It's better not to skimp on replacing the Renault Duster air filter

Renault Duster crossovers, which belonged to the first generation, were produced with different types of engines - gasoline and diesel. Their operation with contaminated filter cartridges leads to poor performance and reduced power. Therefore, the Renault Duster air filter needs to be replaced.

This procedure can be performed by the owner himself, taking into account the type of engine.

Duster air filter replacement interval

Operating time of the factory model on Duster, made from special. paper is 15,000 kilometers.

When using Renault Duster on very dirty roads, it is recommended to reduce the interval to 10 thousand km , and combine this procedure with pouring new oil into the crankcase.

The duration of the standard replacement interval for the Duster air filter is sometimes halved:

  • 7.5 thousand km for gasoline power units;
  • 5 thousand km for diesel engines.

On diesel engine types in Renault Duster, which place high demands on the quality of air purification, the standard service life of the product is 8,000 kilometers.

Filter replacement interval

Replacing the air filter on Renault Duster 2.0 depends on the modes and conditions in which the car and its engine are operated. When driving in a heavily dusty urban atmosphere, which is replete with chemically aggressive compounds, the filter may fail earlier than the manufacturer declares. The same can be said with frequent trips to dirt roads. The following signs indicate that the air filter is not working properly:

  1. Reduced power in all operating modes.
  2. The engine becomes less dynamic when you press the gas pedal.
  3. Fuel consumption increases significantly with a simultaneous decrease in traction characteristics.

In this case, it is necessary to inspect the filter and, if it is clogged or damaged, replace the part. The manufacturer suggests changing this element at least every 30 thousand km, even under ideal operating conditions.

Replacing the air filter for Renault Duster with a gasoline engine

For the Renault Duster engine, this procedure is performed as follows: place the crossover on a horizontal surface, lift the handbrake and turn off the engine.

Next, do the following:

  1. Remove the resonator, unscrew the cover, prepare the “10” key.

    Removing the inlet pipe

  2. Remove the short tube by removing the clip from the tongue and then removing the short tube.
  3. Separate 2 parts - air filter resonator Duster from the body. You just need to disconnect the 2 short tubes.

  4. Turn off vacuum tube type, marked with a risk. Squeeze the latches on the side parts and disconnect the tube from the connector.

  6. Mount a new element inside the housing. Carry out assembly.

Original and analogues

Renault Duster 2.0 sixteen-valve petrol engines are equipped with an original spare part number 8200431051. This air filter is recommended by the manufacturer. The modern market offers good analogues:

  • Mann C1858/2;
  • Mahle LX 773;
  • AMD FA 774;
  • Filtron AP185/1;
  • M-Tex MTF185/1.

All of them have characteristics comparable to the original, while their cost is significantly lower, therefore, when changing the air filter, it makes sense to pay attention to options that will last no less than the original.

Replacement on diesel

How to correctly change the air filter on a Duster:

  1. Place the machine on a level surface.
  2. Set the handbrake and turn off the engine.
  3. Raise the hood.
  4. Pull out the cooling system inlet pipe carefully so that dust does not get into it. A lock will be visible at the end of the pipe (preliminarily, for those who do not want to take risks, it is recommended to disconnect the battery; you need to disconnect the “–” contact with a ten key).

    First you need to remove the inlet pipe

  5. Use a screwdriver unscrew the fastening screw, located on the filter shell.

  6. Disconnect the electronic block.
  7. Lightly unscrew the fastening screw from the connection bracket of the pipe (short tube).
  8. The short tube must be separated from the body part.
  9. Make sure the filter is free. The box can be quickly removed. Finally, unscrew the screws. After the procedure, turn the indicator knob counterclockwise and look at the color of the scale so that it is white.

  10. Replacing the air filter on a Duster diesel engine is easier than on another car. The procedure will prolong the use of the car in normal condition and maintain a stable state of the engine .

Selecting a filter

Before replacing the air filter on a Renault Duster, you need to select a new part. And it is advisable to buy a “good” quality filter without overpaying for it.

Car owners advise:

If you want to buy the best quality part, choose products from Bosch, Champion, Mann, Mahle and Knecht.

In addition, avoid products from Alco, Delphi, Meyle, Fram, SCT - they are of “low” quality.

Other companies produce parts of “average” quality.

How to replace the air filter on Renault Duster 1.6-2.0 l and diesel

For stable and long-term operation of the car engine, it is necessary to monitor its condition and replace all consumables on time.

The manufacturer suggests replacing the air filter on Renault Duster every scheduled maintenance, that is, every 15,000 km. This is exactly the resource the filter is designed for.

Some motorists replace it even more often - once every 10,000 km, just like the cabin filter on the Duster.

Where is the filter located and which one to choose?

Like all cars, the air filter on the Renault Duster is located in the engine compartment in a special housing. A stream of air passes through the filter, which it filters from dust. Next, the air enters the throttle valve, where it mixes with the combustible mixture. Therefore, it is important that the air filter is always clean and effectively filters the incoming air.

When the filter is rarely changed, it becomes clogged with dirt, leaves and dust, resulting in poor air flow through it, which leads to a decrease in engine power and loss of traction. That is why we advise you to monitor the condition of the filters and spark plugs on your Duster and replace them within the prescribed period.

Replacing the air filter on a gasoline engine

Carefully disconnect the rubber clamp, then disconnect the resonator pipe from the pipe of the air filter housing cover

Squeeze the clamps of the vacuum booster tube with your fingers and remove it

Next, using a Torx T-25 wrench, unscrew the two screws securing the air filter housing cover and remove it

We take out the old filter, clean the housing and cover from dust and dirt and install a new filter.

We reassemble in reverse order.

This is what the new and old original filters look like

Replacing the air filter on a diesel engine

Please note that on diesel engines, a special filter contamination sensor is installed on the air filter cover. The filter should be replaced if it shows 75% contamination.

After each filter replacement, the sensor must be reset

  • Unscrew the sensor mounting bolt, then move the sensor to the side 1
  • Next, disconnect the pipe going to air filter 2
  • Then disconnect the block from sensor 3
  • Loosen the clamp and disconnect the pipe from the body.
  • After this, remove the air filter housing
  • Unscrew the 4 mounting bolts and remove the old filter
  • Reassemble in reverse order

Replacing the Duster fuel filter

The additional fuel filter on the Duster 2.0 is located directly under the hood; a photo is attached below for clarity.

Before replacing the filter, the pressure must be relieved. Otherwise, the entire engine compartment of your Duster will be splashed with gasoline. Therefore, we simply turn off the fuel pump located in the gas tank. To do this, set the rear seat cushion in a vertical position. Raise the hatch cover. Using a slotted screwdriver, press out the clamp of the wire block. Disconnect the block from the fuel module cover connector.

We start the engine and let it idle until it stops, due to the complete exhaustion of fuel. Then turn on the starter for 2-3 seconds. After this, the pressure in the fuel system will be completely relieved.

Now you can start replacing the filter itself. It is located under the hood on the right side in a visible place. Use a screwdriver to press the clamp on the tube tip. Remove the tip of the outlet tube from the filter fitting.

Similarly, remove the tip of the supply tube from the filter fitting. Use a 10mm socket to loosen the filter clamp bolt. Remove the filter from the clamp.

Since fuel remains in the filter, we drain it into a previously prepared container.

We install the new fuel filter in the reverse order. The arrow on the filter housing should be directed in the direction of fuel flow (towards the rear of the car).

After installing the filter, do not forget to connect the fuel pump. Turn on the ignition, and if you hear a characteristic hum under the rear seat, then the fuel pump is working. After creating the required pressure, the pump stops. Look carefully at the connections of the fuel filter fittings; there should be no leaks or drops of gasoline.

Replacing the cabin filter in Renault Duster

To carry out work on replacing the filter in the Renault Duster cabin, no additional tools or skills are required. The financial costs will be minimal, and there will also be no need to go to a service station, which will save a lot of time. You can complete the entire replacement process yourself, you just need to follow the instructions. Another nice thing will be saving on annual maintenance.

Before starting work, you need to find out where the Renault Duster cabin filter is located. It should be noted right away that this process will not be particularly difficult, you just have to find the niche under the glove compartment. The location of the cassette with the filter element that needs to be replaced is located to the left of the passenger's feet. Once you locate the filter, follow these steps:

  • Feel the tongue of the locking element and press it;
  • Pull the filter cassette towards you and pull it out;
  • Wipe the area where the cassette was located with a soft cloth, remove debris and dust.
