removed

  6. Installing the filter is carried out in the reverse order. In this case, its halves should be positioned correctly: there should be a recess at the bottom, and a groove at the top. The lower half is installed first, then the upper half.
  7. Then we return the cover to its place, first installing the lower lock, then the upper one, without applying too much force. Many beginners break the cover during incorrect installation. If the upper lock does not close, you should not press harder, but check with your hands that the lower lock matches.
  8. After installing the cover in place, it is worth checking how securely the locks are fastened. To do this, gently pull the cover towards you at the point where the recirculation rod is attached. If the top lock remains in place, you can put the rod back and close the glove compartment. For more details about this, see also the video.

Replacement frequency and price

The frequency of replacing a part on a Hyundai Accent is on average 10 thousand kilometers, but when traveling in particularly dusty and dirty conditions, this mileage should be reduced to five thousand.

The cost of a filter for a Hyundai Accent is on average 350-800 rubles, while filters used in kitchen hoods cost 100-150 rubles, and their sizes allow you to produce several parts for a car at once. To do this, it is only important not to throw away old, used salon fittings.

The importance of performing routine filter element replacements

Of course, all of the above advantages of cars equipped with a cabin filter will be lost if it becomes clogged, and this process, unfortunately, is inevitable. As mechanical particles settle in the pores of the cleaning element, its throughput will gradually deteriorate, and the shortage of air entering the cabin will affect the reduction in the efficiency of the climate system as a whole. The rate of filter contamination depends on many factors - road conditions, preferential operating conditions of the vehicle, driving style, driver discipline, etc.

Because of this, the replacement of the Hyundai Accent cabin filter recommended by the manufacturer can be carried out at a time that differs from that specified in the manual. This is especially true for the warm season, when the air is much more polluted than in winter. That is why many experts say that the optimal time to perform this operation is the beginning of spring. It is during this period that plants actively flower and release pollen, which is enemy number one for allergy sufferers. A clogged filter is capable of accumulating such allergens, and instead of having a protective function, it will become a threat to passengers belonging to this category of the population.

Untimely replacement of the Hyundai Accent cabin filter is fraught with other troubles - the appearance of unpleasant odors in the cabin, frequent fogging of the windows even in clear and dry weather, and a decrease in the efficiency of airflow from the deflectors when the fan, car air conditioner or heater is on. It is these symptoms that should serve as the main sign that it is time to solve the problem with a dirty filter element.
